Hi-Hat is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of East Austin. The atmosphere is cozy, and both the staff and locals are incredibly welcoming. On Tuesdays, they host a lively jazz jam session, providing a platform for local musicians to showcase their talent. Jacob, the band leader, adds a cool and encouraging vibe to the experience. As for the food, I highly recommend trying the pretzel, hamburger, or brussels sprouts. Everything on the menu is gourmet, ensuring a delicious dining experience no matter what you choose.

This is a really cool place. I came for lunch but I just know it’s even better when they have the music going. It’s very small but I can tell they have great music here, it’s just one of those cool atmospheres. The staff is really friendly. You order what you want at the bar and they bring it to your seat. I had the daily special which was a basil pesto base with sourdough - so so good.

This establishment had a great vibe. We came in for hearty burgers, fries and a couple of cold drafts. The place wasn't crowded and waitstaff very attentive and friendly. We missed live music but we were in early around 7pm on a Thursday night.

What an amazing experience. We went directly here from the airport, and what a great first impression of Austin. You place your order at the bar if you are sitting in the restaurant. We just sat at the bar rail. Very friendly bartender who knows how to make amazing high-end margaritas. Order the lunch special, which was a cornbeef sandwich with coleslaw. The flavors coming through each bite were an amazing combo. The fries on the side were great. There was plenty that my wife and I split this sandwich. We met the owners who are amazing, friendly people. Even the regulars coming in were very welcoming. They also have a stage with live music inside. They have a covered front patio for outdoor seating, too. Such a great experience!

This place is an absolute gem. Unassuming neighborhood bar that puts out amazing food and hosts some of the best musicians in town multiple times a week. Whether you’re a local to the east side, a local to Austin, or a visitor from elsewhere, you will NOT be disappointed with a few hours in the Hat.

Phenomenal beer selection with a scratch kitchen. This is a perfect spot to catch a bite to eat and have a drink with friends and lovers. We have been visiting Hi Hat for years and highly recommend!

I’ve had the pleasure of coming here since 2014. The food it always on point, made fresh, farm to table. I haven’t anything from Hi Hat that wasn’t amazing. The beer list is also a perfect complement to the food on menu, especially their food specials. I’m so glad they’re a staple of East Austin, and I always look forward to their weekend brunches!

What a great find! Small cheers like pub on the East Side with a very cool vibe. The food is stellar and the pretzel is a must get! Great beer selection and I definitely recommend seeing what they have for their frozen drink when you're there. The bartender Karla was fantastic and made some great recommendations of what to do around the area. Be sure to check out their Jazz Jam/All night Happy Hour on Tuesdays.

Stopped by on a Sunday to check out their jazz brunch and had a solid time. Not sure if I would call Dave Scher jazzy, seems more like classic rock. Regardless his band put on a great set (2nd Sunday of the month). The burger on a brioche bun was pretty tastey, however the fries felt a little overcooked & under salted. Washed the food down with one of their craft beers (Alaskan Amber ).

We've been meaning to try this place for a bit and I'm so glad we did. Their food is insanely good. The burger was amazing, the roast beef was insane. We loved the wings, mac n cheese and fries as well. The bartenders were so friendly and accommodating. The inside is small but feels homey and cozy! Can't wait to try brunch here soon.

First time here while visiting Austin. The place was completely empty on Sunday after noon (4 ish). They completely decked out the place in christmas decor which we loved. Super festive! They have a stage with a drumset so I am guessing they have live music sometimes? Will have to come back for that! We did not eat here but I did have a couple of their Flower Child cocktail. Gin based cucumber flavored drink. Sooooo good and soooooo pretty! Also the bartenders working here were so friendly. Exceptional customer service! I enjoyed sipping on my cocktail while having this place to myself while enjoying their awesome playlist. Not sure who was controlling the music but please keep it up. I can't wait to back!!

Worth coming back to. If you want cheese, get the grilled cheese! It delivers all the cheese. Tomato soup was better than I remembered. Boyfriend's burger was fine.

This is such a cute spot. I wanted to try everything on the menu and I wasn't even hungry so I got a salad, tomato soup and the pretzel. I didn't care for the soup but everything else was great! I also got the hibiscus lemon pucker mock tail and that was delicious, wish I could order a gallon! The band was great too, bring your ear plugs! Service was great too!

One of our favorite brunch spots! They have live jazz on Sundays at 1 pm. Easy parking on the street, order at the bar (unless you sit at the bar). Owner and his wife are in a lot and great to chat with. Nice selection of draft beers and cocktails. Food is always awesome and the people here are great to interact with! Stop by and try it out!!!!

Not sure where the good reviews are coming from. Waited 30 minutes for brussels sprouts and the biscuit and gravy plate. The brussels sprouts were burnt completely through, absolutely inedible. The bacon on the biscuit plate were 98% fat, nothing to eat. The eggs were good, but the gravy tasted weirdly floral but I wonder if it's the type of sausage they used. Overall, it's not a good place to go if you're looking for good food.

Went here for a quick drink. Vey small space but plenty of room (I know. ‍ ) Bartenders are fun. No live music when we were there but very enjoyable. Didn't eat while we were there, but the burgers looked amazing.)

This place has no business slinging the food they sling as "just a bar." Seriously best beer selection and kitchen in the neighborhood. Anything you want from the menu is going to be an elevated version of itself. Absolutely impeccable.

Nicest folks ever! I went with a bunch of folks for a drink after work to celebrate a colleague's Bday. We were loud and probably somewhat demanding, they handled us with care and kindness. Their wings and pizza were delicious. We also loved the Brussels sprouts...crispy and tasty. Their great bartender makes a terrific 'Nina Simon', it was to die for, if you want rum with bitters and ginger beer...yes.

$30 for basic burger with no sides and a beer. Trust me it's not worth it. Order at bar with slow service. Ambiance is ugly early 90s. Do not recommend.

Finally reopened! I'm so glad to have our neighborhood place open again after the damage from the storm of 2021. The burger was excellent as per usual. We also had the homemade pretzel from the happy hour menu. But the best surprise is now the Hi Hat has a full bar with specialty drinks (which is great for me since I don't drink wine or beer). The Sunday Jazz is back too!

Been coming here since they opened in 2013. Best intimate Sunday Jazz Brunch in town. Thomas the chef creates awesome daily pizza specials, burgers are always good. Steve the owner keeps the beer taps flowing with the best of our local suds, Page and Carla are a great cocktail bar team.

This place slams. I used to come here all the time when I worked next door and it was our go to spot. Great burgers, good sized beer selection and an outdoor patio. What more could you ask for??

Absolutely amazing bartenders. Atmosphere was great. Tons of regulars, this is always a good sign coming from a former bartender. There was a slight disturbance outside, but the bartenders and management handled it with class. Food was excellent, definitely try the foie gras mayo, chef's kisses.

I really appreciate Hi Hat for deciding to revisit their menu and remove an item that causes a lot of animal suffering. The staff were receptive and and they clearly care about their patrons. They are passionate about the business and it shows!

On the corner across from Livestrong you'll find Hi Hat - an establishment that knows what it's doing. I stopped in during the week with no preconceived notions or ideas of what to expect. So what did I learn? Its a cool little craft beer bar with some great food items. The night we came in they had a distributor there handing out all kinds of marketing swag, stickers and such. It wasn't pushy at all it was just laid back and I loved it. The beer list now that is a headache - there's so many choices! OMG :) It's around the corner for me and I have already stopped in about 3 times. Each visit has been the same for me - just perfect. So far it isn't log jammed with crowds of people which I enjoy being able to sit without the typical ATX line w/a 20 min or more wait. Let's hope they are busy enough to stay around but not too much that I can't sit right away! ;) Thanks for the great local vibe you put on guys. I love it!

The food is pretty good. Ordered a $30 steak - got 4 bites. Portion sizes are a little off. Decent vibes. Price points seemed a little off tho

Amazing good, great atmosphere, cool staff/owner. Prime Rib sandwich was hands down the best sandwich I've had in a long time.

I attended a company outing there with several of my colleagues. The service, food, and staff were outstanding. I especially enjoyed the Roast Beef Sando and fries. Absolutely one the best sandwiches I've had in a long time! I plan to go back again

Popped by Hi Hat Public House on Saturday night due to the amazing reviews on Yelp. Have to admit it, I was kind of underwhelmed. The bar was sparsley populated for a Saturday night, though they did have a live band playing. I got a Founders Solid Gold beer for $5.50 and ordered the pork belly hoagie for $12. The food came out pretty quick, but it felt like the kitchen staff wanted to get ouf of there and kind of rushed it together. It was just OK, not the kind of food I'd expect from a 4.5* establishment. Nothing really wrong with the place, but I don't see how the ratings are so high. Perhaps there's people living in the building and they're just pleased to have a better than average bar in their building? I don't live here, so I don't know if I'll ever make it back in. Bottom line: good bar, but so many bars in Austin, it didn't grab me as anything amazing.

Stopped by after work today, not too busy and I got a spot at the bar. They had a huge beer selection and they also had wine. I had a beer and the special of the day burger, it was cooked perfectly and delicious, just the right size. I opted for Mac and cheese and that was delicious too, I had a big enough portion that I took half home. I'd come by again. It was worth the trip.

We were walking around on what was quite possibly the rainiest weekend this year so far and went to another place which had a 30-45 minute wait time. We walked around thinking we'll have to go back to our friend's apartment and drive somewhere when we ended up at this place purely by happenstance. The good, the bad, and the ugly: The good: The presentation of the food is so pleasing to the senses. Just as pleasing as it is to look at it, it is equally pleasing to your taste buds. I substituted my chips for the beets and oh boy, what a great a choice that was! The guy taking the order (Oh, btw, you have to order at the bar) told me that some people don't like them because they taste too earthy. I have never understood how people cannot enjoy eating beets. The highlight of the entree was supposed to be the portobello mushroom burger served on a bed of creams with some guacamole and aioli but the side of beets totally took the center stage. The vinaigerette they were sitting in when mixed with the cheese totally elevated the dish and give it so much dimension once you really mix it in together. You really want to take pictures and tell your food that this one is for the gram. I'll let the photos speak for themselves The bad: Portions are a little bit on the smaller side but that could possibly be because we have huge portions in Houston. Or that I have a food addiction. No one else seemed to have that problem so you can just ignore the last statement. But, the service was a little lacking even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The ugly: This does not necessarily apply to me but my friend is a vegan and they don't carry soy milk. Their reasoning, we put it out but no one used it and we were throwing it away. Solution could be, just give it to people who ask for it?! I think, overall, we had a really good time over here. The food was great. On Sundays, they have live music where we were told that the music doesn't get so loud that you are not able to hold a normal conversation.

Pros: The food is delicious, the service was friendly and great, the venue is small and cozy. Cons: We didn't experience any negatives...but I could imagine there being a long wait during peak hours. We loved the tar tar, the burgers, the Mac and cheese, and spicy Brussels sprouts. Yum!

Rolled in here for the first time on Saturday afternoon and had my eye on their reuben. I was NOT disappointed! They brine their corned beef for 11days and it is juicy, crumbly perfection! The kraut they use is actually on par as well, w/the perfect balance of sweet & sour. I am not gonna lie, the reuben here might just hold a candle to my all-time ATX fav at Waller. They are different stylistically, but both hold their own. While I was here Saturday, I did their little sampler pour of one of my fav high abv beers, Wake up Dead on nitro by Left Hand. It was just what I wanted. At 10.2%, doing a full pour is a bit much, but their little $3 sampler was perfection. I also discovered their "Wine Wednesdays" during my Saturday visit and after the gracious bartender Phil (who I have affectionately nicknamed "GreenBay") let me sample their 1000 Stories Bourbon Barrel Aged Zin. I was smitten from first whiff and in full lust after the first sip. I knew I had to return to make a half price $44 btl mine! As luck would have it, my schedule allowed me to come in on the following Wed. I am not going to lie, I was so looking forward to doing damage to a bottle of a 1000 Stories all by my lonesome. However, because my "luck" has always been spelled w/a capital "F", they had just sold their last btl of 1KStories when I walked in. I was heartbroken. But, the wonderfully empathetic staff here not only let me sample the Substance Cab (it was a lovely cab, but I had my heart set on the BB-aged Zin!) before offering me a glass from the last open btl at HH pricing. GreenBay even let me kill what little remained at the end of the night. Great service will always make or break any experience, in my opinion. It was busier than usual due to it being ATX Beer Week, but even the patrons at this place were gracious. There was not a seat to be had in the house and this kind man at the bar let me have the very tightly squeezed-in seat next to him. BTW, the reuben here is so nice I had to have it twice! It was just as perfectly delicious the 2nd time as it was the first. I will definitely be back the next chance I get for another attempt at Wine Wednesday and anytime I need an old school reuben fix. So glad I discovered this place, its vibe, and wonderful staff!

On a recent visit to Hi Hat, our group sat at the bar while a band played music. I got chicken wings. They were not your normal fried wings, they seemed like a flavorful baked wings hybrid. Different but not bad, because I was hungry and they had the kitchen open late. There is outdoor seating as well.

Love, laughter, and happiness. That's what I feel when I come to Hi-Hat. I visited not too long ago and had their eggs benedict for Sunday brunch which was nothing short of amazing. He ordered the Hi-Hat plate which he also enjoyed. We ate and marveled at the talented jazz band that was finishing up their set. This place is cozy, has an enormous selection of beer, and a knockout menu for you to explore (with daily specials). I would come here again and again. 10/10 would recommend this place to others.

4.75. An amazing brunch spot, a great casual place for a low-key dinner and beer, and the staff are so friendly. I crave their roasted beet salad and pop in frequently just for it. They have a spot-on beer selection and their Mac and cheese is to die for. Beware of their spicy Brussel sprouts - they're spicy! If you go for brunch, they have mimosa pitchers for a reasonable price. And order the Hi Hat Plate. It is absolutely the best brunch dish I've had. Crunchy, zesty, filling and indulgent!

Lunch on the patio while in the area for work. The roasted mushroom sammy with avo spread, roasted tomatoes, and pickles was great. The buttery brioche roll- yum! The side of roasted brussels were also tasty, the serving too big for one person. I'm not typically a sandwich fan, but if you are, this place is a good option.

I cannot wait for this place to come back! They have an amazing, mouth-watering burger that's the perfect size to leave you satisfied but not stuffed.

I had Sunday brunch at Hi Hat and the experience was fantastic! I intended to eat here because they have live music every Sunday. People praised Austin as the live music capital of the US so I of course wanted to experience this tradition. The ambience was very casual, and the customers were seated close to the stage. There was a local Jazz band playing when we were there! The music was good, but it's a little loud for me as I couldn't have a conversation with my friends without having to shout at each other. Overall, this was a loud place with ppl chatting and music playing. But I like it, so amiable and intimate. The staff walking at the bar was extremely friendly to us. He gave us few suggestions in the menu and explained briefly abt Hi Hat to us. I decided to have the Madrange benedict while my friends have Steak and eggs and corn beef harsh. Just like what the employee said, the food was so delicious. I love how my egg benedict was served with a croissant instead of english muffin! It tasted so much better to me. I savored every bite and was so sad when I finished the whole thing. It'd be even better if the eggs were more runny so that when I cut it the yolk oozes out. The eggs I had were a bit overcooked. But that's OK, my meal was still delightful! We stayed there until the band finished playing. The restaurant didn't charge extra for the live music, so I only paid less than $20 for this incredible brunch!

So happy that the Hi Hat is back open. They're doing a great job disinfecting everything and keeping everything tidy. The food is delicious and so are the drinks. For vegetarians, they have the best avocado toast I've ever had and that's coming from someone in LA where we are as basic as it gets. I've also had their shrimp benedict that is not currently on their menu which is so yummy. Lastly, I usually don't like micheladas but they make the best!! The mix is homemade and it taste like perfection with the new Zilker rice beer. Thank you!

Yup five stars.....I feel justified in giving that after quite a few visits here, always ending in a bit of surprise at how great the food is. It's a little corner pub but that kitchen is kickin. We've been here often because it's located conveniently right across the street from our architect's office, and after a 3 hour meeting, one does get noshy and need a drink. So we stumble over here for another 2 hour "meeting" to rehash the shit we just talked about. It's exhausting, really. BUT, no matter how glassy eyed and brain dead we are when we come in, the same bartender (Habim?) is there with a great big grin on his face and is so patient with our "we just spent hours making decisions, please just tell us what to drink" attitudes. No matter how busy he is, he takes the time to pour samples of beer until we find the one we like. And then, when we go in next time and realize ALL the beers have changed, he does it again. The first fortuitous time we came in, it was Pint Night and the He'Brew company was sampling their Slingshot lager. After talking to the very nice rep, she bought us our first round which came in whimsical pint glasses. We got a second round and now have a full set of great glasses. We felt like we hit the pub lottery that nite. But, again, it's the food that is so surprising....almost, dare I say, gourmet? It's not your typical pub food.....yes they have tacos (2 tacos and a pint for $10 on Tues), but their tacos are legit, with carnitas and fresh avocado and that yummy crumbling white queso, served with lime and cilantro and onion on the side. And they have great sandwiches like ruebens and a duck confit sandwich, crazy good. They will also serve all their sandwiches on fresh greens instead of bread which made my low carb hubby happy when he got that reuben salad. For my low carb self, I got a bowl of posole with an egg on top and avocado on the side and I can say, I actually felt really good about my diet that nite. That shit was legit. One word of advice (if you're not on a crazy diet like I am), get The Pretzel. Yup, I'm giving it the capital letters it deserves. Don't DARE say, let's get "the pretzels", as ONE is all you need. It's big as yo face and served warm with a mustard sauce and a beer cheese sauce. One second word of advice, skip the mustard sauce (it's good but.....) and get two tubs of cheese. The pretzel is nicely crunchy and salty on the outside and warm and doughy inside and when paired with the cheese, well....you'll thank me. Just get it. Hubby and architect and I are staring down a long road with this "little project" but having this place nearby makes it tolerable. I look forward to many nites recovery here.

This is definitely not what I expected when walking up. It is more of a hole in the wall type bar nestled in definitely austin. Parking is hard to find so be prepared. The food was just okay and the service was eh. They do have a large selection of beers though. The place is very small inside a d the bathroom are somewhat outside....sucks in a cold night. It's definitely an interesting little find. Not one of my favorites though.

First off, we wasn't planning to come here but looked what was in the area and this place popped up. When you go in, the area is a bit small. You can grab a menu off the wall and then order from the bar. They have a few chairs for bar seating and about 6 tables inside varying from a two seater to a six seater, and there are about 3-4 tables outside and then a bar top around the patio. If it is pretty warm, I would definitely recommend sitting inside. They said that this was the busiest they'd been so food took longer to come out than usual 30 min-1 hour. It was definitely worth the wait! I ordered the eggs Benedict with a cilantro sauce on top and it had chorizo as well! It was greatly prepared and was the perfect amount of food. The biscuits and gravy are also pretty darn good! You can pick how you want your eggs with it, and it also comes with bacon. We only did self serve water, but our total was $26...in the halfway mark price range. WORTH IT THOUGH! The staff are polite and try to do everything to accommodate you and keep up with other customers/work. The only reason I knocked off a star is due to the seating inside, making it hard to fit everyone!

Wow! I just love this place ... small menu and all items cooked to perfection! Weekends include brunch until 4:30 and Sunday comes with live jazz! Standout items include the veggie taco and steak and eggs!

This review is for a brunch for three at the bar on a Sunday. service Bartenders are amazing. Which is good, 'cause everyone orders at the bar. Our bar staff were funny, smart, professional and interesting. Great suggestions on all the tap beers - especially the IPAs. They were equally helpful with menu recommendations. bar It's beer and wine only, so leave your craft cocktails orders at home. The beer selections are exceptional. If you're a beer drinker, they can find one that's right for you. The wines are very nice and interesting. Ask for guidance on the wine list, unless you're a sommelier. food Everything was great. Based on the bartender's recommendation, I went with Madrange Benedict. I liked the croissant, instead of English muffin and brie in the hollandaise. My wife went with her brunch stand-by, biscuits and gravy. They were good, if somewhat skimpy for the price. Our son tried the Hi Hat Bagel, which is very good. The house-cured salmon is exceptional. details It's street parking, but it wasn't bad on a Sunday morning. The place is tiny, so be prepared to wait or come early. The jazz for brunch begins at 1pm. Restrooms are out the back door and down a corridor. Ask the bartenders for the punch code to the door before you make the journey.

My husband and I stopped in here after an attempt to eat brunch at Revelry Kitchen (they only serve on sundays... learn from my mistakes! Anyway, Hi Hat was exactly what we were looking for. It's super casual which I absolutely love. Every brunch spot has its place but my favorite are the kind where you can simply walk in and seat yourself. I ordered the Drunken Biscuits and Gravy. The biscuits themselves were fine but in this case they were really just a vehicle for the gravy. Speaking of, the gravy was excellent! It had that hint of beer flavor (hence drunken) and it really put it over the edge. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict with the Brie (there is another name for it on the menu which I can't remember). It was cooked perfectly. I tried a bite and lemme just say that you really need to like Brie if you are going to order this. Lastly, they have Cuvée coffee here. Thank you for this Hi Hat, thank you! It's these extra little touches that make a big difference to a coffee lover like me. The only downside is the cups they serve it in are tiny and with no waiter service we went up to the bar no less than 4 times. I certainly see myself coming back here and recommending it to others!

I would definitely recommend this spot if you are looking for a casual brunch with great food. A server at a different restaurant recommended this place. When I walked in and saw it was a small bar with no table service (order at the bar), a bit of doubt set in, but don't let that deter you - the food is truly excellent. The eggs benedict with chorizo and green cilantro hollandaise sounded right up my alley, and I was not disappointed. Very flavorful and perfectly executed with the poached eggs and sauce. My partner got the steak and eggs which was also excellent. The steak was way better than breakfast deserves. His mom got the reuben. As a Jewish girl from New York, I was skeptical of a reuben from Texas, but it was SO good. Texans have a way with meat, and apparently that includes corned beef. Enjoy!

The people here are cool. And the food is good. I like the vibe of this joint. We ordered some beer, eggs benedict, Mac n cheese, and spicy brussel sprouts. Can't say that I've ever had chorizo in my Egga Benedict so that was interesting. I'm not sure if I love it but it's def decent. I'll have to say the mac n cheese stole the show hands down. I added it to my order after the bartender and another customer both recommended it. I don't normally eat mac n cheese but I'd def order theirs again!

I just found my new favorite neighborhood pub! I'm kicking myself for not having visited sooner. Our bartender couldn't have been friendlier and our overall experience was phenomenal. I understand Texas beer has its niche. It's cute. But it was beyond refreshing to see the vast selection of adored craft beers from other breweries. They even have my favorite, Old Rasputin Imperial Stout on Nitro. SCORE! The pretzel. Let's spend a moment to discuss how LIFE-CHANGING the accompanying housemade fontina fondue tasted after rolling a crusty, warm and fluffy soft pretzel into it. Unnaturally delicious. I also tried their spicy Brussels sprouts, which was a total win as was their macaroni and cheese. Soupy, salty, creamy cheese sauce engulfing traditional elbow noodles. I can't wait to visit this place again.

This review is regarding brunch (an update). This time I ordered the chorizo eggs benedict and the brussels sprouts. The spicy brussels sprouts were tasty with a nice bit of heat to them. The chorizo eggs benedict is a savory delight! Three components make it so wonderful: the house chorizo (no greasy, just tasty), cotija cheese (always a nice add), and the cilantro hollandaise (that stuff needs to be bottles for take home!).

What can I say? The High Hat is my jam! I love the food and selection of local craft beer. They're positioned right past the line where the city stops charging for parking, which is sweet! The place is tiny with only about ten or so tables. They make up for this with a spacious outdoor patio. They have a space for a live band and the TV is almost always playing a classic 80s or 90s movie. I used to stop in, when I worked around the corner, and claim this spot as my watering hole. The owners and staff are friendly. The have a trailer that serves food around town and at events called the Kick Drum. The food out of the trailer is on par with the quality of the brick and mortar. The only draw back is the food portion is kind of on the small side. The High Hat will quickly win you over!
