Great place for a free comedy show on Sundays at 8 pm. The Bar staff is friendly. A great place to sit down and take a load off. It also has two restrooms. Liberation Taco is "attached" and opens at 8 pm but is closed on Sun and Monday I think. There's usually food across the street with a food truck and there's also a pizza place and taco place within the block. As well as a grocery store if you want snacks. All sorts of shows throughout the week from country music, drag, and even burlesque. A very New Orleans place to be.

First bar I visited in New Orleans. Great happy hour specials!! The bar staff is friendly. The shows and performances are top notch! Support local! Saw a great band playing when we walked in. Comedy show was a hit and the burlesque show to follow was worth staying out late for!!

Dope, dive bar, awesome people. Kind of reminded me of Freddy’s in Bk. Burlesque show was interactive, host was funny and cool. Bartenders friendly. It’s a vibe. These are my people.

Cool hipster bar. Dark and funky and has outdoor seating. Drinks were a decent price.Went for the Liberacion Nola pop-up, the quesadillas are insanely delicious. I don't know if it's because they had so many orders and they were completely overwhelmed but the tacos tasted a little burnt. Gotta catch them when it's not busy.

Stopped in just before closing. Thought the corned beef sandwich was small but it was quite filling and tasty. I'd definitely go back and try something else. Cool place

We had so much fun at the trivia night. The bar tender was super nice and attentive and the guy hosting Trivia made it fun! Can’t wait to go back.

It’s away from the hub bub of Burbon Street, and therefore has a cool, unique ambiance because of its location. Small place with low cast drinks and nice staff. Once a month you get lucky enough to catch a BDSM burlesque show, which made for a highly entertaining and unique experience. The outside courtyard in the back is all too neat and cozy.

Don't let this location fool you... The Hi-Ho is a place where young and up coming music talent meets 60's back alley speakeasy's. Go and enjoy "real" New Orleans entertainment.

This is a great neighborhood bar. Drinks are not super expensive, and there's something going on almost every night, which means there is a cover most nights, but it's usually reasonable. There are food trucks outside on weekend nights. Lots of comedy shows!

We were invited here by a friend to check out the one of their bands and what a time we had! The sound was penetrating every molecule in my body. Molecule! I yelled (a happy yell), danced a bunch, and tried to be as present as possible knowing that very soon it will all be but a wonderful memory. It is a small space but has good acoustics. It has a bar inside and an outdoor area in the back which makes "dee-licious" burritos. Such a good time.

Gritty and small but for a dive bar with live music it's epic. Great service live music cheap drinks fun. I am not sure if I picked a strange night , but I have a feeling a lot of queer's hang out here. Or maybe it's a queer bar. But who cares we sure had fun. Maybe that was the reason.

Apparently this is a dive bar, but it doesn't have smoking, has good music and even decent wine (notice I said decentbut great). The bartender was nice, The decor is fun and dark and the bathroom was clean. It didn't feel too divey to me. I definitely had fun.

This is a really cool place - we stumbled upon it and I'm glad that we did. They have a "beer and a shot" deal for $6 which is pretty good. I got Paradise Park and Buffalo trace. When we went they had live music that was fantastic, and also had sushi for sale.

A solid bar to go hang out with friends when you want to have a fun night out. We went on a Saturday night and they had a live dj spinning some music inside the bar. Lucky for us this bar was not cash only, yet they still had a heavy pour if you know what I mean. It was still fairly early but you can tell this place gets packed at night. If you have anyone in your group that's hangry send them to the oudoor patio in the back. I actually enjoyed the seating area outside and it's nice if you're wanting to catch up with friends or avoid the awkward frenemy fight happening inside. Seriously y'all the prices were damn fair!

Had very rude treatment. I'm sure the owner and other employees are lovely, and the band playing was great! There was a female bartender with brown curly hair and bangs who screamed at us. A group of friends and I came in while a band was playing. We had only been there for about 5 minutes, and used the bathroom before going to the bar. When we got to the bar, the bartender immediately started screaming at us for not spending any money yet. I calmly said "Oh, no problem, I'll buy a drink." She continued to yell at us through ordering. Afterwards, I saw a sign behind her that said "One drink minimum." She could have kindly pointed to the sign and I would have gotten a drink, no problem. There was no reason for shouting, especially since I was complying. Again, loved the band and venue, but I wanted to make this post to make the owners aware.

Without a doubt, one of the greater music venues in New Orleans, I love the sound there. great stage,awesome place

We stumbled upon the Hi-Ho Lounge on our 2nd visit to NOLA from Texas. First impression: is this a karaoke lounge? There's a lot of people milling around outside, hanging out, drinking, chilling. There's a taco place on the front sidewalk. It wasn't until our second night that we went in (after the Krewe of Boo parade). Everyone was so nice. Much more than expected! Great drinks, great bartenders, and the vibes were chill as hell. They had an ingenue burlesque show our 3rd night so of course we checked that out. Now, a little story: I lost something somewhere in the bar that devastated me when I found out. I left my number at the bar and expected I would never hear back. Our flight was leaving the next afternoon, before the bar opened. But as the bar was closing, I got a call from the staff: they found my item in the bathroom... And they could drive it to me. Words cannot describe the kindness of these people. They went out of their way to deliver my lost item when most places would shrug and let me figure it out myself. Tl;Dr: this place has chill vibes, fun events, and the nicest people you've ever met

Stopped in after a bite to eat and decided to check this place out. You will not see a lot of tourist at this spot because all locals go here. It was open mic night so locals and a few out of towners were going comedy and music. It was a great vibe and very welcoming. Nobody bothered you and the stand up was pretty funny. It wasn't crowded inside at all but everyone was seated at the bar or bar tables alongside the wall. Don't be alarmed if you see a huge crowd of people in the front, they are just smoking and they really aren't worried about you; just go on in and enjoy some comedy and a drink. A little secret, Fry and Pies are located on the side of this building. They have delicious loaded fries and personal pies so make sure to check them out.

Oh, yes - this is the place for interesting bands, easy access to the good stuff, and off the tourist path.

Loved this place! Met such awesome people here, everyone that works here was incredibly nice, and everyone on the dance floor was having an amazing time! Dj was on his motha-effing shiiiiiiit!!! Great vibes, awesome music, and cheap drinks-- what else could you ask for?! Place was packed, got here around 1:30 am and so many people were up on stage dancing with their silhouettes. Loved it here, recommend and would 10/10 go back!

Far outside the French Quarter away from the maddening crowd there exists this dive bar/club that offers great drinks and a long narrow lounge with a stage that was occupied by a great local band when I wandered in late one night. People were friendly which helped since the place was packed and one had to maneuver to get to the bar or bathroom, two very important places to observe when entering any joint like this just as finding the exits when you board a plane. I had my cocktail of choice and listened to 2 sets from the band. Another great thing about this fun and friendly vibe kinda place is that right around the corner at 3:00 am is a window that dispenses magnificent French Fry creations of gooey greatness called the Fry and Pie. So, you can fill your belly up with great music and drinks and then crawl around the corner to eat a Fries creation that has everything but the kitchen sink sure to whack your soul back to life ready to roll some more.

Visiting from NYC, the Hi Ho Lounge is a welcome change from the glitzy and sterile mega clubs that I'm used to. The people are down to earth, fun, and they love to dance! I went the night DJ Soul Sista was playing and was treated to some deep cuts that you never hear any more. I love that she invites the crowd to come up on stage with her and dance and you better or you get the boot! I'll be coming back to the Hi Ho Lounge every time I come back to New Orleans when I went to get my groove on!

It's been a while since I've visited Hiho, but this new Friday party made it impossible to sit home. First of all, their courtyard looks amazing. It's intimate and candlelit, and they have some really amazing art on the walls. And that's not even including the world-famous Jeremy Novy designed graffiti birds flying all along the outside wall. The actual dance party is called Relapse, and it's every Friday night. DJ Matt Scott plays the best combo of 80's, 90's and 2000's hip hop and pop music. He really knows how to keep the crowd happy, and the dance floor was totally packed. It reminded of Soul Sister Saturday's. HiHo did an amazing job of making a weekend long party spot for us locals, and I will be a regular every Friday. Now to the food. Fry and Pie is the best bar food ever!!! I got the Turkey dinner fries, which were cheesy and filling. The turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce worked perfectly on the fries, and the strawberry moon pie was like God and Jesus swimming around in my mouth. Come dance your face off, and get some cheap drinks and to-die-for French fries and pie to soak up all that alcohol. I have found my new Friday night spot!!

Found this place much more open. The staff helped me decide on some great beer. I would totally continue inviting friends to the events hosted here.

Oh Hi Ho, you never disappoint. This place was one of the first spots after moving here that loved because I could get away from all the tourists. Which I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Let's set the stage though this place is usually over run with the hipsters and that can be a bit much to handle 99% of the time. As stated before it is always dark except for the few lights near the bar. The floors are nasty so don't wear shoes you care about. That plus the over crowded space will guarantee you should probably leave your shoes outside of the house when you finally get home that morning. I'm not sure when it closes but so far I've found it's not 4 am. Did I mention there is very little air flow. You will be drenched with sweat when leaving no matter the time of year or how long you stay. I think there is still a food situation out back. I can't say for sure because very few times have I been able to get towards that door leading to the back yard-ish area. I know fry and pie (I think that's what they are called) has a walk up window on the Marigny St side of the building. Most importantly drinks are cheap. With all of that being said, you will not have a better time anywhere else in this city after 1 am. That's a promise. I can confidently say this because I've been there post midnight sober. I think. Nonetheless waiting until after midnight is the key. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. By then all has been sifted out and you will be left with only those who are dedicated to dance. You have to dance and you have to drink. Whether it's a Saturday night and DJ Soul Sister is spinning from her unmatched vinyl collection or another night of the week. It's a blast and you will feel as if you've simultaneously had the best workout of your life. What are you waiting for?

I love this bar. Friendly owners, strong drinks, and the is a restaurant in the back called Fry and Pie that serves absolutely delicious food. Live entertainment is always happening at the bar, something for everyone. Check it out if you can!

Don't let the exterior fool you, you can't see inside, there are bars on the windows, the place looks altogether unwelcoming during the day. We were hopping around the dives on St. Claude and were drawn over by the sound of brass blasting out the open door and ended up having a great time dancing in front of the small stage they have. We went into the courtyard in the back for a cigarette and noticed this amazing mural of Fidel Castro zapping an American baby in the womb of a woman with a laser beam from his cigar. We hung out with some friendly locals before heading out to the next place, I'd definitely come back.

Hi Ho is okay. It's one of the "dirtier" bars/clubs on a street that is already pretty filthy. I've been in here a few times over the years, but most recently I was here for DJ Soul Sister's dance party, that once used to reside at Mimi's. If you remember how packed the upstairs of Mimi's used to get, multiply that by about 20 and you'll get an idea of what we are dealing with here. First of all, on this particular night, the entire place was dark except for the bar. That in and off itself, made me a little nervous. The place was absolutely packed, which I wouldn't have had an issue with, but when people start drinking, they tend to not watch where they are stepping. I hung out by the bar for as long as a could and then finally decided to bail. I should also mention, that the ladies room was out of order and only one bathroom was working. Needless to say, I decided against using the men's room. In the past, I have seen bands and burlesque shows here that were a lot less hectic, so I might go back for something like that.

Hi Ho is just plain damn great. A true shady lady, but one that turns out to become more like a maternal figure... a crack whore with a heart of gold. You'd never know by looking at its shacktastic exterior, but inside is extremely inviting. It's dark, without being too dark that you're wondering what's crawling around down there. The ceilings are high so its not claustrophobic (which is more what I'd expect just judging from the outside). Vinyl booths might be half broken down, but sit yer ass on the good side, that's all. The bar is a decent size, drinks are cheap (they have a drinkable red wine, imagine that) and the bartender is really nice. They have music and other entertainment on the regular and yes, that stage is nice suprise. Layout affords a good view. I haven't seen a show here yet, as I was here in the early hours when it was still pretty quiet, so I can't comment to sound. Just yet. I will report back once that happens. And it will! That's a promise. Aaaaand, hello, Wandering Buddha serving up phenomenal vegan Korean food in the back takes it to the next level. So, another great bar on the St. Claude stretch. Between Hi Ho, Kajun's, Sibertia and Allways, I really have no need to leave it. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to St. Claude I go!

We recently spent some time in New Orleans, and this ended up being one of our favorite spots for drinks and live music. It's great if you want something different than the traditional jazz you'll find in the French Quarter, and every night there's a few different bands or other performers (we really wanted to see a Burlesque show but the timing didn't work out). Great deals on drinks, and the Fry & Pie stand in the back is a GEM. Definitely get one of their loaded fry dishes (omg).

Went to a party last night ,around 11pm, with friends and the bouncer and security were incredibly rude and inappropriate towards my friend,she rsvp for the event and her name still wasn't on the list so she had to pay and while she was putting her things back in her bag to go in (mind you the bar is dark) they were barking at her to go in the club like she was inconveniencing their job. If they were on top of thing in the first place she wouldn't have had to go in her bag period.And they were rude to many other attendees.

Hi Ho is a great spot for local music away from all of the tourists but whats even better is that on Tuesday nights not only do they have great live music but there is also a bbq truck out front on most Tuesdays serving some of the best BBQ you can find in New Orleans. BBQ and blues, the ultimate combination for a Tuesday night. See you there.

Great spot for late night dancing! My friends and I like to go on Saturdays to see DJ Soul Sister. No cover. Most recently, we went last Saturday and she did a tribute to Prince. She comes on around 11pm. People start filling in around then as well and it gets paaaaacked! No dress code, but if you have a tendency to sweat, make sure to dress appropriately! It can get very hot inside, especially when you're working it on the dance floor. Try to get there early if there's a special occasion (festivals, parades, etc) to make sure you can secure a spot. Bar is busy, but you can get a drink in a reasonable amount of time. I've seen a food truck in the back courtyard as well... But I didn't go out there this time. Had a blast and danced all night!

Hi Ho Lounge a little hole in the wall of a club with a bar and live music. I went hear on a Sunday night to to hear DJ Soul Sista, and for this to be New Orleans I was surprised by the crowd. The crowd was very Georgia Tech, Duke University, etc. Not a rhythm in sight. The music was good, but not good enough to spend all night dancing to. After hearing so many Michael Jackson spins and "Soul Train" 1960/1970 songs being played it was time for me to leave, which was good because it was severely packed and hot inside and someone's Omega Omega Omega fraternity bother spilled a drink on me. I've definitely experienced better.

About as weird as it gets. This is one of my favorite dive bars in New Orleans. Come for some comedy, burlesque, a live show, or just to get blackout drunk on Miller High Life by yourself at the bar. Anything goes here, or so I assume. They also have some kind of food options on certain nights. If you're into weird dive bars, it's not to be missed.

Bartenders are great, and food out back in the courtyard is always good. I've seen a few bands play here and it'll get packed, but they're always good shows. Hi-Ho is unique in that it's the bar with the most comedy shows. There's an alternative comedy show every Saturday night before DJ Soul Sister. Drunk story telling on the first Saturday with Close Me Out, live-voiced animated cartoons with Drunktoons, improv with Brown on the third, and a comedy gameshow The Rip-off Show on the fourth Saturday of each month. Plus, every Sunday night they have a stand-up open mic. I like to come early for the comedy and then stick around for the music.

The pie we had was holy wow super yummy. The gal that makes them is incredibly talented and fun to talk to. Go for the pie alone! But the atmosphere was delightfully fun and funky and listening to the steel guitar player, Beardsley, was one of the highlights of our trip to the city. Excellent guitar playing and a heck of a nice guy. If you get a chance to check out "fry and pie", don't miss it!

This is a hip club off the beaten path, with exciting musical offerings, check for listings before you head out. Options could include an incredible funky soul dance party with WWOZ's own DJ Soul Sister, an acoustic night of picking to get your bluegrass on, the music of the Grateful preformed live, or a 90's DJ just to name a few. The drinks are cheap the vibe is intimate and on the divey side. The back courtyard has a tasty kitchen dishing out a unique take on gourmet fresh cut fries and delicious pies!

Worst staff I've ever experienced. And I've been going to bars, clubs, and venues for 20 years. Last night we politely queued up in line outside, it was 30 degrees and raining so not really ideal for hanging out. There were 4 of us, we sat there patiently and watched 12-15 people exit over about 10 minutes. Then when I asked if anyone of us could go in the door person told me that 10 people had to leave for every one person who wanted to come in! When I looked inside there were only 50-60 people in the joint, so I asked if we should even bother to stick around since the chances of the place emptying out just to get the 4 of us seemed remote. At that point the door person started screaming at me, so we left. This place is terrible. If you're going to massively oversell the room (fire Marshall take note) then don't yank your poor wet, cold customers around and make them wait for entrance when that's not even a remote possibility. Just tell people "no, sorry, we're full tonight and won't be letting anyone in for awhile because we're oversold. You're welcome to wait but it's going to be a long wait."

Badass bar in an area with some of my favourite bars, which is also kindof a dangerous part of town, so be careful. We popped in for a drink and the red divey room, mixed up crowd, lovely little stage called my name. But the most important thing you need to know is you might see a brass band covering Nirvana here. In fact, forget it, that's all you need to know.

Out of all of the bars that my girlfriend and I checked out in New Orleans, Hi Ho Lounge was our favorite. We were in town on a Saturday night, and Frenchman Street was really crowded. We had heard from several people prior to our trip that Frenchman was where the locals went, but everyone seemed like a tourist to me. One of my girlfriend's friends had recommended Hi Ho Lounge, so we walked up Frenchman to check out this place. Hi Ho was packed and the air was thick and muggy. We contemplated getting drinks, but the line was really long and we were already tipsy, so we didn't bother with it. The music is what really made our experience memorable. I've never heard anything quite like what the DJ was spinning at Hi Ho. It was like a mix of old school R&B with 80's synths, and pounding EDM beats. At first, we thought it was a little strange, but after a few minutes we were completely entranced by the music. Everyone on the dance floor was having a great time, and the whole bar seemed to be filled with good vibes. We danced until we felt exhausted, and then we went outside to cool off. It was a great experience. If you want to dance to some great music on a Saturday night, you should definitely hit up the Hi Ho Lounge.

Hosts a variety of shows and very supportive of the local artist community. The staff is great and the prices more than reasonable. Brett is one of the Quarter's best bartenders.

I've only been here on Saturday nights for DJ Soul Sister. We love coming here on Saturday nights because of the super cool vibe. My roommate usually works late on Saturdays so an 11pm start time is perfect. The bartenders are efficient and the drink prices are totally reasonable so it's easy to get your sway on after a drink (or four). While the dance floor is small, people are pretty cool out there and I don't worry too much about people getting out of hand. There is an outside patio where there is usually a Cuban food truck that has excellent food in case you need some sustenance. Bathroom is a single one for each and the line can get pretty ridiculous so plan ahead if you're drinking. Cab situation can be hard at the end of the night but just wait patiently and one will drive by eventually. (You can try Uber now that Uberx is available but that's totally a crapshoot.)

The Hi Ho is just about all you need in a dive bar music venue: a few high top tables around the periphery, bar with efficient bartenders, and lots of room in the middle for dancing. The entertainment ranges from comedy and burlesque to bluegrass, funk, brass band...you name it. And to help soak up all that alcohol, there's the marvelous Fry & Pie's walkup window in the back of the building. Don't miss this!

It is packed and sweaty but the music is good and the drinks are reasonable. You're going to have a great time here, but be prepared to be up all night long! Last time I was here the power went out in most of the Marigny and this was the only place still lit up!

Went with a group of friends to eat h a comedy show of comedians recounting drunk stories of themselves. We laughed the entire time. We also ate there, everything we had was good, too bad there was no room left to try anything else. Great staff.

The Hi Ho Lounge is a lovely little surprise. The interior leads you to believe it's a regular dive bar--but don't miss the patio with the Fry & Pie! A greater little pub patio, it has lights, murals, and when I was there incense making it a special little oasis in the neighborhood.

This dive joint is mostly a music and event focused venue. The main thing that can be said about this place is that its red both outside and inside. When it gets crowded the bartenders can get a bit grumpy and things can move really slow so they might need to hire more bartenders for crowded shows. It can also get really hot when it gets crowded which when that displeasure is increased by the length of time it takes to get a drink the combination can make customers a bit grumpy. This is a good place to watch music when it isn't packed but be cautious if it is packed as there might be grumpy people inside. Every Monday is Bluegrass and Hi Ho is really the only place in the entire NOLA area that you can regularly enjoy that music form and that's my favorite time in this joint.

Absolutely the WORST experience I have ever had at a venue. I am in complete disbelief by how they treat their customers. Their security staff was unreasonable, inappropriate, and abrasive. I saw this interaction with more than multiple music industry attendees at the venue who were being completely appropriate with their interactions. Will never return.

What a fantastic dive bar! Went on Monday night for $1 red beans and rice, and got to sway to the wonderful bluegrass/folk beat of the pickin' pole. Good stuff, good crowd, even in a less than savory neighborhood. Just walk there with a group if you're uncomfortable. And got dinner for almost nothing- warning to all, it's totally not vegetarian, but hey, there's rice and bread otherwise! Drinks are reasonable, $2.50 for a high life, $5.50 for call liquor. Annnnnd I'm a little embarrassed I just admitted to drinking high life on yelp. What? it was an economical night!

The hipster bar to end all hipster bars. I can't think of any place I'd rather be on a Saturday night than dancing to DJ Soul Sister at Hi Ho Lounge. I've only ever been on Saturdays, but I've never had a bad time at Hi Ho. I'm sure any other night would be just as fun. The crowd is...eccentric, but it gives the place a certain charm that you wouldn't expect just from looking at it on the outside. It's a tight space, and it gets pretty packed later in the night, but if you need a break from the dancing, go outside and check out the patio and see what food they're serving that night. There's always a different pop-up restaurant in the back. The cubanos are supposedly the best in the city!
