On the Grid : Hi-Lo Diner

"Mom's open-faced turkey sandwich never tasted so good. Hi-Lo Diner's brand-new-yet-vintage aesthetic is welcoming and palpably nostalgic -- with their blue vinyl booths and a long, stainless steel bar-top that spans the length of the 1957 diner-car. The façade of this new Longfellow greasy-spoon made its journey to Minneapolis from it's original home in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. These days it beacons the masses to enjoy an ice-cream cocktail or a taste of their house specialty, a "Hi-Top," one of a number of savory or sweet pairings balanced atop a donut-like puff of bread. Definitely a place to take your date for late-night breakfast and drinks among the buzz of those killer neon lights." - Paper Bicycle

The 10 Best Brunch Restaurants In Minneapolis - Minneapolis - The Infatuation

"At first glance, Hi-Lo is a retro diner with chrome fixtures, neon signage, and breakfast that’s served all day. But if you inquire a bit further, you’ll find out that the building was originally built in 1957 outside of Pittsburgh, and in 2015 the building was transported by semi-truck across state lines. Their menu has modern tweaks on diner favorites: dessert-for-breakfast types should order the lavender-scented french toast, and if you swing savory, try the hearty Tex-Mex burrito (vegan chorizo available by request). Or go both ways with the Gary Cooper hi-top, a housemade donut topped with fried chicken and served with country gravy and maple-bourbon syrup. The Hi-Lo Bloody Mary screams Midwest—it’s made with a pickle and Slim Jim mix and served with a spicy cheese curd garnish." - stacy brooks

On the Grid : Le Town Talk Diner

"A little piece of Marseilles sits in a narrow strip off bustling Lake Street in midtown Minneapolis. Le Town Talk diner brings a piece of France to our lips with a combination of signature family recipes and working-class eats from the owner Emilie Cellai's hometown of Marseilles. If you're not there for the food or the rouge-tinted ambiance, you'll certainly enjoy the full bar and specialty wine cocktails. It's definitely a place to sit, sip, and enjoy the company of friends. The flashy marquee is hard to miss." - Paper Bicycle

Where to Eat at Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (MSP) - Eater Twin Cities

"Hi-Lo is a reliable stop for breakfast dishes like “Hi-Tops” (fried dough piled with savory or sweet toppings), Tex-Mex burritos, and frittatas. Other diner fare is served too, like burgers and wedge salads, plus beer, wine and cocktails. This place is best for a sit-down meal." - Justine Jones
