The 38 Best Restaurants in Bangkok, Thailand | Eater

"The area around Sam Yan Market – known today for catering to nearby university students – used to be famous for its seafood restaurants. These grandes dames of cuisine were often helmed by Thai Chinese cooks with a talent for melding fresh Thai ingredients with Chinese cooking methods such as steaming and stir-frying. Most of the big names have since moved on to more glamorous neighborhoods, but Nakorn Phochana remains, churning out the same stir-fried curried crab, tom yum (spicy lemongrass) soup, and langoustine tails that first charmed diners 50 years ago. Look out for the restaurant’s version of fried rice with Chinese olives, studded with fresh chilies, cashews, and slivers of lime." - Chawadee Nualkhair

This my first time at Hi Nakorn It’s a well-known, classic-style Thai restaurant famous for its traditional dishes. They serve things like stir-fried noodles, crispy pork belly, Chinese-Thai comfort foods, and other popular street-style meals. It’s popular among locals, students (because it’s near Chulalongkorn University), and anyone looking for authentic, nostalgic flavors at reasonable prices. Menu • ข้าวหมูกรอบ (Crispy Pork with Rice) – their crispy pork is famous: super crunchy skin with tender meat. • ราดหน้า (Rad Na) – stir-fried noodles with gravy, very flavorful. • ข้าวผัดปู (Crab Fried Rice) – simple but packed with real crab meat. • ข้าวไข่ข้นกุ้ง (Shrimp Omelet over Rice) – soft and fluffy omelet loaded with shrimp. It’s a casual, fast-paced place — you might need to share a table if it’s busy. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion. Would love to recommend. I will comeback again. #lunch #chefnittreeya #traval #thebestresturant

I recommend coming here if your after authentic Chinese food with a local touch and if your teo chew its even better as most of the dishes will remind you of the old country. I recommend just about anything they serve here especially the fish head stew and the 3 combination deep fried taro, tofu and radish cake. The customer service is excellent, the restaurant is clean and tidy. I will definitely come back the next time I travel to Thailand. Just another edit they also sell the shrimp cakes, taro cakes and raddish cakes frozen so you can take it home to cook, also I managed to bring about 7 KG back to Australia provided you have the cooling bag.

Long history of Chinese seafood restaurant. Good taste with fresh ingredients and well cooked. Smoked duck are my favorite. They have several popular menu. Cash and QR payment. English menu with picture are available. Not far from MRT Samyarn and located close to Chulalongkorn University. Updated on November 2024 Everything are the same quality, fresh ingredients and seafood are really fresh and good quality. Recommended !

Old school Chinese-Thai style restaurant. Some of the dishes were fantastic, like their stir fried crab, but others were hit or miss, like the stir fried squid with water mimosa (squid was very tough). Service was OK, they forgot one of our dishes. Prices are a bit on the higher side due to smaller portions.

The more than 30 years old traditional Chinese restaurant which moved to the new place at Samyan market. Many favorite dishes of the old styled dishes here such as Curry crab , stir-fried oyster , deep fried pork fillet , braised goose feet with noodles , duck tongue with salts & garlics , steamed Chinese herring with sour plum , sunflower sprout and some desserts such as deep fried sweet taro , taro with sticky rices , sweet ginkgo. Set menus are also available. Prices are quite high so good for some occasions , not everyday. Many parking spaces.

A great no frills restaurant! Have been coming here for more than two decades. Never disappoints me! Most of dishes have a few sizes to meet your party demand! It also has a few hard to find dishes elsewhere. BTW, there is corkage charge! Highly recommend!

The restaurant has been renovated and modernized. 2 out of 4 dishes we ordered are good; sizzling mussel with egg (หอยทอด) and sauté veggie (ผัดต้นอ่อนทานตะวัน). Both dishes are 150 bht each. You will feel cozy like eating at grandma house....

Long time favorite in the area. Recommended: Stir fried fish in black pepper, crab curry, etc. Stewed duck and pot noodles were just ok though, not great. The price was on the higher side for this type of restaurant. Paid parking was available in the Samyan area or inside Chula.
