Hide-Chan Ramen Review - Midtown East - New York - The Infatuation

"Run by the same folks that brought Totto Ramen to Midtown, Hide-Chan is a great spot for a bowl of ramen. Totto is dedicated to a mastery over the less common chicken-based ramen broth, whereas Hide-Chan specializes in tonkotsu broth, which means “very excellent pork bone fat water” in Japanese. You walk up a flight of stairs into a room that’s a little sterile and a little serious, but pleasant nonetheless. Not quite like Totto Ramen’s open kitchen and East Village vibe. Either way, we like them both, and there are a few unique things about Hide-Chan that earned our favor. We love the garlicky Kuro Ramen and the Mega Ton is just sort of hilarious to order. We also like the fact that you can specify how firm you would like your noodles cooked. You can even tell them how fatty you would like your ramen broth, from rich to light. Choose wisely. Food Rundown Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen The house standard ramen, and probably the universal favorite. This is rich, salty, and porky...just like ramen should be. Mega Ton First of all, probably the best name for a bowl of soup ever. Second of all, it fits. This is a bowl of ramen stuffed full of extra vegetables and thick cut pork, to the point where you might need another bowl and a working knowledge of fluid displacement theory to manage it. Hakata Spicy Ramen The tonkotsu ramen, but with spicy sauce. You can tell them how spicy you would like it. Hakata Kuro Ramen As long as you can handle diving into a bowl that looks like a squid got wringed out into it, then order this. The black inky sauce in the bowl is actually an oil made from roasted garlic, and it's awesome. The garlic flavor isn’t as abrasive as you might expect after seeing an oil slick made from the stuff - this is a nicely balanced and tasty bowl of noodles Pork Buns We’ve never met a pork bun we don’t like, and that remains true after eating this. But these are not the best buns you will ever eat. All of the key elements are here, (pork, bun, mayo, lettuce) but these are small and the pork is a little thin for this application." - Chris Stang

Pretty calm environment I went around 4pm when the happy hour starts and the food and plum wine was amazing. I got ramen and the nice thing is they let you add extra ingredients and you can substitute any of the fish or pork broths for vegetarian broth. Overall like the atmosphere the staff is chill and helpful. Would definitely come back

Google
A tasty bowl of Ramen. Friendly and hospitable wait staff. Food tasted fresh. Decor is creative and tasteful. The restaurant recently opened up again for indoor dining. They adhere to mask wearing, contact tracing and social distancing dining. Highly recommend anyone in town or near the area to try this place out. Friendly staff.

Google
Hands down one of my favorite ramen spots in the city. Try anything with the pork broth. The rich broth is perfect for cold winter nights (or anytime). The pork buns do the job and the fried chicken will be just what you want. Pro tip: they do not have plasticwear for you to take home any leftover ramen so bring your own if you can't finish your ramen.

Google
The food here was pretty mind-blowing. The meats are not only tender, but lightly sweet (not in an overpowering way) which is just how I like it. The ingredients together complimented each other well, and you can actually taste the difference between the noodle firmness (we tried medium and firm. The broth is admittedly very rich and not everyone will be able to finish it, but it's good nonetheless.

I visited around December of 2019 - super cozy and comfortable and as a party of two we were seated by the bar in about 5 minutes flat. If you're a larger party i recommend calling ahead to see if any table could be reserved. We ordered the lunch special: one tonkotsu ramen and one spicy garlic ramen with karage chicken, a pork bun, and pork gyoza. Super yummy and all for around 45$. I would definitely come back once covid settles down

Google
Our go to ramen place in Manhattan. Have tried so many ramen places throughout the city over the past 10 years and Hide-Chan is always our go to. The spicy garlic ramen and the tan tan ramen are particularly good as are the various appetizers. Everything is good.

Google
Went for lunch today with my friend. It's a rather small and quaint place, not suitable for large groups over 4 people. You can be seated rather quickly if it's party of two, but any larger usually there is a wait. Large parties should go before noon. This location is on the 2nd floor and the waiting area is on the staircase because there is no room inside the restaurant to wait. Everything is laid out and designed to maximize the space which is like the ramen places I've tried in Japan. The food was good and really helped my ramen craving (a little saltier than I like, but nonetheless delicious). They are closed for about an hour between lunch and dinner. Give them a try and enjoy.

The place, the environment and the taste of music were great. Me and my girlfriend were craving for ramen, so we decided to tried this place. This was our first experience in a restaurant since the pandemic started. I tried the Deluxe ramen and my girlfriend the spicy garlic ramen they were great. We also tried for the first time the Oroshi Ponzu Gyoza, it was very tasty and delicious, we really liked it. Great place to start eating again in a restaurant after a long time.

Yelp
I have a bad news for my fellow yelpers today. Hide-chan Ramen has closed now and I was there at last day Jan. 11 for dinner. Since I was with my fellow workers, I drunk and had a few appetizers but skipped my last ramen that night. They had quite few items out of order and that was maybe sign of it. I loved this place and hoping Hide-chan will be back in new place soon.

Yelp
The black garlic tonkatsu ramen was delicious! I really enjoyed it at the time. Service was also good. Nice and calm around 5pm before the dinner rush starts. I had a relaxing meal here!

Yelp
I hate leaving these reviews, but given that my friend and I got two different Ramens and we both agreed that BOTH were the worst Ramen we have ever had, I have to leave two stars. The reason for two stars instead of one is because everything except the Ramen was great. We got an eel appetizer with cucumber that was wonderful. We also got radish kimchi that was delightful, tangy and refreshing. However, the two different Ramens that we both got were equally extremely oily, lacking in flavor, and overall muddy.

Yelp
Came here for the first time & know this will be my go to spot. Greeted warmly upon arrival, seated rite away (Tuesday nite at 545p) and the food came quickly. Had some yummy dumplings for appetizer & Ramen for main meal. I appreciated that we were left alone & never rushed out the door. Definitely lots of regulars that come in to enjoy their meal & out the door w in 30 mins. The broth was rich & spicy but not overpowering in my spicey garlic. Volume of the restaurant was never loud & servers were constantly attentive. Highly recommend

Yelp
Stopped by because I was going to Broadway Comedy Club next door and had an excellent dinner. Ordered classic ramen and the noodles were perfectly firm, the broth was creamy with a delightful umami taste. I got a lychee and sake cocktail-was okay, but tasted a bit artificial. Overall, would love to come back here

Yelp
A nice hole in the wall with authentic made to order Japan style comfort food at a reasonable price. We ordered the edamame which came out perfectly cooked with a nice crunch and just the right amount of salt. The pork friend rice was also a nice appetizer (a bit peppery for mutate but also good). We also had the fried tako (octopus) which has a crunchy coating and soft flavorful bite. Wish there was a dipping axcompanyment. Mae hade two deluxe ramen and two miso ramen. The small wait was worth it as it was full of flavor without overpowering the experience or taste. The place wanted and clean and staff was attentive and professional. Reservations are recommended although I saw a few open tables.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday party on an early Sunday evening. The service was top notch and the staff were very patient. The food was freshly made and so good. Their deep fried items - chicken karaage and skewers were very tasty. There were a range of ramen noodles to choose from. I went to for the classic and did not regret it at all. Would love to try the hot/fire one next time. Also I left a book at the place and the staff was nice enough to keep it for me!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid ramen spot tucked away in midtown! The karaage was crunchy and juicy and pretty good ramen for the price. I enjoyed the deluxe ramen better than the black garlic ramen, the broth had better flavor and lots of toppings for the price. I got the noodles firm so it wouldnt be too soggy while i was eating it and it was perfect.

Yelp
I really like this place. The vibe is really great -- it is on the second floor (above *another* ramen place, ironically), and is very well-decorated. It really feels like you are in Japan. I sat at the bar, though they have several small tables in areas that seem great for an dinner with a few friends. The ramen was very good. Service was friendly.

Yelp
I'm a big fan. I enjoy Hide-Chan a lot, but what's funny about it is that I only rarely get the ramen. Instead, I get a lot of the appetizers and the other things they have. Their Kara-age (fried chicken) is fantastic. Some of the best japanese style fried chicken in Manhattan, for me. They have a good selection of veggie appetizers. The spicy cucumber and spicy bamboo salads are particularly good. The takoyaki is great and succulent. That's just a few of the things I enjoy there, too many to list. I'm a big fan of the cocktails as well. The ramen here is pretty good - not my favorite in the neighborhood but solid. But the variety of other appetizers and dishes keeps me coming back.

Yelp
Update: After years of coming here, they informed me that my type is no longer welcome here. Time to find a new go-to ramen shop. Still my favorite ramen spot! Had the Kuro ramen during my last visit, it was very good, but my favorite is still the Miso ramen. Awesome place to grab a steaming hot bowl of ramen. These haters on here have no idea what a great bowl of ramen is. Plus some of them talk about menu items that do not exist here at Hide Chan Ramen on 52nd street. I am blown away that this establishment doesn't have a 4 - 4.5 average rating. This place is a true gem.

Yelp
We came on a Saturday night, and it wasn't too busy. I got the Kuro ramen (black garlic) with firm and wavy noodles. Definitely think this is the way to go. I thought the noodles had a great texture and were done really well. But the broth was okay. Satisfies the craving but wasn't as flavorful or dimensional as I'd hoped. The black garlic also made the broth too oily for my liking. I wish it came with an egg, but more importantly I feel like the portion of noodles I was given was especially small compared to others (I'm a slow eater yet I still finished eating first--a rarity). Overall, an okay ramen place. Great speedy service though.

Yelp
This is my friend's to go place and fav rec of a time. There is never a wait time, service is fast. It feels very hidden and intimate. I didn't find the ramen to be super special in any particular way, but it's definitely comfort food. It is very satisfying as the portion size is just right. I love the mix all the stuff they include in my ramen.

Yelp
Ambiance (5/5): I originally mistakenly went to the ramen shop next door but Hide-Chan is located to the right and upstairs. I loved the decorations and the wall of cartoon masks--it felt very on point to Japanese culture. The background TV by their full bar was playing a video of the streets of Japan, which helped get me immersed. Not loud but on the dim side for lighting. Service (5/5): Since there was only 3 parties in the establishment on a Sunday evening, I thought that the service was wonderful. I was well attended to. Food (3.5/5): Pork Bun (2/5): The sauce on the bun was delicious however the cut of meat was tough. Flavor was on point but the texture took it away from me. Spicy Classic Ramen (3/5): The slices of pork were very tender and flavorful! The ramen was cooked to my liking (I asked for firm wavy). I like spicy food and this was not too spicy. The broth was missing an element of umami that didn't take it home for me!

Yelp
I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews! It's not top tier Michelin star ramen - but when you're craving a bowl of noodles this will hit the spot and leave you satisfied. The ambience and decor is really cute inside, which makes the overall experience so much fun too. I ordered their new Kakuni Ramen for $20 (braised pork belly, pork oil, scallion, leek), so I can't speak to some of their more traditional ramens. That being said, this was delicious. There was a decent amount of pork that was cooked perfectly, and the broth was light and not too oily. It's served with a pepper shaker, so you can adjust the soup to your personal tastes. I would definitely come order this again - I'm sure the traditional ramens are great, but in a city packed full of tonkotsus, this Kakuni dish stood out because of its uniqueness.

Yelp
The ramen here is nothing groundbreaking but at least it's not bad. Yuzu cocktail was HEAVY on the alc which some people might like. Cucumber cocktail was refreshing.

Yelp
This is more of a 3.5 star place. They only get upped a star because of the horrible experiences at recent restaurants in HK; ones that should have known better. At least Hide-Chan doesn't try to pretend it is more than it actually is, which is a neighborhood Ramen restaurant. There is no "ambiance" to speak of. It's a dark-ish, small space with standard and satisfactory service. But as Ramen goes, it's pretty good; surprisingly so. Compared to some of the more popular ones we've been to recently, it hold its own. The hubby and I both had the Spicy ramen; he just had a few extras added to it. We started with a small order of their special gyoza. A little pricey for what it is, but not for where it is. Really no downside. Not a lot of upside. It does the job and thensome when those ramen cravings arise.

Yelp
2/5 Hide-Chan Ramen (33rd Bowl out of 100) Deluxe Ramen - $19. Broth: 1/5. Clean and light. Not concentrated and meaty flavored. However, it is fatty. Chashu: 3/5. Has a tough chew to it. Very charred and fatty piece. Noodles: 3/5. Chewy, but not bouncy. Pairs really well with the broth. Side Note(s): Egg: has a very concentrated and deep soy sauce marinade! Appetizers: Karaage: 1/5. $9. Dry and has a tough chew. Was hoping for meat juice to gush. Pork Bun: 3/5. $5. Crunchy and sweet. Had a slice of cucumber and lettuce giving it texture. The pork itself didn't shine too much. Total: $35.93

Yelp
Tasty vegetable ramen. Came here for a nice ramen lunch with family. The interior is cute, with simple wooden decor and just a few tables inside. The wall is covered in cute plastic character masks, and I saw that they had seating for solo diners back by the bar. I was really pleased that they had a vegetable ramen option, since sometimes I'm not in the mood for a meaty broth or pork/beef in my meal. The vegetable ramen has a ton of toppings: corn, cabbage, avocado, spinach, peppers, tomato... I was really surprised by how much I liked the avocado. It added a nice fattiness to the meal since there was no meat. I really didn't like the garlic chips (?) as a topping - each bite made it incredibly bitter. I liked that you could choose your noodle - wavy/straight and firmness. Would recommend this location!

Yelp
I've been going here for many years, albeit not since Covid. I went for lunch here today -- about 2 - 3 years since last time. Honestly, I was underwhelmed. No, it wasn't bad, but it was just meh. The eggplant t appetiser was excellent, but the ramen just didn't excite me as in the past. Having said that, I ate the entire bowl...I was hungry.

Yelp
This ramen shop was located on E 53nd St near 2nd Ave. It was right next to Totto Ramen. When you go inside, you'll head up a flight of stairs. I came here for dinner. Since I was dining alone, I was seated at the bar. After looking over the menu, I ordered their deluxe ramen with firm straight noodles and an order of edamame with sea salt. I liked that in addition to some pretty standard ingredients, the bowl of ramen came with cod roe. It was a good bowl of ramen. Service was also good. I wouldn't mind coming back here again.

Yelp
Food/Drinks: We had a lot to eat which wasn't pictured as we were starving. We had Karage, Shrimp Tempura, Takoyaki, Spicy Garlic Ramen, Kakuni Ramen, and Deluxe Ramen. Everything was cooked to perfection. The fried appetizers hit the spot and were absolutely amazing. I wouldn't mind coming back just for the appetizers. The ramen noodles were filling and full of flavor. The broths were also super delicious. We went during the winter and the warmth of the food was delightful! Service: The server was super sweet and took so many pictures for our group. She was accommodating and the overall service was decent in terms of timing. Ambiance: I liked how cozy the place was and the masks of familiar characters we grew up with adorned the walls. The place was really pretty and I love the dim lighting. It really matched the winter mood and kept us warm. Also, I took film photos of the food and the masks which I have attached! Don't mind the super blurry picture since I forgot to turn on live for that...

Yelp
absolutely delicious ramen i love eating the classic but i don't eat the vegetables so i gave them to my dad and i just ate the ramen and drank the broth and ate the pork pieces it was so good yummy yum yum

Yelp
Delicious food, good service, prices are ok, I don't love the ambiance so I always get takeout. I'd come more often and eat in if they could improve ventilation. Im bothered by a think smells of food that permeates everywhere currently
google avatar

Wei T.

Yelp
It's pretty established and old ramen place in town. Service is good and easy to find a table even on Saturday night. Ramen is decent in flavorful enough broth, and the store offers 2 different kinds of noodles- wavy and regular. I think wavy one is chewier. We also ordered fried chicken and fried squid for appetizers. The only complaint I can nitpick is the size of appetizers is small compared to the price. Ambiance is cozy. It is definitely a good place when you are nearby midtown and craved for a bowl of ramen.
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
Starting to cool off so we decided to stop in for Ramen. Hide-Channis located on the second floor and is very quaint. It is relatively dark inside and there isn't a lot of seating. The waiter came over straight away and poured glasses of water and delivered menus and chopsticks. They had some specials but I went off the menu. I ordered the miso ramen. This one had corn in it, which was new to me but I liked it. The broth was super rich and flavorful. The pork was tender and delicious. I like the dish a lot just wished it was hotter. It wasn't cold by any means, I just wanted it warmer than what they served. Will definitely go back and may ask to have them serve it hotter!

Yelp
I came with pretty high expectations since this was advertised as a "Michelin guide dinner" but I was disappointed with almost every aspect of my meal. The food here is mediocre. The service here was terrible and I can't see a reason why I would come back. The ramen was decent - the broth was flavorful for all the ramens we ordered. Do not order the poke bowl - it was disappointing; the fish was not that fresh and the rice was overcooked. We ordered two sushi rolls because we were craving sushi. The salmon roll was bad - the fish was not fresh at all, the topping salmon was a terrible texture and there was way too much rice to salmon ratio. The service - our food came out so slowly. The poke bowl came out with the sushi rolls which was weird since that was my sisters main order and the sushi we were gonna share. The ramen came out 30 min later, after everyone else in the restaurant who came in had already gotten their food. We did come with a voucher that advertised this restaurant as a Michelin guide dinner but the service here leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. TLDR: the ramen is worth ordering, but don't expect spectacular service or sushi.

Yelp
I arrived for a 2pm lunch on a Sunday. I was sat at the bar. The bar is nice in that it has lights under the table which helps with the dimness. The bar area is darker while the other part of the restaurant closer to the window has natural light coming in. Happy to see there's lunch sets on a weekend. I got three pieces of fried chicken for $3 on top of a bowl of ramen. The fried chicken was three big pieces. I like how it was sitting on a bed of baby spinach because I actually ate it afterwards. The chicken was not and juicy and tender but the flavoring is off about it. There's this stinging feeling on the tongue perhaps from too much rice wine (?). Honestly I don't know what it is but my mom's chicken has the same issue. I won't get the fried chicken next time if I get the lunch set. Ramen I got the Kogashi Ramen because it has that seared soy sauce my brother swears by. I found the broth to be too oily. If also has this medicinal aftertaste. I can't tell what it is. Also appreciate how the broth came out steaming hot. I can't pinpoint the seared soy sauce flavor but there's definitely a "wok flavor" going on. Eating the bean sprouts and leaks with this flavor in the background makes me think of Cantonese food. I always like lots of veggies in my ramen. Charshu was nice actually. It's more meat than fat. It's rectangular instead of round like other places. It's very tender and no old stale taste. It got slightly tougher near the end of my meal. For noodles you can choose hardness and straight or wavy. I saw someone on Yelp posted the two types of noodles. Wavy looks more eggy. I'm getting that!! I always love eggy noodles. It came out exactly as I wanted. It was chewy and springy and slippery! Most ramen places give straight so I'm happy to know there's wavy here. The meal overall had unsatisfactory parts but there are elements I like and see potential to be better. Maybe I just didn't choose the best items for my taste.

Alana K.

Yelp
This place was alright. We ordered the spicy cucumbers, fried gyzo, pork bun, miso ramen, and mille crepe with green tea ice cream. The cucumbers weren't spicy (which isn't a bad thing) but they also lacked flavor. The pork in the bun tasted like it was cooked a while ago and it was a little tough and cold. I didnt really like the miso ramen. I wish I got the original but the waitress said the miso was better. The dessert was a fail. The mille crepe was so small and sad and had no flavor. The green tea ice cream tasted bitter with no sugar. I could have done without it. In terms of drinks, they were pretty good but maybe a little too much sugary syrup. I got a cocktail with sake, brown sugar syrup and lemon and then the other drink was "peach beer", which I think was just beer with peach syrup. The service was a bit slow at times as the waitresses stayed up front and didn't check on the few tables enough. I may give this place a shot especially if offered discount or free food because of subscribing to their promo page.

Yelp
Tasty Food -We came here one evening to try out the ramen. As you can see from the check, the choices of ramen were varied and very good. The restaurant is decorated beautifully with lots of Japanese artwork, and they offer great service.
google avatar

Hari K.

Yelp
I thought the Tan-tan ramen (made vegetarian) was very aromatic and the colour really impressed me. It was marked as a bit spicy and I think that held true. Nothing really put this over the top, it is your very standard ramen spot. Broth holds up + noodle quality is solid, but nothing really stands out here.
google avatar

Jehan J.

Yelp
Solid ramen and good vibes inside. I appreciate that some of the ramencould be turned vegetarian and tat they didn't only have the basic veggie ramen that most places had. They give you the option of what type of noodles you like too.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
Why is it that we didn't try Hide-Chan until after we moved out of the neighborhood? What were we thinking??? I love the place! Great ambiance, with fun plastic masks filling the wall, and a cozy bar. The service was very attentive, with staff really interested in giving a great experience. One of my favorite features of the ramen here is they give choice of noodle for all bowls. You can choose straight or wavy, and what level of doneness for the ramen. We both had wavy, extra firm. Highly recommended! My wife had Tan Tan, with rich bonito broth, sesame, and plenty of ground pork. She asked for light spiciness, and the kitchen nailed it. I had the Special Ramen, and it was too much. In a good way. The broth was creamy, smooth and rich. The soup came with 3 pieces of pork (instead of 2), a whole egg (instead of 1/2) plenty of mushrooms and corn, and... and .... and... all topped with a spoonful of roe that added a great brininess to the mix. The only problem? It was TOO MUCH FOOD!!! Of course, considering all of life's struggles, this is a problem I am well prepared to deal with. I will be back, and see if I can finish the bowl next time.
google avatar

Sumin C.

Yelp
Pretty standard ramen that will fix your ramen cravings but wouldn't walk out of the restaurant feeling "damn that was a gooood ramen". I thought the broth wasn't as flavorful and the chashu was a little tough to bite. The ramen egg was also not as runny/ yolky as it should be. But the noodle was chewy and I liked their takoyaki appetizer which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the regular deluxe and my friends got spicy delux. Their spicy delux was not that spicy though! The pricing was average but the staffs were very friendly!
google avatar

Masumi T.

Yelp
Food is solid here. Quick service. The spicy garlic ramen was really tasty although it didn't seem that spicy. They ask if you want wavy or straight noodles and I went with the straight noodles. They had a nice chew. I think they used to ask how firm you want your noodles but they didn't ask. The char siu was soft and tender. We also ordered the karaage which was juicy and good with the mayo. They would have been better if they were crispy but I still enjoyed them.
google avatar

Juliana T.

Yelp
My friends and I came here after learning that their HK was closed for outdoor dining, and I'm so glad we made the trek. Food was delicious and service was super friendly and prompt. The outdoor dining space is limited, so there may be a wait; when we went on a Tuesday night in November, the wait for a table for 3 was less than 10 minutes. We started with gyoza (5 pc, $8) and takoyaki (6 pc, $7), both of which were tasty if just a little underwhelming. The takoyaki had more flavor than the gyoza, but even still, it wasn't particularly exciting. The ramen, however, was delicious. I had the classic ramen ($14) with firm, straight noodles. The noodle texture was perfect and the broth was an explosion of flavor. My only complaint is that it did not come with a soft-boiled egg, but because the broth was so tasty, I almost didn't miss it. Oh, and if the portion of noodles is not enough for you, a kaedama (extra noodles) is only $2!!! How can you beat that??
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! This place is tucked away on the 2nd story of the building. We started with the fried chicken, and then I had the Kara Ramen. Both were pretty good. The best part was that it wasn't very crowded, so we had a quiet place to grab lunch.
google avatar

Sage B.

Yelp
The food was pretty good I had the tan tan men ramen and it was nice and spicy and super tasty! There weren't many people in the restaurant so it was super spacious and the decorations where really fun. The service was pretty good! I would recommend trying it out :).

Yelp
A cute little ramen restaurant. I loved all the cute decor. I got the spicy deluxe, and my mom got the tantanmen. My broth was creamy and delicious with the perfect amount of spice. This was a perfect meal on a cold winter day.

Yelp
Came here solo for lunch once. This place is upstairs. Not too big, with bar seating and table seating. I sat at the bar and ordered the spicy garlic ramen. It came really fast. Since I was in a rush, I got out of there finished my ramen within 30min. Decent ramen and you get to choose the type of noodles you prefer. Good lunch spot if you work around the area.

Yelp
Stopped by because I was craving a different dinner and it was on my way home! Service was nice and friendly. The ramen was okay-- nothing special, but I did finish the whole bowl! There's a bar seating area with two TVs that play videos of Japan on repeat. As someone eating alone, I liked watching the videos!

Yelp
I want to give 3.5 stars! Ramen is actually pretty ok. I had so many many fake bad ramens, but this is one actually better than any other fake ones. Feels pretty good overall. Spicy garlic ramen was of course not spicy at all, which is good aspect of thus ramen actually! It would taste little weird if it was too spicy. Black oil part is garlic, so do not expect real minced garlic here! I ordered wavy noodle for this and I think it was good choice. Chashu was ok, egg was ok, everything was ok. Nothing bad here. But About oolong-high? Hmm...couldn't taste the oolong at all, I was only tasting watered whiskey. I hope oolong gets darker and less alcohol for better taste. Some people might disagree with me, cuz I hate smell of alcohol in general. I definitely want to visit again for try different ramen, maybe more basic ones!

Yelp
Had a great lunch here! My group all enjoyed their food, and I particularly enjoyed the spicy pork buns. The ramen also had a great flavor. My friends who got rice bowls loved their meal as well.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Cleanly and hygienic COVID precautions. I felt safe and the food was absolutely amazing. I had the spicy garlic ramen & it was so so so so good. 11/10 would recommend. I would literally also come back just for their spicy cucumbers! Definitely my top 10 ramen spots in the city. & the wait staff + owner was really nice :)

Yelp
Walked in on a Sunday night after being told there was an hour wait at Totto Ramen (located right below) and was seated immediately at the bar for two people. Literally only took 10 minutes from the moment we were seated to order and get our ramen. The quickest service I've ever experienced in midtown - the spicy miso ramen and karaage were good and flavorful, house hot sake was good. No frills restaurant for quick, good service!

Yelp
Good to see open for lunch and pretty much the same post COVID. Gyu don made a nice addition to my Red Dragon ramen today.

Yelp
Two years later after my initial visit to this place, I ended up eating here with my friends as waiting for Totto Ramen (literally right next door) was going to take too long. There was spots open inside which didn't require a wait, so we risked it and decided to sit inside. To start, I got the Takoyaki. Lived up to my expectations. For entree, I ordered the Kara Ramen. I don't recall them having the option to choose between straight or wavy noodles and the texture previously, so this seemed new to me. I got the noodles wavy and medium. This was definitely a better experience than the last time I had ramen here. Still a little heavy on the sodium side, but not as bad as I remembered it to be. Overall, the ramen was okay. Wasn't bad, but nothing to be impressed by it. Definitely there are other ramen shops that are worth considered trying. Unfortunately, this place doesn't make my shortlist.

Yelp
Are you there, God? It's me, Ramen Stan. Leave it to me to go on a ramen tour while in NYC. Hide Chan was one of the lucky few chosen for such an extraordinary honor. This place is cute, small, and luckily for us - did not have a wait! They had a special yuzu menu where if you ordered something from it, you got free mozzarella sticks so you know I got a yuzu sake to try them out. They were wrapped with wonton skin and fried and while strange, definitely delicious. We started off with pork buns, which is weird for me because I never get apps before ramen. But the buns were very soft and tasty - the pork was pretty good but nothing too crazy. Then I ordered the kogashi ramen with a boiled egg. I was kind of bummed that the egg was literally boiled and didn't have a soft yolk, but I might have missed something that indicated that'd what I'd be getting. Anyways, the broth and noodles were both pretty good but nothing I guess I'd write home about. I was so full from the mozz sticks and pork buns that I couldn't finish my ramen - which is very unlike me. All in all, this place was good! I'm sure there is other great ramen spots but this was pretty solid and worth a try!

Yelp
I'm so surprised that this place has so many reviews when the one on the West side is SO MUCH BETTER. The Hells Kitchen location has a wider selection of alcoholic drinks, larger menu, and cheaper happy hour prices. If you look at the menu photo, Rice Dishes are underneath Appetizers, this mistakenly led me to believe that it was a sub-category and that those dishes would be subject to happy hour pricing. I was wrong. The chicken avo don was good and a large portion, however I felt like I was mis-led. At the other location, they serve small bowls of Salmon Avo don for $4 at happy hour. I would honestly recommend those who love this establishment to go check out the West side location. It's so much better in my opinion.
