Yelp
TLDR: Classic, no-frills Vietnamese comfort food that tastes like home cooking. Not flashy, not pretentious, but satisfies if you want the dishes you grew up with -- especially the ones you don't see elsewhere.
This is comfort Vietnamese food at its most basic, and it delivers exactly what it promises. Remember those meals your mom made when you were in middle school? The kind of dishes that feel familiar but aren't offered at many trendy Vietnamese spots? That's what you're getting here. Small, unassuming, barely skirting the health code, and deliciously authentic.
Like most Vietnamese restaurants, the menu is massive -- easily 60+ dishes. You can order à la carte, but they also offer family-style dinner pairings that make things easier. For two people, the family dinner comes out to about $37.50, which includes one soup, one savory entrée, and one stir-fried dish (usually a vegetable), plus rice. The four-person family dinner is $72.50, which includes one soup, two savory entrées, and two stir-fried dishes. It's a straightforward, affordable way to eat well.
Food:
* Cá Kho Tộ ($12) - 3.5/5: Braised catfish that's sweet, savory, and very much classic comfort food. The fish is cooked well, the marinade isn't overly sweet, and the meat stays tender. Yes, you'll deal with some bones, but that's part of the deal with this dish. Decent and enjoyable, but not a standout. Feels like home cooking.
* Cá Lù Đù Ướp Sả ($13.50) - 5/5: This is the standout. The fish here is a species local to Vietnam, fried crispy and topped with a generous amount of dried or fried lemongrass. Easy to share, especially with fluffy jasmine rice and a dip in fish sauce. The textures and flavors work beautifully. As a Vietnamese American, I'd never had this dish before coming here, and it's something I return for on its own.
* Đậu Hũ Nhồi Thịt ($12) - 4.5/5: Deep-fried tofu stuffed with ground pork and spices, giving it a golden exterior and soft interior. This is true Vietnamese comfort food when combined with rice and fish sauce. It feels like being called to the dinner table after your parents tell you to put your toys away. Nostalgic and satisfying.
* Canh Chua Cá Hoặc Tôm ($12) - 4/5: Sweet-and-sour soup with fish and shrimp. It's comforting rather and it works best as part of the full meal. Not huge, but great for sharing between two or three people. Complements the heavier dishes.
Service and Stuff:
This place isn't winning awards for ambiance or polish, and it's certainly not pretending to. It's a family-style dinner spot that feels casual and a bit rough around the edges. That's part of the charm. You come here for the food, not the vibes.
Would I Return Rating?
Yes. Regularly. The food is good, affordable, unpretentious, and consistently satisfying. I've eaten here with my whole family and just with my partner, and it always works. If you're looking for comforting Vietnamese dishes that taste like home rather than something trendy or elevated, this place absolutely delivers.
