I love family run businesses, and this is one of them! The fried chicken is outrageously delicious and so is the perch, fried shrimp and coleslaw. I wanted to give it five stars, but there are 2 small problems. I wish they had better fries. The fries are standard crinkle cut frozen fries. They are fine, but don’t match the “specialness” of the chicken, perch and shrimp. I’d also say the restaurant interior could use a freshening up. But neither of these things will stop me from going back!

I love this food here! It's always fresh and cooked to order. Thee best feature of Hienies is that the prices of this tasty food is more than reasonable and can and will accommodate any money preference

I found my new place for pizza, very tasty. The chicken is just as good. Gonna try their shrimp next time. These places are diamonds in the rough just gotta know where to go, know what I mean.

Haven't been here in a while. Ordered 3/4 pound of shrimp with mild sauce. Also two fried chicken breasts. Everything was very good. I called ahead and my order was ready when I got there. I will be back again soon for sure.

Hienies is the only place I have been that even when the shrimp are cold they don't get soggy! They have daily specials that are very reasonable and the food is always fresh. Try the chicken wings! Yum! Take out only.

Best shrimp and chicken on the mid-west for sure. Hot sauce on the shrimp, chicken, fish and fried are a must. Been a customer for 55 years and love the food! 2 places on Mackinaw, Comercial Ave. Torrence Ave, Sibley Blvd and 143 St.

Wonderful Chicken and meals with specials attached. They have been in the neighborhood for a very long time. The owner retired and left it for his children.

Been there a couple of years ago the chicken now is to crusty and it seems the crust is overcooked went for the orange sauce and wasn't in bag but asked for it

A true Chicago staple, great food. Great customer service. 1 pound chicken tenders are my favorite. Not like other chicken tenders, these are lightly breaded. lots of meat. Very delicious.

Shrimps are not heavy battered. Just wish they offered turkey spaghetti instead of beef. Need more side choices if you want a shrimp dinner.

I've been from Hienie's since I was a kid, and when they had a second location on Commercial Ave. Of course, restaurants do change over time. They have their good days and not so good days. Chicken and shrimp is ok, and the pizza is pretty good too. Their hot sauce is well known and is usually best on EVERYTHING! (I usually buy it from Pete's). Would recommend but the customer service could use work too.

Chicago's Famous on the Southeast side joint!! Chicken,Pizza,Shrimp and their Hienes Hot Sauce!! Crinkly fries and late night rendezvous.....lotsa memories here..... This is a divey spot on the corner of 103rd and Torrence on the East side of town....very much of must go joint but watch yourself in this neighborhood after hours or during hours!! I'm a Chicagoan and this joint is the absolute "Bomb"!! Yeah Baby!!

With them it's a crap shoot. Sometimes good, sometimes not. Turn over in staff it seems. Not the nicest people. Prices have gone up a lot after Covid hit. I only go if I'm desperate for chicken.

I was not happy with my order and will never stop again. I gave them 1 star for the price and 1 for being hot. I had a seafood combo shrimp and catfish although the fish was more like a fish stick.

The food is pretty good. Not as good as it was some years ago. They messed up my order, so I called and explained to them what happened. They resolved my issue and gave me add'l food for my troubles.

That Hienies sauce is where it's at definitely felt so good to come back in so many years and yes it be a big line waiting to order and pickup especially during the weekday afternoon but definitely worth it

Chicken was sort of bad. Very dark and hard, it's not normally like this (from what I hear). Sauce, roll and fries were good, but forget about suppressing my desire to eat a half order of scrumptious fried chicken middle of the day. Most of the meal was discarded, so much for making a good impression. Btw, nice wall art.

I won't write about what went right with this visit... it would make for a rather short review.... I ordered a whole chicken dinner(old style), with coleslaw... upon arrival, I paid for the food and stood to the side and waited for my order. The employee that took my payment, became preoccupied with some local bum and disappeared to the back of the establishment... the remaining two employees, I won't say much about because they were clearly working(cooking, answering phones, etc). I waited for 10 minutes... the employee that was in the back finally returned, and to my surprise, my food was ready all along... sitting under the counter... once I made it home... well, the picture shows it all... my order, complete as it may be considered, is an atrocity... I don't understand how anyone can even package that confidently, and consider it their best effort... those were not fries, by any representation of the word... Heinies, let's work on not giving out leftover fry bits... thanks guys...

They were good back in the day. Just NOT TODAY. Whether it's the "new" staff who really don't care. Or the cooks. At one time this place was really good not anymore. From the kitchen, to the counter, to delivery, they have all gone down hill. I'm sorry but I'll take my hard earned money elsewhere. Don't know what happened but the quality is gone!!

I ordered two 10 chicken wings with a pint of heinie sauce and a pound of shrimp. Got home to find out that I had a pan of 20 wings and a order of fries. I called Heinies back and told them that they messed up my order. And they had to check twice to make sure that it was OK for me to bring the food back and get the correct order. When I got to Hienie's the white man behind the counter counted every last chicken wing that was in the bag before throwing it away and then checks the bag for the fries and says it so it wasn't any shrimp in here. They messed up my order and then accuse me of being a thief. I will NEVER go back here. Plus the place was nasty it was full of trash on the floor that the young lady was sweeping up and every time the man opened up the fridge he took his hand and ran it down the side of the fridge.

Fire chicken wings , breading is delicious ,meat comes right off the bone. Ice cold POP! ,pepsi,sunkist,dr.pepper ,root beer. Pizza slices are on point most of the time. $21.00 feeds my family of 3. The breast seems to be too spongie and shreds in long pieces "not a fan". The homemade coleslaw is creamy and also very good. The customer service is 99% of the time good & the bright orange hot sauce is Amazing.

Been coming here since 1982. I was a little kid then. Your average hole in the wall fast food heart attack spot. Little better than average food. Average people and service. Best to call ahead to order. I wish the fish portions were bigger but otherwise they're ok and I look forward to eating there

I had two things to my order, one was a slice of pizza that was terrible and it was cold. The other was chicken wings and they weren't well seasoned soaked meaning they were bloody and meaning they were not cooked well. Definitely not a place I will ever eat at again.

Unfortunately Hienie's is just not a restaurant that I'd recommend. There's nothing special about it & unless desperate I doubt I'd return. The most appealing aspect of the place has to be the extremely low prices in comparison to downtown prices. The sauce is somewhat interesting but it's sweet above all else. Unbeknownst to me you can opt for a special seasoning such as lemon pepper however it's applied after the frying thus leaving little to no flavor. There's a special for every day of the week & nice little novelties such as pizza puffs. I can't speak to the seafood but I can say the chicken was prepared well but far from the best & intriguing. Venture a little further north & be willing to spend a ton MORE $ to be wowed. In closing everything except for my pizza puff was made to order

After passing this place a million times and never stopping in, we discovered that they deliver (at least to businesses for lunch) so we took full advantage of that offer! We all ordered the 6 pc wings with fries ($5.50 ea). The chicken is ok, crispy and lightly breaded full size wings. But the reason to come here is the sauce. Their hot sauce is fantastic. It's a very unnatural orange and it is spicy with a hint of mustard flavor. It's pretty hot, but not so hot that you need any ranch or anything to recover. Even their BBQ sauce was better than average, spicy and sweet. We will definitely be in trouble now that we know they are only a phone call away, and for six bucks you can't beat it

Tried this place last week with my friend Charlie who is also on yelp. He was recommended the place from a friend so we drove a little out of our way to check it out. When you walk in and sit down you see several different newspaper clippings and honorable mentions about the place but I just didn't see it being that spectacular. We both ordered chicken wings and shrimp. I ordered the orange hot sauce on the side of mine while Charlie ordered the mild. The sauce had a great flavor when dipping the shrimp and wings in it but overall the food was nothing to brag too much about. I do have to hand it to them. The prices were great, unbeatable. The food was pretty average though.

No brainer best chicken and hot sauce Shrimp is expensive but it's a can live with out for my anyways.

I had high hopes for this place but left very disappointed. We received our order almost immediately which tells me there's no way the chicken was fresh. It also didn't taste fresh. It tasted very old. And their sauce didn't help the chicken at all. I asked for hot and mild sauce and it tasted disgusting. Their mild sauce has to much ketchup. Not impressed. They do get 2 stars because ironically their customer service was greater compared to their competitors that make amazing chicken. And be to be honest when it comes to fried chicken, I'd prefer the delicious chicken over good customer service any day. Won't be returning.

Constantly have been given French fry crumbs, and order has been incorrect at least the last 3 times I ordered.

This place is the comeback story of the decade. They had managers in there who let it go. Then the family came back with the young guy and more and took control. Started making the chicken to order and really bounced back! I hope they keep it up you guys are doing a great job and I am a happy customer once again!

Chicago is a big city! Today we were in...far south side of the Chi-town, but it's in a freak' remote part of Chicago that I rarely touch her footprint. In the middle of nowhere, we saw an "angry bird" graffiti. Yes, it's the logo for Hienie's Shrimp House. Honestly, whatever we saw really resembled the famous angry bird (lol). The entire location is very hole-in-the-wall, with a doubled-caged entrance. Nevertheless, we were hungry, so as much "hood" we were witnessing it wouldn't stop us. Hubby kindly inquired the young man behind the counter if a credit card would be accepted. The answer was positive. Thank you, Lord, because there was no other decent place nearby in the South Deering neighborhood, and I would like to continue my life... We both ordered the Perch dinner ($5.50, Monday's special). The food came out very fast, within five (5) minutes. We soon "fled" the area and were well on our way home (I exaggerated...it is an industrial "hood". Hey, this is Chicago...don't let Al Capone ridicule me, please), The combo came with about half-pound worth of fried perch, fries, one (1) dinner roll, and coleslaw. The fried perch was delicious. They utilized the "blue-collar" breading, meaning that nothing was special about the breading but the taste was down-to-earth yummy. Ladies and gentlemen, I just made that term up. Thank you very much. The hot sauce was very, very spot on! They offered an abundant amount of food for $5.50. I know the Big Mac combo in a McDonald's will cost more. The only minor complaint was the dinner had an awfully large amount of fries and I was mighty thirsty afterward. Well, that was ok though. I'm a big kid, and I could bear with that tiny discomfort. Other than the shadiness I mentioned in the first couple of paragraphs in my review, there was nothing wrong with the joint. If you're coming from the Indiana and experiencing some sort of hunger on the way back to the city, stop here if you dare.

Can you say yummy ? And finger licking good ? Well that's what will happen when you try out this old school chicken and shrimp hut. I'm not sure how the chicken had stayed so good and crispy for so many years that is what this place is famous for. And the hot sauce its just one of a kind you will not find it anywhere. But you can buy it from them. And like others have said the fries are good. As for me I have to order a bag on the side. Lol My son loves the chicken and shrimp from this place so much he can eat it in the morning at 10am when they open. This place has a variety of food items on the menu and the prices are right in the budget. Chicken Shrimp Fish Pizza And all kinds of sides Check them out but be a little patient the food is cooked to order. And this place can get really packed at times. But the line moves fast they like to get you in and out. Happy chicken

When I was a kid I used to goto the Hienies on 83rd before it was torn down. Back then it was amazing, but now it's much different. The food is pretty greasy, its either over seasoned or under seasoned. if you're lucky you experience both in the same bag. The price are pretty up there while the quality of the food isn't. I tried it for nostalgia a d gave it a few tries. But I won't be returning.

This was my first time here and it was highly recommended. It was just okay for me . The seasoning or lack there of was meh . The way they battered my fish and shrimp was not pleasing either . Nope I don't plan on returning.
