The Best Cocktail Bars in Palm Springs, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Located inside the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel, head to the seventh floor to find Palm Springs’ only rooftop bar. The pool-adjacent views are spectacular, especially at sunset, when a 4 Saints pre-dinner drink tastes the best, or as a stop at the end of a long day. The venue schedules live acoustic music on weekends ." - Mona Holmes

The 25 Best Restaurants & Bars In Palm Springs

"If we had only one finger, we’d still be able to count the number of rooftop bars in Palm Springs—High Bar, that’s it. Located on top of the Kimpton Rowan (take the elevator up to the roof and walk past the restaurant to the pool area), this outdoor bar is the perfect spot to sneak away for a few sunset cocktails before your dinner reservation. The margaritas are stiff, the views of the San Jacinto Mountains are endless, and despite being the only one of its kind in town, there’s rarely ever a crowd." - brant cox

Staff were very friendly and helpful. asked for Tajin on the rim and it paired with the paradiso (highly recommend!). The shrimp tacos had super nicely grilled shrimp. Rowan Rita was solid too but liked the paradiso more. Seating is first come first serve. You can access the bar either through the main hotel lobby and taking the elevator or there’s a side elevator in the alleyway with signs.

Google
This is a cozy neighborhood bar with a welcoming vibe. I’ve been here a few times now, and it never disappoints. The bartenders remember what you like and always have a new recommendation. The happy hour deals are great, and the small plates menu has some surprisingly delicious options. It’s a great place to wind down after a busy day or meet up with friends for casual drinks.

Google
Great spot to grab a drink or hang out by the pool, beautiful views. Service was friendly, limited menu but good bar food

Google
The absolute best ahi wonton nachos I have ever had! My friends enjoyed the shrimp tacos that apparently have a bit of a spicy kick. Our cocktails were also great. The service was stellar & so was the view & atmosphere. I would love to come back to Palm Springs and stay here! Great location & beautiful fresh new modern vibe.

Google
We had an amazing evening of drinks and spectacular views from this rooftop bar in downtown Palm Springs. We were here at about an hour before the sun went behind the west mountains, and in spite of it being almost 100 degrees, we were quite comfortable and had plenty of shade. The service was prompt and friendly, and the drinks were top notch. Be sure to visit this “highest bar” in Palm Springs when you are exploring the downtown area.

Google
Excellent bar at one of the highest points in Palm Springs. Great drinks and snacks at a good price. Staff is super friendly. Only issue is that the pool allows kids (which you can definitely hear), but otherwise perfect.

Tammy Owins

Google
Sat at the bar for wine, chairs in shade and later in a cabana. Beautiful view of the mountains and PS. Attentive service, popular roof top bar of the Rowan Hotel.

Kristen Richards

Google
Came up to the view, the area designated for the bar doesn’t have the greatest view while you’re grabbing a drink (faces the art museum) . They did let me pop over to look out where the hotel guest have a view and it was beautiful.

Yelp
3.5 stars is right on for this place. Nice view, friendly staff but it took forever for someone to take our order and another millennium to get our food and drinks. It looked like there was just one bartender, one waitress and a manager. For $20 a drink, they should have more staff. Food was good, drinks were great!

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Crazy prices. Who gets their kid a $30 grilled cheese with a soda? They are super vigilant you don't bring in any outside food and it's not surprising given the prices. You are not permitted to even bring food from elsewhere in the hotel. They have security scouring the pool area to make sure you don't have any contraband: nuts, chips. Oh, and there is a kitchen service fee on the bill. As if, at their prices, they cannot afford to properly pay kitchen staff...

Yelp
I remembered to look up and said,"Let's go the high bar" and enjoyed the sunset view while sipping a scarlet blossom concocted with vodka, ancho Reyes chile liquer, lime juice and hibiscus syrup. It is a winner and pretty, too. Located on the 7th floor, the outdoor bar overlooks the PS mountains and looks toward the pass, opposite the rooftop pool. The menu includes snacks and desserts, wine, and 12 dollar beers on tap, plus some inventive cocktails. Open from 10 am to 10:30 pm, there is a happy hour from 8:30 pm to 10:30. I need to remember to look up more often. It's definitely a nice vibe, a great view, with friendly service.

Yelp
High Bar sits on the top of Kimpton Rowen Palm Springs Hotel. Wonderful views of the mountains and valley. Access (by non-guests) is by an elevator off the walkway near Il Corso. The rooftop bar is on the side of the hotel pool. Staff are friendly, professional, and attentive. The seating is varied, the high tops give the best views, but after dark, the couches have firepit warmth! The food menu is spare but adequate. A late night Happy Hour (0830p-1030p Tu-Thur) is of interest for late night revelers!

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening around 725 to hopefully catch the sunset. Entered the hotel and ventured to the elevators to ride up to the rooftop. I went up, and a beautiful restaurant was on the way yo the rooftop. Since it was the end of July, it was hot out. There was plenty of seating, so I took a high top and sat. I ordered a lemon drop martini. The service was fast and courteous. My drink was really good.

Yelp
Take the elevator to the top and relax by the pool with a handmade cocktail. You feel like you're sitting in the mountains. Super cool views and vibes! Music is thumping and overtly loud by the bar, so we moved to the pool.

Yelp
High Bar in Palm Springs truly deserves a five-star rating. The views are absolutely stunning, you just have to see it to understand. While the food and drinks are a bit pricey, the quality make it worthwhile. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing and serene, and the great service coupled with the relaxing vibes adds to it.

Yelp
It's been a year and I still disagree with the negative reviews of High Bar. I finally tried their food menu, so I'm dropping an updated review here! This spot has the best view in Palm Springs. High Bar is a rooftop bar at the Kimpton Rowan in downtown. This is the highest building in the city, so you get undisturbed views of the strip and the desert. Our crew recently stopped by for a round of cocktails and some appetizers. We grabbed their watermelon salad, the Market Meza Plate with baba gonnush and hummus platter. The dishes were made with the freshest and brightest ingredients. Everything tasted wonderful and was presented so beautifully.

Yelp
As a local, there is no doubt, a very nice view from up top, but $12 for a domestic beer? Egregious, esp when you can get the same drink up and down the block for $6 or $8. ...... for something that costs them $1. What happened to happy hour?

Eduardo Ramos ..

Yelp
Best drinks in Palm Springs. Great view as well Best bartenders in town Definitely recommend

Yelp
My bestie and I always visit Palm Springs for our annual girls getaway and we visited High Bar for the first time this past Saturday! We absolutely loved this place! Loved it so much we have officially added it to our "a must visit" spot for us! The things that immediately stood out for us was the manager RAMON! He is exceptional at hospitality!!! We hadn't sat down for but 10 seconds before he greeted us with a smile and asked how our day was and if there is anything we need to let him know. Second thing that stood out was the drinks and food! I need to get their Cosmo martini recipe because it was stellar! The fries I wanted more of because they were that good. The ambiance was poppin! Clean, fun, beautiful views. Just wow! Music was on brand with the look and feel of the place. We ended up going back to have dinner at Saints and Ramon also was there and helped me find the backing of my earring which I thought was lost forever. We were on my way out and he came chasing me down to hand me the backing of my earring. He found it and went out of his way to give it to me. We will be recommending this place and to be sure to tell everyone to say hi to Ramon.

Yelp
The reason I'm giving four stars instead of three is because the view is beautiful. I wish they had a good vegan option on the menu. That was a little disappointing. To be honest even though the drinks looked good cause I was in a big group with lots of people ordering them nothing on the menu particularly interested me. This is a great spot to come in a small or large group they have lots of patio furniture that's comfortable to sit on and chat and socialize with your friends. The bar is also connected to the pool and if you're a hotel guest you can go on the pool. Please add some vegan options to your menu that are a little more substantial.

Yelp
Located on the rooftop of the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel, High Bar is a great place to enjoy a sunny afternoon! While staying at the hotel, my wife and I came here to relax after a day of hiking. The Saturday atmosphere was lively but not overly crowded, with upbeat music playing and friendly servers pouring endless pitchers of ice water which we greatly appreciated. We hung out in lounge chairs while drinking Tom Collins Cocktails (a summertime classic if you've never tried one) and took frequent dips in the pool to cool off. Overall, it was a lot of fun and we'll definitely consider returning! Tip: The bar is open to the public even if you're not a hotel guest.

Yelp
Great place to enjoy a drink (or two) after dinner. The place is chill with upbeat music playing in the background. Service was pleasant. No problems. Everyone is friendly, even other tables. Great place for a small celebration or night cap.

Yelp
We visited High Bar for some afternoon drinks and lite bites. Between the delicious drinks, hummus, and views we weren't disappointed. High Bar is on the top floor of The Kimpton Rowan. You don't need a reservation and can walk right in. The bar is seated behind the pool area and pool seating. Our waitress was very sweet and checked on us often. This is a great afternoon spot so you can observe and take in the gorgeous views, but wouldn't be bad in the at sunset or evening either. There was a lite breeze and plenty of sun so we were happy, but likely on very windy days I wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't be ideal for a large party, *comfortable* wheelchair access, or any group that doesn't mind to be pretty close to one another, however.

Yelp
I liked the live music here. The service and the drinks were really good. Would definitely come by again.

Yelp
As a local I have nothing but amazing things to say about the High Bar staff, I started my day around 3pm and was taken care by an amazing bartender Alex, and he recommended this really refreshing cocktail "desert breeze" created by another bartender "Daniel". But I believe thee best time I had in Palm Springs has been visiting the High Bar and being taken care by Alberto and Eric! They had thee best recommendations for drinks and took amazing care of us!!!!! I will forever be coming to the High bar to visit Alberto and Eric! I'm also in the service industry and I'll definitely be sending my guest to this spot! These guys deserve a raise! Ramon And Abel are amazing in the management team they took really good care of us as well!
google avatar

Brittney B.

Yelp
Such a fun spot! Julian, our bartender, was awesome and made great drinks. We ordered our faves and luckily he was able to make them. I hear the menu is vast with different drink options, we didn't even peak at it, but lots of choices.

Lynn K.

Yelp
My husband, sister -in-law and I went here after dinner on a Sunday night. It was pretty quiet at 7:40 but began picking up. They have plum cinnamon syrup which was a first. My sister-in-law thought the music was too loud but I enjoyed it. The fire pit was pretty. I appreciated the propane heat lamps. This bar is on the top floor of the Kimpton Rowan hotel where we were staying. There are some nice views of downtown Palm Springs. We could have ordered food but didn't.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in Palm Springs. Pretty tasty and well priced drinks. Our server was very nice and efficient. Finally, the vibes & view were unmatched!
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Such a fun spot!! Great people watching and terrific service! Ask for Vanessa or Viviana, both are staples to the Rowan!!
google avatar

Nicole T.

Yelp
Located on top of the roof of a hotel, high bar can be a little difficult to find. You enter through a smaller door and take the elevator to the roof There's a large pool and cabana seating for hotel guests only. However, non guests can still come for food and drinks We had 8 people in our party and it felt like drinks took forever to come out. I also ordered tequila shots for the table and unfortunately the tequila was super warm. They also don't bring salt unless you request it, which was kind of weird. I get that it's over 100 degrees in Palm Springs but I think that chilling it should have been a standard to give a better experience. The cocktails were great and beautifully prepared
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
Super cute spot located at The Rowan. High Bar is their rooftop spot where you can have drinks and bites even if you're not staying at the hotel. Make sure to take a look of the views because they're some of the best in town. They do have a separate elevator entrance on the side of the building just FYI! Really enjoyed their beer offerings and the team here is pretty friendly. Make sure to grab some Parmesan truffle fries!
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
Sat outside by the fireplace and had cocktails before heading to the airport. Nice views and service. Cocktails were unique and tasty
google avatar

Yelp
Love this rooftop bar, great cocktails with great views. It will get pretty busy on weekends with not enough servers to go around but be patient, all the staff here are very friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Drinks and atmosphere was a vibe. Make sure to ask for Erick! Great server with great recommendations. Definitely knows his stuff!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday to celebrate a birthday...there was no more than 15 people in the entire place and so we decided to make ourselves cozy under the misters and fan cabana area...the manager came over and basically kicked us out of the area. Apparently cabanas are for hotel guests who pay for them....I could understand if this was a busy Saturday night and we were drunk and belligerent but we each had just began sipping our over priced cocktails in an empty bar and he thought it was just so urgent to kick us out of the area. I won't be returning. The impression he left pretty much killed any chance of me ever wanting to be a hotel guest.
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
I'm sure some would find the appeal of the pool + drink + food combo - but we stopped after hearing great things about their drinks on the rooftop. My group of 7 was sorely disappointed. All the cocktails were SO SWEET! Like.... they even messed up making an old-fashioned cocktail by making it too sweet. I won't be back here unless I'm staying at the hotel and I want to order a drink out of convenience while at the pool. They are located on top of the roof of a hotel. You'll enter through a smaller door and take the elevator to the roof. It does feel like a hotel. The service was mediocre.

Yelp
2 of us arrived on a Saturday around 4:30 and took the elevator from the lobby of the Rowan Hotel to the rooftop bar. Many seating areas, mostly full at this point, however, we were able to snag a table just past the pool area with a view of the museum trail part of the mountain. FOOD: We only got the chips, salsa and guacamole, but the chips were fresh, the guacamole was fresh and the salsa had wonderful flavor and a chunky texture (which we like). BAR: The wine is a bit pricey (as is typical for a pool side type menu) at $14 a glass, served in the non breakable glassware with no stem, average pour. Limited options. The beer is a good value, $8. There was also a cocktail menu made available. SERVICE: When we first arrived, we were greeted by a friendly employee who explained the various dining/drinking locations - 4 to choose from! We chose the rooftop. Alvaro arrived shortly after we sat down to take our order. After a few minutes he came back with a question and then the drinks within 5 minutes after that. He appeared to be the only one attending to the entire section we were in, which included several high top tables along the wall, many tables for 4, lounge type seats and also a section which surrounds the fire pit. He was hustling for sure, took a bit longer to get the check but we could see him hopping from table to table, clearing off the vacated spots in addition to assisting customers with their orders. They really need one more person to help with this section. ATMOSPHERE: Can't beat the scenery! Beautiful views of the mountains no matter where you choose to sit. There are larger seating areas to accommodate 6-8 and smaller ones for just 2. 2 different bars to choose from once you get to the roof area.

Bethany B.

Yelp
So it's my friend's 35th birthday we came to high bar to celebrate. We're very relaxed and chill people! I'm wearing a romper! We spent about $100 dollars on drinks. It's about 112 outside so we came to sit under the cabanas with the fan and misters. There are probably two other people in the entire pool area.. a manager came and told us at the cabana or for RENT and asked us if we could please leave. We asked him if we could finish our $25 cocktails and if you could give us about 20 minutes. On a Sunday they should let it go.
google avatar

Jacqueline Y.

Yelp
Fun bar to visit in the late afternoon after the sun begins its final descent behind the mountain. Cool view of the PS Museum art pieces (including Marilyn). Drinks were good, service is friendly, lots of seating options. Note- it is a pool bar so some of the cushions might be a bit wet. Check before sitting! Looking forward to our next visit to Palm Springs!!

Yelp
No, just no. It was so bad that I couldn't decide if it was even worth writing a review. I don't want to bash anyplace but, in a way, High Bar bashed me first because it's just so awful. First, the bartender was very friendly and I have no complaint about her, personally. My biggest complaint is how filthy the bar is. If you sit at the bar the tile covering the front has never been cleaned. Covered with spills and dirt. The bar too was never wiped off - we ate where the people before us had eaten and no one cleaned the bar in between. Second, the food. OMG. Ordered the burger. Fryer is broken so no fries. Stupid. Ok, burger arrives - topped with 2 slices of white cheddar that weren't melted. One sad, wilted piece of warm lettuce. And then the best (or worst) part, literally the very top slice of a tomato with the stem still attached. Served on a frozen sesame seed bun, not brioche as the menu stated. Gross, dirty and a total rip off. Tourist trap that is definitely not worth going back.

Bane K.

Yelp
Marco, Alberto, Ramon and Vanessa were top-tier. Excellent service, attention to detail, friendly, entertaining, and the pool wasn't as hot as I thought. awesome little bar on the rooftop. :)
google avatar

Estella S.

Yelp
Smallest most crowded pool ever. Drinks take for ever.1 star because the view & because you can't put 0 stars lol.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Fun place, great atmosphere! We enjoyed a visit early evening and watched the sunset. Really beautiful views! The sunset and mountain views were terrific. Cocktails were pretty typical - we didn't try the food. Servers and bartenders were pretty busy, plan to have to seek someone out at the bar when you need anything and it may be a wait. I'd like to come back and try the pool as it's a great view and nice ambiance.
google avatar

Valerie A.

Yelp
While the views are gorgeous, I was very disappointed the last time I visited for the service, or lack thereof. I brought friends specifically here, hoping to catch the sunset on the rooftop bar with a cocktail. Immediately when we came in, the security guard said we were not allowed to sit at the empty tables, even though there wasn't a single one occupied and they were all sitting empty. They said we could still get drinks at the bar, but then when we tried to sit around a planter, they also said we couldn't do that. So basically they were ok with us buying $20 cocktails but not having a place to drink them. I tried talking to Ramon who was managing that night and he basically told us it was all reserved for hotel guests. So then why did you let us in and let us buy $20 cocktails? How convenient. If you want your bar to be only hotel guests then maybe say that before we come in and you take our money? Just a thought.

Yelp
I stayed at the Rowan this week, so heading to the rooftop bar and pool area was inevitable. The staff was amazingly friendly, which was lovely. They have plenty of loungers of various chair and couch configurations, plus large umbrellas over most of them- a must in the desert sun. The clientele on a Wednesday at noon was exactly as I'd expected- lots of beautiful, scantily clad people doing their best to develop skin cancer. But my cocktail was cold and delicious, the music just the right volume, and the pool towels nicer than the ones in the hotel rooms. Thumbs up.

Rich P.

Yelp
Awesome amosphere, a pretty decent bar by the pool. Staff is very nice and friendly. Didn't get any food, the desert breeze was very good, and so is the champagne.
google avatar

Ross S.

Yelp
A fun rooftop to come checkout with great views of Palm Springs. A few notes that you need to be hotel guests to use the pool, so especially in Palm Springs think about the day that you would be going to avoid the heat. However there are some fun drinks, you are able to overlook the museum, as well as the skyline, and get a great sunset!

Violet V.

Yelp
LOVE THIS BAR!!!! Ask for Viviana!!! (and Sebastian, but first Viviana!) A++++ Love
google avatar

Bernardo V.

Yelp
What a great experience with Marco !! Amazing drinks and the most important thing is he takes care of his clients.

Sallie A.

Yelp
Enjoyed some wine at the top. Great spot to have a drink and chill. Lots of art work around here.
google avatar

Yelp
my boyfriend and I decided to try out a new bar in PS today which is how we stumbled across this place it was very cute & clean. Our bartender Marco was very nice & attentive checking up on my boyfriend and I frequently and making sure we were okay at all times. Not to mention, the drinks he made were on point! turns out he was fairly new to the bar as well! I definitely will be visiting again. Thank you again Marco for the great service & good luck!
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Beautiful bar with beautiful views. Nathan, one of the bartenders, is fantastic. It's well worth the the trip.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
Can't rave enough about the Kimpton and it's fabulous rooftop - which is its claim to fame as the only rooftop in PS. Amazingly friendly servers though they are very overworked. Great drinks and array of bar food (hummus plate, fruit, nachos) all priced on par for a hotel.

Stasia R.

Yelp
Stayed at the Rowan the past weekend! Amazing rooms, amazing views! Overall a five star hotel, definitely recommend if you're in the Palm Springs area, walking distance to Starbucks &' local shops! Visited the Rooftop Pool throughout my stay &' I just want to thank Vanessa for her great service, she was checking on us constantly providing us with everything that was needed! Such a great stay! :)
google avatar

Evelynn M.

Yelp
My friend and I came in today and had the best time! Marco had the best sense of humor and knew exactly what he was doing. It was pretty busy but he managed to make sure we were well taken care of.
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
A poolside bar on the rooftop of the Kimpton serving some clever cocktails and craft beers. We popped up for a drink at sunset and enjoyed the laid back vibe. Once the sun goes behind the mountains it cools off fast so you may want to snag a spot by one of the fire tables or under a heat lamp. While there was only one server, she did a nice job getting around to everyone and our drinks came out quickly. They've got some interesting specialty cocktails with fanciful names that were quite good each served in a specialty glass.

MoJo R.

Yelp
Alberto is amazing. Great drinks. Love the atmosphere and views. Come here and meet cool people
