"This Asheville cafe opened its second location in DFW, up in Las Colinas. It was my first time there and the first chance to try its signature dish, the hot chicken served on mac and cheese waffles with a generous helping of the housemade ranch. I also enjoyed the spicy cauliflower bites, with a kick that comes in at just the right time, and the fried green tomatoes served on a bed of grits." - Courtney E. Smith

Amazing! We are so fortunate to have so many incredible coffee shop options in AVL! High Five is a solid and consistently reliable choice for your daily beverage!

Google
Hi-5 stars. One of the best lox bagels I’ve ever had. The onions and capers were mixed into the cream cheese. Smart & less mess. If you don’t like them, be sure to ask for cream cheese sans. The coffee was so delicious. The photo does no justice to the artistry, because I tilted it somewhat in transit to the table. 😅 Parking in the back, although somewhat limited!

Google
The vibe is modern chill and the pastries, from West End Bakery, are flawless. I always drink my brew strong and black but I ordered the Cesspool of Cinnamon, because how could you possibly not, and bam - top 5 coffee creations of all time.

Google
My family and I have been coming to High Five for years now - basically any chance we get. Sometimes for a quick morning coffee, sometimes for a few hours of work at the computer, sometimes just to hang out, read, journal or meet up with friends. Not only is the coffee superb, but the staff is always friendly, courteous and chill. It's place we locals can still count on, despite all the changes and challenges to Asheville in recent years. Bravo to Jay, the owner, for running such a great business and doing his part to keep Asheville strong!

Google
From ATL been coming to AVL for years - fav coffee shop! Great coffee and merch!

Google
I got a latte, it was delicious! Service was great! I'll definitely be back. I did not try any of the food. But I bet it's good.

Google
Coffee was real good. Quick service. Stopped by as we were passing through and pleasantly surprised. Seems to be a local hang out. They had nice seats and tables to relax and read or study. We always like to support small mom and pop coffee shops. The espresso was high quality and smooth. If you are in the neighborhood and need a pick up you must stop in. Also, my daughter loved there hot chocolate. Thank you and we hope to be able to visit and give you a high five again.

Google
This is definitely the best coffee shop in Asheville!! The coffee is phenomenal, I especially love the Weather Report specialty coffee (i think thats the name.) BUT: they tend to make it too sweet so get it with no sweetener and then add it in yourself. Also the parking/seating situation is TERRIBLE!! I wish they would do something about that!

Catherine W.

Yelp
Cute place, friendly waitstaff, looks like a hot spot. Disappointed that I had finished my bagel long before my tea ever came out.

Madison T.

Yelp
Such a precious spot to grab some Joe, meet up with friend, work on the computer, and enjoy some normalcy again. My iced vanilla matcha was delicious, staff was friendly, And there was hardly a wait despite the amount of people in there. Parking is a bit difficult.

Doretta W.

Yelp
Cute coffee house with lots of options. The saving grace was a really good raspberry cream croissant. After that, the mocha was $6 for maybe 10 ozs and what tasted like hot cocoa. The cold brew was actually a little weak. The service was quiet and unhelpful .. actually socially removed.

Muffy F.

Yelp
Good coffee and all but I just paid nearly $7 before tip for a latte. Wow. Just wow !!!!!!!

A E.

Yelp
I want to say I like this coffee spot. But they consistently get my order wrong!! I ordered two oat milk cappuccinos today and they gave me whole milk. We left before we noticed. Very frustrated. And a few days ago I ordered a chocolate croissant and they gave me a plain croissant. As an out of towner, I gotta say people who work here are not the sharpest.

Bob V.

Yelp
The sweet vibe is modern chill and the pastries, from West End Bakery, are flawless. I always drink my brew strong and black but I ordered the Cesspool of Cinnamon, because how could you possibly not, and bam - it's in my top 5 coffee creations of all time.

Jody M.

Yelp
Coffee was good but so tiny! Ask for a larger size if you want a nice sized cup. I ordered the egg and cheese and they heat it up after you order. It takes about 5 minutes. The biscuit is more of a cheesy bread. Barista knew his stuff but cashier had to ask him about adding extra shots. There is a parking garage for easy access.

Dana H.

Yelp
Love the vibe of this place. The coffee is good the everything bagel is great and the people are super nice and helpful.

Rachel W.

Yelp
High Five Coffee in Asheville lives up to its funky vibe with an amazing warm banana chocolate chip muffin that's simply divine. Their coffee is excellent, and the service is always friendly. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's a must-visit spot for coffee lovers!

Dayna L.

Yelp
Such a cute spot. Super friendly staff, greeted with a smile and conversations by two separate baristas. They were out of the biscuit sandwich but their everything bagel with cream cheese was great (could use more CC). Brown Butter Carmel latte was delicious!

Abby M.

Yelp
This was such a cute little coffee shop. The interior was so pretty with brick, cool art, and plants. I ordered a hot vanilla latte and it was so good! I loved the latte art on top. The service was quick and the baristas were so friendly!

Monica R.

Yelp
Great coffee in a nice space, I had the lavender latte and my husband had the lox bagel and coffee.

Suzanne T.

Yelp
Holy moly their specials drinks never fail! The chocolate chip cook not so much. Mellow late afternoon vibe.

Ria G.

Yelp
Great, flavorful coffee! Ordered the barista's special which was a Cinnamon Dulce de leche latte with almond milk and WOW. Beautiful presentation, loved the addition of a biscuit as well. I'm so glad I paid this coffee shop a visit while in Asheville, the crowds speak to its popularity and great coffee.

Liz J.

Yelp
Nice little spot and super quick service. The cappuccino I had was delicious and strong, which I prefer! With the virus restrictions you still have to order outside so I didn't really get to enjoy the location but it looked nice inside. The staff were friendly and efficient. I just wish my drink had been a big bigger. Would recommend.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee shop with great iced coffee and pastries! Service was fast and everyone was very nice !!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
High Five serves coffee and other speciality drinks plus food. My husband and I stopped to get our morning beverages, a chai for me and a drip coffee for him. During COVID-19 they are doing take out only and are limiting it to one party inside (max of 2) at a time. Our drinks were good so high five.

Lily M.

Yelp
Very cute on the inside of the coffee shop! However there isn't anything that is super special about this coffee it was just ok not great. The service was fast and the person that took my order was very sweet.

Amy S.

Yelp
I really wanted to come try this little place based on the reviews and pictures of all the latte art. I got the Barista's choice and it was an ok cup of latte. Nothing to rave about. Wasn't too sweet nor bitter. I think I was hoping for more with the presentation but I guess due to covid everything is a bit off now. There's some outdoor seating to enjoy your coffee as well. I did enjoy the ordering and pick up process. You ordered inside through a window and then walk outside to pick it up. It kept everyone safe and at a distance. Cute place

Whitney M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my coffee. I ordered a cold brew light cream and it was delicious. They had their inside shut down due to COVID, but everything was easy to follow with different spots for ordering and pick up. Parking was easy, in a garage. Small seating outside. It was nice.

Rachel G.

Yelp
I had two requests on Saturday morning and good coffee was one of them. This place is amazing! Super friendly staff! They were pretty quick! The food all looks super delicious. I had a chocolate medicine ball. (No time for a picture! ) I asked what they were known for and she recommended the Cubano !! "the stuff of dreams and legends" DELICIOUS! Go check it out hang out in the beautiful space or grab and go!

Swain S.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee!!! We got a hot caramel latte and an iced vanilla bean latte. Both were delightful! Very friendly service, wonderful atmosphere inside the coffee shop. Would most definitely revisit another time!

Daniel N.

Yelp
Wonderful. Maybe I'm affected by the fact that I have had nothing but awful coffee for a week, but my latte was spectacular. I also really like the atmosphere the service, and the wi-fi. There was plenty of seating both in and out. Highly recommended if you are a coffee connoisseur.

Alex C.

Yelp
Delicious Coffee and Pastries! We stopped in for a warm cup of coffee this morning to keep our hands warm while we explored downtown Asheville. We got a Peppermint Mocha and a regular Mocha and both were delicious!! The Mocha was rich and creamy, and the Peppermint Mocha was light and not too over powering in peppermint. They definitely kept us warm!! We also tried the Coconut Macaroon which was enormous and so delicious. Definitely recommend if you want something warm and sweet.

Yelp
Needing a spot to work from for a couple of hours, my local expert chose High Five! There are three different locations but this one has convenient free parking across the street and plenty of space to work from both inside and out. They brew Counter Culture coffee and it's clear they're experts in the craft, with barista certifications framed all along the wall. I went with a classic cold brew first, followed by a local bottle of kombuchi (buchi) later. They have wifi but it only lasts two hours, so you have to make another purchase to extend the time. I needed some breakfast so decided to go with a lox bagel platter, served with a locally made everything bagel. This exceeded my coffeeshop breakfast dreams! There was thick cut salmon, onion, capers, and one of the best bagels I've had in a long time. It wasn't overly doughy or thick which I enjoyed. I was fueled and ready to take on the day! On a Saturday, this place had a constant line throughout the morning. It's clearly a great neighborhood spot that I know I would frequent if I lived in the area!

Eros R.

Yelp
Delicious lattes! My gf loved her diablo. But they were way too small, and not a great value. Wish they offered bigger sizes!

P S.

Yelp
Dropped in to get a coffee to go. Lady at the counter behind large plexiglass started taking our order, then another lady from the back ran up and told us to mask up. We didn't get vaccinated to have to wear a mask anymore. CDC says no mask needed once vaccinated. No other customers around. So we walked.

Lauren S.

Yelp
Excellent cortado and specialty unique lattes: Weather report and Storm! Friendly staff that take time to make a great drink for you. Relaxed atmosphere.

Jeff G.

Yelp
These people just don't get it. It's mid-June and they are still closed up tight for walkup service only. Everyone else has indoor service now, but not these guys. Their coffees are really overpriced, they are snooty about the service, and the place is basically in an office building. Lousy customer service; couldn't care less about customers. I vote to skip the next time around. I mean, it's just coffee. No rocket science required.

Ken H.

Yelp
I previously had a great experience here and coaxed friends to return as we drove thru town this weekend. There was a decent line, but we stuck with it and waited. Upon making it up to the register, I asked the barista if they had nonfat milk for my cold brew. I was rudely told they had oat and whole milk, as if I was a moron for asking otherwise. As I waited, several of those ordering after us received their drinks. Upon asking where the cold brew was, the barista making drinks stopped what she was doing and put ice and cold brew in a cup and threw a jug of whole milk on the counter for me to add my own milk. I get that it was busy, and they were likely short staffed, but the service was too poor to consider returning, despite the coffee being very good.

John C.

Yelp
COFFEE!! This place was delicious. I love going to different coffee shops and this one had a great name and it definitely deserves a star per finger! I got the cesspool of cinnamon which was unique and extremely delicious. Another thing I love is the art that they display on each of their coffee; it's great and it adds attraction for customers to continue to come. They also have swag if you become obsessed with the location as much as I did. You can buy shirts, hats, mugs and even stickers. I hope to visit the place again if I return to Asheville!

Mandy G.

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop. This is a good hangout spot for doing personal work, hanging with fiends or just hanging by yourself. Calm, cozy and comfortable. Clay took my order and was the friendliest barista I've ever met. His wit and personality is what I love about a small coffee shop. This feels like a true locals spot with the charm and customer service to match. Bonus points for this place being close to downtown but having easy parking. Try their iced matcha latte for something for something refreshing that isn't too overpowering with caffeine. Or if your want to caffeine try their cold brew and watch out, you'll be ready to run around the block after one.

Tina L.

Yelp
The coffee here is legit. I am a big coffee snob and I was impressed with the brew here and the lattes.

Shan W.

Yelp
Someone taking care of the kids means date hour with the husband. Thankfully I tried out this coffee spot with another adult because as I was sitting there I could just imagine the stress I'd be under if I brought my boys with me. Cute shop, crowded so we got to sit on the stage which was fun. Two lattes and an oat bar... $20 (tip included in that price). Sheesh. A bit steep for me. The iced caramel oat milk latte was very good but nothing I'd be back for. I'm glad I visited (it's my goal to try every coffee spot around here) but I probably won't be back. A SAHM with 3 boys under 5... not a good spot for them. But anyone free and single who has leisure time to spend sipping a yummy latte. This place is for you.

Yelp
When I lived in Asheville, this place was my go-to for good coffee. They have a downtown location and another on Broadway, not too far from UNCA. The Broadway location was my favorite, mostly because of the atmosphere and ample parking (Asheville in general has very little parking--so I consider High Five's gravel lot a gold mine). They use Counter Culture beans, which are roasted in Durham, NC and are pretty popular throughout NC. Whenever I see that a place uses Counter Culture, I'm sure to give it a try. They are generally medium roasts that bring out the nutty or fruity notes of the beans. Not only are the beans good, but High Five's baristas make some solid espresso beverages. I'm always hesitant of places that water-down their americanos or load their lattes with syrup. Thankfully, this is not the case for High Five. Their americanos are top notch and reminisce of European americanos because of the layer of crema on top. Their drip coffee options are usually pretty decent too. I also recommend their food. Sometimes I would study here and just stay through lunch. Their sandwiches are on display and their selection can vary. They are served on a focaccia bread with a side salad. As you will come to find, their atmosphere is welcoming and they keep it pretty warm in the winter. The window seats on the ledge are my favorite! Sometimes the service can be pretty slow if it's crowded, so be aware of that. The quality of the drink is also pretty dependent on who is working. I feel like greater consistency amongst the baristas would make this place even better. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area!

Susan H.

Yelp
We've been living here for almost 3 weeks and this has become our go to morning coffee. It's fresh and very good. What makes this place the best morning spot is their breakfast sandwiches. These are pre-made and heated up (just like they do at Starbucks), but before you poo-poo that let me tell you about how these breakfast sandwiches just absolutely melt in your mouth. The eggs are always fluffy and the biscuit is baked to perfection. They are so popular they just about always sell out. Highly recommend adding High Five to your morning commute, whether it be to the office or from your bedroom to your living room.

Jubel P.

Yelp
This happened to be a random stop on my drive back home and oh my gosh, what a find. I don't think I've ever had a cubano that tasted so good! The baristas were super friendly and patient with me and were willing to explain out menu items for me. I also ordered a bacon, egg and cheese panini and it was phenomenal. It was simple with the perfect amount of flavor. I unfortunately didn't get to stay in the shop for long but it seemed like a perfect study spot with various types of seating. If you go here, be sure to get the cubano! 10/10.

Jessica C.

Yelp
5 stars for the coffee. I got 2 of their specialty coffee drinks-- they both had simple ingredients but lots of flavor. I didn't try any of the food so I can't make any judgements on that. The shop was cute, fairly quiet and always had numerous people in their working on their laptops, etc. If I lived locally, this would probably be one of my go to places!

Whitney A.

Yelp
Great service and attention to detail while navigating COVID. They have a microphone and speaker and attached to the plexiglass so, it made communicating very easy! They serve my favorite coffee, counter culture. I ordered the gluten free blueberry crumble and a brown sugar oat milk latte! They were both amazing! The customer service was wonderful as well. There is free parking in the parking deck just behind High Five.

Ben K.

Yelp
It is so nice to be greeted by such friendly staff at a coffee house. Two days in a row, different employees and they were both so genuinely sweet. So wonderful. The store is nicely decorated with bench and small table seating. Parking can be duct but my wife calls me the patron saint of parking so it doesn't AppStore's us ;-). The coffee is great, poured with down to earth latte art. Not at all pretentious, but not at all sloppy. I spied the barista carefully placing the drinks on the pickup counter and wiping the side off the cups of some slipped over the rim. Thank you high 5 coffee- for being simply so sweet!

Katie R.

Yelp
It wasn't what we expected.. Not to say it was bad just not to say it was great. I order pancakes and they came with this peach topping on them.. I should of asked what kind of fruit was on top. I figured it would of been a variety of fresh fruit not some candy peaches.. Chicken sandwich was pretty good! A huge patty! The tator-totts were delicious! I also got a sticky bun which like stated before was different but I loved it so much. Not necessarily kid friendly food. Coffee is strong. Only had raw sugar so if you don't like that your out of luck. Chai is good.

Jamie W.

Yelp
Comfortable cute coffee shop with a lively atmosphere. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We thought the mini tables next to the window were soooo cute! The caramel macchiato was perfection. Our vanilla lattes were delicious! The chai tea latte spice mix was a little too heavy on the pepper. The High Five Merch is a little extra salty. $20 for a small insulated branded cup

Anne C.

Yelp
Having been to the other location over the weekend upon the recommendation of Janet an Ashvillian, I knew I had to try the other outpost of High Five and it did not disappoint. Slightly larger and more bustling then the Rankin Ave location High Five puts out quality beverages for even the most picky coffee lover. My latte was smooth and bold and their option of skim milk made my day. Looks like a lot of locals use this location as a meeting place and a home away from home to meet and work. The owners have taken this into account and have made the interior comfortable enough for that to happen. High Five is a great independent coffee shop with a cool local vibe. Definitely fits well with the aestetics of what I have found to be uniquely Ashville.

Mali C.

Yelp
I'm so in love with this place. It's small, cozy yet the windows are large so it's not claustrophobic inside. There's lots of outdoor seating and plenty of parking which is rare so close to downtown. Overall it's the perfect coffee shop for getting shit done. While I love the space the staff is what makes this place stand out. They have taken the time and spent the money to find, train and retain; fabulous, creative, intimidatingly cool baristas. (I have accepted that I will never be cool enough to fit in here). While I think most of Asheville's barista scene is Wonderful but the High Five team definitely stands out. They do a weekly barista's choice special that is sometimes the sole reason I swing by that week. I've only once regreted ordering it and it was only a texture issue for me (I'm one of those people). One regret out of a dozen or so barista choices that I've tried is really not bad considering how creative they get with their coffee. My top favorites have been a bee pollen sprinkled one (love!), a Fernet cocktail/mocktail inspired one (I could drink this in a car, near or far ) and a rose lavender which was delicate and delightful. They have three locations right now. I'm certain that the quality and consistency of their delicious drink transfer to all of the locations because all of their baristas are all certified with Counter Culture certificates. That's pretty awesome if you didn't know. Check it out and get yourself caffeinated!

Dennis S.

Yelp
Nice place, parking across street which is a little challenge for first timers... Chai was good and strong...

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
This spot has the closest thing in flavor to a true Cubano in NC that I have found since leaving south Florida. The sizing seems a bit larger but hey, that means more coffee and that is always a good thing! The service is efficient but don't expect smiles. The location is best for socializing as it is pretty busy-I don't think I would be able to get much work done here. I'll be back next time I am in Asheville or I may come back just for coffee.

Pyra-Danny S.

Yelp
BRING OUT THE STUDIOUS AND THE CHILL [Warning: Young adults from Central Florida in for a fall vacation] In the early afternoon on a weekday, we were surprised to see almost every seat was taken both inside and out. Half those there were buried in books or laptops while the other half was just chatting in low voices. It was a great environment for working on my laptop; except keep in mind there was a time limit for internet use-- two hours! PRETTY GOOD BREWS We only had their caffeine offerings. Their cold brew was delicate in flavor and was thoroughly enjoyed by the Hubs. Meanwhile, their special back then caught my eye-- a Game of Thrones themed, non-alcoholic coffee cocktail. The cold pour-over coffee contained a good amount of milk, sweetness, and delicious hints of strawberry flavor. The sliced strawberry along the glass finished the effect. Well done. I would've loved to check out more of their espresso offerings. LITTLE TOUCH I ENJOYED There was a small area for diners to sit cross-legged. I loved that! I think they were making use of a construction issue by transforming a raised platform into a comfy nook. I was very comfy among the cushions in that spot until Hubs made me move since he can't sit cross-legged long.

Jacques D.

Yelp
This is a very welcoming, comfortable coffee house. The coffee is excellent, and the bagels that my family had were very tasty. The service is fast, and the staff is friendly. Really great place!

Chloe B.

Yelp
My dad owns his own coffee roasting business and from him, I have learned a lot about what makes good coffee, well, good. While my husband and I were in Asheville on our honeymoon, we looked around to find a local coffee place that knew what good coffee was and we found it at High Five Coffee. We arrived a little bit later in the day, right around closing, and I usually get drip coffee at local places because I believe that's the best way to REALLY taste the quality of beans, but instead we got Americanos since the drip was out for the day. Just a little tip for any other customer who possibly reads this review-- to avoid that "bitter" coffee taste, you need to let your coffee cool just a TINY bit. Once it cools for even like 1 minute, you will be able to taste the natural undertones. If you're concerned about bad coffee places, please know that your cup of coffee is usually only bad if it either 1) tastes like charbucks-- I mean Starbucks-- or 2) has "vanilla bean" or "Carmel" flavor to the beans (because that means the place you're at is cheap and flavors their burnt beans). It is NOT a bad coffee place if you don't have the option to add flavored creamer to your cup or if your drink is too strong. Duuuhhhh. HIGH FIVE COFFEE IS QUALITY COFFEE. If you don't like the taste, it may be because you are accustomed to drinking crap coffee :'( From a coffee snob who prefers paying an extra buck or two for an AMAZING coffee versus less for char, High Five Coffee is grand and the best coffee we had in the area. Also the staff seemed pretty freaking cool to me We will be back in the morning for one last cup before we leave town but, we WILL be back when we return to AVL
