Five Places Worth Trying This Weekend in Denver - Eater Denver

"Who says ice cream can’t be breakfast, lunch, or dinner? High Point Creamery opens a third location in Berkeley Friday at 4 p.m. Visitors can expect the same flavors of its companions, including cookies (three ways) and cream, salted caramel, and Tin Cup whiskey and pistachio brittle. With the same moderate prices and heaping scoops of its predecessors, the Berkeley High Point Creamery also provides a quiet bench in front of the shop to watch the hubbub of Tennyson street." - Camila Navarrette

High Point Creamery’s Berkeley Shop Opens - Eater Denver

"Denver’s High Point Creamery officially opens its third shop Friday in the Berkeley neighborhood. The 4-year-old business got its start in Park Hill, expanded to Denver Central Market and an ice cream truck, and is now also operating out of 3977 Tennyson Street. Customers will find the brand’s familiar flavors such as Tin Cup whiskey with pistachio brittle, cookies (three ways) and cream, and salted caramel. New spring flavors now also are in the mix — see sunflower with lemon, bananas and honey, and violet with lime cookies. Cake-like (but cake-free) French ice cream bombes are available for special order, and sodas, malts, and milkshakes are for sale. The shop is marked by a black and white awning out front above a wooden bench. Inside, it’s a modern soda fountain with penny tile, exposed brick, and blonde wood booths." - Josie Sexton

Google
Love this little ice cream shop. They have some of the most unique flavors I have ever heard of like “cornbread and strawberry jam “ or “earl grey and shortbread cookies.” It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. You will find something you love there.

Google
Personally feel this place is underrated. It's the best ice cream in w. highlands. The flavors are really unique and sophisticated. It doesn't feel too rich or overly sweet. The tin cup whiskey is out of this world, the blueberry lemon is the perfect balance of flavors without being overwhelmingly tart. Mango was another winner. The shop is super cute and service was friendly. My new favorite ice cream shop.

Google
Great ice cream! We had 4 different flavors and enjoyed each of them. It’s be nice if there was more outdoor seating, but there is a park nearby that you can sit at.

Google
The ice cream here is second to none! Every flavor I have had has been amazing and creative! We even get ice cream here in the winter, because it’s so good! I highly recommend it- try them all!

Google
We stopped in at High Point for ice cream on a hot afternoon with 11 students… the young woman begins the case was efficient and friendly, taking her time with the kids and also keeping things going. We were able to observe her serve many customers with the same friendliness and efficiency! The ice cream was awesome- they had Taylor Swift flavors, which was a huge hit with our students. I had a 2 scoop cup with Salty Dog Chocolate and Brown Sugar Cinnamon. A creamy dipped ice cream with intense flavors that aren’t overwhelming and very well balanced- I would eat a gallon of the Salty Dog, if I could!! (Sadly, only got pics of student’s ice cream and not my own!)

Google
Amazing ice cream! The staff is super friendly, the space is bright and quaint, and I thoroughly enjoyed their flavors. I had their salty dog chocolate (absolutely delicious) and their strawberry rhubarb shortcake. The small was super filling and so decadent. 100% recommend this place!!

Google
Loved the cornbread/strawberry jam ice cream, and the whiskey pistachio flavor. Super tasty and very reasonably priced

Google
This place has small town vibes with big town creativity! The staff are lovely and food is delicious. We ate dessert here after dinner down the street. I highly recommend getting the flight because everything we tried was delicious 🤤

Yelp
We came here just before Christmas with our two toddlers, and it was blissfully empty. The ice cream scooper was soooo kind about our semi-annoying order, but more so I watched him be so so patient with the man after us who had a veryyy particular order, and then offered to remake his shake if it didn't taste how he wanted. The customer service was so top notch for us both, thank you for a delightful experience!

Yelp
So yummy and sweet! The basil and blackberry flavor is unique and perfect for the summer. The mint chocolate chip had chunks of dark chocolate and was super refreshing. Cute location in Tennyson and my favorite ice cream spot during my Colorado trip!

Aimee S.

Yelp
Amazing flavors that are natural. Recommend the mint chocolate bark. The mint is so refreshing and purely yummy without the guilt of having an ice cream.

Yelp
I came here on a Monday night with a friend and it was such a treat! I got the tin cup whisky with pistachio brittle ice cream on the employees reccomendation. It was delicious. Great depth of flavor, diverse textures, and delicious. The ambiance was lovely with these cool stone tables and fun decor. They also had a Colorado pride flag which was super cute and I have never seen before.

Yelp
Took an afternoon trip to High Point Creamery today! Located along tenyesson street, it's in a great location! Parking may be difficult, as it's just street parking! They had a wide variety of flavors. I got Tin Cup Wishley and Pistachio Brittle. Had good flavor, wish it had more pistachio brittle. It tasted more like a Carmel ice cream to me. My friend got the blueberry ice cream and she said it was great - tasted like it has real blueberries in it! Staff is super friendly and we were able to get our ice cream quickly!

Yelp
I love high point creamery ice cream and blackberry basil and blueberry lemon are my absolute favorite flavors. The fresh waffle cone was so tasty: I really enjoyed grabbing my ice cream and heading to the park. My husband enjoyed an affogato with coffee bean ice cream and said it was really nice.

Yelp
We were walking around and I happened to spot High Point. Even though it was cold out, I wanted to get some ice cream. Some of the flavors were sold out. I had the earl grey with shortbread cookies since I enjoy tea flavored desserts. There are three locations in Denver.
google avatar

Savanna B.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the variety of fancy flavors like earl grey and shortbread and rose gold (which is whet I ended up with as my toddler loves all things pink) and they do t offer a kid's scoop. The shop was clean and the decor is super cute. We were in on a rainy day so it was slow but I bet they get really busy on hot days. They're right next to Cesar Chavez park, so we were able to stretch our time a bit by heading over there afterwards- ice cream shops followed by playtime outside at the park are a totally winning combination.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
High Point Creamery on Tennyson Street has some of the most creative and tasty ice cream selections anywhere! I had a hard time choosing from them all, but landed on the Pumpkin Pie, in celebration of the season. Had chunks of real pie that made it perfect. Even on a chilly November evening, it was every bit as good as on a warm summer afternoon!
google avatar

Thuy N.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place after lunch. I tried the tin cup whiskey with pistachio brittle. Lots of different options to choose from. They have a good amount of seating inside but there's a bench out front you can enjoy as well. Located in a walkable area with other shops go explore. Service was quick! I think I just prefer my ice cream less creamy or melted almost.
google avatar

Anisa R.

Yelp
They had a limit of 3 tastes before you order. Which is hard when you have a bunch of unique, different flavors. I ended up having the brown butter pecan and was underwhelmed.
google avatar

Senna L.

Yelp
As a proud owner of an ice cream lip tattoo, I give this ice cream shop a 4.2. Overall, they have quality made ice cream at a fair price. The shop has a variety of both unique and traditional flavors so there is something for everyone to enjoy! I 100% recommend sampling the coffee bean & salted caramel - delish! I appreciate the natural flavor & coloring of their ice cream. As someone who can usually never make up their mind about what flavor to choose I also feel a deep sense of gratitude for the option to get a 6 scoop ice cream flight. This cream was smoootheee but if you're a gal that likes some texture in her cream I'd suggest going somewhere else.
google avatar

Sonja A.

Yelp
Pick and choose from a unique variety of ice cream. With flavors like the traditional vanilla and chocolate to blends like blueberry lemon and salted caramel, a flight is the best way to order, especially when one cannot make up their mind. The ice cream is delicious and super creamy. I do believe the coffee and the blueberry lemon were my fave. Strongly recommend sampling the strawberry basil swirl first. It was not my cup of tea as it was heavy on the basil but might be of liking for others. Also recommend that the ice cream serving spoon be rinsed between scoops. Some flavors co-mingled in a odd and not so tasty way.

Yelp
The good: I stopped by because I needed to go to the restroom but had a great excuse to purchase dessert too. I tried the pineapple mint and coconut creme brulee ice cream. It wasn't my 1st time having the 2nd one. I also tried my friend's zucchini bread ice cream. I love their innovative flavor combinations and the option for you to do an ice cream flight to taste 5 flavors. I sat at the window seats and enjoyed people watching. They have regular tables inside as well. The bad: I don't think they had outdoor seating. The pineapple mint was a bit too sweet for me. The zucchini bread ice cream was very white colored and could've used a lot more zucchini bread flavor. I thought it tasted more like sweet cream. Parking is street parking. The interesting: I've been to their other 2 locations and this one is my 2nd favorite one. This one is located on a great walkable street with tons of cute thrift shops and boutiques.

Yelp
Jimi can't resist a waffle cone. And he always makes a mess. It gets all over my hands, my beard, my nose somehow. When will Jimi learn? The answer is never. When will he stop alternating between first and third person? The answer to that is also never. 5 stars

Yelp
I'm sad to say that I finally tried High Point and it's just not for me. It's not that the ice cream tasted bad per se, but it was all super whipped like and just not what I'm looking for in ice cream. It wasn't quite soft serve level, but more along the lines of a heavy whipped cream in consistency if that makes sense. Not at all the hard ice cream you'd typically expect from a creamery. With that being said, we got two flavors, the "Cookies (3 ways) and Cream" and the "Tin Cup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle". I wasn't a huge fan of the cookies 3 ways as it was mainly vanilla ice creams with cookie pieces throughout, very underwhelming, and given that I didn't love the consistency of the ice cream it just was not for me. The whiskey and pistachio brittle on the other hand was super flavorful with tons of caramel swirl throughout it and big chunks of carmelized nuts. I thought this one was pretty good as the different mix ins were super tasty and went so well together as well helped distract from the consistency of the ice cream base. I do have to say I like their unique ice cream flavors and combinations and though the consistency of the ice cream wasn't for me my boyfriend did really like them both! So don't take it from me, go try it for yourself. (I just wanted to share my thoughts.) To each their own right? I did also get a homemade blueberry granola bar type thing by the register while I was checking out and that didn't hit home for me either sadly. However, the staff were super friendly and even gave me a free pup cup of vanilla for my fur baby.

Yelp
There are a lot of great ice cream spots in denver and I have to say high point is my FAVORITE one. I try to keep pints of it in my freezer at all times! The Salty Dog Chocolate has something magical in it I swear!
google avatar

Erika P.

Yelp
AMAZING. Finally found a local creamery I will be buying pints from. The flavor variety was great, from decedent dark chocolate espresso to refreshing basil blackberry. Definitely worth paying a bit more for high quality ice cream. They also offer coffee and a variety of sweet treats. The cafe is super cute as well on bustling Tennyson Street; grab a cone and walk the strip!
google avatar

Carmen H.

Yelp
On the last day of a girls trip we strolled down Tennyson St for some shopping and coffee. After exploring a bit we stopped in High Point Creamery for a sweet treat. The employee was super friendly and patient as we decided what we wanted because of course we had to sample all the ones we wanted. I went with the Joan's Pumpkin Pie flavor. Sooooo good! I'm not a sweet eater so I was happy that it wasn't too sweet. There was plenty of seating and it was a cool atmosphere but we continued our stroll around the area.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
High Point has a nice variety of flavors. The coffee ice cream with fudge is awesome! Everything else I have tried so far has just been okay. But the ice cream flights are so fun!
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
Yum!! All the flavors are unique and delicious, and the ice cream is the perfect amount of creaminess. I recommend the flights to try all the flavors!

Jeremy V.

Yelp
The owners and managers could not be anymore rude and non professional and there ice cream is nothing special
google avatar

Mai L.

Yelp
Man, Denver sure has so many amazing ice cream places and this one is one of them. I love cinnamon so the fact that they have a consistent flavor of Brown Sugar Cinnamon! So amazing!!! The waffle cone is also delicious and crispy. We got our ice cream and found a little seat to enjoy. Just like many places, there were fun seasonal flavors as well. I would love to come back and try their flight! That is one thing I noticed that was unique. I'll be back again!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
I love ice cream. I think most people do. Even my friends who are lactose intolerant will bear through the pain and consume. I also love herbal flavored food/drinks. Given my affinity for these two things, High Point Creamery is a dream come true. Their dairy based flavors are all so creamy while also not being too sweet which is an issue I find with many ice cream stores and store-bought ice cream. The sorbets also have a nice texture and flavor as well. There's a lot to be said about how I can choose a non dairy flavor and it's just as good as the dairy ones. I would highly, highly recommend the herbal flavors or really any of them. I've never had a bad experience here. Tip: This location's store is a bit small so may be missed if not paying attention. Also parking is street parking.
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
Street parking for this location can be hard to find unless you park up near César Chavez Park and walk over. I walked in after a long drive and staff asked how I was doing and was cheerful/excited to serve me. I told them it was my first time and they said no problem, take your time and feel free to ask any questions. Great service! I decided on a flight: Blueberry Lemon, Tin Cup & Pistachio Brittle, Earl Grey & Shortbread, Coconut Creme Brûlée, and Mint Chocolate Bark. You can have Pecans, Whipped Cream, Fudge or Caramel Sauce with the flight. My favorites were Tin Cup & Pistachio Brittle and Coconut Creme Brûlée. Those two flavors were pretty unique to me. The Blueberry Lemon was rather disgusting and stuffed with ice crystals. It was the only one like that though. Gender neutral bathrooms were clean as well as the place itself. My only suggestion would be to offer a flight with smaller scoops for a cheaper price. I really enjoyed trying all the different flavors but I'm used to smaller flights for half the price. Delicious though!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I think I've finally found the best ice cream place in Denver!! This is the creamiest, most flavor packed ice cream. I love the flavor options - they have something for everyone! From classic to some wild flavors, everything I've tried has been delicious. It's also located on my favorite street in Denver. Perfect for an after dinner treat!
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
We had a flight from the High Point creamery on Tennyson street! The location is great and the service is also wonderful. We got the coconut crème brûlée, lemon blueberry, cucumber lime, pineapple basil, earl grey, and mint chocolate chip. The pineapple basil was my favorite! We loved the idea of the flight and it was so aesthetic and cool! High point creamer is definitely some of the best ice cream in Denver!

John S.

Yelp
Very, very rude service. Lived in the neighborhood for 20 years. Been to this place a bunch and have never felt valued as a customer, but its just become way too rude. I won't be going back.
google avatar

Gabby S.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for new ice cream spots in Denver and this definitely is one of my recent favs! The staff was super friendly, they had a wide range of flavors (my favorite part about ice cream places) and the interior was really cute, lots of room to sit down and enjoy your ice cream. I came with a friend and shared the ice cream flight and I can't recommend it enough!! You get five flavors and your choice of caramel or chocolate sauce. The scoops were all pretty big and for around $11, it's a great deal and such a a good way to try multiple flavors!!
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
We heard about this place from a travel podcast we listen to (Extra Pack of Peanuts). Since we were in the Denver area, we stopped by to get stock up on pints on our RV trip. Covid-19: there didn't appear to be a way to order/pay online. Luckily it was quick to stop in and pick up pints to go. We got Basil with Blackberry Swirl, Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Tin Cup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle, and Cornbread with Strawberry Jam. I loved all of the flavors. The Tin Cup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle was probably my least favorite because it needed more caramel swirl and pistachio brittle. It mostly just tasted like normal vanilla ice cream. When you got pistachio brittle it was great. My favorite was the Brown Sugar Cinnamon. It was so full of a delicious cinnamon flavor. If you love ice cream (and who doesn't?), check this place out for unique flavors when in Denver.
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
I first learned of high point creamery from the extra pack of peanuts peanuts podcast during their best desserts of 2018 podcast. They spoke so highly of it I knew I had to try it when I journyed to Denver and I'm so happy that I did. My wife and I shared several of their pints to-go such as the Tincup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle, Basil with Blackberry Swirl, Brown Sugar Cinnamon, and Cornbread with Strawberry Jam. There are some flavors I enjoyed more than others but they were all good. Just pick a flavor that sounds interesting to you and give it a try.
google avatar

Bill W.

Yelp
No vegan ice cream flavors. Also they can't split a single scoop which most others do
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
One visit. Good ice cream, but cannot judge the entire selection.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
All you really need to know is... order the Tin Cup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle! I really could just leave my review right there but I won't. High Point has multiple locations with delicious unique creamy ice cream concoctions. I've tried a handful of their ice cream flavors and the Tin Cup Whiskey and Pistachio Brittle is the way to go. I'm usually a very basic ice cream eater (ie vanilla, cookie dough, etc) but when I was told I had to try the Tin Cup, I listened and I'm so glad I did. I love the creamy ice cream with the little bits of pistachio to add some texture/crunch.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
This ice cream is just not it. It's not sweet enough it's more milky and honestly just kind of boring. Very vanilla no matter what flavor you get if you know what I mean. Probably for the best because I live right next to it and if it was even mediocrely good I'd be a lot heavier right now.
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
I really like high points ice cream flavors. Very unique and there's something for everyone! Their prices are a little high but you're paying for the unique flavors and cool location! I got the cookies and cream + Funfetti. I loved the cookies and cream but funfetti didn't have a lot of flavor
google avatar

Stefanie C.

Yelp
After a lovely dinner at Voghera next door, my friends and I satisfied our ice cream cravings with a trip to High Point. The smell and vibe of creameries bring a unique delight to my life. I chose a bowl of two scoops--tin cup and pistachio brittle. SO good. While I don't usually go out of my way to buy ice cream, I'm making it a post-meal tradition any time I dine on Tennyson.
google avatar

Kelsey B.

Yelp
High point is a great way to end a summer night on Tennyson Street! It's so easy to be "just another ice cream place", but High Point exceeds expectations. The flavors are so unique that you don't typically find anywhere else which is a nice change of pace. I like that they offer options with multiple scoops and different flavors making it really clear what you are ordering and how flexible they are for their ordering options. The only downside, they don't do tastings which makes sense now a days but keep that in mind if you are wanting to try a flavor! Prices are reasonable, and the staff is always friendly. The only downside is this place can get crowded quickly because it is so popular!
google avatar

Paige S.

Yelp
I love High Point Creamery! My friends and I agree that it is some of the best ice cream we've had. Between the three of us, we ordered coffee bean, blueberry lemon, and milk chocolate. All were so good! The coffee bean had a sharp, strong coffee flavor that I loved. We came for the flights, but with COVID they are not allowing dining inside, so the flights are served on plastic trays rather than the cute set-up I'd seen in their photos. So we decided to go with cups of ice cream instead! Would love to try their flights sometime though! Also, they're not giving out samples right now but everything is good so not an issue!
google avatar

Adelaide S.

Yelp
Delicious buttery ice cream and polite staff. I'd recommend the coffee bean to first time customers.
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Oh boy! It's so fresh! Not all ice creams' are created equal. High Point Creamery got it right! Let's get straight to the point. BLACKBERRY BASIL - I'm usually a straight up mint chocolate chip when I go for ice cream but this fresh blend is my new summer obsession.... Especially when you combine it with the MINT CHOCOLATE BARK. They will do a half scoop of a flavor with another to make a full scoop, just ask. They also have a nice size kiddie scoop for the kiddos. Last but not least...they have take home pints to (If your reading this during COVID don't forget your mask for entry. And they are only allowing 4 guests at a time in the shop right now...so they may be a line depending when you go)
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
The store is pretty elegant, they definitely like white a lot. The three of us enjoyed 3 different flavors: Coconut creme brûlée; Coffee Bean; Earl Grey with Shortbread Cookies (this one the best!) Surprisingly, they were all mostly white of off white colored (yes, even for the coffee bean one). Coupled with the oh-too-small portion in clear cups (around $4/scoop), it just doesn't feel like a fun ice cream place you wanna hang out at; more like you gotta dress up to impress and judge an ice cream contest or something like that. Yes, the stuff taste good, the chain is just a bit too "high point" for me. ;-)
google avatar

Helen K.

Yelp
Drop what you're doing and go to high point creamery right now! This is seriously some of the best ice cream I've tasted in the Denver area (and trust me, I eat a lot of ice cream). Finding a good buttery pecan ice cream is like trying to find the fountain of youth but fear not, they have it here. Not to mention the people who are serving the ice cream are incredibly kind and patient (choosing the right flavor is tough work). Highly recommend treating yourself to the best sweet treat in Denver. You won't regret it!!
google avatar

Josie J.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday And was not disappointed. I've seen high point creamery for a while now but never stopped by but decided to because I saw a lot of people walking out of there with ice cream and it looked amazing. So I decided to give it a try. They had a ton of flavors and some that you don't see at most ice cream parlors. They even offer vegan flavors which is great. I ended up getting a scoop of the spinoli and earl grey and they were absolutely delicious. The ice cream was on the softer side which I am a fan of and the flavor was out of this world. Something to note, is that they do not offer samples, I'm sure it may just be because of Covid, but not sure. But it was still worth it. The employees can really give you an idea of what they taste like. Plus they are willing to give you recs on flavors that they think go well together and that they like best. The price was also not bad. For 2 ice creams with 2 scoops it came to about $12. One was in a cup and the other was in a waffle cone. Which in my opinion is great. Because i definitely have paid more for ice cream before...lol For sure will be a place that I come back too in the summer. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Brena E.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times and the service is always so friendly! I've tried different flavors and they are very yummy. Cute place for dessert if you're in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
The hubs and I popped in here last night for a sweet treat. The customer service was awesome and I love that they use reusable spoons for tasters (we just have the one planet after all). I went with the whisky-pistachio and the hubs went with the cherry cheesecake. Both flavors were good although I didn't get much whisky flavor in mine and the hubs didn't taste much cheesecake in his. Both flavors were a little softer than my preference and the mouth feel wasn't as creamy as I like. With that being said I was impressed with the flavor selection and would definitely keep working my way through the options.
google avatar

Khaled A.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of their cookies and cream flavor. It thick yet creamy and the bits of cookies were amazing. Personally I prefer even sweeter taste but I'm very extreme when it come to desserts as I discovered when dinning with other people. The sweetness is still great. They have a lot of textures which makes the decision very hard. I ordered the one scoop in a cup and their portion is very generous specially for the price. Highly recommend high point creamery to satisfy you sweet tooth. Here is my rating: Cookies and cream: 8.5/10
google avatar

Maia B.

Yelp
Super bummed how my milkshake turned out. I got a coffee bean milkshake and he put more milk in it than ice cream. It's almost like a cup of milk instead of a milkshake.
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream spot in a really cool part of town. Lots of different interesting flavors and options. Ice cream is nice and creamy. However, I still prefer little man (I like their flavor options more). Had the coconut creme brulee here and would recommend. Can get a bit busy but line moves pretty fast. They are really good about giving samples so try away before you commit!
