"Bowling alleys aren’t generally the coolest places to hang out - but Highland Park Bowl is definitely not just another bowling alley. This spot was recently restored to its original 1927 form, complete with a Rube Goldberg-esque pin-setting machine. The cocktails here are strong, and the pizza is way better than pizza at a bowling alley deserves to be. The lanes can get expensive at night (up to $70 per hour during peak hours) but during the day on Saturday, it’s only $25." - brett keating
"Drinking and bowling have gone hand-in-hand since the caveman era, and Highland Park Bowl does the combination better than anyone. The historic space on Figueroa has been around since the 1920s, but after a big renovation, it's now a retro steampunk wonderland where you can spend a few hours drinking Old Fashioneds. If you want to bowl, plan on reserving a lane ahead of time. That way, you can bowl a few frames then head upstairs for a spread for wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas." - nikko duren, brant cox
"Few rainy activities compare to a day at the bowling alley, and no bowling alley embraces the golden age of bowling alleys like Highland Park Bowl. "Highland Park Bowl makes for a great date spot for first-time daters and longtime couples who prefer to bond over an activity rather than while sitting across a cramped table. The menu offers wood-fired pizzas, fries, burgers, and more, plus a solid range of cocktails, and there’s bar space to hang after a round or two of bowling. Plus, the best part about a date in Highland Park is the ability to walk around Figueroa after, stopping in at another bar or restaurant to prolong the evening if things go well. Check the calendar to see if there are comedy or burlesque nights on deck." - Rebecca Roland
