Highway Tacos

When my sweetie said we were stopping by a place called Highway Tacos, I was at first hesitant. Let me tell you, this place not only surprised me but impressed me. Super adorable taco spot with delicious food. The tortillas are handmade and salsa I wanted to drink. We will definitely be back.

These were the best tacos I’ve had in a very long time. Top 3 in my life. The corn tortillas were incredible.

The HIghway Burrito is amazing! Get it with pastor and dip it in the orange (spicy) salsa! Life Changer!

As a Buellton local, this was some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! Fresh house made guac, salsa and fresh tortillas too. Great atmosphere and great service too - highly recommend 🙌

Ceasar is the best! Great food, fast, friendly service. Don’t miss the chance for a gringo style Casero! Skip the nasty, mystery meat, illegal roadside vendors and go straight to Highway Tacos if you want real, authentic super good take out Mexican food. Not overpriced and super good!

Fantastic Mexican food! If you're anywhere in the area, definitely worth the trip over if you want a good Mexican meal. Nice outdoor roadside seating, open wood fire, night lighting. The portions are big, great value for money and seems like a favorite with the locals. Highly recommend, well done.

Yummmmm. What a great new addition to Santa Ynez. Great atmosphere with standing tables (no seats, at least yet). The food was 10/10. We had the chicharronsito prensado tacos (pressed pork), el pastorsito tacos and cheese quesadilla. The tortillas tasted freshly freshly home made and the green salsa that came with the quesadilla had the best flavor. The new go-to place. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and not to mention Mexican Coca-Cola, the real good kind.

Stopped in for some food today. I would categorize this as a soft opening phase. I don't think they have concrete hours (lunch started at 12:30 today) and some things on menu are not available yet. The spot is right off of 246 so the atmosphere is "highway adjacent" but taking that into account it is a charming spot. On paper the tacos seem a bit pricey compared to an average taqueria but these are not average tacos. The corn flavor is amazing (they are sourcing fresh flour and corn tortillas) and the meats are cooked over an oak fire right in front of you. We have been longing for good Mexican food in the Santa Ynez area and it looks like our dreams have finally come true. This is very early days for the incredibly personable Cesar (yes the same auto detailing Cesar!) but his mother has been giving him advice from her burrito empire back in Mexico ans it shows. My mom and I were craving some tacos so we decided to try Highway Tacos. When we arrived, there was a few people but it wasn't overly crowded. We took a look at the menu then got in line to order. I ended up opting for some chicken nachos. Whilst waiting, my mom and I ordered some jarritos. They're in a big cooler and you pick out which flavor you want. We took a seat at one of the tables whilst waiting. After a few short minutes, our food arrived. It was very delicious! There was a generous amount of toppings on my nachos. The chicken itself was grilled but not dry. The tortilla chips were very crunchy and tasted like they were made in house. Overall, I had an efficient experience at Highway Tacos but a delicious one. Would recommend it if you want to check them out!

Highway Taco is a really cool taco shop set up along Hwy 246 like a food truck, but in an Airstream trailer with tables set up in front. You can smell all the delicious meat being grilled as soon as you pull up. They have some specialty tacos that include guacamole, queso fresco and crema that typical street tacos don't include. I tried the Pollito Asadito ($5) with chicken, queso fresco, pico de gallo, crema, guacamole, cilantro, onion and salsa. Bomb! I also got the Casero with flour tortilla, chicharrón prensado, beans, pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole and salsa. The chicharrón prensado is uniquely made here and flavorful, like chorizo. Their corn tortillas are made in house and are so fluffy! Their salsas are so good too! I loved the creamy orange one, which may have been made with pepitas (pumpkin seeds). Shared al pastor nachos with my friends and it was loaded with cheese, guac, beans, pico de gallo, crema and queso fresco. The al pastor was pretty fatty and chewy. My friends liked the street tacos, 3 for $10! They also liked the Calabazita, the zucchini tacos with jalapeño, onion and queso fresco. The orders came out quick too. Highway Taco served as a great pit stop between Solvang and our stay in Santa Ynez!

overall really good, best tacos in the valley. I mostly order to go so if you're like me and you are looking at pictures before you order from somewhere to make sure it looks good, just be warned that if you order their side of rice, which is $4, this is what you are getting it is MAYBE 4 bites worth. place is definitely pricey for what you are getting, generally speaking for the menu.

Don't let this place fool you. Thought for years passing by it was a white washed joint with an airstream, but it is actually delicious and authentic. The service does seem a little lacking though and there always seems to be confusion on whether you are supposed to get the food yourself or let them get it and bring it to you. Other than that, would highly recommend.

Really good tacos and burritos definitely recommend the meat was really flavorful not dry at all and home made tortillas can't get any better than that. Delicious!

Really enjoyed the location. Reminded me of the street taco stands out in Mex. Tortillas are made fresh. Even asked to buy some to take home. Ordered tripas, carne asada and pastor tacos. And burrito. Flour tortillas highly recommend.

I don't know where to begin with this one. The customer service at this location is by far one of the best I have ever experienced. Their food is delicious and freshly made to order. They are constantly grilling meat, so you get the best flavor. I am not a chicken taco person, but this is a must try. Make sure to pour some of that habanero sauce on it. Unfortunately, we did not get to eat there because it was late. There is plenty of parking and their set-up is really cool.

We were in Santa Ynez for a wedding and needed something easy to eat while we were getting ready. Highway Tacos ended up being the perfect spot! I got two chicken street tacos and I was super impressed. The corn tortillas were homemade, soft, and fresh. The chicken was tender and juicy, unlike chicken at most taco places. It was a simple taco but it was done perfectly. I don't think I have had this good of tacos before. Plus the prices are super reasonable. The street tacos are 3 for $10! Highly recommend if you want authentic tacos outside of Mexico!

Food, service and ambiance all solid and met expectations. It's been a while since a taco truck caught my eye, and highway taco's managed to do it with their airstream taco trailer, nice touch! Do not be deceived this place is located at a spot where you're either hauling to get in or out of town, so take a moment and stop for a homemade tortilla taco with plenty of meat.

Their tacos are so good and filling! We were visiting Solvang and came across Highway Tacos on Yelp. We were going to have our dinner here but I decided to go to a sit down restaurant instead... (regretfully, it was expensive and not satisfying.. but that's for another review) We decided to come by the next day and thankfully we did! We got their chips and guac, 2 orders of their 3 for $10 tacos and 2 mulitas. All of them were so good and we left stuffed! (It was me, my husband and our child). I believe their tortillas are handmade, so their chips are even better than most Mexican places I've been to! Sooo good. Decent prices as well! Definitely recommend them if you are in Solvang.

I waited 35mins for a 4 tacos and they were cold. Like what. The highway were good but how, how make cold tacos for 30 minutes.

First time visiting highway tacos and I had the tacos de asada and my husband had tacos de lengua and they hit the spot!! Amazing taste and homemade tortillas!

The food was amazing! Definitely my new to go place for an excellent burrito. I had the highway burrito and wow! I've never had a burrito so good! The tortillas there must be homemade because they are by far the best! I have yet to try anything else on the menu but I'm definitely looking forward to it. The service was very friendly!

I found this spot thanks to my girlfriend, who spotted it as we were driving up to Solvang. Tucked away next to the highway, this place is an absolute hidden gem! The tacos are incredibly authentic--true Mexican flavors with handmade tortillas that are fresh, soft, and absolutely delicious. I love these tacos so much that I've even made the drive up here just to eat them! On our most recent trip, we ended up eating here three nights in a row for dinner, and I have no regrets. The flavors, quality, and freshness keep me coming back. I didn't get a picture of the quesadilla, but trust me--it was amazing. Thick, cheesy, and packed with flavor. Honestly, I was so hungry that I ate it before I could even think about taking a picture! If you're anywhere near Santa Ynez, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't regret it!

Amazing tacos! The corn tortilla are are good. The chorizo taco was my favorite. I love the location and decoration of this taco place.

Absolute BEST Tacos!!! On 246 between Casino and Santa Ynez High School. Highway Tacos at the Airstream Trailer.. The Tortilla itself was homemade and delicious. The Lengua and Asada were fantastic. I'd definitely go again. 3 Tacos for $10

3 for 10 street tacos are the best in town. Way better than the place down the street. I've tried every mexican spot in this area and this is my favorite one by far. The meats are so well cooked, so tender, and I would bathe in their habenero hot sauce (the orange one). The tomatillo salsa they give out is good too but the orange habanero one is the best. The al pastor and the carnitas are my runner ups but usually I just get all chicharron for my 3 tacos because it's so good. My boyfriend knows that if I had a bad day at work or I'm giving him attitude or I'm hangry all he needs to do is get me the chicharronsito prensado tacos from Highway Tacos. They're that good, they literally have the ability to change your mood. Tried the nachos for the first time today too (pictured) and they were great too. My only complaint is that they don't sell horchata. But maybe they will someday...

The owner greeted me with calm, kindness, and quiet strength -- something rare these days. The tacos were fresh and full of flavor, and the space itself felt special: shaded tables, good music, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Simple, thoughtful, and made with heart. Respect to the man behind it.

Best tacos in the area! They have a 3 tacos for $10 deal! The staff has been super careful about my food allergy. Highly recommended!

We came here while visiting solvang. Solvang closes so early so it was hard to find places open. This spot was open late so it was perfect! My bf and I got the 3 street tacos and a mulita. We ended up ordering another mulita after we ate because it was so good. The pastor mulita is a must!!! But overall the food was great. Everything came out hot, tasty, and they make the tortillas homemade. It is Affordable and has a cute atmosphere to eat. They also have a bunch of drinks in a cooler to choose from to go with the food. The employees were nice too

Absolutely delicious Mexican food. Seems homemade and the ingredients are fresh. The owner bar b ques the high quality meat right there outside. It's a fun place to sit and watch the traffic go by. Everyone is super nice and our food came out pretty fast. We had a great time there.

Seriously, the best Mexican food in Santa Ynez/ solvang. Everything is made from scratch, including the tortillas, which are incredible. I'm also a huge fan of all of their salsas. Rice and beans are not to be missed as well.

This adorable roadside toco paradise deserves 6 stars. I just came home from two weeks in Mexico and didn't have street tacos this good, especially for the price in SY! $10 for 3 sizable tacos on freshly handmade corn tortillas. The first 3 were so good I ordered 3 more! The beef cheek is a must, but the smoky chicken, tender lengua, charred carne, al pastor and mushrooms are all stars too! If you go at sunset it's over the top cute and the servers/cooks are so friendly and genuine! In other words. I'm going back tomorrow!

This place was so so good! I'm a huge fan of Mexican food and this place definitely makes the top of my list for tacos. I had the beef cheek (my favorite, I got two), chicken (such an amazing smoky taste too), al pastor (amazing), lengua (I'm not usually into beef tongue but oh my god this was perfection), and the Mushroom taco was really good even if you are not a vegetarian! The mushrooms are just cooked so well. Also this place is so freaking cheap! 3 tacos for $10!? Especially in this area where everything is so expensive, this was wayyyyyy more worth the inexpensive price for wayyyy better tasting food. And it's outside and really cute and such a great spot. Highly recommend

This place has the best Mexican food! The homemade corn and flour tortillas are so fresh, everything is clean, and the service was excellent. I'll definitely be back!

Fun by the side of the road taco spot. Sitting is limited. Drink choices also limited. Food was good.

The best taco and burritos are ALWAYS consumed on the side of a noisy road. Sorry folks, you need to be a little tough to eat here, but TOTALLY worth it. Enjoy.

Wow! This place is amazing! Well at least their chicken and carne asada burritos were amazing. Great flavor (not sure about the other review that said they were lacking in flavor) and their sauce on the side was excellent. We just moved to the area so we are excited to have found a good burrito place! Looking forward to trying more things on the menu.

Authentic delicious Mexican food. We had tacos, burritos and tortas, the tortillas are handmade and have the best corn flavor.

Food was really amazing. Tacos are a little small but the homemade tortillas were delicious. The mulita was huge. The nachos wee full of flavor. Causes were amazing. Only downside was waiting 40 minutes for an order to be ready. Definitely call ahead for your order.

Stopped in for a few tacos and was still glad we did. The asada is amazing,! The grilled chickenwas amazing and all on fresh made tortillas. At 3 for10 bucks you can not beat it.

Loving this new addition to the valley! Great location and outdoor seating. The food is spot on with unique choices hard find in syv like tripas, chicharon, and lengua. Tasty al pastor too. Friendly and fast service. Best tacos in the valley!!

Normally a great burrito but tonight it was a different story. The two younger guys working didn't seem to care and we got our burritos oddly quick and the meat was very undercooked and was very chewy and the burritos were just cold . Like i said normally stoked on this burrito but these guys did not seem to care and it definitely made me regret tipping 25 percent.

I decided to try them out. I ordered 3 chicken tacos. They were so delicious that I have gone there once a week since my first time. Their prices are reasonable and they are friendly and efficient.

Wanted to try this place out. Tasted bland. Salsa was good and had a kick, but won't go here again.

Authentic Mexican food! Home made tortillas and all the kinds of meat you look for when eating real Mexican food. Salsas are also made in house ! Food comes out fast and fresh with a Gracias ! Place is nice and clean plenty of places to sit or take it home like I did ! If your at the Chumash Casino it's just one block away and a must have!
