Yelp
Vegan Mexican (Yucatan) food? Gluten free (GF), soy free (SF), and nut free (NF) options?! Pfft.. how good would that even taste? Boy oh boy, did I have a (very pleasant) awakening.
First thing first - ambiance. This mom and pop store is on the ground floor of a free parking rich plaza, with a huge yellow sign that reads "VEGAN" (tacos, burritos, bowls). The interior is homey and fits the vibe for chill and easy going.
Next - service. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the entire staff. The super helpful young lady at the counter provided some amazing recommendations from each side of the menu, and ultimately, I chose the "choose any three" (pick from tacos, sides, desserts, or agua frescas for $14.25). So price point is easily affordable! My picks?
1. Taco Banh Mi (NF). Tofu, pickled carrot and daikon radish, cucumber, spicy mayo, jalapenos, and cilantro on flour tortilla. Essentially, a vegan banh mi's cousin from the Yucatan :)
2. El Yucateco Taco (GF/SF/NF). Roasted achiote, mushrooms, pickled habanero onions, and avocados.
3. One of the house specials: ninos envueltos (GF/SF/NF). A cabbage roll stuffed with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, mint, and quinoa with homemade pepita and epazote sauce, chiltomate, and house crema.
And dessert you ask? Of course! The team was so awesome - they threw in the 'Crema de Coco' (GF/SF/NF) on the house! Fruit custard with coconut cream base and blueberries.
Final verdict? Fair price, great service, and even better (food) product! Will definitely be back to try more! Thanks Hijo de su Madre team!! :))
