The 18 Best Restaurants in Budapest, Hungary | Eater

"Located on a quiet side street in downtown, Hilda is a modern Hungarian restaurant known for its commitment to top ingredients. Marbled Mangalica pork comes from a farm in eastern Hungary, sweet paprika from the paprika heartland near Kalocsa, and fresh trout from Tahitótfalu. The restaurant’s interior is decorated with colorful Art Nouveau tiles, and plush midcentury chairs are tucked into cozy, low-lit corners. Hilda is an ideal destination for a special date night enhanced by Hungarian wines." - Tas Tobias

How Food Scenes Around the World Are Coping Amid Coronavirus | Eater

"A small downtown Budapest restaurant had to empty roughly 30 liters of kegged beer before shutting down for at least a few months; staff turned the sad closure into a makeshift send-off by inviting the neighboring restaurant’s service team for a few rounds, highlighting how many local eateries that depend on tourists cannot realistically pivot to delivery and face prolonged uncertainty." - Eater Staff

We had a wonderful evening here sat outside watching the world go by in the coolness of the back streets of Budapest. Service was incredibly attentive and welcoming. We opted for the Goulash and the Lamb which were both equally delicious. Really nice toilets too!!

We had an incredible experience at Hilda. The service was attentive and welcoming, and the food—absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. From start to finish, every bite was a delight. The highlight was the dessert, Mákos nudli—easily one of the most creative and memorable desserts we’ve ever had. Hilda truly showcases the best of contemporary Hungarian cuisine. Highly recommend!

My friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant one evening and we were lucky to do so. The staff were very attentive and were incredibly helpful with sharing their recommendations. Portion sizes were generous and the food was delicious. I will be sure to come back again.

The goulash is phenomenal here and service is wonderful. Small menu done well. And our waiter was so sweet, brought us some extra food and bread which was so good. So glad we ended up here instead. Very comfortable environment and not a tourist trap at all.

We visited this place after a long day of sightseeing in Budapest. Unfortunately, we were very unpleasantly surprised by the attitude of the waiters — dissatisfaction and eye-rolling. The food was tasty, but the bread served with the dishes was cut by the waiter without using a napkin (with bare hands) — unfortunately, we only noticed this later when he was cutting it at another table. The waiter also didn’t help with the wine selection, simply saying, “here’s the white, and here’s the red,” and stood silently while I, exhausted, tried to figure it out. Overall, the place is nice, but the service left an unpleasant aftertaste.

High end Hungarian cuisine in a beautiful art deco meets contemporary atmosphere. The food was exceptional and the space was stunning!

Delicious stew and meatloaf as mains accompanied by a medium bodied Hungarian wine 🍷. As starters had a salad and artichoke onion soup but the palate was different to our familiar taste and found them on the sour side. Still nicely presented. Too full for dessert. Service excellent.

We went to this restaurant not expecting very much but it went above our expectations. Great, cosy and intriguing interiors and design. Food was very pleasantly good, and better than what we thought it may be. We describe the food as elevated and modern Hungarian cuisine with a slight Asian fusion twist, but it all came together quite well. Book ahead as it was full when we arrived and wouldn’t have been seated with prior reservations. Service was great and they gifted us with a complimentary birthday dessert!
