"The cozy family-owned Mexican restaurant focuses on house-made everything, including tortillas sourced from its very own factory. This means all sorts of tacos, burritos, gorditas, fajita plates, quesadillas, and much much more. Plus there are drinks and beers. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are indoor dine-in services." - Erin Russell, Nadia Chaudhury

Make sure you take note of the price increase on their items. No notice from staff and no paper posted. My entree was 8.99 and was charged 11.99. Service was slow for brunch time. The restaurant wants even half way full. First time here and may be the last.

Google
Our first time to eat here!!! We went because we heard they were going to have live music with Corey Weaver on the patio. It was a beautiful night. The food was very good. I especially liked their chips and hot sauce. My husband had a cheesy burrito and I had some beef and chicken nachos with lots of cheese. We will definitely eat here again and be looking forward to more live music on the weekends

I traveled 2,000 miles to eat breakfast at Hilda's. If you are up early in Fredericksburg out by the airport and want a hot breakfast at 6;00 am that will jump start your day, then Hilda's is the place to start your day. The Huevos Rancheros and hot coffee were perfect. Ps, thanks for the mug.

Google
Google reviews didn’t disappoint at this place. We had a lovely outdoor patio that we thoroughly enjoyed. The margaritas were also very nice. If you visit here, you must try the potato tacos! They don’t come with the meat, we ordered as a side of chicken fajita and adding it to them was amazing. It’s definitely something I’ll try again.

Google
Indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor bar available. Friendly service. Huge portions. I had the shredded chicken nachos which were good, but the chicken lacked some flavor. My husband had the fajita chicken quesadilla and stated it was good.

Google
Great experience, food and hospitality. Me and my husband were greeted at the door and were helped very quickly. We got our order placed in a quick amount of time and also got out food In a very fast time as well. Would definitely recommend coming here if you're ever in the mood for great Mexican food!

Google
We were in town working the fires, and we found that this was the fastest, most delicious place to have a quick lunch so that we could get back to work. The one young server was simply delightful, and she's the fastest waitress I've ever seen. We all loved the superb food and we came back every single day. Thank you again

Google
Had an amazing dinner with friends after a long drive & five hours in the Luckenbach heat. Salsas & guacamole were delicious & the main dishes were perfect. Flavorful & perfectly presented, the meal was wonderful, a great way to finish a fun but exhausting day.

Yelp
Stopped here last week for breakfast. You sit yourself when you walk in. Wait staff was very friendly. The chips and salsa are very good. I had the chorizo and egg plate. Big portions! Our waitress even gave me a big to go cup of sweet tea when we left. If ever in this part of Texas again I would definitely come back.

Aryelle S.

Yelp
This is a Mexican diner that is on the smaller side. It's seat yourself. Since it's family owned, service is a little slower as there isn't many servers but please be patient. You get chips and salsa to start. The salsa is good but the chips were stale. We ordered the chicken fajitas which were good and the carne asada which was also really good. I will say they have really good flour tortillas!!

Heather M.

Yelp
The food was authentic, the service was good. The food came out fast. The tortillas were excellent! I was shocked to find such an authentic place in Fredericksburg. The place was busy but they to be rotating out of there quickly with the fast service. The coffee wasn't the best but the food was great! The beans reminded me of my tias homemade beans.

C W.

Yelp
My husband and I love Texmex/mexican food! If you are in the area, I recommend this place 100%! It's difficult to find a place that I absolutely enjoy everything. The salsa has great flavor! Queso also great! They have corn and flour tortilla chips both are delicious! I got the fish tacos with charro beans and rice, so good!!! I tried my husband's refried beans and they were also amazing! They had a smoky flavor. 100% go here!

Michelle A.

Yelp
This was stop #4 as the recommended breakfast spots had huge lines. We turned around and saw this place. Guy working seemed excited when people came in and said to sit anywhere. I ordered chorizo and egg and chorizo and potato breakfast burritos. 4/5 as these are pre-made and not made to order. My first chorizo and egg burrito, the chorizo was the color of chicken. The green salsa was good. Very heavily wrapped with tortillas and I just removed excess tortillas. The horchata was super good. No fried icecream here either. It's a MN Mexican thing I guess. Yelp
Soggy tacos over priced just threw bacon on out side of tacos definitely don't recommend this place even my kids didn't like it

Andrew S.

Yelp
Great place out towards the airport about a block off the highways. Locals love this spot for great tacos and burritos. Excellent hot sauce , the dishes use fresh ingredients, wait staff is friendly. The cleanliness is outstanding. Large or small groups no issue. A sort of drive through - it's a side door. Lots of parking.

Derek M.

Yelp
Unbelievable. It's summer, in Texas, very hot outside, and this guy at the restaurant made us pour out our waters that we brought. I can't leave my water in the car, it'll just get hot. The guy -- not sure if he's the manager or what, but he blamed it on state regulations not allowing "outside beverages". I've lived in Texas for almost 50 years, I take my water into EVERY restaurant, and I've NEVER been told that. Unfortunately, we're here with a group, or I would have just left. IF yelp allowed less than one star, I'd do zero.

Wesley K.

Yelp
The food here is decent. However, when we visited recently, their printed menu pricing and their board pricing were not aligned and they of course, charged the more expensive price. Lack of attention to detail, not sure would go back again after this.

Maribel C.

Yelp
$41 dollars for five tacos salty, and nasty greasy tacos and got charged for a buritt we didn't order we'll never go back rip off for nasty food

Scott B.

Yelp
Nice little establishment a bot off the beaten path but worth the stop. I showed up at 8 AM on this Saturday and this place had a steady flow of customers going in and out. Plenty of seating both inside and outside on picnic benches scattered around the parking lot (shaded). I asked for the best selling breakfast burrito and was told it was the bean and cheese. I also ordered the "Especial" which was loaded with everything. Both burritos were freshly made and piping hot. The best selling bean and cheese burrito tasted bland. The "special" was much more flavorful. The server gave me all three options of sauces all of which were very freshly made. My favorite was the green sauce. Nice stop for a quick and filling breakfast. I'll try to come back for the chorizo and egg burrito.

Adiki G.

Yelp
Miga's with Bacon! What a treat! I will definitely visit this establiment again. Oh and try their pancakes! Delicious!

Jose M.

Yelp
Horrible place to eat at, I'm Hispanic and when I walked in I immediately received dirty looks from all the people eating inside , also I wasn't even helped at all by any waiters!!! I've been sitting and waiting trying to order but the staff won't even approach me. Horrible business

Pamela K.

Yelp
This place is great. Food was authentic TexMex and delicious. It's located away from city center but definitely worry the drive.

John D.

Yelp
Howdy Y'all!! When you're visiting Fredericksburg treat yourself right for breakfast lunch or dinner. Back in December I tried their carne guisada plate and it was close to my Mom's and my Grandmother's and they make their own tortillas in house tambien. We had about a dozen folks in our group and we all enjoyed our to go orders. Service was friendly and efficient - from the tyme we parked, ordered and departed with our breakfast tacos to go it was less than 15 minutes with 4 customers ahead of us. The cafe is about medium size with typical Tex Mex ambiance and it smelled awesome. The parking lot had the "tell" of multiple utility and construction trucks and first responders of every stripe. Enjoy and have a good day. TYJD

Yelp
Hilda's is a great place to eat. Service was great (it was not a busy day). We ordered a quéso appetizer, and it was served with chips and yummy salsa. The Assada tacos were plentiful. My wife's chicken burrito looked "meh," but she said it tasted good. Not sure what the $1.30 service charge was for, tho.

Kaitlin O.

Yelp
Craving Tex-mex after spending a few hours at Enchanted Rock, my friends and I decided to come try out Hilda's in Fredericksburg. Service was pretty slow but that may be because the restaurant was pretty packed (it was the Monday after July 4). It took a while to figure out how seating worked, to get our drinks, to get chip refills, and to get food. I ordered the beef enchilada plate (with double rice) and the price wasn't too bad ($11). The enchiladas themselves weren't spectacular: they were on the smaller side and whatever sauce they used wasn't that flavorful and a bit more on the liquid side. The complimentary chips and salsa were quite nice though.

S H.

Yelp
The flank steak is an overlooked menu item that is great! Get it cooked the way you like it.

Mel N.

Yelp
Maybe a 3.5 but it was enjoyable Tex mex. Friday night a little after 6pm and there was no wait. It started get busy when we finished around 7:30? The restaurant is for sure understaffed especially in the earlier part of the night, but another server joined the shift. Only the first basket of chips and salsa is complementary, which I'm used to it being "unlimited"... so that was disappointing. The salsa has a kick. Got the beef fajitas ($20) and it was good. I'm use to them coming out on a sizzling plate, but it was a regular plate. Comes with rice and refried beans and guacamole. Big enough to split between two people in my opinion. I was also eyeing the burritos on the menu which looked reasonably priced. There are some TVs in the restaurant.

Michael T.

Yelp
Simple restaurant, plenty of seating. Traditional Mexican and American breakfast choices. Friendly and helpful staff. Fresh hot coffee. Highly recommend Hilda's.

Martice C.

Yelp
Love the breakfast burritos and salsa! This restaurant is a staple every time we visit Fredericksburg!

Rolf S.

Yelp
We love Hilda's! When the fresh chips and green and red salsa immefiately appear on our table I can't control myself. My wife always gets the cheese enchiladas. Flavors are wonderful. I have tried almost everything - thank goodness Mondongo is not on the menu...

Karen C.

Yelp
Won't be back. Food and service pretty good. Margarita a mess even with extra shot. Too bad, we are locals

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Had an early dinner there, and then breakfast the next day. The food was really good, as was the service. We wanted to grab breakfast burritos on Fri, but they were already sold out! Get there early if that is what you want to try. They sell out fast!

Marina S.

Yelp
Chips and the Salsa from the squirt container were delicious! We both enjoyed our meals! I had a wonderfully marinated skirt steak with beans/potatoes. My spouse had a pork dish in a tomato sauce, Also very good! Both meals paired with a giant bottle of coke served in a chilled mug! Left full and happy!!

Donna J.

Yelp
As a Fredericksburg resident, have eaten here many times with no bad experience. My family loves the brown salsa; we go there weekly using the drive through to pick up 2 containers of salsa. The past 4 containers have been so hot, it is inedible. I am that person that's puts hot sauce and spicy peppers on everything. Thinking Hilda's might want to know that the quality of their salsa has changed, we called to speak to either the Manger or kitchen supervisor; my daughter made the call as she is a chef and could speak to the change. Jennifer answered the phone and we got no further. Explaining what we were calling about, her response was that the jalapeños are coming from Mexico and not the usual from California , they are spicier, and that they are still using the same recipe. Then Jennifer asked "do you need to order something"; we told her we just had and that was why we are calling. Her answer to that was the same, "yes, but do you want to order something". It was like she told us the jalapeño story and only wanted us the stay on the line if we ordered something. Question is, if the jalapeños they are now having to use are too spicy, and they admit that, then why not adjust the pepper ratio? Also I have had hot jalapeños, but it wouldn't surprise me if these were Serrano peppers.

Yelp
Just the best! Went in on Dec 29 for lunch with a party of 6. Waited just a heart beat for table to turnover and quickly be cleaned. We were seated and brought 3 baskets of fresh hot chips and 3 lg squeeze bottles of fresh salsa OMG so good! Menus and ordering was prompt and when we received food, we were impressed with quality of food, Flautas, Fajita Nachos, Traditional Beef Tortas, customer service and good price points. Exceptional! We will be back!

Wilhelm V.

Yelp
My wife and I were longtime satisfied customers of Hilda's, but no more. The food is still quite good but their consideration for their customers' health is abysmal. Contrary to our local council's and mayor's orders for ALL businesses they refuse to wear masks even in close contact. This is intolerable. We can no longer recommend this place, not even for takeaways, but to the contrary must advise staying away from them if you value your life.

Tracy C.

Yelp
This place is so awful. I know there aren't a ton of choices in Fredericksburg, but this one should be at the bottom of your list. The breakfast "tacos" are giant and too much food. The "homemade" tortillas are so dough-y and gross if you finish it you will bloated all day. Last time I was there they served me a burrito with meat so burnt it couldn't even be cut in half. There is no way that a good chef looked at the rock hard meat on the counter and thought it would be acceptable to serve. yet it was put in a burrito and then served to me. Again, I couldn't even cut it in half and had to return the whole thing. The salsa here is good but it's main ingredient is MSG; says so right on the to-go package. YUK GO ELSEWHERE FOR QUALITY Mexican that's actually edible. I know I will.

Cutter B.

Yelp
Went to Hildas for breakfast. They wanted to charge $3.99 for chips and salsa (way too expensive) during breakfast, however it's free during lunch and dinner. Explain that to me. Then I asked for coffee and put it in my tumbler and they made me take my tumbler out of restaurant saying no outside containers allowed. Food was good but cmon man.

Betsy H.

Yelp
Exceptional every time! Love the margaritas, the tacos, and the service is the best! We will be back!

Mark C.

Yelp
Mark the Reviewer here. Visited this place at place near Fredericksburg, TX. The wait for the food was noticeably long and the waitress didn't refill our chips most of the time. The chips and salsa were quite tasty however and had a nice crunch to them which I like. The chicken enchilada was about $12 which is a little more than I would normally pay for one. Didn't feel like the portions were that big but it was filling because it's texmex and it has a lot of cheese and fried stuff like beans. I felt like I obliterated the enchiladas in less than a minute and I wasn't even trying to eat them that quickly. The enchiladas are drowned in a pool of green sauce which was a mix of sour and spicy tastes. The enchiladas themselves were quite small and did not have a good bite to them. It was very soft and watery like a paper towel. It didn't have the that nice firm bite that I want my enchiladas to have. The taste was just off to me and didn't satisfy me because the sauce and chicken were very forgettable and all I remember is that they were salty. The rice and beans were good however but those two are just the side dishes and you need your main dish to kill it to be a good meal.

Tim C.

Yelp
Great fresh Mexican food...so tasty. 6 of us and we all had something different. Alexander the best server ever!!!!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
OMG the food is so good!! I had a potato, sausage, egg and cheese burrito. The tortillas are homemade and so fresh. The staff isn't real friendly, but the food makes up for it.

Daniel T.

Yelp
Food was very good! We are visiting from Houston Texas and wanted some good Mexican food so we found this place on Google and it was just as good as the pictures show! Highly recommend!

James F.

Yelp
Seems to be a local spot versus all the touristy lousy German food on Main Street Fredericksburg. Hilda's is actually across from a car dealership I like; wife and stopped in for a snack before visiting our favorite bar in the area. Excellent chips with salsa strangely served in a squirt bottle. Sauce was a bit watery but had good flavor. Not wanting a full meal, I opted for a simple shredded chicken tostada. Meat was well seasoned and came with my requested guacamole atop the traditional beans, lettuce, tomato and cheese. I was a bit worried as a side of guac was $3.99 on the menu. Not even a teaspoon was added to the top; no charge on the bill. Wife ordered cheese enchiladas topped with red Guajillo sauce. Second strangest thing here folks; enchiladas were served in a ramekin literally swimming in the gravy. Rice and beans were acceptable fare. Biggest issue being if your have tortillas in the name of the your business you should be making them in the kitchen. Nice staff; just nothing to report that really amounts to more than a three star rating.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Husband and I ate lunch at Hilda's yesterday when we were in Fredericksburg. The parking lot was packed but we grabbed the last available table. Our waiter was amazing. He was doing everything.....wait staff, bartender, getting our drinks, etc. Even though the restaurant was fully packed and busy, he made sure everyone was waited on and more. We both had a taco plate.... Mine was crispy beef and my husbands was soft beef tacos. Both plates came with rice and refried beans and extra tortillas. Excellent. The chips and salsa were also excellent. Our food came out quickly. Every one of the people who worked there were hustling to make sure everyone was happy. We were thanked for coming in when we paid our bill. Will definitely be back. Very reasonable prices, too!

CJ C.

Yelp
I give this place one star, only because their chips and sweet tea were pretty good. If you like TV dinners and a plate full of salt this is the place for you...

Andi E.

Yelp
Great food, quick service. There is a reason the restaurant is always busy. Local favorite. Great margs!!

Bob D.

Yelp
Salsa was OK. Queso was bad. Chips were never refilled. Fajitas were decent. Margaritas were bad. But the reason I'm giving two stars was the service. Terrible.

Haleigh B.

Yelp
Terrible service! Very unfriendly staff who acted like we were an inconvenience rather a customer.

Robert B.

Yelp
Hilda's can't decide if they are Tex-Mex or Mex-Mex. Whatever it is, they aren't doing it well. The food is mediocre on the best days. Combine the mediocre food with the consistently poor, often rude, attitude from the staff and you've got a restaurant that doesn't make you want to return.

Stacy J.

Yelp
Hilda's is a staple. The owner is a respectable person. The staff, when they're on the ball they're really good. Sometimes they get a few people that just can't keep the pace. This place is usually hopping. Sandra that works there is amazing. She really tries to make things right. The food is really good more often than not. I

Briar W.

Yelp
Best tacos in town. They even have a drive thru, which makes things smooth. The tortillas are the bees knees.

Tina A.

Yelp
Went today for the first time, and believe me, it won't be our last. The chips are home made, the salsa....just like I like it!!!! Spicy! The portions were generous and the food good.

Ethan M.

Yelp
I don't understand how a company and try to take pride in itself for being a great Mexican restaurant and take pride in its tortillas but not sell tacos? So mind baffling to me. Food was mediocre and flavorless and the service was ever worse. Next time I'm in Fredericksburg I will not return.

Jessie C.

Yelp
Fantastic food, fantastic service. Not sure why it only gets 3.5 stars, but we're kinda food snobs and we loved it. You will not be disappointed. We will be back! Thanks, Hilda.

Catheryn G.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time on Saturday for lunch. We loved the chips and salsa! That salsa was to die for. Some of the best salsa I've ever had. And the chips were quality chips. I ordered the tacos al pastor. They were pretty good, but not the best al pastor I've ever had. The flour tortillas they give you are fresh and those were very good as well. We tried a margarita on the rocks and I found it to be a little too sweet for my liking. Excited to go back sometime and try some other dishes.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Wow this was pleasant surprise. The salsa was flavorful and chips were light and crunchy. The breakfast tacos were great. The eggs were cooked perfectly (not over cooked and dry). The migas has lots of fresh jalapeños and the corn tortilla strips were fresh and crunchy.

Art G.

Yelp
The food here is pretty standard tex-mex. It's good. The service was incredibly slow. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Food portions are huge. Price is reasonable. The restaurant was fairly busy, and our group of 30 cyclists was the main reason for that, but we had a reservation so they knew we'd be there and when. Good tex-mex, just not very good at handling a crowd. Check it out.
