Burgers, craft cocktails, wine list, small patio, vintage vibe

"Looking for a good burger? This is the stop in East Dallas. It’s got some of the best bar food on this side of the city. The pimento cheese is a sleeper hit that comes with fried saltines, just like any Louisiana grandma would make. This is a small spot, so expect to eat elbow to elbow with your neighbors and make the most of it — it’s a great spot to make new friends." - Courtney E. Smith

"A neighborhood tavern on Mockingbird in East Dallas that remains in operation under the ownership of brothers Brooks and Bradley Anderson; its continued operation was noted as the owners step away from running their Bishop Arts bistro to concentrate on legal and real estate ventures." - Courtney E. Smith

"Opened quietly in Hillside Village and officially debuting for dinner on April 8 at 6465 East Mockingbird Lane, this neighborhood-focused tavern is the latest project from the teams behind Rapscallion, Boulevardier and Veritas Wine Room (co-owners Brooks Anderson and Bradley Anderson and chef Nathan Tate). The dining room mixes reclaimed furnishings—tables from chef Matt McCallister’s former FT33 and chairs recovered from Tim Byres’s Smoke—with exposed brick and new local artwork by Steve Lawrence featuring Texas legends like Willie Nelson, creating a cozy, familiar vibe. Drinks are a major focus, with about a dozen mostly local beers on tap, an expertly curated wine list and a full cocktail program (notable pours include a Cuban daiquiri, an Aperol spritz and a Boulevardier). The menu leans classic and comforting, highlighting a patty melt, a fried chicken sandwich called “The Long Walk,” burgers, muffulettas and kid-friendly options. The restaurant does not take reservations and opens for dinner service at 4:00 p.m." - Rachel Pinn

"A forthcoming neighborhood restaurant from the team behind Boulevardier, Rapscallion, and Veritas Wine Room is slated to open in the redeveloped Hillside Village, positioned as a key part of the project's dining lineup." - Amy McCarthy

"A new neighborhood restaurant from the minds behind Boulevardier, Veritas Wine Room, and Rapscallion, Hillside Tavern is currently under construction and has tentative plans to open by the end of February. Photos posted to the Veritas Wine Room Instagram offer a glimpse of a cozy, vintage vibe with warm woods, plenty of exposed brick, and spacious midcentury modern couches. Co-owner Brooks Anderson says the Tavern will serve “bad ass bar food,” and the beverage program will definitely include a line-up of beers on draft; if their other establishments are any indication, I expect a solid wine list and cocktail menu as well. Stay tuned for an official opening date." - Amy McCarthy
