Hilo Vibe House (Sushi & Poke)

I had such an amazing time at this restaurant! The crab rangoon and chicken karaage were absolutely incredible , fried to golden perfection, crispy on the outside and perfectly tender inside. I also tried the Hilo Pearl, and it was a refreshing and beautifully made drink. It even comes with boozy boba!! It paired perfectly with the meal and really made the whole experience feel special. The staff were so friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in. Service was fast, efficient, and full of genuine hospitality. Everything about this place, the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere, made it an easy 10/10. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

The best tasting and freshest sushi I’ve had in a long time! $10 for 10 pieces of omakase styled nigiris, I could not pass it up. The poke bowls were great too, loved the yuzu ponzu sauce option! Will be back :)

The food was amazing! I’ve been here a couple times already for their udon, and it never disappoints. This picture shows their chicken katsu curry udon. They also have a great deal going on right now - $10 omakase for 10 pieces of nigiri. I will definitely keep coming back.

the atmosphere was so amazing for pictures and the food was phenomenal. I have never had better quality sushi in the US with such a good price other than this place. Definitely a must in DC!

Call me spoiled. We've now experienced the best poke ever. We live in Rockville and we were in DC to visit Smash Records, We were hungry and we are vegetarian so poke was an obvious choice. Not only are the ingredients of the poke here very satisfying, with seaweed salad, many pickled ingredients, delicious tofu, and Hawaiian spicy mayonnaise plus many other ingredients and sauces, I mean very many, but the flavors were exquisite! We're spoiled. This is now our go-to for poke and we live 40 minutes away. Okay, worth it. We're now fans of Joint Custody records shop, Smash Records, and especially Hilo Poke & Sushi.

While I think the quality is decent, recently I ordered a chirachi and the amount of Food for the price had gotten completely out of hand. I paid 32 dollars (not including tip) for this. I will not be returning. I counted, 6 pieces of fish. really ridiculous.

I think this place changed ownership (and names and interiors) at some point in the past few months. They used to have a great, value-rich sushi happy hour with appetizers, and while the food is still good, the prices have increased by nearly 50%. This seems to be true of the poke menu as well. I know everything is expensive these days, including raw food and rent, but the new price point is just too much for me.

First time having udon and it was amazing! The staff are unbelievably kind and welcoming. Wish I lived in the area so I could go more often! The spring rolls are delicious too

I visited about a year ago and remember having a great experience. So while I was in the neighborhood last week, I decided to drop by for a quick lunch. First, the owners/staff are absolutely wonderful. They are warm, welcoming and want to make sure you're well take care of. When I dropped by, the restaurant was currently under some kind of construction so they are mostly only taking orders for carry out. I ordered the agedashi tofu and a roll with some crunch and salmon. I'm not sure what was up this time but both dishes, the fried items tasted kind of stale - like there was not crunch, just kind of soggy and chewy. It really changed the quality of each dish and made it less enjoyable. I'm hoping maybe it was just a one off experience because they make it so easy to want to come back to support and try try again. But my memory of the food quality was just not the same as my first visit last year.

I got this bowl delivered so maybe take this with a grain (or two of salt) - here we got a two protein make your own bowl with tuna and shrimp. the tuna had the weirdest, almost papery texture. flavor was fine but the texture was off. shrimp was solid and a decent portion - I absolutely loved how much ginger was added and the truffle vinaigrette was special. Definitely not a traditional poke dressing but had the perfect lightness to compliment the fish and just enough truffle to not overpower everything - pickled vegetables were quite fun, but definitely belonged more on a roasted meat sandwich than a poke bowl. - nothing objectively wrong but a very average mid bowl that left me wanting more. not a ton of flavor or especially fresh fish. fat fish is still the best poke ive had in DC

Amazing place, service, food. it's a must try! Ambiance is great too. Happy hour is incredible.

HILO is an incredible restaurant in Adams Morgan that I have the pleasure of being a regular at. They offer delicious sushi, as well as a variety of other Japanese dishes (my personal favorite is the Udon noodle soup). This is one of the best happy hour deals in DC. From 4-6PM, a wide selection of rolls, apps, and beers are all $5 (dine in only)! The sushi is always fresh, quickly prepared, and absolutely delicious. You can't go wrong with anything you order, but their salmon avocado roll is a favorite of mine. If you are looking for delicious sushi and Japanese food at affordable prices, look no further than HILO!

The food was fresh and healthy but small amoumt so we've to order more food after these dishes. The service was great, cute japanese decoration ambiance.

I get takeout from here all the time and the sushi is so good! Reasonably priced rolls compared to a lot of other sushi places in DC. Always tastes good and fresh, and I really like their Ikura.

I saw that there were other Hawaiian entrees and options here (besides poke), so I had to stop by if I'm already walking around in AdMo this past Saturday! The service here was very nice and friendly and I got my food pretty quickly (in and out within 30 minutes). PORK SAIMIN - 16 I am a huge sucker for dashi based broths. The broth was so flavorful, full of kelp and seafood base, tinge of sweetness, but it was much too salty. Like, unbearably salty. Every time I drank the broth, I would need to inhale two large gulps of water. There was a good amount of toppings in the saimin. Interesting to see lightly roasted pork and spam in noodle soups. The couple pieces of kamaboko (Japanese fish cakes) and tamago were nice touches. I love the amount of green onions they gave me (definitely not skimping here). Bokchoy provided a nice crunch. I really liked the super thin noodles (or "saimin") for its texture. Sadly, it soaked up way too much of the broth and was much too salty, so I ended up leaving half of the saimin because I couldn't keep eating it. My mouth was pretty dry for the rest of the day. Maybe it was just an off day?

I was visiting Washington, DC for a work trip and I was staying close by so I decided to walk around and find a spot for dinner and I am so glad I found this place. I had only tried Poke once before so I thought I would try it out they had a build-your-own poke option so I was able to add everything I wanted and it turned out delicious. The service was fast and attentive. They kindly answered some questions I had and prepared my food quickly. I would definitely encourage others to check this place out. Food Ordered: Build-your-own Poke Bowl -White rice -Salmon -Baby Shrimp (cooked) -Cucomber -Carrots -Edamame -Jalapeno -Radish -Garlic Miso -Avocado

Friendly place that is not too expensive, very fast, and has tons of options for Asian and Japanese food. My favorite is the tofu curry rice and Inari tofu udon but there is so much to choose from!

This place had a fantastic happy hour menu for both food and drinks. Great deals, the people serving me were very kind, and the sushi was delicious and filling.

Someone at work said they were driving over to pick up poke here so I placed an order for pickup too. I was not impressed by the price to amount ratio upon first ordering but I figured to try anyway. I'm glad I did because I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl. While I wish I could've had more in the bowl, what I surprisingly liked was the sauce. It hit home. So good that I decided to look up the entire menu to maybe try them another time and whoa! Looks like I need to come back. It's basically a Japanese food restaurant. Not like the typical poke places in DC serving poke only. I don't think I'd order the bowl for delivery cuz it would basically put the nearly $20 bowl to $30+ once you include service fees, delivery fees, and tip.

A very good restaurant with great dishes. I recently ordered the beef udon noodle bowl for takeout and it was fantastic in every way-the broth had good flavor without being too salty, there were a good amount of noodles and beef (both perfectly cooked), and many vegetables. I look forward to coming back to Hilo Poke!

If you come here to only get sushi, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! (Also it seems like their sushi is equally good) I highly recommend the Hawaiian noodles (saimin). It's so flavorful yet not heavy. I'm sincerely considering this as my number one comfort food on a rainy day, sick day, or after holiday eating spree! Salmon ochazuke (salmon over rice, bathed in green tea) is just what I expected and how it should likely taste like when it's done right. Go try it first without the wasabi and then rub and dissolve half of the wasabi they provide in the dish. Now you got almost two different food! I would be excited to try more of their hot dishes and raw fish items in the future!

Good sushi at a reasonable price! Salmon avocado was quite good but the spicy crunchy tuna was a little odd. The tuna didn't seem to be the freshest and the arrangement was different. But overall good and will order again!

came and there was no wait for a table (can be expected at 1pm on a monday) i ordered a Hawaiian dream bento box for $19.95. got water immediately and a menu. not the most food from a bento box that i've ever seen, but i was still full by the time i was done. not too bad of pricing considering this is washington, d.c.

Stopped in for a takeout order! A nice small spot in Adams Morgan. The space struck me as very fresh and clean. The fish in my poke bowl was really fresh! There were various seating options and it would be nice to come back when they are open for seating. I got the one protein option (with salmon) and the price was $13. I built my own bowl and it was pretty easy to do as takeout because I just filled out a paper with my chosen toppings and handed it to hostess.

Delicious karaage, poke, and sushi! Can make modifications if needed. Friendly, quick service. Highly recommend if you're looking for a straightforward spot in AdMo that won't disappoint.

Very disappointing to have been charged $28 for 8 small pieces of fish and 2 pounds of rice. Not respectable at all. The fish itself wasn't bad, but as you can see, a quarter of the surface was just ginger and wasabi. Doesn't match their photo at all.

Soooo good! Been looking for a good poke place and I think I've found it. I got the spicy Hawaiian w salmon and tuna I believe, and the fish was so fresh and clean tasting. Great toppings selection so I didn't feel the need to make my own bowl, but definitely trying that next time. Manager was very nice and attentive, will be coming back!

It was a easy online order and pickup,the sushi was fresh and miso soup was warm when I picked it up and had no issues.The sushi rice was or other best part of the sushi ,salmon was smooth and tasty.The soup definitely homemade and authentic.I Weill definitely be coming back for more sushi

I went to their opening party and everything was so good. After that I was a bit hesitant- without a street level entrance- were they getting enough business to keep up the quality of the poke? Yes. It's so good. The make-your-own poke bowl doesn't skimp on ingredients, and the fish (I get salmon/ahi tuna) is super fresh. I've gotten some of their pre-designed bowls too, always good. (Also they've usually gotten my on-line pickup order ready in about three to five minutes. ) Staff is friendly. One woman there remembered my kid's name months after meeting her !?! So sweet.

Been here 6-7 times now. Ignore the older reviews this place is awesome the sushi and poke bowls are real high quality and delicious! I love all the food I've gotten here, even tried the miso soup tonight for the first time and it was Awesome. Great place for dates, friends or solo dinners

Food was delicious- nice blend of tang and mango. And the protein choices and flavors great too. Bigs cheers to the staff-- kind,helpful and actually happy to be there working which says a lot in this crazy chaotic world. I'll take smiles with my yummy food!!!

The food was amazing and the people there was great. The server even brought us tai tea so we can taste it and brought us all miso soup on the house. We will return tomorrow

Terrific little sushi and poke joint. We walked in and were greeted enthusiastically by the owner, who took our order and explained that they only had one beer to offer because of distribution problems, then let me taste the most interesting IPA I've ever had. A Muay Thai IPA made in Jessup, MD, that tastes like it has fresh iced tea as part of its recipe. We ordered one for each of us, ordered two roll platters and a poke bowl and watched as other customers filed in and were greeted as long-lost friends. Food came, everything was good. As we paid the bill my son asked where he could find the beer in a market. Here!, the owner replied, and brought him another can to take home for free. Good restaurant. Good businessman.

I did a pickup order during COVID. The shop is small, with the pickup items sitting on a table next to the open door. No one was there so I felt a little awkward grabbing the paper bag with my name on it. Otherwise, even after a 30 minute wait the food was good. I chose the Spicy Hawaiian poke bowl, which ended up being over $17. It was acceptable, with nothing I would really change but nothing I would look forward to again. The rest of the menu looked pretty expensive which is why I went with poke, but it is in a hot location! I'll have to give this place a second try to see if the experience is the same!

Long live the sushi bowl. So much more than a spicy tuna roll this bowl packed in so much flavor and texture that it made me question, would I ever go back!!! Mine had tuna and salmon with peppers and avocado plus the best sushi rice in DC. An outstanding meal. I will be back to try out one of their other bowls.

My faveeee for $$ sushi in the city, honestly a hidden gem. They have a big menu but I always get basic nigiri and rolls. I also visit like once a month at least lol and the quality is super consistent. The servers are so sweet, too! Don't sleep on this spot!!!!

This place has become my go-to for comfort sushi in the area, and by "comfort sushi" I mean inauthentic rolls that taste so dang good! I always get the Playboy: it's saucy, crispy, with salmon and shrimp tempura, and pretty filling! The rolls arrive perfectly every time and since Hilo opens, every other Americanized sushi place has been disappointing. My only "complaint" about Hilo is that they tend to close pretty early (730pm or so).

My brother in law is from Hawaii and was super excited to get himself lunch here when he and my sister visited--they couldn't stop talking about how nice the staff were, so when I was craving sushi, I decided to order takeout and it lived up to my family's hype! Great combinations and followed my special instructions!

A casual sushi joint with a lot of variety. I came for their VIP event on opening day, and tried different poke bowls, nigiri, and rolls. They offer a ton of poke bowl options - my favorite is anything with salmon. The rolls are also delicious, but a bit on the pricier side. For the location, it's to be expected. What I didn't expect was the amount of fish in the rolls! I was really pleased, and hope the amount stays consistent in the future. The owners were also very kind. It's nice to have another quality casual sushi place on 18th.

My boyfriend ordered $60 of sushi/poke on Uber Eats and I went to pick it up. When I arrived they said someone already picked it up. We went back and forth for 30 minutes before they finally agreed to remake my order. The $30 Hawaiian Classic poke bowl was insanely small. Even with several roles it was not nearly enough food for 2 people for dinner.... I feel like I was ripped off because they were upset someone picked up my first order? Like retaliation or something? Idk but I would never want to go back now :(

Wow, so good! I'm not experienced with Poke but I loved this. the Spicy Hawaiian is a fun and we'll balanced combo of ingredients in not used to seeing together. Only complaint was that there weren't too many macadamia nuts in my bowl. The decor is also really fun an uplifting and the staff was friendly.

Way better than any chain poke I've had. With great serving sizes for the price. Very fresh fish 10/10 will be returning.

Came in for lunch on a Saturday. The staff was incredibly friendly. We got two poke bowls. They were very nicely put together, great sauce, and had a generous amount of topping. We also got salad and spring rolls which were also very good. The people really love what they're doing here, and it shows. Would highly recommend.

This poke was overall fine but left a bit to be desired. The ordering and pickup were seamless, but for the price the toppings were a bit lacking compared to other poke places. The salmon in one of our bowls was also cut a little sloppily with some fat included. I am unlikely to order from here again.

Long anticipated, Adams Morgan finally has a poke place, and it's good. I got the Rainbow Sushi Roll and the Rainbow Poke Bowl too! Both were excellent. The service was super friendly. The restaurant atmosphere is casual but very clean and welcoming. It's healthy 'fast food' and I'll be coming back with my daughter. I'll be a regular here.

I'm a fan. The place looks cool and is fast, but not cheap. Expect to pay at least $15 for your meal. Given that, I love that you can make your own bowl and that the price includes so many toppings! And we are happy to pay up since my fiancé has celiacs and they offer a lot of gluten free options that are well labeled on the menu. They also have sushi and sushi burritos! This place is a great addition to Adams Morgan. Hope it's here for the long haul.

This Poke place is next level. Had lomi lomi salmon bowl, d.lish; fish was good quality. Three friends enjoyed their meals as well. Some of their signature bowls include fish such as snapper and hamachi, and there is a tofu option for vegetarians too. Staff was friendly and interior was modern and clean.

Consistently good sushi every time I come here. Are usually do the semi with sushi rice on the side. Even the sushi rice is delicious. Great sushi very fresh and very friendly.

We got two poke bowls - one spicy and one mild Hawaiian and they were soo good!! There were so many toppings in the bowl that blended perfectly together and adequate amount of fresh tuna and salmon. I've never had macadamia nuts in a poke bowl before or fresh mangoes - but both were delicious in the bowl. The place itself was super clean and hip - it was nice getting something healthy in AdMo. Will be coming back again!
