During my recent stay at Hilton Anatole, I was disappointed to find that the hotel fell short of my expectations in several key areas. Despite its reputation as a premier destination for conferences, I found the hotel to be overpriced, outdated, and underwhelming. Just as a heads up, I did not pay for the room.
Upon arriving at the hotel's main entrance, I was met with indifference from a front desk employee who barely acknowledged my presence. As I asked if this is the correct entrance, he did not even lift his eye to look at me. This lack of warmth and hospitality was not a promising start to my stay. The actual check-in process was efficient. But, the room styles are in dire need of a renovation. The decor and furnishings were dated and unappealing, and it felt like stepping back in time.
The problems with my room did not end there. Thin walls and poor sound insulation meant that I could hear everything happening outside my room, including doors opening and closing at all hours of the night. The bathroom was cramped, with the door, toilet, and bath all uncomfortably close together. I was also shocked to see that the bathtub was already yellowed before I stepped into it, which is definitely a clear sign of poor maintaining. To make matters worse, the toilet in my room was constantly running throughout the day, whether or not it has been flushed. At least flushing was functional. This was a nuisance and also a concern for water conservation for the hotel.
Furthermore, some of the towels provided did not appear to be clean, which was disconcerting.
In addition to the issues with the room, the amenities provided were subpar, especially given the high prices charged by the hotel. I experienced sparks coming from the outlet while charging my phone, which was concerning for safety reasons.
As someone attending a conference, I was disappointed by the quality of the food on offer. Breakfast options were limited and uninspiring, with only the hash potatoes and fruits standing out as noteworthy. Lunch was similarly underwhelming, the romaine lettuce and dressing was my favorite parts. I guess dessert was ok, but how can someone mess up sugar?
The most shocking part, I was extremely disappointed with the lack of hygiene and safety measures in place at the hotel. During lunchtime, I witnessed a conference attendee accidentally drop one of the tongs used to grab food. To my dismay, an employee picked it up from the ground and placed it back onto the plate for others to use without even washing it. This is not only unhygienic but also a potential health hazard, and it's unacceptable that such practices were taking place.
Additionally, I was surprised to learn that conference attendees were required to pay an extra $25 fee to access the pool and other amenities, which felt like an unnecessary and unwelcome additional cost.
However, I must note that the conference areas were a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster stay. The conference rooms were well-appointed, spacious, and had good sound and video quality. The screens were clear and easy to read, and the overall setup of the space was conducive to productive work and collaboration.
Overall, I found my stay at Hilton Anatole to be a disappointment. The hotel's outdated decor, poor amenities, and lackluster food options made it feel like a budget hotel. If you are looking for an even ok experience to match the budget of this place, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
I think it is priced at over $200.
