Granted, this HGI is brand spankin' new so from a property point of view 5* for sure for comfort, decor and ammenities, but service and cleanliness rank high on my ratings scale and this HGI (in my humble opinion) have some work to do on both.
Start from my arrival experience, I arrived late and the front desk clerk who greeted me acknowledged I had checked in with digital key, so she explained to me about the $15.00/ day parking fee and gave me two complementary bottles of water (no bag), which made them awkward to carry with the other bag I had with me, and she forgot to give me my breakfast coupons, which I too forgot because it was late and I was tired.
On to the room, very contemporary in decor including a laminate wood flooring, but while yes this looks very nice, the truth is if you are on any floor other than 6, be prepared for a lot of noise coming from the room above you. I think "Big Foot" was staying above me in 638, not that they were probably doing it on purpose, but walking on laminate flooring on a multi story building framed in wood, is not what most would consider noise resistant. Fortunately, "Big Foot" was not in the room all that much and was not up at all ours of the night pacing back and forth over me!
The room was quite clean except one pet peeve of mine which is to be provided clean towels and in general practice (mainly from my experience at being a road warrior) I always check bath towels in hotels before using them. Why you ask? Well, let's put it this way the hotel housekeeping staff always seem to let a few go by and this time one of the bath towels in room 538 was no different leaving it complete with someone else's hair in it (ugh)!
Note to HGI Manager: Please make sure your housekeeping staff or laundry contractor does a better job at checking the cleanliness of bath linens please!
Overall the room was nice, large TV screen with lots of channels to choose from and a comfy bead and sofa with a good size ottoman. The desk area was adequate and the desk chair was ergonomic and felt great working at the desk. But rolling around on the floor, I felt bad for whoever was in 438 because I'm sure my every rolling movement was amplified in the room below mine, sorry about that 438!
Here again to poor service, in the breakfast area, seemed like there were not enough tables for the volume of guest rooms in the hotel. All the tables were filled both mornings I ate there and there was a bt of a wait to get one. I think they can put a few more tables in the morning on the patio just off the dining area, would be nice. Also talk about lack of service. The wait staff in the breakfast were not attentive at all, in face the first day I was never approached or acknowledged the entire time I ate my breakfast. The second day was a bit better (but not by much), some additional training and management oversight is a strong recommendation here to the HGI Manager too!
Parking was adequate and I did not have any issues using my digital key on my mobile phone except that from time to time it took a bot longer then I expected for it to upload onto my phone, thus keeping me waiting at the elevator for it to open the access to go upstairs.
There are definitely lots of Hilton Family properties to consider in the Burbank/ LA area; would I stay at this HGI again... maybe but I will definitely also consider the many others before booking here again.
