Himalaya Vegan Organic Restaurant

The five of us came here to eat on Sunday late afternoon. We ordered plates of the set menu and added toppings to the soup. The food tasted like a warm and healthy home cooked meal. The pie was colorful and delicious. The restaurant also serves Bánh mì sandwiches and smoothies. The staff was super friendly. People started to trickle in at dinnertime around 6pm.

I decided to support this vegan business on my last trip to San Diego. I ordered the large plate, plus Himalayan pie hoping I'd have enough leftovers for breakfast the next day. The plate was delicious and I ended up finishing it all plus the pie. Unfortunately, my hotel didn't have a microwave so I tasted the soup cold the next morning and it was very tasty. Next time I'll get the smaller plate and the chocolate or strawberry pie so I don't waste food. Service was quick and friendly. Meal came out to almost $40. I'd definitely try this place again next time I'm in town.

This is my favorite vegan restaurant to stop at on my way from SF to lake Tahoe. They offer a hearty fixed gluten free vegan meal with grains, legumes, cooked vegetables, soup and salad. They also serve tofu banh mi (not gluten free) and fresh vegetable juices and smoothies. They offer free unlimited tea with your meal. The owner and chef are super friendly and provide excellent service.

Friendly, healthful, very tasty. Staff very friendly and patient. Can order lunch plate with several items and soup. Or can order A la carte. The large is a lot of food for lunch but not much more money. Complimentary soup.

Love the food here! Veggie banh mi so good and the plate-of-the-day very delicious. Can't beat the hot tea on tap! No one does that--it warmed our hearts. Wish this place were located closer to central Sacramento instead of the outer limits of north Sac. But worth the drive. Go there! They are wonderful hard-working folks who deserve our patronage and loyalty 😋

Absolutely the best food we had in Sacramento. Everything was incredibly fresh and full of flavor — you can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. The set menu makes ordering simple, and each item was delicious and perfectly balanced. We left feeling full, satisfied, and honestly amazed. Highly recommend this place to anyone, vegan or not. Can’t wait to come back!

Seasoned beautifully, textures wonderful, and vibes immaculate! EVERYTHING on our large lunch plate (ordered as is) was delicious and cooked perfectly! The collard greens had an exquisite mushroom sauce on them and the vegetables so tender. Beet sauce on the salad tasted so fresh and bright, and the lentils/split peas were amazing in flavor! It is an understatement to say that we were very happy customers. The owner was very kind welcoming us in the first time. We're so glad we happened to search for "vegan" restaurants near us when we were coming from Sacramento airport and stumbled upon this gem! We will definitely be back for all the seasonal organic goodness! And definitely get that pie!

My husband and I rarely ever eat out as we are primarily plant based eaters and are pretty frugal when it comes to food especially considering we can make most dishes ourselves for a fraction of the cost, but after seeing the reviews here we decided to check it out. Service: Excellent! We were warmly welcomed and greeted upon our entry. The gentleman at the counter was very helpful in helping us choose a dish for our first visit and suggested a smoothie as well. From the time we entered to the time we got our food was only about a 5 minute wait (on a Friday night!). They were very prompt in their service and as a former server I was very impressed. Food: 100% worth the price (which is still a better value than most restaurants!) We both ordered the "Full Portion" which came with an assortment of sautéed veggies, brown rice, flavorful mung beans, and a delicious vegetable and navy bean soup on the side. The food was honestly better than a Michelin star restaurant we ate at a few moths ago. I can confirm this is one dish we can NOT recreate at home Ambiance: The establishment was clean and functional. They were hospitable in that they offer complimentary self-serve green tea or ice water. There was calming music and a TV playing with beautiful nature scenes. Very enjoyable! My new favorite restaurant. I can't wait to come back!

Absolutely delicious! I got the combination platter which includes all the items, and everything tasted great and left my body feeling good and healthy after. The customer service was very friendly and attentive. If your looking for more salted, sodium-rich type food you expect at restaurants, this is NOT YOUR PLACE.

January 17, 2025 One word to describe this place: "Hearty." I am not vegan but am spiritual and vegetarian. Today was my first time there. What I love about the place: 1. Simple, short menu, so they can focus on quality. 2. Organic, vegan, and depending on the choice, gluten free. 3. Whole fruit smoothies 4. Natural ingredients 5. Calm ambient background sound: mantra 6. Pleasant, welcoming, friendly shop manager/owner In some yelp reviews here, I read that some people found the food bland. In my health journey, I learned to re-calibrate my sense of taste and found that most food in the world are actually overly stimulating. At this restaurant, that was not the case, and it was not bland, but simple and pure, more natural, yet still rich in flavor. I dined inside and had the berry smoothie, Himalayan cake, and banh mi. I will be coming back to try out their main dish. A restaurant that is "hearty" is rare to come by. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who are on a health journey regardless if they are vegan, vegetarian, or meat eaters.

My visit took place about a month ago, but I still remember my excellent experience. I sought this place out after looking for a quick and healthy lunch. When I got up to the counter, the only decision I had to make was the portion size. Their entrees include a mixed variety of items. Although, the menu was a little confusing until the gentleman explained that everything is already set, just pick a size. Everything kept well together when I took my order to-go. One of my favorite items was probably the soup, very tasty and not too salty. Restrooms were clean, easy parking, but slightly difficult to get out during the lunch rush as this restaurant is nestled next to Wendy's and many were in/out of the drive-through line, no big deal though. Next time I'm in the area, this may be my "go-to" spot. #26/2024

If you're like me you're looking at the photos thinking, how can a place that serves food that looks so healthy be rated so highly? After over a year of being curious about this place and finally trying it I'll tell you why, It's because you can taste the love they put into the food. It's seasoned exceptionally well. You will feel great after you eat here. I am normally a junk food vegan and let me tell you since I first ate here about three weeks ago, I've eaten here at least 6 times. I cannot get enough of it.

I'm not vegan but I felt extra mindful today of my eats and was compelled to "find myself" (pun intended) at Himalaya for lunch in North Natomas. Tucked away behind Subway, Cilantros, and Wendy's off Northgate Boulevard is Himalaya Vegan Organic Restaurant, a small and simple vegan eatery with a rotating organic main menu and scratchmade pies. Where L&L Hawaiian used to be, find BBQ here no more. Mantra music playing in the background with imagery of the Himalayan mountain range onscreen sets the vibe. Open since May 2022, the 24-seater restaurant just had its 2-year "birthday." Order at the counter, and start with the soup. Water and tea are self-serve. Super friendly owners, great heartfelt service. Their backstory is fascinating (former Tibetan Buddhist monk, chef in Europe then the East Bay Area at Shangri-La Vegan before moving to Sacramento). Although you can order a la carte items, the combination plate in either the "moderate/medium" or "full/large" portion size meal is most common, and get six separate vegetarian dishes. These always include a green salad, a grain, beans, vegetables, sauteed greens, and a bowl of soup (which seemed like more than just a cup to me). Their food is plant-based, macrobiotic, organic, sugar-free, gluten-free, uses very little [olive] oil, and can even be made SOS-free (SOS = salt, oil, sugar) with advance request. The menu changes twice daily, once at lunch and again at dinnertime. Lunch menus are posted on their website around 9:00 AM, and dinner menus should be posted around 3:30-4:00 PM if you want a heads up. Other than complimentary water and hot tea, there is also kombucha (Lev's 16oz bottles) and fresh juice for purchase. Vegan pie by the slice is available for dessert! Flavors: coconut, chocolate, key lime, Himalaya. On my 5/8/24 visit, the lunch menu was: Soup - French lentil with vegetables Whole Grain - long grain brown rice Bean - great Northern (large white) beans (onion, ginger) Leafy Greens - sauteed collard greens, kale (onion, shiitake mushroom sauce) Salad - salad mix with red beet, lemon, agave-based dressing Vegetable - baked butternut squash, kabocha squash, and yam (ginger) Since it was my first visit, I only went for the "moderate" portion. This was filling, fresh, and tasty. Chili oil, sesame seeds, and other seasonings are provided at each table should you need them. The soup, salad, and beans were solid, but my highlights/favorites were that mushroom sauce on the tender greens and all of the baked squash! Kabocha was more earthy, yams sweet, and butternut the subtlest. Yum. Cleaned off my main plate (now that I know what the "moderate" looks like in real life), and could not leave without trying the dessert! I asked what he suggested, and decided on the Himalaya vegan pie which had all of the flavors in one slice! Sweetened with agave, the key lime, strawberry, chocolate, and coconut went well together, each bite smooth and refreshing. The pie shell is made of almond-pecan paste and shredded coconut. Can't remember if I heard about this place from local foodies' social media, the Sacramento magazine, or the Bee article, but I'm glad I stopped in! Simple and clean when you want to eat the rainbow in peace. Open 7 days a week, 11:00 AM-8:00 PM. Two single-stall bathrooms, clean. Parking lot in the back. Om mani padme hum

I tried the banh mi and I would stick to the plates. The bread wasn't good. And I can see that it could be good but the one I had was not and now I've found that the grass is not greener on the other side and plates are where it's at.. And I had the G-Bom Soup and I thought it was the same soup you get with the plates but I don't remember ever getting raw onions in my soup. G-Bom had raw red onions. It wasn't for me.

This restaurant is an amazing find. Where else can you go that serves healthy wholesome fresh organic food? There is a set menu which includes a plate with 5 items on it, a delicious soup, and a hot tea. Apparently, the menu changes daily. Yesterday, the main dish had some root vegetables (beets, carrots), chickpeas, collard greens, salad, and rice. Everything was seasoned extremely well -- this chef is really great! We also tried the key lime pie which was only lightly sweetened with agave. I can't wait to come back to try the food another day. And maybe a different pie as well. I am not vegan, but you don't have to be to love this food. But bring your vegan friend who will love you forever!

Fantastic food and service. I cannot express how grateful we are to have found a restaurant that truly understands the importance of organic, minimally processed, nutritious food. Food offerings vary daily, and you get a plate filled with an abundance of colorful foods with a variety of flavors. Restaurant ambiance is casual and peaceful - love the mantra music that plays in the background. Huge thank you to Sam for your dedication to quality food in a culture/food environment that often sacrifices quality for quantity and cost.

As a vegan, finding new vegan places is a mission but i can say the food here was so delicious and everything tasted fresh! It brought me back to eating outside of United States. I'm so happy I stopped by here! The two gentlemen greeted me as soon as I walked in and were so kind and they helped me with understanding the menu. You get to choose between two size plates. One small and one large. I chose the small since I been eating to much lately. At first, I was tasting everything and since i have been eating a lot of salty foods lately my taste palette has been off. Once I began enjoying my food, all the flavors started to combine together. Everything was just so delicious! It brought me joy to eat my greens! The rice and beans were so flavorful, and the greens were nicely well cooked. The coconut pie was really nice and not overly sweet. Tasted fresh and refreshing. The place itself has plenty of parking. And is nice and relaxed inside. They play music which is calming. I definitely recommend coming here. I will be back again.

What a fabulous find! Great food, unpretentious, warm and friendly service. My wife and I were looking for a vegetarian or vegan restaurant for dinner while passing through Sacramento on I-80. We found this place, and are glad we did. Simple, delicious food, nice variety of flavors. We'll be back!

Got 2 full portion lunches to go. (Note: They don't show it on their menu, but there is a reasonable $1 charge per lunch for takeout.) I prefer spicy and heavily flavored food, so I knew that I wasn't going to love this served as is. I added chili flakes to some of the items, which helped. I still felt a lack of spices and flavoring. I did enjoy the carrot lemon agave dressing on the mixed salad, but I wished it had a bit more than just greens. I felt the steamed cabbages, carrot, and zucchini were quite oily, as if they were stir fried in a lot of oil, rather than steamed. My husband thought the pinto beans with onion ginger was very well cooked, and tasty. He enjoyed the entire meal, since he appreciated the flavor of the veggies, along with the subtle flavors of the sauces. We were both a bit surprised with the soup. Our expectations from the name did not match the actual food. Perhaps they should add the word 'pureed' so you know you won't be getting any actual beans or vegetable pieces, just liquid soup with not much flavor. I'm rounding up to 4 from 3.5, because I very much appreciate their concept of using locally grown, organic vegetables. I'm quite sure my husband would return, but I'm uncertain.

I happened to be in the Natomas area looking for a Vegan Restaurant. Two of us had lunch here and enjoyed the delicous, nutritional and peaceful food. The service and portional were generous. Next time in the area I will definitley eat here again. Truely Vegan Food.

I've had this place on my list since it opened. Now that I've tried it, my only regret is not coming in sooner. The entire menu, influenced by a Macrobiotic Diet, is vegan, sugar free and gluten free so you'll feel energized after eating one of their perfect plates. The menu changes daily so that the chef/owner, a former Buddhist monk, can use locally sourced foods that are in season. You just have to choose which size plate you want then wait for them to serve you. They also have a juice menu, Kombucha, and desserts. If dining in, they offer complimentary water and some yummy hot tea. All plates come with soup to start, the day we were there it was lentil based and delightfully satisfying. Our plate was made up of five items: garbanzo beans, collard greens, roasted veggies, salad and a grain. Although, the plate looked simple, it provided a vibrant palette of textures and flavors. The lentils and veggies were beautifully prepared and it was all so perfectly seasoned. Every bite made me happy and nourished my soul. Don't let the strip mall location confuse you, this is a true gem serving up plates of local whole foods that are healthy comforting and tastes like a home-cooked meal. We need more places like this in Sacramento especially in Midtown. No fake processed meat or junk food vegan items on this menu. As for ambiance, it's a low key, order at the counter style of place that looks very clean and is chef-owned and operated. They seem to have a great take out business and several regular repeat customers. I love the story of the owner's journey from Buddhist Monastery to a 5-star hotel in Europe to a vegan restaurant in the Bay Area and finally to Sacramento. Feel grateful that Chef Sam and his in-law/best friend set up shop here b/c this is now one of our newest favorite places in Sacramento. My husband and I usually don't leave our little bubble of Midtown, but we will definitely become regulars here. Simplistic, soul-satisfying, real food.

My favorite restaurant in Oakland, now one in Sacramento, but with a larger menu! I thoroughly recommend this establishment. They also have bottled kombucha in many different flavors and vegan Banh mi sandwiches.

I really wanted to love this place but, nope. No seasoning, no salt. The veggies were half raw and half overcooked. The salad dressing was tasty but, there was just the titiniest drizzled on a mound of greens. I don't even no what the soup was. It was really runny and orange with no distinguishable flavor. I don't usually right reviews but, food is getting so expensive that I really want to get what I pay for.

First time here since this used to be the old L & L Hawaiian barbecue restaurant. This place has primarily vegetarian and gluten-free options which I loved. We started off with the soup which was tasty. There was only a small or large plate so I opted for two large plates and ordered all the desserts since it's gluten- free. Ambiance is chill and casual. It's half cafeteria style where you order and pay for your food then seat yourself and they bring food out. Food tastes fresh and I love it that it's all gluten free but not much variety of food. You only get choice of small or large plate for main entree. Both are same: just depends on how much you want. I got all the dessert options to try and it was not too sweet. Had custard type of flavor. Place is clean and the owner are nice. The food is filling but if you are a meat eater, this is not the place for you.

I started to go plant-based whole food diet and minimizing my meat and highly processed food...but it's cumbersome to cook...and healthy food at that...I was looking for a place where I can find clean and healthy meal. That one fateful day I felt like eating subway, with only veggies and sauce on my footlong, I stopped in this area...this restaurant caught my attention! Vegan?! I abandoned my subway plan and tried Himalaya Vegan Organic Restaurant and the rest is history. I have been coming here for almost 2 years...every day dinner meals. The owner and employee are very nice and accommodating! It's the best vegan restaurant in Sacramento! Please go and check it out for yourself...

VEGAN VEGAN VEGAN !! I know the name says it but just want people to know their entire menu is strictly vegan..........and it is OUTSTANDING!! Although the menu is small, the flavor is fulfilling and delicious. I came across this beautiful hidden gem on doordash as I was searching for something healthy to eat. I ordered the moderate plate which consisted of the following soup: a little bland but still tasty. I added some black pepper, white pepper & truffle salt. salad: not sure what the dressing was, but i enjoyed it very much beans: not overly salty and my favorite part of the plate rice: lightly seasoned and delicious when paired with all other items on the plate vegetables: very very good. loved the flavor and texture callard greens: did not think i would like these but they were delicious the moderate plate was an excellent serving for one person Also got a slice of their key lime cheesecake which was incredibly and deliciously lush and tart. I will 100% be ordering from here again.

Always excellent, consistently prepared food that will warm your belly. You never have to guess with this place, it's always going to be great. The chef has a very small menu with simple, delicious food- that's all you need. Even if you're not vegan, consider this place because the food is actually filling. Service is fast and friendly- I love coming in because people seem genuinely happy to have me there. You won't get that kind of service with any of the surrounding chain Restaurants. Btw, this place is simple but very clean, you can tell this place is taken after with care.

Just lovely!! Nutritious and delicious, my favorite combination. The veggies were all fresh and alive. The basil lemon agave salad dressing was so vibrant and yummy I wanted to drink it. We got the pineapple celery ginger juice. It was delightful. Everyone who worked there was welcoming, and looked so healthy too :) oh and the dessert! We had the Himalayan layer chocolate, coconut, strawberry key lime pie. So pretty and tasty!

Love this place!!! I thrive on the meal which includes bowl of soup and plate of food. New menu items include sandwiches and smoothies. I loved the grilled tofu, raw vegetables, and mushrooms on the sandwich. The service is impressive and super accommodating with grace and care. The ambiance is very peaceful and I love the relaxing music.

Masterfully simplistic. Delicious. We are far from vegan and thought everything was quite tasty. Would definitely eat here again especially since the menu changes daily. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food and portion. Ironically we got our food faster than anyone in the Wendy's drive-thru next door.

I've been meaning to come here since they opened! Today I was in the neighborhood and first thing that came to mind was this place! I'm so glad I stopped! I'm always down for trying new places, especially when they're in my general area. I wasn't certain what to make of this place. They're located in what most locals consider a bad strip mall location. Navigating through a super tight lot, let alone parking can be a nightmare. Frankly, I was excited to spend time with a good friend, and who doesn't like a good food adventure?!? I'm going to spoil the end of my review by saying neither of us did. The restaurant offers one meal in two different sizes. We both ordered the moderate plate ( smaller version). I'm still shaking my head about only offering one meal. Maybe I'm slightly spoiled by some of the vegan restaurants that I've been to in the past, but I can definitely say that if this had been my first experience trying vegan food, it absolutely would be a reason for me never to want to try it again. It's also perplexing that this newly opened restaurant has so many five star ratings. You order at the counter, and they bring your meal to you. There's no need for a menu sense as I mentioned they only offer one meal. I guess I'm picky, because I actually would like to know what I'm eating. They do have a darkened board at the counter on the wall that scrolls the names of the items on the plate. It was more fun for us to play guess what this is... The meal started with a bowl of soup. It arrived called and not super tasty. I made it through not quite a half a bowl, and I just wasn't able to finish it. It was fairly watery, and lacked taste, seasoning, something to make me want to eat more and actually enjoy it. The actual meal arrived moments later, and I'm sure the disappointment was evident on my face. With the exception of a tablespoon of sautéed vegetables, the food was bland, and super disappointing. The kale greens, along with the other items were lukewarm at best. If this had been a blind taste test, other than texture, there was no way to decipher one part of the meal from the other. There wasn't a whole lot on the plate, and I definitely did not become a member of the clean plate club. I'm pretty certain that neither of us will be returning, and again I'm perplexed as to some of the ratings. If you have a desire to try great vegan food, this isn't that place.

Certainly one of the best soups ever! Their food is simply amazing and if you are in the area or driving by on the 80fwy and want an incredible mean then don't miss it! Love this healthy food restaurant!

This place was the best part of my work trip to Sacramento! Everything was absolutely delicious and didn't leave me feeling heavy. The flavors were so subtle but tasty. The Himalayan pie is unlike anything I've ever had! Sooooo delicious! The customer service is exceptional, the owners are so welcoming and friendly. I have discovered by healthy and delicious go to spot in Sacramento!

The food is always great and you never have to make a choice because there's only one meal option a day. I've never had a bad meal and they even make beets taste good. They are also super friendly and welcoming there. Highly recommended.

This place is just delicious good for your soul food!!!! We are not vegetarian or vegan but enjoy good food. You can taste natural good for you flavor's. Different meal everyday no menu to pick from either large or medium. They also sell fresh made to order juices! They also have kombucha and vegan desserts.

I am not vegan, but find myself wanting to return to this restaurant time and time again because the food is so flavorful, delicious and healthy. This place is a hidden treasure and I hope more people discover it. The sauce/gravy on the greens is particularly tasty and contrasts nicely with the dressing on the salad.
