Wow! That was so good! We loved the complimentary rice bread and radishes and the pork belly appetizer! We also shared the yak set plate which was nice and the puri puri which were spicier than expected, but lots of flavor. We want to come back!

Google
Great Nepali spot in the neighborhood. We had chicken momo, chicken chowmein, and grilled wild boar. Momo and Boar were really good, chowmein was decent as well. My biggest feedback for this restaurant is to please keep your wines in a cool(er) place. My husband and I both had a glass of wine each, and it was very warm, not even room temperature. The taste of the wine was fine, it was just the temperature that threw us off. We live very close to the restaurant, so we look forward to trying more things!

Google
Get the sukuti sadheko, crispy yak chili, and roasted yak. Note the acoustics are difficult even when it's not loud, so a large table is not going to have a single unified conversation

This restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and special occasions. The service was top-notch — polite, quick, and helpful. Every bite of the meal was bursting with flavor, and the ingredients tasted so fresh. I especially loved the attention to detail in the presentation. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

I visited this restaurant expecting authentic Nepali or Desi food, but I was highly disappointed. The food was not up to the mark—especially the butter chicken, which tasted stale and looked unappetizing. What shocked me even more was the behavior of the staff when I requested a receipt. Initially, they refused to provide one. Only after insisting multiple times did they reluctantly give me a vague breakdown—still without a proper receipt. I discovered hidden service charges and even tips already included in the bill, which was never disclosed upfront. The staff's attitude was arrogant and unprofessional throughout the conversation. I even asked for a refund due to the poor quality of food, but they refused. To make matters worse, I’ve attached a picture of the butter chicken I was served—you can clearly see how bad it looks. This kind of practice is unacceptable. I strongly advise others: if you do visit, always ask for a receipt and check the breakdown carefully. Personally, I would not recommend Himalayan Wild Yak to anyone.

I recently had an amazing dining experience at this place. The staff were very hospitable and welcoming, especially hostess and also the chef. The resturant decor was very elegant, clean. Service from Dipak was great. The menu had a wide range of vegetarian options and perfectly cooked meat dishes that were very tasty. We ordered Omlets, Spicy momo's, Chicken Sekuwa, Spicy nuts & Biryani. Chicken was delicious and perfectly complemented the spicy sauces and scrumptious meats. We ordered Old fashined, Manhattan, & Amilo piro. All drinks were amazing. The portions were generous and perfect for sharing with friends, making it an ideal spot for a night out. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable culinary experience.

Google
Beautiful interior and exterior design. The food was unique and delicious. The staffwas very kind. Keep in mind the dish with just yak was very chewy and not tender. The yak in the biriyani was delicious. Lamb appetizer was good along with the chicken. Loved the rice circles they brought out they were very delicious.

What a fantastic dining experience! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The staff was courteous and professional, and the menu had a great variety to choose from. The food was mouthwatering — fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The environment was clean and stylish, making the entire visit enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves quality food and great service!

Yelp
Stopped by for Impromptu dinner & it was worth it . Chef Kishore gave us personal service & made sure he delighted us in every way. What we ate: Sel Roti , veg & chicken momos with jhol , noodles + veg Manchurian & special Goat gravy made by Chef , dessert - Kurauni

Yelp
I saw this place mentioned in a news article (think it was either in The New York Times or The Washington Post?), and the writer highly recommended it. I'd never had yak, so I thought I'd give it a shot to see if it lived up to the hype from the article. I got the yak korma...and it was amazing. The korma was easily the best I've had from a restaurant: the flavor was wonderful; the spice level was just right; and the consistency and texture were spot-on. After ordering and tasting it, I'm converted to yak. I'll still often do my default of paneer, but yak has supplanted beef in my meat hierarchy. It's nice to know that yaks have a much smaller climate impact than cows by virtue of requiring less pasture, more efficiently using energy, and excreting less methane. I ordered carryout, so I can't really comment on the ambiance beyond the brief time I was there to get my order. The eating area looked well-appointed and comfortable. Rocky the Yak was a sight to behold! The gentleman who welcomed me and who retrieved my order was very courteous and professional. Rocky was silent but majestic. I really recommend giving this restaurant a try!

Yelp
I only did a quick drop in to eat some of my friend's food while they were dining in ---and what I had was absolutely delicious! The portions were nice and the food was flavorful. They have committed fully to their theme of the wild yak and it makes for interesting decor as well. The service was friendly and helpful, as they were supportive in us joining our friends to help finish up their food. I do plan to return the next time I'm in the area to try my own meal! The yak biriyani and the chicken kabob were highlights this time around!

Evan P.

Yelp
From the bread and pickled vegetables they brought to the table when we first sat down to the grill yak, everything was delicious. Wonderful service and ambiance too. A real winner for Brambleton.

Greg N.

Yelp
The palak paneer and butter chicken are the best I have ever had. Love this place. My family goes there often.

Judy T.

Yelp
Did not have eating yak on my bingo card for my visit to VA. Damn it's great! We had the yak dumplings, I think called momo (so tasty and packed a flavor punch) and a few set meals of yak and lamb curries with veggies and dal. Also had butter chicken (EXCELLENT) and nan bread. Everything was delicious. The service was exceptionally DELIGHTFUL. It's a big lively fun place that I hear is usually slammed busy. Pretty mellow last night and we had a great time.

Yelp
I walked in there were two gentleman serving the main areas and working the bar area. The gentlemen were kind and polite. The restaurant appears clean there are TVs on in the background to watch movies (they played the Beekeeper). The food did not take long to come out but everything was fresh and delicious! If you really like Kale then get the kale salad, I love the presentation and the flavors but I think I don't like Kale as much as I though I did, the flavors were really interesting but I just got it because I seen the reviews. Despite me not liking the salad the lady next to me appeared to love it so don't take my word for it on the salad I recommend trying it and see if you like it. Everything else was absolutely delicious and I plan on stopping by for dinner more often.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with some family for a late-ish dinner, around 8:15 (they close at 10). We parked in a free public garage around the corner but there's also street parking. We walked in and it there was around a 15 minute wait for a table. The decor was nice and I loved the huge yak that people could take pictures with up front. We got seated sooner than estimated and the dining room was still pretty full. We started with drinks. Got the Khukuri, Fragrant Lavender, Himalayan Mule, and a Smokey Old Fashioned. My drink was the Khukuri which was refreshing and not too strong. Loved the presentation of the Smokey Old Fashioned with the cloche. Pretty much everyone at the table loved the drinks. For food we got the Bhuteko Aalu, Crispy Pork Belly, and the Yak Momo to start. The Bhuteko Aalu was super flavorful and had a nice kick. The pork belly skin had a great crispiness. The Yak Momo were of a great size and very meaty. The sauce that came with went great. For our entrees we got two orders of Braised Short Yak Ribs and the Yak Korma. We also added on naan because it was necessary. The short yak ribs were so tender and flavorful. The korma was so creamy but had huge tender chunks of meat (lots of tender meat!). The rice was cooked perfectly and the naan was great to soak up the korma gravy. To end we got two orders of Gulab Jamun which was a great sweet finisher to the meal. This place really lived up to the hype. Great service, nice decor, and amazing food and drinks. One of the best restaurants in the county in my opinion!

Yelp
Nepalese spot with a menu that centers around Yak! I had never tried Yak before, so it was cool to see that they offered it in so many different forms, but also nice to see that they had non-Yak options as well The menu starts off with a description of Nepal and the origin of the restaurant. It also mentions that the napkins are made from material from Nepal! The meal starts off with complimentary picked radishes + a type of sweet bread that reminded me of fried dough that was dipped in honey For dinner I got the braised Yak short ribs, my GF got the yak dumplings, and we split a side of garlic naan. We were not a huge fan of the yak meat, but the ingredients were all high quality. The naan was delicious as well The restaurant itself is spacious, and there is both a bar and dining area. The staff was all very friendly as well, and the food was prepared extremely quickly

Emily M.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had in my life! Got the kale chaat (super crispy and fresh) momos (sooo flavorful) and yak korma (creamy, rich, and delicious... I will dream about this!) Came here while visiting from out of town and I'm only sad I can't come here regularly

Brenda K.

Yelp
Great food and customer service. The restaurant was willing to accommodate the request I made from the menu. I couldn't ask for more!

Sumesh N.

Yelp
Best place in Brambleton for Nepalese/Indian cuisine. You will not be disappointed. They have great selection of goat, chicken curries . They also have good selection of vegetarian curries. They are naans are to die for. And their biryani is just out of this world.

Yelp
This has got to be my absolute favorite restaurant in the entire DMV - perfect for any occasion from casual weeknight dinners to birthdays to anniversaries. The food is so delicious and authentic, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the service is top notch! I usually get the yak biryani and I have leftover for days. I also get the wild boar appetizer, crispy kale, and yak monos - so delicious and satisfying. I've brought many friends and family here over the years and they all love it and keep coming back. I whole heartedly recommend!

Yelp
Ambiance is very cozy and comfortable. Perfect for an intimate date night, group dining or casual bite. They have igloo seating outside which is nice. Service was excellent, our server provided great recommendations and was very tentative. The chicken momo, noodles and boar appetizers were delectable and so delicious! We ordered butter chicken, spicy goat curry, crispy goat, tandoori chicken, garlic naan, and crispy brussel sprouts.... WOW! So much flavor, and so much food. Cocktails were sorta pricey, but overall really good! We loved the khukuri and mango lassi overall. Those were the two top favorites after trying 6 varieties. We will definitely be back! 100% recommend.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service, good ambiance! This was my first time trying Nepalese/Himalayan food and I was mind blown at how delicious everything was! We ordered the chicken biryani with a side of rice, chow mein, yak filet, and Himalayan mule. The mule tasted a little bit like a margarita (which I don't mind!), the Yak was super tender and tasted just like buffalo, the chow mein was perfect as far as oiliness goes, and the biryani was the best I've ever had, the chicken was perfectly cooked! The server was very hospitable and had great timing for a table on a date. As far as ambiance goes, it's very family friendly, which is great for parents that want to go out, but there were a lot of children running in and out of the outdoor seating area. Overall good experience and will be back again!

Yelp
Located isn't the Brambleton shopping center, next to Regak cinemas lies a little place called Himalayan Yak. I'll get straight to the point: I ordered the Yak Biryani with a friend and damn was this such an authentic and delicious selection. Yak, basically a super rare, mountain cow, is 96% lean meat and is known for having beneficial components such as extremely low levels of palmitic acid and saturated fats. Interesting fact I learned here was that even the blood of Yak was used as medicine to the mountain people in the mountains of Nepal, Tibet, and Mongolia. This restaurant itself specializes in Nepalese cuisine but also features Indian dishes as well to the community. I love having the feeling of trying a different culture as I have been to quite a few Asian countries yet have not been to Nepal. The napkins are made of Dhaka cloth which is a national Nepalese handmade fabric and the traditional rice bread that is served complimentary, known as Selroti, was a nice touch as well. We also were served a complimentary salad called Crispy Kale Chat. It was served with a nice yogurt sauce and very much appreciated as we waited for our baked Yak served with tons of basmati rice. The service was on point and the Yak had a very similar taste to bison. You could even tear the meat apart without your knife and that tenderness was so welcomed by my taste buds. Easy 5 stars from this Yelper!

Yelp
My family and I went to Himalayan Wild Yak before we caught a movie at the nearby theaters. The space was large and well-decorated with a designated dining area separate from the bar area. The ambiance was amazing with the large paintings and high ceilings. Since we went around 5pm on a Tuesday, the restaurant was still empty and we were able to get seated very quickly. I ordered an old fashioned to go with the samosa chaat, chow mein, and momos that we had to eat. The chicken chow mein was the surprising standout dish and was gone before I could even take a picture. Of note, the happy hour is only available in the bar area, which we didn't know until after we sat down and ordered our drinks and food.

Yelp
Went back again this holiday season and it lived up to my super high expectations from last time. Delicious food, impeccable service, tasty drinks and we had a primo table for the guys to watch the soccer game on TV during happy hour.

Yelp
So, I came here with family. It was my parent's anniversary -- certainly a momentous occasion to celebrate. I had heard of the Yak restaurant, and seen it at many a passing glance. Decided to finally bite the bullet and try it out, and see if the hype was justified or not. Location is prime -- Himalayan Yak is at the heart of the Brambleton Plaza. Lots of green grass, open space, and the nearby Brambleton Park within walking distance, is a solid place to go dog-walking or just admire the scenery at. The Yak serves traditional Nepalese/Himalayan food. Seated inside. The cocktails menu is attached. For drinks, I had the Smokey Old Fashioned, which was aged bourbon maple; we also had the Himalayan Mule, which is a bit on the sweeter side, and tastes like margarita. My drink, the Ol' Smokey, came in a steamed decanter as pictured. It was a novel experience when lifting it, similar to unwrapping a gift. I enjoyed the taste, which was deep, rich, and aged. It was a sharp and distinguished taste. I would recommend sipping it alongside a dish, perhaps after spooning (and swallowing) a bite -- that way, it elevates the taste and leaves a rich, rather tantalizing buzz in your mouth, which heightens appreciation and if nothing else, makes things more interesting. For entrees, our table had the Pork Belly, and the Yak Biriyana. The donut-shaped bread arrived first, and was on the house. A complimentary appetizer -- similar to free bread at some sit-down American steakhouses, for comparison. It was pure bread though, slightly sweetened -- and came with a pickled, spicy sauce for dipping purposes. It tasted rather spot on, and was good for the price (nothing). The Pork Belly arrived next, perfectly caramelized and slightly sweet-tasting. It came with some fatty meat on it, and I had to cut part of that (the pure fat) out, as I'm not a fan of packing on weight if it can be avoided. I still consumed too much fat by myself, though. I ultimately preferred the pork belly variant that most Korean BBQ spots have, though. Lastly came the Yak Biriyani. Lot of meat, good solid protein. Consistently less fat than the Pork Belly, which is props to it. On the downside, there was not a whole lotta great taste going for it, and it rather tasted like goat to be perfectly honest. However, alongside the rice it was good, and was filling at the least. Still a solid hitter, but far from a home run. On a closing note, be sure to check the portions on the dishes. An altogether common mistake is to order one dish for each person in the party. Instead, be sure to check with the serving person about how many each dish feeds, so that you have a good idea going into it. All in all, decent food, and generous portions. I am rating up slightly due to the location, convenience, quality of service, and also the fact that it was a special occasion which was handled altogether well. I recommend stopping by if you find yourself in Brambleton or the nearby area, and need some authentic (Nepalese and Yak) cuisine to whet your appetite.

Haj R.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant for a county gathering. We were provided a variety of finger foods and cash bar. Bar service was good for the gathering. Finger foods were okay. I had the crispy pork belly and veg manchurion. Both were good. Didn't have any main courses and may have to return at a later date to try the Butter Chicken and Tandoori Chicken.

Sailesh S.

Yelp
Recommend for Chicken/pork Sekuwa, any mo:mo. Good options for drinks as well. Sukuti was okay.

Light H.

Yelp
Amazing place and very friendly staff. You have to come here and spend time. We ordered one of the best biryanis. Drinks are great too -- good selection of beer and cocktails.

Luice T.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance, a great place to take visitors or a date. I recommend the yak, I got the Nepalese sampler and it was average. Yak tastes like tender beef.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Always my favorite spot when we come home for the holidays. Chicken sekura is maybe the best chicken dish I've ever had. Great happy hour too!

Nagaraju N.

Yelp
I always enjoy visiting the Himalayan Yak. The food and service are top-notch. Don't miss the pot biryani, tandoori salmon, and chicken. Great drinks and exceptional service

Brian D.

Yelp
Just ordered the braised yak short ribs. Apparently, it was braised for 36 hours...which you would assume it would be tender. It was not, it's was so tough that I couldn't eat it. In the picture you can see me try to pull it apart and my knuckles were turning white because I couldn't.

Dennis G.

Yelp
I really hate to say this, but I fell like the quality of the food at the Yak has been sliding. When it first opened everything I ate there was amazing. I posted a great review to that affect. But since then I have been disappointed/ First, several months ago, I had the fish curry and it was a little off. The fish was not their usual fish, and they should have taken that off the menu instead of substituting a lesser quality fish. Then on another order I had the goat curry, and there were more bones than meat. Finally, I thought I would try one more time and order momos and crispy yak chili. The momos were great, but the yak was not crispy at all. But it was so tough that it was inedible. I ended up throwing it out. Yak management - watch the quality of your food. This place has too much potential to let that slide.

Nina W.

Yelp
I had no idea what to expect from a Nepalese restaurant, but the name drew me to this place and I was intrigued with what they had to offer. We went for an early dinner on Saturday night and had no trouble getting a seat. We asked the waiter for some recommendations and she pointed us to the Nepali set meal where you get a variety of different curries and get to select which protein you'd like (we opted for the fish curry) and the Yak Momo's (dumplings). Both turned out to be great selections! The dumplings were tasty and the Nepali set meal was delicious. I really loved the variety of curry flavors and it was a good mix of both vegetables and protein. Prices were both reasonable and comparable to the portion sizes for the area. I'd definitely recommend this spot if you want to try out something new. The place did get a lot busier when we left, so try to come for an earlier dinner or later lunch if possible. I definitely plan on coming back!

Yelp
Yakitty Yak, we'll be back. While staying with our brother in Aldie, VA. He wanted to introduce us to this place. I'm glad he did. My only experience with Nepalese food was the Yak and Yeti in Carlisle, PA. The servers at his place were great. They were present and attentive. We started with several appetizers - all of which were great. And I warn you these can fill you up, so one (or two) is plenty. I ordered the Wild Boar (Texas free-range hog), which was very good. It tasted great (gingery rosemary) and was presented with two smear of red and orange sauces. I also tasted the chix lo mein - small bowl of street noodles - and orange honey glazed pork belly. The impressionable thing about the latter was the size of the pork belly. We were so full from the apps, but we managed with some very good entrees. The chana masala (chickpea curry), palak paneer (spinach in cream butter), and tandoori chicken, were all good. Let's just say we were all full and happy by the end of the night. This place has a happy hour from 3-7p.m. in their bar and lounge area. I wasn't too impressed with their smoked old fashioned. The presentation was nice, but the taste was lacking. Their other drinks were very good though. Great place for any taste

Janie M.

Yelp
One of the most incredible meals my husband and I have had in a very long time. The yak biryani was so good it was indescribable. And I'm guessing it could have fed 4-6 people! Considering the amount of leftovers we took home, it was an excellent deal. The ambiance was definitely date night worthy. A must try and a new favorite!

Ericka S.

Yelp
Don't walk by this spot - run through the doors! The food is absolutely outstanding! Immediately upon walking in the door the wonderful smell of spices and smoke tempted me. My friend was already seated and there was a small rice appetizer waiting for us. We opted to both order a smoked old fashioned, which came out covered under a dome and swirling with smoke. It was amazing to watch the smoke swirl around and we left it to get nice and smokey! We ended up ordering 2 of these and they were some of the best old fashions we have had in the NOVA area. The food was great and everything had the perfect amount of spice, aroma, and was a perfect temperature. The garlic naan was a delicious option and went well with each item we ordered. The yak momos were an excellent choice and the yak tasted great. They were housemade and the shell was perfectly chewy and steamed. The meat filling was cooked to perfection. The Brussel sprouts were suprisingly tasty. The wild boar was my favorite and I liked pairing it with the naan. The marinade was perfectly seasoned. Pork belly was perfectly crispy and thick cut. We asked what desert they were known for (can't remember the name) but it was a milk that had been reduced for about 8 hours. The texture was similar to a cottage cheese that went through a blender... it was different, but tasty. Tasted like a sweet dessert. The service was also great. Servers were attentive and made very good recommendations. They were friendly and helpful! Overall, this is a hidden gem and totally worth checking out. Prices were reasonable, service was great, and food was outstanding. I can't wait to come back and enjoy it again!

Yelp
This Nepalese restaurant is great, especially if you are an adventurous meat eater. My friend and I specifically went to Ashburn to eat here based on Tom Sietsema's review and the opportunity for me to try yak and it was absolutely worth the trip. The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of spaced-out tables with tablecloths and easy to carry on a conversation. Himalayan Wild Yak's service was outstanding, one of the three best customer service experiences I have had this year at a sit-down restaurant (out of over 60 restaurants). We were seated immediately and our orders were taken quickly after the perfect amount of time to review our menus. Our server even suggested the option to have a half/half order for our momos (vegetarian and yak) which we didn't even know was an option (and much appreciated). Himalayan Wild Yak also gave us a complementary fried ring with a pickled vegetable that was extremely delicious. Our server also gave me great recommendations for my main. All dishes came out in a timely manner. This was above and beyond service, the kind of service that I was happy to give a 20 percent tip for instead of feeling obligated. My friend ordered the veggie momos and the dal with yak butter, while I got the yak momos and the yak chili over fried rice. I had a chance to try my friend's dishes, which were OK but could have been better. The veggie momos had nice spice and had an excellent sauce (same as the yak) but needed more flavor. By contrast, the yak momos were amazing. The yak was perfectly cooked and the fat and flavor was outstanding-a must-order for meat eaters. The best part of the dal was the yak butter, which I could taste and has a subtle smoky flavor; otherwise the dish needed way more spice and flavor. My yak chili was good overall-the yak was cooked in a delicious jerky style with a sweet-spicy sauce. However, I wish there was more yak meat and less rice as the proportions were way off. To top everything off, our meal was extremely affordable for what we got-$30 including tax and tip. There was also enough leftover food for another meal. A unique experience with the yak, overall good food, and a great experience combine to make Himalayan Wild Yak a must-try. I would definitely go back in a second if I am in the area again and worth the special trip.

Yelp
Food is so so good. Randomly found this spot while in Brambleton. Found out this restaurant is family owned and I believe it is Nepalese. Amazing service which is so hard to get these days. Drinks were delicious and super worth it. My ethnic food craving was happily satisfied here.

Joe H.

Yelp
Good food. A bit outside my normal range of eateries, but we'd just walked out of a movie and my head hurt (IMAX) from neck strain and loud noise. The yak chili has excellent flavor. Service was fair - polite and capable, if a bit slow. But then, the place went from almost empty to completely full within about twenty minutes of us showing up -- more movies were ending at the theater next door.

Nancy R.

Yelp
How can you hear the name Himalayan Wild Yak and not be curious?  How can you enter the restaurant and gaze upon the big stuffed yak diorama or the big painting of the yak and not smile?  This cheer will continue through your meal.  We found the service to be very helpful and the space to be airy and not too loud (thank you very high ceilings!)  There are a lot of really tasty appetizers to choose from and this is often how we put together a meal.  This time we had the samosa chat (our favorite), the crispy pork belly (really nice and crispy as advertised), chow mein noodles (also really good), momos (yum) and the wild boar (which was a little tough and probably our least favorite.)  For an entrée we all shared the rogan josh which was also very good.  I can't forget to mention the bread/donuts that they placed on the table when we arrived.  Fried and delicious - what is not to like?!  All in all, we really enjoyed our dinner and would be happy to come back.  The tables are comfortable and far enough apart and there is plenty of parking.

Yelp
WHAT a cool meal! I read reviews on TripAdvisor and they were fantastic so I took my wife 30 minutes just to try. WOW. What a beautiful atmosphere. Upbeat with plenty of super friendly people working. Extensive menu of regional indian/nepal cuisine...think Indian but with a very almost Thai bend. We ordered 4 different items just to experience as much as we could. DELICIOUS. We had a noodle dish that I am craving ever since!...not greasy...very interesting unique combination of flavors. We had a Yak in a creamy spinach sauce....wow spicy and unique flavor! Yak short ribs were REALLY tasty.... I can't wait to go back....and the whole meal was SO reasonably priced...get unique chef prepared delicious food for the price of a stamped out chain meal....

Sazna K.

Yelp
Good food. Ok service can do better. Decor excellent. The chicken momo is good. Biryani is too spicy.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Great ambiance, food, and service, wow! This was my first experience with Himalayan/Nepalese food. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had reviewed the menu prior to coming, and some of the flavors seemed similar to Indian and African restaurants that I had tried, so I was excited to come. We visited on a nice warm evening. It seemed most of the other guests were seated outside, the host seemed surprised when we asked to be seated indoors. It seemed like a good choice, we had pretty much the entire dining room to ourselves - we visited pretty late on a Saturday night - about 2 hours before closing. We were greeted soon after being seated. Our server brought the complimentary bread and vegetable to the table, and explained each one. Both were very tasty. I particularly enjoyed the pickled radish because it reminds me a lot of my favorite side dishes at Korean restaurants, but with a lot more warm tasting spices. I could eat a lot of it, often! It is very tart/sour. The fried bread was also great, however we didn't finish it because we didn't want to be too full to try our meal. We both ordered the Smoked Old Fashioned - I had read on Yelp that this was a top drink. We both LOVE bourbon and we were not disappointed. I have had several smoked old fashioned in all kinds of restaurants, including Japanese, cocktail bars, taprooms, etc. This by far was the coolest presentation I have ever experienced. Both came with little glass domes which we got to remove ourselves. This was such a cool experience and allowed you to smell that delicious smoked aroma a little longer. The bourbon was Jim Beam - definitely not my favorite Bourbon, and never really a choice for me. However- the smoking, orange peel, and thoughtful presentation really elevated this lower quality bourbon in my opinion. I would 100% order this drink again. We decided on the Butter Chicken & the Yak MoMos for the two of us to share. I had my sights set on trying Yak for the first time. We both LOVED the MoMos, and the delicious sauce that came with it. The MoMos were large, adn the portion was very generous - 4 for each of us! This plate could def be a meal on its own. The butter chicken was absolutely delicious, you can't go wrong with this choice. It had a soft, velvety texture, great flavor, and nice sized pieces of chicken. I would say the chicken piece sizes are larger than others I have had at Indian restaurants, and the price was less as well, which was awesome. The basmati rice was just perfect - and I am pretty picky on my rice. We even used some of the extra MoMo sauce on our rice because it was just that delicious! I finished my meal with a lost Rhino Beer (I'm a huge beer lover) - and I was super pleased to see a good local craft menu selection. This is a huge factor when choosing a restaurant for us - we like to support the local craft market of wherever we are visiting. This is truly a unique destination, well worth the time to travel to. I will be back soon to try the sampler and some other Yak dishes. :) And of course, more MoMos and another Smoked Old Fashioned, too. ;)

Yelp

Yelp
Ugh. Not ideal. Aside from convenience, there really isn't anything redeeming about this place. The food flavor is redundant and the meat is tough. I suppose some will enjoy it, but for me, once was enough. Plus, the cost is ridiculous. Service was ok - nothing special. The place was pretty empty when we arrived and I suspect it may remain so in the future.

Yelp
I had heard good things said about Himalayan Wild Yak and as such this place was definitely on my "must see" list. We happened to be nearby and jumped at the chance to check it out. The place is in an outdoor shopping area next to other restaurants and a movie theatre. Inside it was large and had a modern aesthetic. We sat outside as we had dogs with us. There are about 6-8 tables outside. Staff were friendly, but not overly attentive or quick. Beer took a bit longer to come out than normal, especially odd when we could see the staff inside chatting. The menu was somewhat limited, which can be ok when all the items are good. My wife ordered the Tandoori Chicken and I got the (very) spicy pork curry. My wife loved the chicken, which came in a large oval container with a substantial portion of chicken. Also came with rice and we ordered a garlic naan to share. I tried the chicken and it was tender and perfectly cooked. The Naan was "on point" - decent. My pork curry came in a round container which was at least 1/3 the size of the chicken portion my wife got. The menu said "very spicy" - oooh. The first couple of pieces were very fatty, I'm talking 50% fat. 2 pieces in my serving were actually just chunks of fat. Not meat, just fat. Not crispy, just fat. The meat seemed almost gamey and not something I want to experience again. This was probably pork belly, which they did not crisp and was not stated as such on the menu. The "curry sauce" was a mild paste with a lot of oil and a less-than subtle hard bite in the back of the neck. That's not "spicy" that's just pepper. When asked if everything was ok, I showed them my dinner and they looked confused but eventually offered to make me something else. Based on what my wife had, I ordered the chicken. 10 minutes passed. Luckily my wife's portion was generous so I was able to eat some of that so I was not leaving hungry. 15 minutes passed. Bear in mind this was a Thursday. 20 minutes passed. After 25-30 minutes I went into the bar area and told them to pack up my food. It came out a few minutes later. When I got home I opened up the chicken. The portion they gave me was at best half the size of what my wife received. Bear in mind this is not a cheap restaurant. To add insult to injury, the chicken was clearly a distant relative to the tender chunks I had earlier. They were tough and something I would not feed a dog. Possibly they were busy, but it really felt like it was the proverbial "take that" from the kitchen. So, I'm going to take away from that a couple of things: 1. They did not give a damn about my feedback on the pork 2. They did not care if the food they gave as a substitute was good, as they assume I would dismiss them forever. A mistake, but is now true. In summary, I would state the following: Lots of very positive reviews, but sadly not something I can concur with. If a restaurant cannot make a good version of a dish, remove it from the menu or fix the recipe. Also, bear in mind a restaurant is the sum of the total experience. Food, ambience and service. If it was just one, you are a take-out. But most of all, restaurants absolutely positively need to be reliably consistent. Even in our experience, it was not possible to get 2 identical meals made to the same quality within the space of 1 hour. Honestly, this makes me want to go home and cook my own curry. Which I have done and will do again. I genuinely hope a decent Indian restaurant with reliable and tasty menu arrives in the area soon. This is not it. Ambience: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Food: 2/5

Yelp
Himalayan Wild Yak is one of my favorite Nepali restaurants in the DMV area! I love the variety of options they have and I really really like the sel roti that you get (for free) as starters! I am also a huge fan of their chicken chilli and their Chowmein - tastes exactly like what I have had in Nepal! I also really like their chicken momo and their veg jhol momo - highly recommend! For dessert, I would recommend the Kurauni! I was not the biggest fan of their Juju Dhau as it tasted rather plain and not like Juju Dhau at all. However, they have a lot of other good options in the menu! The staff here was also very sweet and the food arrived rather quick as well.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the braised short ribs. It only comes with ONE short rib( a small one) despite the description saying short ribs, plural. I called the restaurant to make sure that this wasn't a mistake. I was told that I was correct. It only comes with ONE short rib, despite the restaurant website stating short rib(s). I would strongly recommend changing this on the website, it's very deceiving. Charging $25 for ONE short rib and a small portion of rice is a huge rip off. Especially given that even with inflation, I can go to the grocery store and get a pack of short ribs for less than $25.

Yelp
This was our second time here at this restaurant and the food has always been delicious and tasty. The garlic naan bread is light and delightful to eat plain or with sauce from the exquisite dishes.

Yelp
Nice place in the old lost rhino retreat. Modestly decorated. Attentive staff. Very interesting and unique food. Good portions. Free bread was super. It looked like an onion ring but dense. Free chicken appetizer was on the edge of spicy for me. Yak kinda tastes like beef. Very good twist on better chicken. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Old couch in sitting area.

Yelp
Authentic and yummy. Service a bit slow but the food prep is truly by order, which takes time so be prepared... :)

Yelp
I tried the yak korma and it was delicious! Garlic naan was good too. The portion size was quite generous and I took home lots of leftovers.
