11 Essential Ramen Shops in San Jose and the South Bay | Eater SF

"Unlike most other Japanese ramen shops in the area, Hinodeya is most well known for its dashi-based broths served with thick, chewy wheat noodles. In fact, the signature Hinodeya Ramen incorporates broth made with dashi and scallops that’s flavored with scallops and pork oils, then topped with chashu pork, a marinated egg, and an assortment of vegetables. Hinodeya also offers vegan ramen for those who prefer plant-based options, including Creamy Ramen made with mushroom “dashi” and the Zen Ramen made with vegan “dashi” and white soy sauce." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Hinodeya Campbell Town delivered a cozy, elevated ramen experience that impressed all generations in our family. The dashi broth was rich yet balanced, and the noodles had great texture. We also enjoyed the karaage and takoyaki—crispy, flavorful, and not overly greasy. The space is intimate but well-organized, and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. What stood out most was how welcoming the environment felt. Our group included both elders and younger siblings, and everyone found something to enjoy. The menu is clear, the flavors are comforting, and the overall vibe is calm and inviting. It’s rare to find a ramen spot that feels both refined and family-friendly—this one earns a full 5 stars from us.

Great Dashi Ramen - the vegetarian/vegan versions are wonderful too. Savory - full of 'umami. Tried the spicy miso ramen with chicken - awesome and beautifully presented. Appetizers were hit or miss. Takoyaki (octopus) was awesome. Edamame was a little under salted. Shisheto peppers were perfectly done. Good beers including Asahi Super Dry although wish they were chilled more. Good portions. Prices not low but I felt they were reasonable - about $20 for a big bowl and around $6 for appetizers and beer. Cons : - Long waits during evenings - use yelp to book a table online. They'll only seat you if everyone in your party is there - Parking is hard to find in their lot so you have to wander about nearby to find it - Seating is a bit industrial - cramped and uncomfortable . They have patio seating too - Noise level on the high side - Menu and ordering is using QR codes - you need to use your phone to order and pay first! Considering the quality of the food, the price and portions it's absolutely worth a visit. I enjoyed many s evening there!

I stopped by Hinodeya Ramen recently and overall, the food was pretty satisfying. I had the spicy miso ramen, which had the perfect amount of heat and flavor, definitely recommend it if you like a little kick. The chicken karaage was also delicious. Service was quick and friendly, though ordering through the mobile device was a little clunky. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. Now for the downsides: parking is a nightmare. Their lot is tiny, and you can’t park in any of the neighboring lots (they’re strictly for other businesses). We ended up parking across the street at Denny’s, which wasn’t ideal, especially since the area doesn’t feel super safe at night. Also… $10 for a draft beer?! That felt way overpriced, especially considering a whole bowl of ramen is around $18. I couldn’t really justify it, and it definitely took away from the overall experience. So while the food was great and the vibe inside is nice, I’d only recommend coming here if you’re within walking distance or don’t mind hunting for parking...and if you’re okay skipping the beer. I probably wouldn’t come back just because of those two things, but the ramen itself was solid.

Went in on a Sunday around 12:30pm. As soon as we went went inside a table for 4 was immediately available. No problems with parking outside before walking to the place. Though i can see how it might be tougher on busier days Food was excellent. Ordered the following: Spicy Miso Ramen - bonito & seaweed soup base with chicken & pork oil, along with chashu pork and bamboo shoots Hinodeya Ramen - dashi & scallop soup base with scallop & pork oil, along with charsiu pork and bamboo shoots Beef Bowl - sukiyaki beef, soft boiled egg, teriyaki sauce, seaweed and rice Chashu Bowl - chashu pork, soft boiled egg, mayo sauce, seaweed and rice Sweet Chili chicken Bowl - fried chicken, soft boiled egg, sweet chili sauce, seaweed and rice Service was also excellent, Tom checked in with us onnour specific requests, if any, everything was served well Atmostphere was lovely, excellent for conversations.

Google
Hinodeya Ramen , a light broth with bit of a smokey flavor. Lots of ingredients. Noodle texture was great. Bit of spice. If ur looking for a light soup this place is for you. Ramen was $17 and extra noodles $3. Total was $23.

This was one of the first ramen places I tried when I moved to the bay area, and it still holds up 2 years later. Had a great birthday dinner here last month. The ramen broth is quite flavorful with a good amount of spice, and the food tastes fresh. One of my favorites. Limited parking is the only issue with the location, I would recommend skipping the lot entirely and finding somewhere else to park.

My friends and I agreed to eat at Hinondeya for lunch after carefully reviewing their menu online. Ramen is just perfect for a cold day. We got the chicken curry, Hinondeya special and Tha Spicy Miso woth extra egg. I like the Spicy Misu because it has the right amount of spiciness and the broth is rich in flavor. It is very affordable too and the service is really quick. It quite famous becaus there is always a line at the door but because of the quick service the wait is not that long. Parking is tough though because they have a small lot but you can park on the street nearby and its a short 3 to 5 mins walk. I would definitely recommend trying out this place for a good hearty meal.

We loved the food, ramen was great. Staff were friendly and suggest us on choosing the right ramen, if needed.

Yelp
This location had both indoor and outdoor seating, so it looks a bit small on the outside but there's quite a few tables. The food is served pretty quick and you can order + pay via QR code. As for the food, I appreciate Hinodeya for how consistent the quality is. This location had some unique menu items like a yuzu ramen. They also had a summer menu of cold ramens. I kinda wanted to try them but then they were all mushroom based broth so I didn't lmao. I liked the aburi cheese spicy miso ramen. I usually get the spicy miso anyways but I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy the cheese was. Also always make sure to get the house garlic chili crisp! It's super fragrant and spicy but not too much. It definitely adds another dimension of flavour to the ramen

Yelp
this place really surprised me! they have a solid menu with good staples but also intriguing seasonal specials. i had the cold clam ramen (added bamboo shoots) and it was delicious and super refreshing. the broth had a really clean and flavorful taste, the clams were cooked perfectly, and the lemon made it so bright. it's a perfect summer meal. it came with this giant lemon and a squeezer which was fun. we sat in the back outside patio, which is a nice space that mixes outdoor and indoor. the staff was friendly and welcoming. i'll definitely be back soon to try another type of ramen, although it will be hard for me not to order the clams again.

Yelp
Food: House Ramen, it's solid, but get it with at least 1 level of spice or it's a bit plain. Yuzu Ramen, generous amount of yuzu peel in broth that was light and tasty. Adding kabocha and kale were really nice! Gyoza was outstanding! Skin was light, thin crispy edges with flavorful filling! Staff: Cheerful and courteous. Ambiance: Only one Ghibli song looped through our whole meal. It's a nice song, I love it, but please play other songs too.

Yelp
So, my kids love the SF Hinodeya, but we were in the South Bay so we went to the Campbell location. I didn't remember that I had been there before until we walked in. They have definitely improved the service and ramen. We were pleasantly greeted, and they checked on us several times during our meal. I ordered with less oil and less sodium, and they actually had reduced both. The Spicy Miso Ramen was was good, but still lacked the umami depth of a great ramen. The Creamy Ramen (vegan) was the star. It was delicious, and you couldn't tell it was vegan. Definitely on the list for meals with our vegetarian friends.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the Spicy Miso Butter Corn ramen and it was absolutely delicious! Probably my second favorite ramen I've ever had. The broth was rich and flavorful. I got a level 3 spicy and it was the perfect amount of spice. Charging extra for spice is a little ridiculous in my opinion. I also switched the pork for chicken. The parking garage next door has 90 minutes for free and then a dollar for each additional 15 minutes, so plan your trip to this restaurant carefully.

Yelp
Ramen tasted good and there was a nice variety of cold and hot ramen choices. Service was very welcoming and quick. The restaurant has a nice, intimate interior and a cool outside seating area. I was delighted with our meal.

Yelp
First time here and it was so good. I was in and out of here in 20 minutes which was great. The house ramen with inari was really good. Packed with flavor and reasonably priced. I also like the contactless ordering system. The staff was very friendly. If I had to pick one gripe, it's the parking lot. It's absolutely absurd but I think it's kind of out of their hands at a place like this and the location they're at. Definitely recommend it though.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE their ramen. I got a spicy miso ramen and I got tofu rather than chicken in it! Service is always outstanding. The vibe/ambiance is also kinda cozy. Very clean and tidy. I also got their hojicha tea, which was delish and came with 2 cups and a clear teapot :).
google avatar

Mary Anne W.

Yelp
Great ramen place a lot of flavors in their spicy miso soup, and there matcha parfait dessert was very refreshing! This restaurant gets busy fast, definitely make a reservation through Yelp. Parking is very small and limited. This place is scan and order, then they bring it to your table.

Yelp
Came to order cold ramen, ate it here a couple of days ago. I asked if it would be cold, they told me 2 cold options, in the end 10 minutes later they gave me hot and said that they don't do cold ones for delivery. Thank you, I drove from Fremont for this.

Yelp
It was nice to see a ramen place open late since no other ramen spots were. The parking lot is super compact and it was really hard parking there. The place is nice inside and service was good. I like the ordering and paying through the phone too. The veggie spring rolls were really good and so was the sauce. The spicy edemame was good but I think next time I'd just get the normal plain edemame instead. I was excited to see so many different vegetarian/vegan ramen options but was very disappointed with my order :( The broth was extremely bland compared to other meat free ramen I've had before. Even after I added spicy powder it was bland.

Yelp
This place can get busy so I recommend putting your name on the waitlist. They have outdoor and inside seating. You order and pay by a QR code. The parking lot is small. The service was decent and the workers were friendly. My favorite ramen here is the spicy miso butter corn ramen. The butter made the ramen creamy and definitely went well with it. I like how you can adjust the spice and sodium levels. The aburi cheese spicy miso ramen was solid as well but I don't think the cheese made much of a difference.

Yelp
Hinodeya is by far a great ramen place if I want something less salty, and rich in umami. I do believe $16 for a bowl with a few toppings on my ramen is a little too much. It was definitely worth the try. I also got a parfait and shared it with my friends and it was also good, yet again expensive. Other than that, I would come back again!

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place wasn't very crowded and a worker told us to sit anywhere and that we could order via QR code or place an order with him. We ended up using the QR code, but when you go to pay it asks if you want to add a tip. Why would I add a tip when I haven't even received any food or seen how the service is? It was kind of weird. We decided that we would not put a tip on the app and would leave a cash tip if it was warranted. I tend to be a bit picky with my food and the best thing about this place is that you can totally customize your ramen. We both decided to get the spicy butter corn ramen. You can select the level of spice. The one bad thing is that the spicier you want it the more they charge. What are they charging by the scoop of chili powder or something? I don't like bamboo shoots, so I was able to leave them off. Want to substitute chicken for the Char Siu like I did, no problem. You can pretty much create your perfect bowl of ramen. Very cool. Our food arrived very fast. Probaby 5 or 10 minutes after we ordered. Everyone knows that ramen is all about the broth. Unfortunately the broth here at Hinodeya is pretty bland. It certainly wasn't spicy and just didn't have much flavor at all. The noodles were good. Not too thin and had a good chew to them. So at the end of the meal, we were left with a bit of a challenge. The tip. The food runners brought us our food but we never saw them again after they put the food down. Nobody ever checked on us. What if we had, had a problem with our food? So I didn't feel like a generous tip was really warranted. We just left $5 and called it a day. So the bottom line is this place is cool because you can customize your food, but the food is bland.

Yelp
Albeit having limited parking, this restaurant has its own charm and uniqueness. We came here around 6pm on a Wednesday for dinner. There was no line yet but parking was a nightmare. There is a small parking lot in the back of the restaurant which can host up to 12 cars max. Unless you're very lucky, expect to spend a bit of time circling around. Or maybe you'll opt for street parking in the nearby residential area like I did. Or be bold and park in the next-door plazas and walk over. The restaurant is a stand-alone small building and it looks like something you'll find in Japan. Something about its dark oak exterior and the big curtain at the front door add to its charm. The inside is small, quaint and cozy. There are maybe 8-9 tables max, some of which can seat 2 and some can seat 4. There's also a cute patio area. There is a QR code at the table which you scan to order. You will pay and tip before your order arrive. I got the Hamaguri Clam Ramen and my friend got the Zen Ramen (vegetarian). Our food arrived fast within 10 minutes. OMG the Hamaguri Clam Ramen was what won me over! It was so UNIQUE! I'm used to those Tonkotsu or Miso soup based ramens but this clam ramen outshines all of the typical Japanese ramens, especially if you're a seafood fan! The soup was light yet flavorful, going down smoothly and leaving a nice aftertaste. The clam was fresh and the thick noodles were cooked perfectly. I finished my bowl in lightning speed LOL I took off one star because of the parking situation. Otherwise, all was perfect food-wise and ambience-wise.

Yelp
4.8/5 stars! This place has a cozy and intimate atmosphere, especially if you sit on the patio with the lights! I love how they allow you to bring dogs out onto the patio, as well. The service here is one of the best that I've experienced. Everyone is so friendly and attentive, ensuring that you feel cared for. The ordering process is mainly over the phone using a QR code, and you are able to pay right away through this process. For the food itself, I absolutely loved the Creamy Ramen! 9/10! This vegan option was packed with flavor, and I thought it had an aftertaste of corn (which was tasty, in my opinion). The broth is made with soy milk, shiitake mushroom "dashi," and sesame. It definitely lived up to its creamy description. Of all the toppings added, I loved the crispy kale. It paired well with the soup and added a nice texture, and the kale itself tasted buttery! I would really recommend this to anyone, as it could be a delicious meal for vegans and curious meat lovers, as well!

Yelp
Went to Hinodeya on a Monday evening around 8pm and it was somewhat busy. There are about 10-12 parking spots in the back so it can be limited during peak hours. To place the order, we had to scan a QR code and order online which was straightforward. We heard good things about the vegan creamy ramen so we each got one. I was surprised that there was an additional fee to change the spice level so I just got the default spice level. Got our food within 5-10 minutes! Creamy ramen (3.5/5): Broth was definitely creamy, however, it was very bland with the default spice level and lacked flavor. I had to ask the waitress for spice on the side which was provided free of charge and that helped. On the bright side, I liked the spinach noodles. It didn't taste any different from regular noodles and it made me feel healthy. The inari (tofu pouches) was delicious - it was flavorful and juicy. The vegetables also tasted fresh, but one minor complaint I had was that the vegetables came in big chunks. For example, the kale was served in one big bunch so I had to eat it all in one bite. Overall, the ramen was decent, and service was good. However, my friend and I agreed that there are better vegetarian/vegan ramen options nearby that offer more value. Hinodeya is priced similarly to other ramen shops in the area, but most other ramen shops in the area allow spice level modifications at no extra charge. While I appreciate the fact that there are vegan options, there is no vegetarian ramen option and to add an egg, it costs $3 more which feels steep. Thus, I don't think I would return.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
There always seems to be parking available, the service is quick and fast and the ramen tastes great! I cannot complain about any restaurant when it meets all three of the above criteria. Their littleneck clams ramen, in particular, is very good and very unique. You don't see similar items at other ramen restaurants. The broth is light but filled with umami and a generous two dozen quality littleneck clams. (You can tell because the shells are thick and firm). There is an option for slightly spicy garlic crunch which you should definitely take them up on. It adds a ton of flavor to the broth and works especially well with the lighter seafood-based broths that they have to offer.

Raya Y.

Yelp
If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. This is hands down my favorite ramen place I have ever eaten at in the world, including Japan. (I am a vegetarian so take that with a grain of salt). The creamy ramen is the only thing I get and it is out of this world every time. The broth is so flavorful and delicious, and all of the veggies in there are just incredible. I'm obsessed with this place.
google avatar

Melody V.

Yelp
Decided on ramen for a cold night and we were not disappointed! They have seating options inside or outside in their patio and you scan the QR code on the table to order and pay so no need to put your order in with the servers. The Hinodeya ramen had a clear and clean taste. It was really like a clarified miso broth and it was quite simple. For flavor though, maybe go with the spicy miso ramen. I got the Creamy Vegan ramen and wow! It was delicious. The broth was creamy, flavorful, and tasty. It was filling and for $17 a bowl, you definitely get what you pay for. The servers were very attentive and removed empty plates and bowls away quickly and food gets to you in a timely manner. We went on a fairly busy packed night and still got all of our drinks, okazu, and ramen quickly. Overall, 5/5 for taste! *Parking is VERY limited in the back (with like maybe 8 parking spots) so ideally this is a place for a couple or very small families. Their seating is quite small too as well so we did see larger families struggle to find comfortable seating. I would also advise have 1 person order on the QR website for everyone so orders don't get mixed up.

Yelp
My husband and I were at Sports Basement in Campbell and decided to give this place a try. Their parking lot is fairly small with option to park next door when those stores are closed. Since we were there for lunch, we ended up parking a street down in the neighborhood. Upon walking in, we were seated immediately in the patio (fully covered and shaded). I got the clam ramen and shared some extra chashu with my husband. While I'm not a huge fan of the noodles (felt like there's not as much texture and chewiness), I really enjoyed the broth as well as the generous portions of clams. Service here was great and I'd come back again if I was in the area.

Yelp
Scan to Order and Pay is a little odd before even receiving your food or any sort of service
google avatar

Michaela Y.

Yelp
Decent ramen place in Campbell and a go to for when i want ramen fast. You can order and pay via a QR code and the food comes out very quickly so as long as there is no line you can be in and out in under 30 minutes! Parking can be a challenge when it's busy. They have a small lot behind the restaurant, but when it fills up, it can be hard to find an alternative place to park.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
this place is located in Campbell. Small parking lot and parking can be crowded. They have a small seating inside the restaurant and more outdoor seating with heating lamps. The restaurant vibe feels rushed, busy and hectic. Servers are efficient to bring your dishes. You scan a digital menu and order online and pay. Then they bring you the entrees. The entrees were decent with good portions. The broth was OK, not too salty and not too oily.
google avatar

Dana D.

Yelp
Late lunches usually means no wait so we decided to head on over to Hinodeya which my entire family has swore that this was the best ramen in the bay. First impression - small quaint place with a great atmosphere! I loved the relaxing music in the background. They have a QR code system where you order and pay right away which was fairly convenient. Service was still great even though we paid first! We ordered the Hinodeya House ramen with two appetizers - karaage and shrimp tempura. I really enjoyed the karaage which I could tell was marinated and freshly fried. The side of green tea salt hits the spot. The size of the shrimp tempura was quite decent but the price was definitely still very steep. The ramen that we ordered was very light and I enjoyed the noodle texture. Based on my personal preference, I think this place is solid but it's not a must try on my end!
google avatar

Jessy H.

Yelp
Having tried the Union City location, I knew exactly what I wanted to have again. The clam ramen is light and addictive. Interestingly enough, this location is slightly different and not as good. While the broth still had its nice briny taste, it also had a smoky flavor which overpowered the seafood flavor. The noodles were slightly overcooked too.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
You can easily miss the parking lot if you're going fast down the street. There's about 10-12 spots. Food came out fast. I ordered the chicken ramen and it was good. I've been to the Hinodeya in Newark and it seems both locations somewhat give you a small amount of noodles. I ordered extra noodles in anticipation of this and it proved right. Nonetheless, it was a chilly day and the Ramen hit the spot.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
This is my favorite ramen place in the South Bay. It was my first time eating at the restaurant in person; before we had ordered take out a couple of times. It has a very authentic, cozy feel like the ramen shops in Japan. My husband and I tried some of their more unique beer offerings; the matcha IPA and yuzu beer. I liked the yuzu beer, but felt like the fruit flavor was very light/subtle. Spicy edamame and gyoza were both delicious; I liked the sauce they used for the edamame better than most of the places that serve this for an appetizer. Gyoza tastes very fresh, but it would have been nice to have a little more sauce. I got the Hinodeya ramen, which I shared with my son; it was perfect! The broth has a light, healthy taste, the pork was tender and nicely flavored, and the noodles were delicious. They even have the option of spinach noodles! Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Kelsey T.

Yelp
My favorite ramen spot in the South Bay! There was no line when I went and we were able to get seated immediately. Everything is self order through a QR code. My favorite ramen here is the spicy miso butter corn ramen and it hits every time! Our ramen and takoyaki came out really fast and everything had beautiful presentation. The waitlist may be long on the weekends but it is worth the wait! My other favorite appetizers have to be the shrimp tempura, chicken karaage, and the spicy edamame.
google avatar

Yelp
It was my first time at Hinodeya for lunch today. I'm so glad I swung by! I ordered the chicken Kara age as my appetizer and the spicy ramen as my entree. The true star for me was the chicken Kara age that came with matcha salt. I've never heard or had matcha salt before, but it's literally my new favorite thing! I definitely recommend getting that appetizer. The spicy ramen was okay. It wasn't too spicy at all and that's coming from someone with no spice tolerance. The broth was creamy, but a tad sweet. The noodles were good and the chashu was delectable. I liked that we could just order from the QR code so it made it easy. The servers were attentive and very sweet. Definitely check out Hinodeya!

Yelp
Delicious spot for ramen! I was looking for a restaurant to eat in the Campbell area and found this place. We came here with friends and our doggies, the staff were accommodating and seated us at the covered outdoor patio. They have a small parking lot behind the restaurant, so parking was easy. I was pleased to see that they had Tori Paitan Ramen on their ramen, which is chicken ramen. I had this for the first time in Japan, so I was eager to try it again. The Tori Paitan Ramen was delicious and the chicken broth was tasty as well. There were also plenty of toppings included in the bowl, which I enjoyed. Hinodeya Ramen Bar made for a great meal, and I would recommend them if you're looking for a good bowl of ramen in the Campbell area.
google avatar

Karen Y.

Yelp
The food was fine, the ramen broth was hot and quickly brought to our table. I disliked how the fried garlic was packed in small to-go sauce containers, very un-green. The wait staff weren't very attentive, they weren't mean or rude, just didn't really smile or seem happy to be there. The ambiance was ok, although temperature wise, too chilly inside and too stuffy outside, it felt like a greenhouse out on the patio. The fan just blew the hot air around. We've been to all the Hinodeya ramen around the Bay Area, this location was seriously lackluster.
google avatar

Pranathi B.

Yelp
I went back and made sure to place an order for the correct vegan ramen this time- the creamy vegan ramen! And it was delicious, easily among the best vegan ramen I had. The sweet inari(fried tofu), perfectly cooked sweetish acorn squash, fried kale (ignoring the inedible center stalk), the surprisingly delectable spinach noodles(other than the fact that they were green, they didn't taste anything like spinach, which is good) and the most delicious creamy vegan soup came together so wonderfully in this bowl. I can see myself coming back again for it. We also got the vegetarian gyoza. With a crisp pan fried bottom and a delectable filling, these were 5/5 as well.
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Everything was so delicious! I love how they have gluten free noodles which were so tasty. The servers were very attentive and ordering was easy on the app. It definitely got busy in the evening but we didn't have to wait. My friends loved the matcha beer and the vegan ramen too. Would definitely come back, the comfortable interior is a plus!

Yelp
One of my favorite ramen places in the area. Love their dashi ramen and all the customizations you can do. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Elaina V.

Yelp
This is my favorite ramen spot! The parking lot is quite small and usually full, so keep that in mind. Wait times vary, but there is usually seating available outside even on busier weekends (with outdoor heaters). The staff are kind and welcoming. You order from your phone using a QR code menu, but I believe there is another form of payment upon request. My favorite bowls are the hinodeya ramen and the spicy miso. The bowls are filling and flavorful. You can customize your spice level and add/remove toppings when you order on the phone. As for appetizers, the takoyaki and potstickers are pretty good!
google avatar

Dong Wook C.

Yelp
Busy restaurant. Good appetizer selection. Decent ramen. I ordered mine with less sodium along with the shishito peppers as an appetizer. I appreciated that they took the time to wash the peppers so A+ for cleanliness. The only recommendation is rinsing off the peppers more thoroughly with water. There were a few pieces that were a little soapy in taste. The sauce for the peppers was very good. The spiciness really hit the spot. The Hinodeya ramen was good, and although I ordered mine with less sodium for health reasons, I bet the one with regular salt content tastes even better. I didn't really care for the parking. The lot is small and you cannot park at the businesses nearby as all of them posted signs stating no restaurant parking.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
They are not serving the typical pork broth ramen, they offered shiitake dashi or dashi broth. We ordered their spicy miso ramen, crispy chicken karaage, and chasiu bowl on brown rice. The broth of the spicy miso ramen was good and flavorful and I'm particularly happy about the bamboo topping! :) The chicken karaage are good, but didn't taste like chicken thigh meat. The chasiu was on the saltier side, but tasted just fine when you paired it with the rice and corn!

Yelp
Ordered the Hinodeya Ramen with a side of gyoza through DoorDash. I specified when I ordered that I wanted the ramen non-spicy and that's what I got. It had a nice flavor with pork, spinach, noodles, green onions, and a tasty marinated egg. I added corn, inari (sweet fried tofu), and extra green onions to the ramen. It didn't really need the extra onions and the inari was a bit too sweet. The gyoza was good, but the dipping sauce was a little too salty. I liked the thin wrapper on the gyoza.

Yelp
Second try's the charm? My partner and I came on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't super busy. Be aware that the parking lot is small and we barely found a spot. We chose to sit outdoors and it had really nice lighting and the weather was cool - perfect for ramen. I had visited Hinodeya awhile ago (2019), but the ramen didn't stand out to me so I haven't gone back until recently. I got the Spicy Miso ramen with extra corn and my partner ordered the Spicy Miso Butter Corn ramen. Spicy Miso: The broth was super flavorful and umami. The chashu was tender and just melts in your mouth. The noodles were cooked perfectly - chewy/bouncy. My partner gave me his bamboo and they tasted great with the ramen. Overall solid ramen. 10/10 Spicy Miso Butter Corn: The same spicy miso ramen as mine, but there was butter and corn added in. The butter wasn't fully melted and my partner ended up eating whole chunks of it. He wasn't much of a fan of that. 7/10

Yelp
Went here late on a Thursday and got dropped off to get on the wait list cuz boyfriend had to look for parking- he couldn't find anything close by but came back and someone had left. No wait- we sat outside and ordered chicken appetizer (delisciois!) we both got spicy miso ramen with crunchy garlic. I got extra egg and was delighted.

Yelp
I ordered using the website and it was impressive how fast I got my drinks after my order was placed. The signature Hinodeya Ramen is worth trying if you like trying different types of ramen. It's a little cramped, but it didn't bother me.

Yelp
TLDR; parking is a nightmare but it's worth it! I can't believe it took us a while to even discover this place. As we hike our butts from the East to the South Bay, we are able to bring our pup and enjoy some delicious ramen, donburi, and soft serve. The staff are consistently gracious and helpful. They always ask if they can bring out a small plastic to go container of water for our dog. He gets to sit patiently with us in the back patio while we enjoy what is the best ramen in the Bay Area. Yes, I said it. And yes, it's a highly controversial and bold statement to make. But it truly is the best ramen I've had so far here. Whether it's a classic ramen that stays on the menu, or a featured limited summer cold ramen (which is delicious, do not pass it up), the ramen is consistently good whether we've dined there or brought takeout home. Yes, their take home set of four has smaller portions than if you dine in, but it's just as good and saves a trek over to the restaurant. So far, everything we've eaten and tried has been delicious. To my surprise, my favorite thing was the vanilla soft serve. It's not just the soft serve that's good. It's the waffle cone that you pay extra to have it served in. Pay the extra whatever it is. It's so so worth it that I'm salivating just thinking about how perfect it is. That's enough reading for now. Enjoy your meal here and I'll be content knowing that my civic duty for the year has been completed. You're welcome.

Yelp
I took my coworkers here, including my officemate from Tokyo. She LOVED it! I've never seen her eat that much!

Yelp
The ramen here is flavorful and the chicken karaage is crispy. There's a small parking lot behind the restaurant that has very few spots. The workers were friendly and nice. They play the drums to welcome you in. The place is small but it feels homey.

Yelp
I love ramen in general, and Japanese ramen is one of my favorites. It's usually saltier and heavier than other types of ramen, but Hinodeya Ramen in Campbell offers a lighter, less greasy option. The restaurant has a spacious and welcoming atmosphere. You can either place your order through a QR code or directly with a server. They also let you customize your bowl by adjusting the saltiness, spice level, noodle type, or adding extra toppings. My favorites are the Hinodeya Ramen and the Clam Ramen. All the appetizers are excellent too I especially enjoy the Chicken Karaage and Shrimp Tempura. Keep in mind, it gets pretty busy during lunchtime, so finding parking can be a bit tricky.

Yelp
I've had this place booked marked for quite some time so I was excited when my friends and I were around the area and decide to eat here. I was a little disappointed by the food here because of the good reviews. We waitlisted on Yelp which was a good because they were pretty busy when we came. They have both outdoor and indoor seating but there isn't much seating inside. As soon as you finish your food, they are already rushing to clean your table to open it up for the next group I ordered the spicy miso ramen and for additional spiciness, you have to pay 50 cents for each spice level (which adds up if you like spicy food). The spice comes in a little cup on the side....not 50 cents worth of spiciness in my opinion. The noodles were fine but I didn't love them. Egg was slightly overdone. Overall I thought it was a lil higher priced for what you get. It was a fine experience but nothing to write home about at all.

Yelp
I have been to Hinodeya many many times including the one in SF and Campbell. My favorites are Veggie Gyoza and Creamy Ramen (Vegetarian). This time I tried Zen Ramen and I didn't like it at all. So if you are a vegetarian, you technically have 3 options but I only like creamy ramen among them.

Yelp
My friend and I went here a little after 9pm. I was surprised at how full the restaurant still was at this hour on a Sunday. It must show how much people enjoy it! The place is pretty small, about 12 tables max. But I appreciate it's not a huge place. It was comfortable for me. There isn't really service in the traditional sense because you order through a QR code and pre-pay at your table. You get brought your food and drinks and water, but that's the most interaction there is. argus can be convenient for a lot of people, but it's not as convenient if you have questions; though, I'm sure you could ask them if you have any questions. What was cool about this place, and unique for a ramen place, is they allow you to customize your spice level; though, they do charge for more spice , which is not something I've seen before with Indian, Thai, or other cuisines with custom spice levels. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with regular spice. It was not really spicy, but it was pretty good. Decent flavor. I thought the egg was cooked perfectly -- not too much but still a slight jelly texture to the center. For me it was perfect. I thought the three pieces of pork were DELICIOUS. They were flavorful and tender and tasted clean. Sometimes the pork in ramens I've had before were tough, not super flavorful, or greasy. I didn't get any of that in this one. The ramen was $18, pre-tax, which I thought was very expensive, but maybe that's normal for the area. Overall I enjoyed it. I like matcha and IPAs, so, naturally, I really wanted to try the matcha IPA. It was one of those things I figured I'd try once for the uniqueness but not really like, but it was way better than expected. I enjoyed it and would definitely get it again. (And yes, it's green because of the matcha).
