San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"Marina dwellers now have an excellent ramen option in the neighborhood. Hinodeya, with an original location in Japantown and a few other outposts throughout the city, is a noodle soup standby. Aside from staples like spicy miso and hamaguri ramen, the moody spot (complete with a marble bar) also has vegan options for the plant-based crowd." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

Google
Everything about our meal was spectacular. I ordered the Ultimate Scallop Ramen with Fried Spring Rolls and Edamame and my coworker chose the Spicy Ramen. Both were spectacular. Tasty and hot the spot. I ate every bite if that tells you anything. Highly recommended!!!!

I love to eat here, at first I thought it was small resto. But its spacious inside. The Japanese guy who might be the owner/manager is really nice. Definitely will be back, if in the area again. We also love the food esp the ramen! 🇯🇵🍜🍥🥢

Visited here for dinner, ordered chicken karage ramen bento and veg gyoza and ramen bento with creamy sauce. This combination is good value for the price. Food was very tasty and also service was excellent. Restaurant decor is very pleasing, specially in the back.

Hinodeya Ramen Bar & Chestnut – A perfect mix of comfort food, calming vibes, and thoughtful touches We had the Spicy Miso Ramen with chicken and a starter of Chicken Karaage — both were absolutely delicious. The ramen had a deep, flavorful broth with the right amount of heat, and the karaage was perfectly crispy and juicy. What really sets this place apart is the ambience. There’s a beautiful tree right in the center of the restaurant, creating a calm, Zen-inspired atmosphere that instantly transports you to Japan. The décor and vibe are thoughtfully done, making it a great place to relax and enjoy your meal. In addition to ramen, there are bento box options and a wide variety of Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It’s a great spot whether you’re here for a full meal or just a drink and a sweet treat. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in. At the end of the meal, they even gave us free Kyoto candies, which was such a sweet surprise. And don’t forget — if you enjoyed your experience, you can bang the drum near the door as a fun way to say you loved it! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food, peaceful vibes, and a little touch of Japan right here.

Delicious food and great service. All the staff was very welcoming. Much better service and experience than O'Farrell location. Would definitely come again

Google
We had a great dinner here. I enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered, the spicy edamame appetizer was very tasty. The corn miso ramen was also very tasty. Enjoyed this SF ramen spot and would gladly return.

Google
Was in San Francisco for a conference and I would walk by and see it was always packed and the food smelled delicious. I went last night and it did not disappoint! The Ramen was delicious, the pork very tender and well cooked and the spring rolls very delicious as well! Highly recommend! Thank you for the delicious food and great service!

Yelp
I've never been to this location, but maybe I should come more! The service is outstanding and the waiter was so kind. He also gave us some matcha candies from Kyoto, which was so tasty! The first thing we noticed was the menu was slightly different, with special ramens not at other locations. I was planning to get the creamy vegan ramen I always get, but opted to try the Sukiyaki one since I was craving hot pot. The ramen broth tasty, not too sweet or too salty! The beef was delicious (some slices could've been thinner cuts of beef to make it more tender, but was still good). We also tried the crispy brussel sprouts, which were so delicious and umami forward with the bonito flakes! Not sure if other locations have that dish, but they absolutely should. We also got the hamaguri ramen which was clam based and came with plenty! Here's a tip, you can check in on doordash to earn points and discounts. We got to claim $5 off on our ramens. Super happy with our experience here.

Yelp
Date: Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Delivery Time Ordered: around 5:30pm Time Arrived: about 30+ mins later Ordered via: DoorDash Delivered to: Outer Richmond *Spicy Miso Ramen ($20) *Hinodeya Ramen: House Ramen ($18) *Takoyaki: 4 pcs ($8) *Beef Donburi "Gyu Don" ($17) *Gyoza: 5 pcs ($9) *Chicken Karaage ($12) The hubby woke up late and picked ramen for dinner. After looking around DD, we decided to try Hinodeya. I got the spicy miso, while the hubs got the house ramen and donburi. I always like having apps, so I added the takoyaki, gyoza, and karaage. I typically like a bunch of extra toppings on my ramen, but I had corn, spinach, etc, at home, so decided to doctor it up without paying a premium. The broth had a good amount of spice, tho I would have loved it if it were even spicier. The noodles were springy with a nice chewy, decent amount of toppings. The apps were fine. Nothing special, but ticked the box if you're craving apps with your noodle soup. He hubs seemed to enjoy his donburi. Nice spot to grab some ramen. REVIEW #3679

Yelp
Hinodeya house ramen: B Decent ramen all around. Broth has a rich flavor and the noodles have a bouncy texture. The sliced pork and half boiled egg are good proteins in the soup. Price was not bad for the portion too. Yu-Lin-Chi (Fried chicken with sweet & spicy sauce): C Didn't care for this dish too much. While the sauce has a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness, the chicken got very soggy and wasn't enjoyable for me. I would give this 3 stars but the service was nice and also very fast, and I like the ambiance so I rounded up.

Yelp
Hinodeya has always been one of my favorite ramen spots! The dashi broth is soothing and delicious every time. I'm glad they opened a location in the Marina. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a lovely ambiance. I love their spicy miso ramen, house ramen, and shishito peppers.

Yelp
Yummy ramen spot with great service. Went on a cold rainey night and was exactly what we were craving. We started off with the gyoza which was really good and both got the house ramen and subbed chicken for pork. The chicken was great quality, got level 2 which was nice flavor. They have these really yummy garlic crisps that you are able to add to your food. Looks like they have a nice patio that will want to check out next when the weather is nicer!

Yelp
The service was very slow. We waited for service and no one came around until I flagged a waitress down. The ramen was a 5/10. I got level 2 spice and it was VERY mild, basically tasted as if no spice was added. The portion of ramen is on the smaller side. I would recommend the Matcha-cha-cha drink. It's creamy and has a very nice matcha flavor.

Yelp
Absolutely delish!! Lots of choices, nice waiting staff and walking distance from anywhere in Marina and nearby.

Yelp
This place gets packed, so come at least 30-40 before the time you're planning to eat! The price of ramen is around $15+ which is considerably cheap compared to other places in SF. What I love about this ramen bar is their ramen feels super homey . I think oftentimes ramen feels very luxurious, heavy, intense and umami packed. If you're not feeling that vibe of a tonkotsu broth, this place has lots of options where their brother truly feels comforting and homemade. Not to mention, their chicken karaage curry is FIREEEE. They have this crispy fried kale on the side that was actually life changing for me.

Yelp
Came here for an early dinner on Saturday. The restaurant is very spacious and has an enclosed back room with a skylight. The setting was very calm and there weren't too many people. We had the spicy miso and the clam ramen both of which were great! The service was quick too - in and out in about an hour or less.
google avatar

Derek T.

Yelp
I've been here twice and I enjoyed my ramen both times. I've been to the Japantown location a few times and had decent experiences there. I came in to claim the $5 ramen deal on Doordash. I got the Spicy Miso, which was pretty good! I remember trying it at the Japantown location but it was definitely better here. The broth was rich and light at the same time. I came back to try the Clam Ramen, which I also enjoyed. It had a lot of clams and the broth was light and flavorful. Service was also great. They were super friendly and checked up on me a few times. I definitely want to come back to try the sukiyaki and the scallop ramen!

Yelp
Nice addition to Marina.... The broth was so great as well as sweet &spicy chicken! Service was nice but didn't anticipate that much since we ordered through cell phone. There is a back room for private party as well.

Yelp
So happy to have a good ramen spot open up near Chestnut St! Came here for dinner today and had a nice experience. When you walk in there's a couple tables and outdoor seating by the st, but there's a bigger area in the back which was beautiful with lots of greenery and natural light. They even let us sit there with our dog and we had plenty of space. For food we ordered the shrimp tempura, gyoza, and spicy miso ramen. Everything tasted good, and I loved that you can customize the ramen with extra toppings and spice level. The menu seemed more limited than the online menu, but that could be because they recently opened. I also loved how friendly everyone serving us was! That was one of my favorite parts of coming here. Will definitely be back since I live in the area.

Yelp
Such flavorful and hearty ramen! The broth was made with care and got delicious, beautiful toppings in the bowl. Satisfying delicious meal Recommend the spicy miso ramen with chashu - bouncy noodles in a rich broth, bamboo shoots, jammy egg, and fresh green onion. So good and I got the spice level 3 and think it was a comfortable mild-medium. Went with a friend who got the vegan creamy ramen which came with a flavorful broth as well. The noodles were a green vegetarian noodle. Ordered with the spice level 10 which came on the side and it truly was so spicy when mixed in HINODEYA spice level goes from level 1-4, 10, then 20. The 10 was a sweat breaker but still good so be mindful of this or dare for the 20. The table also came with a chili onion crisp on the side which was great Indoor seating in back was beautiful with the green wall decor and then a real 100 year old tree inside! Awesome addition to the Marina Chestnut Street area! Saw signs for an August 1 grand opening. Congrats on the new location

Yelp
This is Hinodeya's newest SF location and now my favorite over their Japantown and FiDi locations. It is very clean and inviting with excellent, friendly service. Their Spicy Miso Ramen was good (although not spicy at all to me). It looks small from the outside, but there are actually two rooms -- one in the front, then one in the back after the bathrooms. I prefer the traditional decor, dim lighting, and intimate seating in the front. The back room is very bright and big enough for groups. There's a cute, smallwater feature on the way to the bathrooms -- blink and you'll miss it! There are two single stall unisex bathrooms with a communal sink outside.

Yelp
I much prefer tonkatsu to dashi, but I understand Hinodeya doesn't offer thick broth. This is the best Hinodeya in the city, given the ambiance and friendly service. The 100+ yr old tree and skylight are my favorites.
google avatar

Binh P.

Yelp
This Hinodeya has the more options compared to the Japantown location. It is also substantially larger. I ordered the Scallop ramen because it seemed unique, as well as my favorite, the Creamy Vegan. For starters I got the spicy edamame and takoyaki. The spicy edamame had a really good spice to it, and it was also mixed up with some crispy garlic bits. The takoyaki was on the crispy side, but the batter wasn't very flavorful and the octopus piece was puny. The scallop ramen had a nice presentation, and the scallops were good, but the broth was light. It reminded me of wonton noodle broth or cupped ramen. I wouldn't get it again. Service was ok, they forgot to give us spoons for the ramen and it took a while to flag someone down to get the check. Just stick to the creamy vegan and your meal should be fine.

Yelp
I was very excited to see that there was a new Hinodeya location opening in the Marina! Gradually the Asian food offerings are getting better in this area. I stopped in with my partner for lunch on a weekend and there was hardly anyone there. We asked to sit in the patio in the back which is absolutely gorgeous. There's a big tree in the middle and they were playing relaxing music it was almost like being at a spa! I definitely want to come back in the evening and sit in the patio since there are lights so I'm sure it's beautiful. For food I usually get the creamy vegan ramen - I'm not vegan but it's so good! The broth is light and creamy and flavorful and I love all the veggie toppings. I've also had their regular house ramen and spicy miso ramen and they're both yummy too.

Yelp
Ramen in San Francisco, you got to do it. Welcomed walking in and greeted with a "bong" of the drum. Enjoy the enchanting dining room with a beautiful garden decor.
google avatar

Karlee J.

Yelp
I love hinodeya in Japan town and was excited to check out this new location. My favorite is the miso butter corn which wasn't on the menu but the waitress helped me recreate. Please consider putting it on the menu!!! It's the best thing there. Gyozas were yummy but small. Miso ramen is better than the house ramen imo. Service was wonderful and the tree/ambiance is perfect! Such a good spot. Will bring guests here:) High chairs for little ones

Yelp
Came here by accident when we stumbled upon it in the marina. I remember this restaurant being a Peruvian restaurant and the only way I remember was because of the olive tea in the back dining area. Ordered their classic and most popular ramen and overall it was good but not the most amazing ramen I ever had and wouldn't go out of my way for it. The service was quick and owner was very attentive. There are other good ramens in sf but if you're in the marina looking for a steaming bowl then try it out
google avatar

Kathleen A.

Yelp
A really nice experience at Hinodeya. I hadn't seen any construction but it was pleasant surprise to see a well-known ramen bar fill this spot in the Marina. Service was quick and attentive. It was easy to walk in and grab a table. Food was tasty and in large portions. We enjoyed both our appetizers and main entrees. At the time we were there, they did not have alcohol on the menu which was fine for us but may be a consideration for others.
google avatar

Abigail A.

Yelp
As soon as I saw the sign go up, I could not wait to eat here. I love Hinodeya in Japantown and the Marina has been an Asian-food desert. There are some different things on the menu compared to the Hinodeya in Japantown so it was exciting to try the scallop ramen. The scallops were delicious and I had never had scallop ramen before. The soup broth was lighter than typical pork ramen so it's nice if you're in the mood for some seafood and something a little lighter. The miso ramen was as delicious as always. It's still in soft opening and we came for lunch. It really wasn't busy but service was very attentive. The ambiance was very nice the back room with the big tree and skylight were unexpected from the outside. Can't wait to go back since we finally have a Hinodeya in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at Hinodeya Ramen Bar! The atmosphere was cozy, the staff was welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious.

Yelp
My sisters and I came here on a Saturday night at 9:30pm. To our surprise, the place was completely empty! Granted it was late, but we were the only table there. Regardless, we all loved the vibe and ambience, they even dimmed the lights a bit in the back room for us which was a nice touch. We were served very quickly and attentively, thanks to a couple servers who made us feel very comfortable and welcome. Striking up a conversation with who we think is the current owner (we regret asking his name and if he was indeed the owner), we learned this was one of the new locations! There are a few in the city. The ambience and service was spectacular, but the food was also standout. My ramen was very flavorful but not too heavy, with every ingredient seasoned nicely. I believe I got the spicy miso ramen with a couple of add-ons. The shishito peppers were definitely a hit, great texture and very flavorful; almost tasted like a teriyaki type of sauce on top that was soooo good with the peppers. The edamame was also fun and a nice appetizer while we waited for our mains. The matcha salt is fun, though very little matcha flavor that could be underwhelming to some. My sister ordered the ZEN ramen as she is vegetarian, and was very impressed! She doesn't normally care for ramen too much as they generally don't have great vegetarian options (her words, not mine) but she very much loved this place! She loved the kale, specifically, which were fried to a fun kale chip texture. My other sister ordered the katsu curry which she also really enjoyed. We absolutely will be coming back next time we're in the city!

Yelp
Hinodeya is here in the Marina! The inside of the restaurant looks beautiful and the owner was super nice, letting me know that they are opening on 7/26. The other location has great food, so I'm looking forward to having a location within walking distance. R eally nice inside A romatic soup M enu specializes in Dashi ramen E asy to access in the Marina N eed to check it out soon!

Jenn M.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the Hinodeya ramen. I love that, in addition to seaweed and bamboo shoots, they also include spinach--a nice touch that sets them apart from most ramen places. The broth is flavorful without being too rich. For those who prefer a creamier, richer broth, the Spicy Miso is an excellent choice. Despite the name, you can choose your preferred level of spiciness. However, I wouldn't order the gyoza again; it was soggy and the portion was small. The interior is stunning, resembling a traditional Japanese tea house. Some of the servers were a bit awkward, but they were all very nice--I suspect a few may still be new to the role. Overall, I'm thrilled to have a new ramen spot in the neighborhood.

Traci G.

Yelp
Deelish! I've ordered this for delivery several times. It's on my list of favorites. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Just got back from lunch here -- opening day! I had the house ramen and it was delicious -- hints of sesame, the nori and bamboo shoots and chili strings(?) all played together really well and made for a very yummy broth; the noodles were great and had a perfect bite. I've been to the Hinodeya in Japantown but I don't remember the ramen being as good as this. Extra points for the beautiful back room (I miss Bistro Aix, but love that the back area has been preserved) and clean elegant decor. And it's great that they are open for lunch, that will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It was opening day, and I could see that they were still working out a few kinks, but service was fine and I expect it will get even better. Oishii desu! Welcome to the neighborhood, Hinodeya!
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Beautiful space and a unique, sophisticated offering. The room in the back is especially beautiful with the olive tree.

Tom C.

Yelp
Ramen broth had no depth, egg was overcooked and grainy (literally solid yolk) and still fridge-cold to boot, and noodles were mushy and overcooked. While the ramen was rubbish, the chicken karaage was pretty good. We won't be back.

Ana A.

Yelp
Great food and amazing service! Worth trying their special ramen and at least a couple of appetizers

Juan S.

Yelp
google avatar

Cyril K.

Yelp
Great ambiance and delicious Ramen. We are so grateful to have Hinodeya in the neighborhood.

Jenny L.

Yelp
Food was just ok. Service was ok to start but then took 20 min to get the check. Had to ask twice.

Lucia M.

Yelp
The Spicy Miso Ramen was EXCELLENT. Not too spicy at all. I know a tiny little 6-year old who would wolf the whole bowl down. The Beauty part was how elegantly the Miso was packaged. I stopped ordering soups on delivery because they invariably leak or spill. Not this one from Hinodeya Chestnut St. Not a single drop spilled. The Miso w/Ramen Noodles were packaged in a very convenient paper bowl, nestled on top of a plastic container which held the toppings (green onions, roasted pork slices, mushrooms, chilli strings, sesame seeds, and a beautiful seaweed leaf). I will definitely order from this place again.

Kathy G.

Yelp
Not a vegan, but my regular order is the vegan ramen. Noodles and that broth are addictive. Staff is also very accommodating.

Mea T.

Yelp
Welcome to Marina! I am very excited to have a Ramen place in my neighborhood. It's not easy to keep a restaurant in Marina as I have witnessed many restaurants come and go. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say the ramen was not hot and the noodles were absolutely over cooked. Were they pre-cooked for the convenience? My instant noodles taste better than tha. I hope you improve!
google avatar

amy T.

Yelp
This is a delicious ramen restaurant in the marina. The menu is straight forward and easy to find something. I felt like it was truly comfort in a bowl. I definitely want to go back. I'm just taking one star off because I feel there's an upsell on the menu for the amount of spice you want your ramen. The spicier you want your ramen, the pricier it will be. Also on yelp it says it's been in business 139 years. I want to clarify and better understand. Do you mean as a restaurant elsewhere? The Marina area wasn't much more than beach 139 years ago.
google avatar

Micah I.

Yelp
I ordered the house ramen and it was good but not as flavorful or as hot as other ramen dishes I have enjoyed. My boyfriend ordered the spicy miso ramen and did not pay the up charge for an additional level of spice (personally I don't like up charges at restaurants and prefer all inclusive pricing) he said it wasn't spicy at all and needed more spice. Ask to sit in the back as the room has a really cool vibe with an atrium, olive tree and faux living wall.

Scott M.

Yelp
Awesome Ramen!! A great addition to the marina! I will be back for sure. The host was very attentive and made us feel well taken care of.

Bernard P.

Yelp
Loved the clam ramen! So glad they are expanding beyond Japantown. Good location and ambiance.

Giovanni ..

Yelp
Unnecessarily salty. The gluten free "rice" noodles did not look like rice noodles I have ever seen. Egg was ok.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Much needed addition to the neighborhood! Hinodeya has a new location and is just as good as the one in japantown. The classic is a go to but the scallop one is great if you want something more extravagant. Service is quick and you order through a QR code to the table.

Sahil D.

Yelp
I had the spicy miso - rich creamy broth and solid flavors. Bun served me - great service, received the food super quick and was well taken care of!

Scott M.

Yelp
I had the pork curry to go. The curry and rice were great, but that's where things end. The pork cutlet consisted of 40% fat and was disappointing in the quality of the meat. The kale was tasty but was doused in oil. The amount of oil quickly became overwhelming in a few bites.

Erin W.

Yelp
As soon as the sign went up during construction, the employees next door were buzzing. We couldn't have been more excited. And in their first two days open they've proven to be gracious, kind, and generous neighbors. The food is amazing (as we suspected) and we can't wait to frequent on lunch breaks and for takeaway. I tried five dishes and thoroughly enjoyed each one. 10/10. Can't wait to dine in one day soon.

Kristin H.

Yelp
Was so excited to learn that Hinodeya opened a location closer to where I live (aka walking distance, somewhat). I've already eaten here twice, and have been so surprised that it hasn't caught on yet! The ramen is so flavorful without making you feel heavy and gross. The menu included curry, which they didn't have the first time I was here, so I haven't tried it. My go to is the hinodeya ramen with extra bamboo on the side. The service was good, we sat outside (had our doggo) and they kindly offered to turn the heater on without us asking. They even brought a bowl of water for the pup. Highly recommend, and the ambience on the inside is .

Holly P.

Yelp
staff was nice at first but... didn't realize we spoke Spanish and were talking shit about us in kitchen in which we sat right in front of. incredibly rude and if it wasn't for just one comment but multiple. we came in for a nice dinner wanting something yummy ended up with a mood change. after the comments from the kitchen the waiter then showed obvious judgment about our party after one of us was not super hungry so we ordered a few appetizers as their meal. we did not come in with any disrespect or attitude just looking for a nice dinner. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND IF I COULD DO NEGATIVE STARS THEN I WOULD NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN.

Long L.

Yelp
good food. good portion. good service. good ambience. staff is friendly and has great hospitality. the business also recently opened :) come support them!
