Wow. A vegan German restaurant. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. But this place surprised me! With a delightful outdoor area and festive lighting, we sat down for a drink and maybe a pretzel. After looking at the menu, we decided to try a lot more and ended up having a full dinner. Let me tell you, for a vegan joint, this place is delicious! The typical meats (brats, schnitzel, etc.) are obviously not the real deal, but they do a really great job making them tasty! With a fairly large selection of beers and a surprisingly large vegan menu, I have to give it to this place -- it felt like Germany. Great work Hinterhof! I hope to come here again when I'm in the area.

Spectacularly tasty. The food is fun and joyful. It feels like a magic trick to see sausages and fried meat made of plants, especially in such a meat and dairy heavy cuisine. Their cheese plate is worth sharing, and by all means try the pancakes! Delicious!!

Pros: food (especially the weinerschnitzel) is good, bordering on great in some instances, and it was all served hot. Also, the space is great and has a very cool vibe. I'm not giving stars for this, but I also love that it's all vegan! Cons: (if these are addressed this could be a five star rating b/c the good food). SLOW. So slow. We've been here two and a half hours (now 10pm on a Saturday) and just got our check. Probably a new team still finding their way, but it feels understaffed. Little details go overlooked - e g. no water/refills and no toilet paper in the bathroom.

One of a kind spot! Love the atmosphere, the food, the service. My partner and I came during happy hour on a Saturday and it was surprisingly less busy than I expected on a beautiful LA afternoon. We got the happy hour special pretzel with mustard and split a beer. We ordered the fried pickles and Jägerschnitzel to split, with the intent of ordering one more entree after - but wow, those schnitzel plates are big! Zero complaints of course, the food was delicious! Service was also great. All safety precautions are being taken care of and you can tell the people here care about providing great food in a safe manner. Currently there are no paper/physical menus - you scan a QR code upon arrival to pull up a menu. Order inside and pick up a tray with drinks, plates, and cutlery on the side. Then find a place to sit outside - lots of seating space. I personally enjoyed sitting in front by the entrance, with the trees, lights, and decor - loved the vibes. Very much looking forward to returning and trying out more of the menu!

Hinterhof deserves four stars for service, five stars for flavor and five stars for atmosphere. The pretzel and accompanying beer cheese is incredible, as is the apple strudel. I was unimpressed but not disappointed by the beer brat and jägerschnitzel, and the restaurant even made me, a lifelong sauerkraut skeptic, put my stamp of approval on the fermented cabbage dish. The portion sizes are quite large, and so is the bill, with each entree costing around $20+ apiece, so consider splitting something if you go with someone. I didn't try the beer because I wanted my first time to focus on the food, but everyone there seemed to be into their beverage of choice. Finally, their location in Highland Park is nice with plenty of street parking options, and it's clear they take COVID-19 social distancing seriously, so it feels very safe. I'll be back 100%.

Super fun little neighborhood place. Perfect fix when you are jonsing for a potato pancake! The whole place is vegan, every single thing is very hardcore strictly vegan. Came here for brunch and the menu was a bit limited. Sadly we didn’t get our spatzel. But we did get our potato pancake fix. Tons of fun beers to choose from. Nice people. No parking on site!! Street only and it does get tricky. Awesome outdoor patio/courtyard area.

Loved this place. Best German Vegan cuisine in the Eagle Rock/Highland Park area. I'm not vegan nor vegetarian by no means. But I loved the atmosphere and the kind welcomes from the owner and staff. You will be impressed by the great tasting food you will see my bill and the food I ordered. Everything a man should eat, it was hearty, flavors blended well and had no regrets eating at this fine establishment. I took the strudel to go. But it had a scoop of ice cream that was delicious and paired well with the apple strudel. Enjoy the food and the company when you get there. I plan to revisit the location again.

Hinterhof for the win! So look. I have been a lax vegetarian my whole life pretty much. During the start of the pandemic I decided to go completely vegan and along with that came the discovery of a plethora of amazing vegan restaurants I did not even know existed. Since I discovered Hinterhof while dining was closed I began ordering take out. Let me tell you. My every first meal, the fritter, with mash potatoes and red cabbage, literally was like Thanksgiving. I fell out on my bed with such satisfaction, but did not feel heavy at all. There is such a difference in how your body feels when you eat food without dairy and meat, and with a fresh purity to it. Finally dining opened and my best friend from high school and I decided to come together and sit in. It was his first time and my first time experiencing the brunch. Looook, when I tell you, the portions are so huge I already knew I was taking a doggy back home. Swedish Oatmeal pancakes and Benedict for me. I mean thee perfect flavors. Everything I've ever had at Hinterhof has just made me roll my eyes and do a little dance. Not only that, but my best friend and I were so happy we could sit, eat and talk and we did for like 6 hours. By the time we left it was night. Every single person on the staff was wonderful. Just wonderful.
