Where to Eat at the Fiesta San Antonio 2022 - Eater Austin

"It feels like a fiesta in Market Square all year round, but the cultural hub ups the ante during Fiesta. This 10-day event features huge lineups of live performances across multiple stages and more than 30 food and drink booths serving up San Antonio classics, including Mexican cuisine, chicken on a stick, and aguas frescas. Fiesta De Los Reyes runs from Friday, April 1 to Sunday, April 10, and is free to attend. Food and beverages are individually priced." - Polly Anna Rocha

"No visit to San Antonio is complete without spending at least a few hours in Market Square, a sprawling indoor mall that’s among the largest of its kind outside of Mexico. Stroll past wares ranging from piñatas and pottery to accordions and cowboy hats, taking in all the different colors. Once you’ve had your fill of shopping, fuel up at one of the many on-site eateries, such as Mi Tierra or La Margarita, or head to the stage for some live entertainment."

San Antonio’s iconic Market Square is the heart of downtown festivities, especially during the city’s famous Fiesta celebrations each April. The square comes alive with mariachi bands, folkloric dancers, and local food stalls, creating a joyful atmosphere that, as per Visit San Antonio and the San Antonio Report, captures the city’s multicultural essence. Year-round, Market Square also hosts smaller festivals and live performances rooted in Latinx heritage.

Highly recommend this place. So much colorful stuff that fulfills the eyes. Great place to take pictures. Fyi bathroom use @ $2 per person in some stalls. When we went the public bathroom was closed. Parking was $10. They do have the Mariachi Cafe & pastries, a must try!!!!!

Google
This was such an awesome experience! The location had an incredible variety of vendors offering handmade items, from unique crafts to beautiful artwork. The food selection was equally impressive, with delicious options to suit every taste. The atmosphere was so welcoming, and everyone was friendly and eager to answer any questions I had about their products or services. I loved the sense of community and the passion everyone brought to their work. It's clear that a lot of thought and effort went into creating such a unique location. I left feeling inspired and can’t wait to come back!

Google
There is not much to say about this location as it was closed when we got there, which wasn't that late, but it was Sunday. There is a lot of construction in the area. It was recommended that we stop there for some authentic food.

Market Square in San Antonio is like stepping into a vibrant cultural fiesta with a twist of New Orleans flair. As someone who’s wandered through markets across Central and South America, I felt right at home—but with the added bonus of not needing a passport. The colorful stalls, the lively energy, and the irresistible smell of food made it a feast for all the senses. The architecture even gave me a bit of a French Quarter vibe, like San Antonio and New Orleans had a cultural baby that grew up loving tacos. The shops were packed with everything from handcrafted treasures to items you didn’t know you needed. Music was everywhere and every corner had something to eat. If you love food, music, and shopping (and maybe a little sensory overload), Market Square is your happy place. Just don’t blame me when you leave with an empty wallet and a full stomach.

Google
This was a neat place to walk around. It felt like we were in a market in Mexico which made for a fun and unique experience. I did expect to see more Sant Antonio related souvenirs, but still enjoyed our time there.

Renee Richmond

Google
Loved the time we spent here today. Parking was convenient, and there was so much to look at. And Mi Tierra never disappoints.

Google
This wonderful Mexican store offers a diverse selection of goods, ranging from clothing to pottery. While Google Maps indicates a 6 PM closing time, it's worth noting that the staff typically begins closing up around 5 PM. Conveniently, benches are available for seating, and restrooms are located at each corner of the store.

Google
This place is great. We love coming here anytime we visit San Antonio. It's fun to walk around and shop with a cerveza for your faza.

Yelp
What an amazing experience!! So rich and full of culture and history. Very stand we visited was so charming and welcoming. So my wife got nostalgic of how it was like Mexico. So much to choose from and such great prices!!! We had a hard time choosing silver jewelry but we found just the right one. Fantastic and huge selection. Must visit when in San Antonio

Yelp
This market is tourist spot. Great place to experience Mexican small town experience. Parking surrounding the area will require a fees. That includes market parking. The store below the parking is big shopping center with varying flea markets. You can see many item great for souvenirs to take home. After the flea market, there are shop along the strip. It includes restaurants for dining experience. The visit takes two hours. Decorating amenities great for pictures.

Yelp
We stopped by and checked out the dia de los muertos festival. They had street vendors as well as multiple stages with Mariachis. It was a great way to connect back with my roots. We also enjoyed the oferendas located throughout the market and picked up souvenirs.

Yelp
This was a nice place to visit and walk around. Since we came to get lunch, we didn't spend too much time inside the building looking at all the vendors. The outside area is cute, and it's nice to just walk around and relax. We tried La Margarita in the square, and it was delicious.

Yelp
Inviting and fun. A lot of things to look at with inexpensive prices. Great place for souvenirs and stuff like that. Friendly workers there.

Delaney M.

Yelp
This was a fun area! The shops and booths were all really fun with unique items. The food stands outside were good, but they did not have any prices listed and did not let us look at the tablet that would show the amount before charging us, and it ended up being extremely expensive for just a Gordita and quesadilla. Other than that, this was a really fun area.

Yelp
On a regular day this is a nice place to chill and hangout. I would bring folks here that haven't been and are looking for a taste of San Antonio, whether it be for food, trinkets, or whatever. During Fiesta, it's about the same but x10. During Fiesta de los Reyes, this place gets crazy full. There plenty of food and drinks stands...serving a myriad of tacos, gorditas, nachos, chicken on a stick, aguas frescas (regular and adult), turkey legs, helites, etc. Music is played from at least six stages. It gets busy. The stores are still open and the folks who own their own store are super friendly. Parking anywhere downtown during Fiesta is terrible. I paid $22 solely because I had my mom and the kiddos. If you can park a little farther out (like beyond UTSA, etc.), you can walk in. Just understand that Fiesta is its own animal. This place is connected to a couple of notable, but also touristy, spots owned by the La Familia Cortes in MiTierra and La Margarita. You can have a great time here, just pay attention to the time of year.

Yelp
My only regret was not being able to spend more time here. Amazing time just sampling all the food and shopping. My wife heard about this place and we went to check it out. It's an outside and inside market with plenty of vendors selling everything from Mexican food to Luchador masks. They also had live music and dancing. It was so much fun going from shop to shop looking through all the stuff. Great place to grab souvenirs and bite after bite of delicious Mexican food. When I come back this is on my list for sure except I'll make sure to carve out a whole day next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of cool Mexican art outside. Great looking murals. Places to eat. Swings etc. on the inside you will find several vendors, food vendors etc. Great spot to take some pictures and check out local art and street vendors. I believe they also have events here. I need to make it a point to stop here often. I stay at the hotel a few blocks away. Stop by and check them out. You will find t shirts. Mexican wrestling masks and all types of Mexican imports at a fair price. I got a nice all black Kobe t shirt on sale for 4.00!

Yelp
Would have never had this place on our list of things to do in San Antonio, but our hop on/hop off tour stopped here and we decided to check it out. Ended up enjoying our time at the market. It's essentially an indoor and outdoor Mexican themed shopping mall with a few restaurants and bars mixed in. It was hot as hell that day, so we were very happy to go into the air conditioned indoor mall to cool off. Lots of stuff that you would find across the boarder, some cheep kinda crappy stuff, but there was also plenty of really nice things too. Especially silver and jewelry. Best part was taking a few breaks for some pretty good margaritas! Ended up buying a couple of t-shirts, some Mexican bakery and a number of margaritas.... Then caught our bus to finish the tour.

Yelp
Nice area for a walk and to enjoy typical Mexican food. Market Square is like walking into a Mexican market with lots of folklore and definitely a cultural immersion for those who are not familiar with Mexican culture. Nice place to spend a couple of hours. A little taste of Mexico in the US via San Antonio.

Yelp
Very touristy location , you get to experience Mexico , flavors , drinks , aguas frescas ( cantaloupe pineapple and tamarind are my favorites) , street tacos stands , and a variety of goods at the market , classic Mexican market you can find absolutely everything, from hats , textiles, silver jewelry, spices, etc , very good variety of traditional Mexican . I got nice small silver and turquoise hook earrings for $35 dollars I found it lovely and affordable. Tacos $15 a plate of 4 mix carne asada pastor y pollo , with fresh guacamole salsa verde onions and cilantro. Gorditas were really delicious and fresh made corn tortillas ! To die for! Live music on the plaza park , very beautiful classic songs by a lady on a traditional Mexican costume giving amazing vibes , people extremely friendly , customer service outstanding that Mexican hospitality! We enjoyed this experience very much , from the best at San Antonio I will say this was my favorite they have drawing artist on site we got a beautiful one for our anniversary with our doggy . Big parking lot . $10 fee . Super Safe area. Short walk around the whole market place . Inside air conditioner. Perfect spot for souvenirs shopping. We also got a leader gun holster for my husband beautiful they engraved his initials on it was included! rich experience that was unexpected the owner or manager made sure we got pampered and leaving happy the store had a strong delightful leader smell inviting inside a variety of boot and hats and leader goods ! I got him a money holder clip with a Texan star we loved this store in the last corner to the right outside the market excellent customer service the staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the products. All made in Mexico .

Yelp
After walking around the city in circles we finally found the historic market. We came on a Friday afternoon and there was hardly any shoppers. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed. I expected to see clay pottery, talavera tiles, Mexican art and handcrafted goods. Instead, it was a lot of cheap overpriced souvenirs and many vendors are selling the exact same stuff. It wasn't the lively, vibrant place I saw in pictures but maybe I came on the wrong day. I did buy a small cup of pineapple juice that cost me $8.00 ! If you choose to visit here, Friday around noon is not the time to go.
google avatar

Yelp
The Historic Market Square is filled with local shops, performers, and restaurants. So, on the right day, you could spend a few hours here exploring the culture of San Antonio. There weren't any live performances while we were there, but we did have the best churros of my life from ChurroStar. You can see more of our experience and the fantastic churros on our YouTube Travel Channel: https://youtu.be/jyI6PgfGMQ0

Yelp
Great shops and little eateries. Everyone is super friendly. This is a great place to find stuff you won't see anywhere else in town.

Yelp
Definitely recommend this tourist spot! It's only a 15-20 minute walk from the riverwalk and alamo! This is a huge marketplace filled with cultural goods and food! I browsed through all the vendors and found nice souvenirs here! Highly recommend that you browse around first before buying your souvenir- many vendors sell similar items but have different prices! Food wise, I tried a few Mexican pastries from Mi Tierra - there was a huge line and it was definitely worth it! I got this swirly bread that had no filling but it was chewy and crumbly; I also got a blueberry turnover that was crispy and flaky! I really appreciated that they weren't too sweet!! For drinks, I saw people holding a small barrel looking container and found out that it was Agua Frescas. The vendor I chose gave me samples - I tried Horchata and Pineapple, and although I liked them both, I opted for the pineapple since it was more refreshing for a hot day! If you need a seat after shopping or want to avoid the heat, at the end of the block there is indoor seating, restrooms and food stalls!

Yelp
So nice we visited twice! Went Saturday and Sunday on our recent trip to San Antonio. This is the largest Mexican market in the country, and this particular site has been a public market for over 100 years. We absolutely loved it! We shopped. We ate. We drank. I had chichirrons, and my wife had street tacos. There were so many food and beverage carts it was kind of overwhelming. Shops are located indoors and outdoors. The weather was outstanding, and we spent all our time outside both days, but did venture inside a couple of times. This is a totally family-friendly environment. Everyone was so friendly, and there were no incidents amongst 1000s of people walking around in a pretty confined space. Totally free entrance. Totally clean. Just a mile from our hotel. We had an amazing couple of days here and will definitely return on our next trip to San Antonio.

Yelp
We dined nearby & wanted to take a look around. This place is massive & there is lots to see. In the main section they do have a few food & drink vendors. There are tons of booths & some booths sell some of the same types of things as others. Definitely a place to browse around & see what each booth has to offer.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! It was like being in Mexico. The shops were all unique with so many offerings from Mexico. They sell everything from clothing to toys. There are small dining areas and numerous street vendors with amazing food. The market offers many affordable options and the service is excellent. I was able to purchase gifts for everyone and a few things for myself. I loved the energy it gave with wonderful lively music and positive vibes. Try it but allow yourself time because there's a lot to enjoy.

Yelp
A Fun and Unique Place to Visit! The market square is comprised of several buildings including several restaurants and numerous little shops selling just about any south of the border related item. We had no problem finding parking as there are several lots on the square and street parking. Cart vendors are selling fresh made churros, fruit bars, fruit drinks, etc. A bakery with an extensive display case offers many hard to resist items. A variety of tasty snacks and food is available inside the buildings. We were amazed at how many families were buying the fresh spun cotton candy. We really enjoyed browsing through the small shops that sit side by side with gorgeous hand painted pottery, dishes, yard art and more. Several leather shops offer very reasonably priced leather goods of exceptional quality. What is most impressive is how many items these vendors fit into their shops. Every inch of wall and ceiling space is covered with items for sale. Typically, one narrow walkway winds through the store - no room for strollers. We did see and hear some strolling mariachis who sang songs by request for anyone who was willing to put a few bucks in their hand. Their website has details on the shops, eateries and entertainment schedule. We think it's a must visit place if it's your first time in San Antonio.

Yelp
This was a great place to shop, enjoy food and drinks, and just be entertained by the folks am walking through. Experience the culture with some A/C. Great for shopping and family time.

Yelp
This market is very vibrant. Especially on the weekend. Lots of places to shop with local, handmade goods. Not to mention food and drink vendors. Have to visit when in San Antonio.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the Best corn cup I've had. Fresh Roasted corn...not from a can. You will not be disappointed. Throw some delicious creamy, spicy toppings on top and give it a mix. Head down to Market Square and look for Corn Hub

Zachary L.

Yelp
Be aware of these . They would come over and yell at you not to take a photo of them even though if you just take a photo of the market entrance
google avatar

Guy W.

Yelp
This is a must do when visiting San Antonio! You can find endless shops with great handmade crafts from down south and beyond. Spend your money here where the money goes directly to the artist :)
google avatar

Susanne B.

Yelp
Should have paid more attention to the opening hours! We visited on a weekend in April, when the city was still super busy with eclipse watchers but on a late afternoon, the Market Square was unexpectedly deserted. Stores were just closing, outside vendors were packing up. The only places open were two restaurants. We saw a few live musicians going back and forth between the restaurants. If you visit, definitely go in the middle of the day. Just smaller and not the atmosphere I had expected.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
Very festive colors. Many things to look at. Great way to spend the afternoon. I wish there were more street vendors.
google avatar

Lanette L.

Yelp
Always fun! I enjoy the markers square for shopping over the river walk because it seems more authentic and they have the best micheladas!
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
We found nearby parking for $5. Lots of the stores sell the same things, so if you're interested in buying something, shop around! There were outdoor and indoor stalls. Lots of colorful ceramics, bags, sweaters, earrings, and small snacks. There were beautiful lace paper squares hanging across the walkway. It's a nice place to show someone besides the Riverwalk! I'm not sure if the vendors change frequently, but I would visit this place maybe once a year. Nothing too special, but fun to walk around!
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
This is where the action is in San Antonio! The Riverwalk is nice (& only about a 15-20 minute walk from here) but if you want the sights and sounds of San Antonio go here! Visit the Mercado, eat at one of the restaurants, try a drink to go. There's a great energy here and everyone around you is feeling it. Such a great place with tons of vendors and restaurants. Want a unique gift? Visit this place! I even got a bottle of vanilla extract from Mexico that I can't wait to use! Lots of fun imported Mexican items are available. Give yourself time to wander around and take it all in.
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
What a fun experience! Be sure to visit on weekends to enjoy the live music and the full bustle of the market. This market in the largest Mexican market in the United States. There's so much to see and do. You'll easily spend a few hours here. Food, over 100 locally owned vendors, music, and drinks. It's a great time!

Lauren M.

Yelp
We enjoyed taking the kids for Spring Break. So many different shops. Shop around for better prices. Music, drinks, food and fun for all.
google avatar

Marcos D.

Yelp
I remember being here many years ago, there were fajita restaurant kiosks up and down the market. It's pleasant enough but it seems to be shadow of its former self, but it might be case of me coming here on week day rather than a weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
Market Square celebrates the Mexican culture and it's influence in San Antonio. I love the casual stroll through the street vendors, shops, and restaurants. Here are eight things I love about Market Square. 1. Agua Frescas - These light and refreshing drinks are made with fresh fruit, water, and sweetener. Popular favorites are melon, mango, and pineapple. But my favorite is the horchata flavor. It is made with soaked white rice and flavored with cinnamon. Delicioso. 2. Roasted Corn Hub - This popular Mexican street food is prepared with melted butter, mayonnaise, and cheese. You can personalize your cup of goodness with a a wide variety of spices and toppings. They even had crushed Flamin' Hot Cheetos as a topping. 3. Mexican Street Tacos - The quintessential authentic taco. The simplicity of tortilla topped with meat, chopped onions, cilantro, and a squeeze lime is hard to beat. 4. Mi Tierra Bakery - The approximately 40 foot bakery case displays four levels of Mexican baked itemss. So hard to pick something. The star cookies and eclairs were some of our favorites. 5. Music and performances- There is lots of loud music and it gives the market a festive atmosphere. There is a small stage where you might catch a live performance. 6. Local laws allow you to walk around the market with an adult beverage. Margaritas are pretty common, but you will also see the unusual michelada (Mexican Bloody Mary). 7. Air conditioned shops - There are several indoor buildings that house indoor souvenir vendors. A wonderful area to escape the south Texas heat. 8. Multiple Mexican restaurants where you can get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In fact, Mi Tierra restaurant is open 24/7.

Yelp
10-27-21 This was an impulsive trip, glad we came. Came for the riverwalk, but the visitor center steered us into this direction also. Quality/Quantity - Fairly authentic, especially compared to the tourist parts of Mexico. Looked like they sold the same products, but cheaper? Atmosphere - Cool place, particularly if you miss Mexico. Day of the Dead celebrations, decor, and stage were all set up around the market square. I am sure the night life would have been even better. Also, it is located next to the Centro De Artes Gallery Service - Plenty of clean public restroom. We came 1 day early, so missed the self-guided tour. Price - N/A Owner Suggestion - Thanks for having this in the community; it is a nice place to hang out, tour, eat/drink and be immersed in different cultures.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
My wife and I walked to the square from the Riverwalk at the suggestion of her cousin. We ate at Mi Tierra, which was so delicious. But the shopping at the square was great with do many nice hand-made goods. I bought a hoodie for only $13. That's an amazing price for a great product!
google avatar

Nycole R.

Yelp
When I travel and take on the persona of tourist, I do things I would not normally do in my typical day-to-day life...like browse through souvenir shops. I do not like to collect anything and only purchase items that have a purpose. So this shopping setup goes against everything I usually gravitate toward. However, when on vacation I do like to get a taste of the local fare and perhaps grab a little something to remember my visit. Near where we were staying is the Market Square-an indoor/outdoor market boasting brightly colored, cheaply made and mostly imported items. There are lots of people, upbeat music and an energy that lures you in. Here, you can find a variety of articles of clothing, hats and shot glasses. I was looking for something that I could take to my son-something practical-ish that I wouldn't mind seeing around the house. We visited three separate times (it was a stop on our tour bus), but each time I left empty handed. The hours are a bit limited-they open at ten (or a bit after, really) and close at 4pm. There are restaurants sprinkled throughout, which might draw more people than the actual market. I would have liked to see some more high-quality, artisan made items rather than so many cheap things that were mass produced. Or more "consumable" items such as soaps, candles, candies, etc. But if you're looking for a souvenir without having to spend a lot of money, you just may find something here.

Yelp
Just fabulous and I highly recommend! The Historic Market is clean, unique and not one vendor was pushy trying to sell their items. My family and I had a fantastic time at the Market.. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! There was live entertainment including on stage dancing groups, live singers and so many unique shops/vendors. You can spend the day there. We purchased bakery at a Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery. A+ So delicious! You will be so delighted and happy to visit here. I highly recommend this Fun and exciting Market!

Yelp
This is a DEFINITE MUST STOP when visiting San Antonio!!! Good food, music, vendors, shopping and a wonderful friendly atmosphere. I had a good time shopping and making memories with my family.

Carol N.

Yelp
We stopped here before leaving town. We arrived when they first opened. We were able to shop and buy a few 'trinkets and treats" without huge crowds. With or without lots of people, shopping and eating there is fun!

Yelp
Temperature checks: check Hand sanitizer stations: check Compliant mask wearing customers: check Indoor AC to combat the brutal heat: Big check! Felt very safe and thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Yelp
Authentic and full of anything and everything you want from Mexico including some nice clothing and different kinds of cooking vanilla! Very interesting! I don't like it when they don't mark prices though and it always makes me walk away.
google avatar

Yelp
Best place to find truly Mexican inspired gifts--there is a good variety of items, but many of the shops carry the same items

Anthony J.

Yelp
If you seen one shop in there you have seen them all. Seriously. They all are about the same. Prices as well. It's interesting if you have never been. Go visit but it's all the same. Nothing really sticks out oh yes one thing does , the heat!!! I think they have to pay extra for the AC......if you been there 10 yrs ago. It's the same..

Yelp
Such a fun marketplace and landmark in San Antonio to check out. Parking is available on the street which you may have to pay for. There are lots of street foods and drinks available like aguas frescas and tacos. The flags are very pretty to check out and a great place to take photos. A very lively area!

Yelp
I love always going to this place when I am looking for the special souvenir gift. I actually was looking for a crucifix for a friend of mine, so that he can put on his living room wall. And we stopped in the store called "Little Mexico Imports". Like all the other stores in this little indoor shopping center, they have a bunch of trinkets and stuff, and a wide assortment of wall crucifix's from large to small. This market square also has a a couple jewelry stores, clothing stores, along with a couple of ice cream vendors, which came in handy since it was 105 degrees out, with a heat index of 108. However, some of the stores only take cash, so you can either bring cash with you, or there is an ATM inside the square (not sure what the ATM fee was though). Another thing to keep in mind, some of the vendors have similar items, to take a look through out all the stores to make sure that you don't find something similar at another store. Plus if the weather is not to hot outside, there are stores outside of the market square that might have what you are looking for as well. Happy Hunting.

Yelp
Great place to get a little culture and a lot of shopping along with eating some authentic Mexican /TexMex food! A lot of shops here to explore and enjoy the assorted vendors. Too bad due to weather, the area is deserted but love to come back with its full and enjoy the atmosphere!
