Comfortable, airy-chic eatery serves wood-grilled meats & seafood plus wine & cocktails.
"The Deal: Two-course lunch for $25 per person, three-course dinner for $39 per person Why We Like It: Hiway Cantina is the perfect place to fuel up before an EaDo bar crawl. And for HRW, you can swing by during dinner for a plate of enchiladas smothered in green chile gravy and a cup of chile con queso with a roughly foot-high cheese pull. After you finish with a slice of cinnamon roll cheesecake, you’ll be ready to use your Tex-Mex-induced energy to tear up the dance floor at the next spot. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"A little rustic and a little retro, the Tex-Mex restaurant HiWay Cantina in EaDo comes from the team behind EZ’s Liquor Lounge and Lightnin’s Good Times. The food fits the archetype for a standard Tex-Mex spot (chile con queso, fajitas giant prickly pear margaritas that require two people to finish.) It’s good, but it’s the energy at Hiway Cantina that we want to bottle up and take home. Solo diners at the bar chat with bartenders like they’re old buddies. And the roar of laughter from groups of friends feels like part of the background music. After spending an hour or two swaying to music and eating enchiladas, we’re motivated to keep the fun going at a bar down the street." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Just minutes away from Minute Maid Park, Agricole Hospitality’s Tex-Mex restaurant is the perfect pre- or post-game pitstop, especially during happy hour. Find $8 margaritas served frozen or on the rocks, a stellar $8 Mexican martini, $3 green chile chicken empanadas, and $3 wood-fired oysters, which are worth visiting for all on their own. Other highlights include the very sharable $6 birria nachos, and the combination fajita platter, which on Tuesdays are half-priced. Make it a full-night affair by wandering into its neighboring sister bar, Lightnin’s Good Times, which features live music, pool, and arcade games." - Brittany Britto Garley

"Agricole Hospitality transformed its East Downtown spots Indianola and neighboring bar Miss Carousel into a Tex-Mex restaurant named HiWay Cantina that has its own cocktail bar counterpart called Lightnin’ Good Times. With its close proximity to Downtown, HiWay offers a convenient escape from the office for lunch, with worthy taco and enchilada plates, plus a number of combination platters." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain
