14 Exceptional Taiwanese Restaurants in NYC - Eater NY

"Just west of Times Square, Ho Ho Té is a stand-alone bubble tea spot with exceptional-quality beverages and a pleasant outdoor table or two where you can watch the passing tourist parade. Fruit drinks and slushies are a particular specialty, ice-cold, delivered in a variety of sizes. The subsidiary food fare runs to popcorn chicken, Taiwanese sausages, and eel or pork chop over rice." - Robert Sietsema

Times Square Restaurants Open for Takeout and Outdoor Dining Right Now - Eater NY

"What beverage goes best with a stroll across Times Square? Bubble tea and its ilk should be in the running, and this parlor of Taiwanese beverages, including milk teas, matchas, and fruit-based beverages, all can have tapioca pearls that bob up and down in the frothy drinks added at your request. More substantial snacks like popcorn chicken, fried calamari, and sweet potato fries are also available. There are a few tables on the sidewalk." - Robert Sietsema

This is a nice little spot with seating off of Times Square. We got the oolong milk tea with 50% sugar. The taste was pretty good, but not wow good. The drink can with a cardboard straw that actually stabbed through the plastic lid!

Midtown doesn’t have many bubble tea shops, so this is a convenient spot for anyone in the area craving bubble tea. However, I found their tea to be a bit underwhelming—the tea flavor was too weak for my liking, and the balance of flavors in the milk tea didn’t quite hit the mark for me. On the other hand, their food offerings really stood out! The popcorn chicken was fantastic—crispy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. It’s definitely worth stopping by for the snacks, even if the drinks didn’t impress me as much.

The takoyaki is definitely fresh and comes with all the fixin’s. My girlfriend ordered a pork rice bowl which seemed like a good deal, but I’m a simple man. I see takoyaki, I order.

Went here to try the dog on a stick. It's definitely a different spin on it. They had cheese on a stick covered with your choice of sweet potatoe or regular potato or breading. I had the cheese on a stick with sweet potato and the braise pork on white rice. They were delicious. The braise pork was flavored just right. I would say give this place a shot.

This is a nice little spot with seating off of Times Square. We got the oolong milk tea with 50% sugar. The taste was pretty good, but not wow good. The drink can with a cardboard straw that actually stabbed through the plastic lid! The $5.00 tea can be combine with a snack for half price, which is a great deal. We got the sweet potato fries for 2.50 and they were AMAZING! Sweet and salty flavor and a good sized portion. Best sweet potato fries we’ve had anywhere.

Okay it’s in the city center of Times Square with an open seating area which is really nice. The shop is a small intimate space with modern decor with an electric kiosk. Convenient for self check out and self paid which is really effective. There is a long wait time for the cold tea which is unfortunate. But the teas tastes fine.

Saw this new bubble tea spot opened up by my work in the Times Square area and of course I had to try it! So my co-worker and I decided to come during our lunch break. The interior design of this place is amazing, very modern with Chinese touches. There’s a lot of seating for a bubble tea place; you can find seating along the right side where you wait to pick up your drinks and also in the back. Which is perfect because there are also snack option here so you don’t have to eat on the go if you didn’t want to. I got the roast oolong and I really enjoyed it. This place uses paper straws which is amazing for the environment! But you might want to grab an extra one because my paper straw started to melt on me 😅 The popcorn chicken is really good and crispy! I would definitely come back to try their other drinks and snacks! There is also ice cream here but my co-worker said it’s not creamy but more on the icy side.

Google
Love the creativity of this place when it comes to hot dogs and corn dogs! Bravo. However one tip: you should tell customers that sauces for the corn dogs come ON the whole hot dog. It overpowers the taste when it’s all over the corn dog and also makes it messy to eat. I think you would be better to offer the sauces on the side for dipping. Hopefully this helps. I’ll be back!

Yelp
My absolute favorite boba place, I will love it forever. Vibe is very casual, there are some seats to sit and eat your food. Not too loud or bright either. However this probably depends on the amount of people inside. Service is fast considering they also do takeout/delivery orders. Everything comes out in a timely manner. I can recommend almost everything from the menu. My usuals are the plain milk tea, taro milk green tea, and pink flush. The boba is well done, a perfect texture. Milk tea balances flavor perfectly. Taro green tea is definitely a must try. Pink flush is the perfect drink if you are a grapefruit person. Drink quality is super consistent. Their drinks are also not too sweet, even the regular sugar.

Yelp
Service: 4/5 Drinks: 4/5 Ambiance: casual, lively Small shop, mostly catered towards takeout. Solid menu, quick service + they also serve corn dogs. Love that they use fresh fruits. What I Ordered: - Ho Ho Fruity: fruity, refreshing, not too sweet - Roasted Oolong: didn't try, but smelled so fragrant - Oolong Milk Tea: slightly too milky

Yelp
We stopped by on a rainy day for some boba, and were left pretty disappointed. Most warningly, their pearls were not fully cooked, and had solid, hard parts in the middle. This really doesn't feel acceptable at a boba shop, and I'm surprised they don't have any quality assurance to make sure this doesn't happen. Might honestly not even have been food safe for us to eat, but who knows. The milk tea itself had good strong tea flavor, but was way too sweet for our taste (even at 50% and 25%). I like a well balanced milk tea, with the bitterness of the tea playing off the sweetness, but this lacked that. Probably won't be back! Wouldn't be surprised if we just caught them on an off day, but there's definitely better consistent boba to be had around.

Yelp
My green tea latte tasted kind of paste-y. I would probably not go back. The fruit tea tasted better.

Yelp
Love stopping here for their bubble tea and for their Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Honestly it's my favorite item on the menu. If you're not a huge spicy person, I'd recommend getting it without the seasoning. It comes out piping hot, so be careful if you're eating it right away!

Yelp
Consistently delicious!! My sister and I always get the taro milk green tea, and the tea is strong and brewed fresh, and the bubbles are so chewy and soft. Yum!!

Yelp
I've been walking past this for the past few months and also seeing it a lot on Seamless. Finally decided to stop by here for takeout the other day. Ordered a few things to drink and eat for the hubby and me including: - Taiwan pork broiled rice combo - comes with a bubble tea. I also added grilled eel to the dish. The pork with rice is so good, I was surprised by how good the ground pork is. The braised egg and eel were delicious also. The only problem is the broccoli which tasted rather bland and also had a soft texture. But for $14 (without the eel), it's a great deal and I'll definitely be getting this for lunch more often. - Popcorn chicken - first of all, I was pleasantly surprised by how large the portion was for $6. It's also one of the best popcorn chicken I've had - big, substantial chunks of meat that's very tender and moist on inside while crispy on outside. I also like that the popcorn chicken felt crispy without too much coating or batter. - Also ordered the Baby Face which is almost like a chrysanthemum tea that comes snow (white) fungus as a topping. It's not a very sweet drink which I appreciate and I also like the goji berries floating around in there. This drink made me feel very Asian, in a good way. I'll definitely be coming back for more servings of the popcorn chicken and pork rice and will also try out some of the other drinks.

Yelp
I ordered oolong milk tea and popcorn chicken. Tea tasty is strong and chicken is crispy and flavorful. Next time will try fruit tea
google avatar

Kellicia Y.

Yelp
The popcorn chicken was good. I ordered spicy and it wasn't evenly coated but that's okay because it gives your mouth taste buds a break. Service was fast and pleasant and it has a nice interior.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite boba spots in the city after trying it the other day. I recommend 75% sugar level for their drinks - it puts it in this sweet spot where it's sweet enough but still gives you that fresh tea flavor that really shines through in both their warm matcha and their taro. Could see myself coming back to try some of their other drinks in the future !

Yelp
TLDR: my favorite after school snack! I live quite close to Ho ho té so I'm really happy that it ended up being a pretty decent boba place! My go to snack is the popcorn chicken and a pink flush or oolong milk tea. Popcorn chicken is quite good, one of my favorites in the city. I also like the mung bean cakes whenever they're available. I've had the eel and braised pork bowls and both are good but I think if I had to choose one it will always be the popcorn chicken. The service is quite friendly - they always greet me and know that I'm looking for the mung bean cake. The shop is pretty small so it typically gets crowded but the queue goes by fast.

Yelp
Great little place for bubble tea, drinks and some snacks / quick meals. They have some very unique items on the menu. The names of some drinks are cute and/or poetic - I already have my eyes and mind and heart set on the drink "babyface" for my next visit! Lol Tried four season green tea and heat wave this time. Four season green tea was decent - it's on the lighter side. Heat wave is super refreshing with the tantalizing passionfruit flavor - it really lived up to its name and is perfect for beating the heat wave! Special shout-out to this place for using environmentally friendly straws!! This is a hugeee plus for me - love a place that cares about our planet! There are couple tables/seatings in the front and one more in the back.

Rhonda B.

Yelp
I have enjoyed multiple orders of the eel bowl, when serviced by Pauline, who provides outstanding service. However, when she is not there a Hispanic male employee behaves angry and aggressive as though he wants to beat me. He snatches receipts from my bag, if I ask for a receipt that displays my total balance, rips the paper seal from the hot tea cup, when I request a lid to cover the hot tea. Not placing a seal and lid on a hot beverage could lead to me burning myself. On several occasions the cup lost its form and lid separated causing me to nearly drop the cup. I have noticed that the food does not taste the same when he takes and prepares my order. The same food that usually tastes good-the tea is too strong and the eel bowl does not taste as good as it usually does. I have decided not to place orders with him any longer and to wait for Pauline to return and place my order. To avoid his aggressive and unpleasant behavior. I am fearful that he may do something untoward to my food.

Yelp
When it comes to bubble tea, most are kinda similar to me. But you know what a bad one is like in just one sip - either the bubble texture and/or taste is off or the (milk)tea is off. This place serves not fully cooked bubbles so they are hard, and the milk tea doesn't taste very good as well. The lychee drink is a little bitter.

Yelp
Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 8 Needed a quick meal before a Saturday matinee Broadway show, thankfully this little Taiwanese beverage shop was nearby. We were able to make it on time and ate a delicious meal. First of all, their signature Ho Ho Fruity drink was refreshing and tasty. I would definitely recommend it. However, did not like the Coconut Milk Green Tea. As for the food, the Popcorn Chicken was excellent. Crispy, tender, flavorful - I wish I could have brought a box of it into the theater. Lol Ho Ho Chicken Burger was good because the chicken (probably thigh meat) was once again fried very well. However, the bread needs improvement. Lastly, the Braised Pork on Rice was surprisingly delicious. I would not mind having this dish regularly. Compared to Flushing or Chinatown prices, it's certainly more for what you get. However, considering the location and all the tourist traps nearby, this is a decent option for a quick bite.

Yelp
Say hi hi to Ho Ho Té in Hell's Kitchen! The Lychee Not Martini ($6.50 large) and the Brown Sugar Tea Latte ($6.00 medium) won me over. As with most tea shops, you can customize ice and sugar levels to your preference. Bubbles and other toppings are 50¢ extra. The boba were somewhat inconsistent but the teas were delightful! Though I'm not super keen on the cardboard straws and if I ever remember, I'll have to bring my own straw. It doesn't seem like there's a restroom, and seating is limited (the table in the front always seems to be occupied). Try ambling over to the outdoor space across from Churrascaria Plataforma and next to Starbucks for sitting and sipping your beverage.

Yelp
Got the Pink Flush and Heat Wave. Both delicious fruity drinks that I recommend. The popcorn chicken is bomb too. I don't know what Rhonda is on about but the guy worker is super chill and I think I would trust him to hold my firstborn child. He makes delicious food. The music is amazing, with a wide range of genres you don't expect. I would 100% come back.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute lil boba & taiwanese food/snacks place, and I am all for it. So happy to have finally found this solid taiwanese cafe in the city! The seating area isn't as large as it was shown in previous pictures on yelp - they closed off their entire back area. When I went last week, there were two only 3 tables with a total of 6 seats. I tried to study here but it was uncomfortable - it got hot and stuffy despite having all the windows pulled down, and the smell of cigarettes kept pouring in from outside loiterers. For food, I ordered the popcorn chicken and braised pork over rice, and for the drink, I got the pink flush (grapefruit green tea) with boba. The popcorn chicken was good - crispy outside with juicy meat inside. Braised pork over rice tasted amazing! The only thing is that the portions are small and there were only 2 pieces of sausage slices in there, but otherwise worth it. The drink was also great, and the boba was soft and chewy. Would definitely recommend all 3 of these food items! I wish food portions were a bit bigger and that there would be more seating space, and I probably wouldn't try to study again here. But overall, amazing place with yummy food and boba. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Ordered pink flush, light sugar, regular ice. So good! Finish it right away. Wish I purchased two of them! Recommended to give it a try!

Yelp
You can order at the counter or on a kiosk. We were intrigued by the boba float sign outside the door. You can get it was black or green tea. We tried black milk tea which came with boba and a small ice cream floater. The ice cream was vanilla. We liked the boba and milk tea part. The ice cream was okay but it was cool to try.
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
Got an unsweetened black tea with boba. Not a bad option and was close to my hotel. They offer an ordering kiosk and I realized after the fact the price of my tea was more expensive on the kiosk than on their actual menu so just be sure to check pricing
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
Maybe closer to 3.5. The interior is very clean. There's no seating available these days, but you can still buy some prepackaged snacks and order your drinks to go. We tried the ho ho fruity and the ruby black tea with cream cap. I didn't really like the ho ho fruity, and honestly the fruit at the bottom of the cup did not look super enticing. The black tea was good! I appreciated that the worker double bagged the drinks, it was a thoughtful touch. The paper straw is not my favorite, but it was surprisingly sturdy and didn't crumble at all.
google avatar

Eric N.

Yelp
Best milk tea I've ever had in New York. Highly recommend. The tea is very fragrant and the milk is always the right amount
google avatar

Generous Y.

Yelp
Really rich tea flavor with a drop of milk. Great for tea lovers! Boba is chewy but not too flavorful so that's the only downside here. I had the chance to try the Green Milk Tea, Black Milk Tea, and Lychee Not Martini. Green Milk Tea - lighter tea as green tea usually is, but still a very present tea flavor. Grassy taste that tastes authentically brewed from tea leaves with a splash of milk that doesn't overwhelm much. Black Milk Tea - much stronger flavor as you expect from black tea. Maybe even sweeter. Also a splash of milk that doesn't overwhelm the tea so it's slightly creamy but tea is still the majority of the drink. Lychee Not Martini - a sour lemonade drink as there's a strong lemon flavor and very minimal lychee. The lychee is masked by the sour lemon, not something I'd order again.

Yelp
no bathroom even though the guy said there was one. he told us to go to McDonald's...ridiculous!
google avatar

Waheda I.

Yelp
It's a cute small spot. Limited seating and if you're by the door it can get a little chilly. But I enjoyed the bubble tea and matcha ice cream. Nice spot to hang out.
google avatar

Janet L.

Yelp
Place was very cute looked like a lil tea shop. Got a oolong milk tea. Did not like it. Found it to be too sweet despite 25% sugar. And cream top was also too salty.
google avatar

Karen r.

Yelp
I like the easy ordering on screen. Got my drink fast and it was very good. I wish the menu was a little more varied.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Stopped by here after a Saturday matinee show. The menu is pretty straightforward and there are some interesting items. Got the ho ho fruity and the popcorn chicken which came to about $15 total. The ho ho fruity drink was refreshing and not too sweet and was pretty good though nothing mind blowing that I haven't had before. The popcorn chicken was good and very tender and juicy. Service was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Chen H.

Yelp
Popular bubble tea spot among coworkers. First time here and I tried their babyface, which has tremella as one of the key ingredients. It was interesting to drink something that my grandma used to make for me when I was sick, but it was tasty for sure.
google avatar

Alicia L.

Yelp
Amazing bentos! I got a popcorn chicken bento plus green milk tea combo and the total came out to be around $17. The popcorn chicken was amazing; one of the most authentic Taiwanese popcorn chickens I've had in New York. The bento also included steamed broccoli, 2 Taiwanese sausage slices and rice. All the ingredients were really fresh and paired well together. The chicken was juicy and perfectly crispy. It was seasoned well and I really enjoyed the spicy powder that was used. The sausage was a great addition to add some diversity in taste. The broccoli was refreshing and the rice quality was great! The tea was pretty good too. I liked the grass jelly. The texture was on the softer side and the tea is on the lighter side. I got 50% sweet and it was perfect for me, but just know that this place does make their drinks a little less sweet than other places.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
We were in the area seeing Hadestown and walked by Ho Ho Te on the way to the theater. We stopped by after the show to get some boba and soft serve. I had the vanilla and matcha and it's a huge cone. Definitely worth the money. Boba was solid and I like that you can order using the touch screen, which lets me browse my options without making the cashier wait for me to make my decision. We also had the Taiwanese ground meat over rice, which was just ok. I would say, come for the boba or the soft serve and skip the rice.
google avatar

Josephine L.

Yelp
Ho ho ho, Merry Crispmas! Santa brings you crunchy Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Braised Pork over Rice, and Mango Slush and Heat Wave to wash 'em down. Is it the best TW fare Santa has to offer? Nah. The benchmark for all popcorn chicken is--was it fried with basil? If no basil, no bueno. Bad Santa. But the Braised Pork was closer to what Mama Taipei had in mind, so I'll give the elves credit for that one. You did good, Sugarplum. And the bevvies were large, fruity and delectably cold. Too bad they don't really turn up the AC here. Rudolph is melting in his harness.

Yelp
[NYC BOBA TOUR STOP #9] Let's start with the good. This place is gorgeous. The doors completely open up so that there's no separation between the inside and outside, and everything feels clean and minimal. I know the drinks themselves are really what matters, but it doesn't hurt that their logo is also nice and pleasing to look at. Also, the popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was very good. I have nothing further to say about that. Now for the drinks themselves: it was kinda a grab bag. I'd say in general the milk teas suffered; you could tell that they were flavored with powder, and it just didn't taste fresh. Also, and I can't overstate it enough, the boba was so weak. They were just too soft, and that's one of the biggest turn-offs for me at any boba shop. The fruit teas fared better among the drinks we got, but none of them were really excellent. We got the Pink Flush with Lychee Jelly (4/5), Coconut Green Milk Tea with Boba (2/5), Ruby Black with Boba (5/5), Taro Milk Green Tea with Boba (2/5), Ho Ho Fruity with Grass Jelly (3/5), and the Black Milk Tea with Boba and Grass Jelly (4/5) All of them were pretty mediocre. Of them, we'd recommend the pink flush the most (and the popcorn chicken).
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
I ordered a Fruit Tea from this spot and it was a great treat on a very hot day. The store has ordering machines and the drinks come out quickly. I wouldn't say this is fantastic boba but it's very solid, especially in a neighborhood of not so great offerings. All in all, if anyone is in the midtown area, this is a solid location to get your boba fix.
google avatar

Meghna B.

Yelp
I was craving bubble tea and was happy to find this gem! I loved the brown sugar milk tea here and my boyfriend enjoyed his drink which was called heat wave. The shop is fairly small with little seating but the service is fairly fast. A great option to try if you're looking for bubble tea near hell's kitchen!
google avatar

Kalyn N.

Yelp
I loved it here. I came here almost everyday for a week and ordered the same thing. I got the baby face and the popcorn chicken. The price isn't too bad and it tastes amazing. Staff was super amazing and kind. The store is kind of small but it's really cute. I love the colors of the store.
google avatar

Darren H.

Yelp
I really love the vibe of this place! Looks super nice but I can't say it was great boba :'( maybe I ordered the wrong thing though. I got the black milk tea with boba (very basic sorry) but honestly the tea was aight, not too strong or flavorful. Milk isn't very impressive, and the boba probably could have used a sweetener and was also just kinda too soft. Might just be my personal preference tho!
google avatar

Monsee W.

Yelp
Not bad not bad. The boba tea is excellent and food is good. I wouldn't come here for food as a priority but certainly would for the drinks. I got the Ho Ho Fruity & and Oolong Tea Latte which both I'd highly recommend. Most boba places I go to serve the drinks way too sweet unless you reduce the sweet level but this place serves them perfect as is. I can appreciate this since sometimes I'll forget to adjust. Highly recommended. Stop by and enjoy a great drink and conversation with an old friend. -Touchdown

Yelp
It's a cute little spot! I go through these phases from time to time where I obsess over a favorite food/drink of mine until I get tired of it and put it back in my normal "rotation." For the past month or so, I've been craving bubble tea and slushies every day but Im really picky. I tried a spot literally around the corner thinking it was this place because Google maps had them at the same location for some reason, they were okay but I got slushes both times and they were far from slush consistency. I happened to stumble across the correct location as I was omw to Sephora and made a mental note to revisit them. I ended up stopping by the next day and got their Ho Ho Fruity Tea with lychee jelly. You can order with the staff or on their kiosk which is nice. I like that they give you an option to choose your ice levels. I like my drinks to be cold (something the other place didn't offer), to me there's nothing worse than lukewarm bubble tea. It was SO REFRESHING, and the perfect amount of sweetness for me (which you can also adjust). I actually prefer drinks that are on the more sour/less sweet side so I was very happy. My drink was made really fast and the woman behind the counter was very nice. I will say that it smelled REALLY good in there so I will be back to try out their food.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
The teas are either super sweet or not lol. But that may be my personal preference. They have a ton of set drinks with interesting options like collagen!
google avatar

Sally V.

Yelp
I have not been to the store by person. My nurses team has been ordering the Four Season Tea And they re so good and unique authentic Taiwanese tea.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
This place has excellent brown sugar Milk with grass jelly that reminds me of the wonderful drinks I've had when I'm in Taiwan. I would definitely recommend anything brown sugar. However the braised pork rice was disappointed. That was basically just minced pork over rice with two slices of taiwanese sausage and some veggies plus a egg. The popcorn chicken was good though.
google avatar

Joy H.

Yelp
Really good boba and really good tea. Nice little shop with good AC to take a quick break from the bustle. Seems like they also have reasonably priced Taiwanese food items on the menu- can't wait to come back and try those another time. Seating is available for about 6 people with 4 tables and an assortment of stools. Staff are nice and really efficient.
google avatar

Kaitlin F.

Yelp
More of a 2.5. I got a black milk tea with boba, 25% sweet and less ice. The tea was ok, nothing special but not as sweet as many places in NY make even 25% sweet tea. But just not a lot of flavor either (it is possible to have low sugar and good flavor). The boba were sadly very uneven. I bit into some that were very undercooked and some that seemed a bit mushy. They taste like they're soaked in brown sugar instead of honey, which is nice. This place is close to my doctors office so I'll probably come back, but I'll try a fruit tea and see if they have crystal boba.

George B.

Yelp
Nice looking place, BUT. Had a long drive home Friday night, online info says they were open until 11pm. We showed up exactly at 10pm and the doors were open, but the person working said it was closed. It was disappointing and the person serving could have addressed the situation much better than just saying several times that they were closed.

Chris K.

Yelp
Great taro milk tea and matcha latte. Would definitely come back again. You order off the kiosk near the counter. They didn't have Thai milk tea on the menu unfortunately.
google avatar

Katherine D.

Yelp
I go to this location whenever I'm in the area. The place is so clean and spacious but no seating is available. The staff is so nice and will give yoe recommendations if you are unsure of what you would like. They also sell some snacks that pair with bubble tea perfectly! They provide a stamp card for your drinks, where every 10th drink is free!

Regis D.

Yelp
Adorable little shop across from my hotel. The oolong tea with boba was lovely and I had, snow crisp flake treats. The staff is helpful and welcoming.
google avatar

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
Ho Ho Te is one of my favorite bubble tea spots, if not my favorite spot. The tea is not too sweet or sugary and the boba is made just right. I recommend the black milk tea with boba. If you get 10 stamps on the punch card, you can earn a free one.
