San Diego’s Best Burgers | Eater San Diego

"Byron and Virginia Hardin started slinging burgers in Ocean Beach back in 1969. In 1991, the pair landed at the current Ocean Beach location on Newport Avenue and, since then, have attracted large crowds due to their hefty burgers. These days, there are two full-fledged restaurant locations — the original in Ocean Beach and downtown — operated by their grandchildren. Hodad’s is probably the most famous name in San Diego burgers, thanks in part to national recognition. Expect behemoth burgers: a double bacon cheeseburger ordered “all the way” is a half-foot tall and more than a meal for two. Lighter fare comes in the form of mini cheeseburgers or hamburgers; one-of-a-kind standouts include the Guy Fieri-inspired Guido with pastrami, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and spicy brown mustard. Must-try side: Get the best of both worlds and order the “Frings” — a mix of both onion rings and fries with crispy, battered exteriors and interiors almost as tender as mashed potatoes." - Roxana Becerril

Wanted to get Hodad's but didn't have time to go so we went to Hodad's at the Ballpark. To be honest, the cheeseburgers had way too much onions and too many pickles. I am a huge fan of both but even for me it was way too much. Also the burger was a bit overcooked but that is understood for the quantity and assembly line like processes at the ballpark. We also got onions rings and fries. It was $14.99 for each cheeseburger then $4.99 for fries and $4.99 for onion rings. We also got ranch dressing which was nice. The employee was chill. Unfortunately the food is probably best at the actual restaurant.

This location at the park is inexcusably slow. Anticipate the crowds by visiting teams, prep/precook the orders and get that line moving! I literally wasted an inning waiting for 1, single burger and some hard, overcooked fries. There were about 15 others waiting as we patiently watched the game via monitors. The burger was mediocre, nothing to write a 5-star review about. Just another old fashioned style thin patty with super large cuts of onions and pickles .

Google
I wish someone besides Hodads was allowed to sell burgers at Petco Park. They are too slow and just cold 9 times out of 10. Rude service too.

Google
Hi y’all ! As a travel content creator, I tried lot of food in different locations. This day, I tried Hodad’s in Petco Park during the Padres game against the Mets of New York. (WE WON GO PADRES AHAHA). The first one is the cheeseburger, really tasty & with great sauce. (Not dry like some others burger I tried before…) The second one is the Petco park special one for Game. Really Awesome, good sauce, with excellent beef & pretty delicious fries. And at the cherry on the cake in souvenir cup, the famous Dr Pepper. Cheers & good meal friend ! My Instagram for more @mr.chacal 🇺🇸📷

Google
Embarrassing to the brand. Basically McDonald's. Thr buger was dry and didnt tast like 100% beef. Texture of the meat suggest the use of filler. Basically terrible. The chicken sandwich place is much better.

Google
Everybody knows that Hodad’s has great burgers and onion rings AND at Petco Park, the best service ever!! My burger was made fresh and the staff was right on my order, even comforting me that it wouldn’t be long. When I asked for a bag of ice, the employee immediately created a bag from something else, and filled it with ice before I could even explain I had banged up my knee. They were all so cool, and made me think it must be a great place to work! I’m not sure whether they were Petco employees versus Hodad’s employees, but I got to say a big THANK YOU to Betty Lou on the third level around section 300.

Google
Hodads at Petco Park is DEAD to me. We are season ticket holders and won't spend a dollar here anymore. Waited until the 4th inning to grab a burger and the location by our seats was closed. Huh. So I went to the location next to Mister Softee by Gallagher Square. Waited in line for 30 minutes only to find out that they had no burgers! Make an announcement, put up a sign!! But no, they had chicken tenders and vegan burgers for sale, so why tell anyone? I was starving so I ordered a Vegan burger. With cheese. Asked if they could keep the onions off, but the girl said no substitutions. So Hodads can substitute all the burgers on their menu, but you have to have onions! I give my receipt to the great older guy, and he tells me it's going to be a long wait. Why, I ask? Because the grill is off, since they ran out of hamburgers! What?!? But he tells me there is one Vegan burger that is made, but wasn't picked up. Im starving and upset now, so I just ate a cold Vegan burger. Without cheese. But with the onions that they forced me to take, which I threw away. I got to watch my buddy devour his awesome Gelatii and Picattii pizza next to me. Seems nobody else ran out of their main ingredient on the final home game. Lame.

Google
Almost $25 for a cold, dry burger and fries. Staff unwilling to swap for warm food when I complained. Stopped here at a friend’s recommendation - spend your money elsewhere

Yelp
06/11/2024 6:40PM padres vs. Athletics 1st time ordering here during a padres game: Really like their ordering system and that it comes quick and ready to serve after you give them your receipt in the other line. Make sure you stand in the right line between order here and pick up. Ordered 2 FTD burgers, chicken strips & fries! & side of onion rings. Came out to be about $54, which is expected since it's conveniently located inside the park. Burgers were great i like the sauce it comes with and the potato wedge fries, the onion rings mightve been overcooked and kind of hard to eat but it could be an off day.. but overall super quick! 5 stars for ERICK A (Spell check) phenomenal service!! Super polite and patient when we were still figuring out what to order, gave us recommendations, even explained how the line worked cuz we stood in the wrong line lol, flagged me down when I almost forgot my receipt! OVERALL, he was the BEST employee that I've came across coming to petco park, and I've been coming here for a longggg time.

Yelp
Fast service, great prices for a ballpark, and vegetarian/ vegan options! I'm typically more if a mock-meat fan, but Hodads vegan patty was pretty good. If you like toppings, you're in luck because my burger came with tons of onions, tomatoes, and pickles. Thankful for a vegan option at Petco Park!

Yelp
Not the greatest first time experience trying Hodads. Cashier didn't tell us we needed a receipt, so when we asked her for one, she gave us the wrong receipt. Luckily noticed the receipt was 2 burgers and fries, and our order 4 burgers and one fry - which luckily they corrected. Long line 40 deep and then about 15 people waiting for their food. Stand in a line to place an order, and then stand in another line to pick up; yikes. Got our food, could tell it was ice cold. Was trying to find sauce on it... couldn't find it. Maybe served plain? Literally got 8 thick slices of onions and about 12 pickle chips. Assuming to make up for the mid quality of the beef and the now cold cheese slice. The fries wedges were actually good. I'm going to guess Hodads at Petco isn't the best representation of the brand. It unfortunately is available at the Stadium, with the Hodads name attached to it, and I couldn't be more disappointed after this experience. Will definitely swing by the other locations sometime,

Yelp
$50 for a cold burger.... Maybe if you wanna just to say you did? One star for the onion rings as part of the $50 meal deal

Yelp
Had a burger and fries before Stadium Tour Motley Crue Poison Def Leppard \m/ It was ok served on small paper container for Fries so it was a balancing act with that gigantic Burger. I have eaten at OB and downtown Hodads This one at the baseball stadium was my least favorite even with a good BUZZ it was just ok The OB location is way better
google avatar

Yelp
Best burgers in town have moved into Petco Park. It's been a while since I caught a ballgame. So glad I'm taking time to enjoy baseball again in downtown San Diego. I've been to their locations in Ocean Beach and downtown (on 10th). Both have great menu options. The Petco Park location has a limited menu. But what they do offer is so spot on and fulfilling, you'll want to go back for more. I recently got the FTD Burger and a hamburger. Not both for just me, but sampled each for sure. Both burgers had patties that were thick n juicy and cooked to perfection. The hamburger was basic, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. They give you ketchup, mayo and mustard packets to suit your tastes. The FTD Burger had meat, cheese, onion rings, Mayo and pickles with bbq sauce. The sauce wasn't overly tangy, but had a nice flavor. Exactly how I like it. Also ordered a side of onion rings. Crispy and delicious! They have locations throughout the ballpark on each levels. Make sure you give them a try if you're craving a great burger while visiting the ball yard. Keep on Yelp'n!

Yelp
0 stars if possible, pretty dang sh**ty. A stadium hot dog is better than this and on top of that they close at 7:30 and this is speaking on a Tuesday on the 28th of may. Nothing states that they close at that time and they do, just a fair warning for anyone who wanted to wait after the dinner rush, you can't. They close at 7:30 so you better be there before or they will close the shutters on you. I literally saw them do it to someone. All in all, if you wanna $45 for a burger, fries and drink you can get at the same quality of Douglas Burger, or less and if you and don't wanna burn the money instead go for it.

Yelp
I bought the overpriced bacon cheeseburger and onion rings at the Petco Park stand, looking forward to having me some Hodad's (been to the OB location several times over the years) before the game started. They placed my purchase atop one of those flimsy POS beverage trays (I did not purchase a beverage from them). The tray was flimsy, as noted, and I made it to my seat carrying it with both hands. After parking my ass I began to indulge. I got through a couple bites and although it was decent tasting, it was lacking something based upon my previous experiences. After those couple of bites I made the mistake of not keeping both hands on this "tray" and lo' and behold the flimsy POS bent downwards and I was unable to stop my burger (and a few onion rings) from tumbling off and to the floor. I was pissed, needless to say, and took a photo (attached) of where it landed (behind the seat in front of me) for your visual enjoyment. What onion rings I had left were edible, but that's about it. On a side note the Padres left a stinker (aka pathetic loss) wearing those terrible/ugly looking Friday home game jerseys.

Yelp
Been here many times. Love their thick and juicy burgers. Their onion rings are nicely seasoned and crispy. Service is always friendly and quick.

Yelp
French fries are terrific and great value . Hamburger was ok . Guess it all depends on if you get a fresh one or not? I got a not too juicy dry one. But the French fries were great.

Yelp
Had to have a burger while here for a Padre's game! There was a location on the concourse right by our seats which was really convenient. The staff was friendly, though the girl who took our order at the register seemed to be new and unfamiliar with the POS system. We were stoked to see that there was a vegetarian option on the menu for my partner, since not many burger spots have options on their menus for vegetarians/vegans aside from sides. We went ahead and ordered a vegetarian burger for her, I got the chicken tenders, and we shared an order of half order frings. Our food came out pretty quick and was fresh. The staff offered us plenty of dipping sauces and any other utensils that we needed. The food was great! Great vegetarian burger patty, and tons of toppings, making it a flavorful burger. The chicken tenders were nice and crispy, and the frings had an equal amount of fries and onion rings that were both fried perfectly. Great meal here that just added to the awesome visit to Petco Park!

Yelp
Food was absolutely horrible. Burger was dry and cold. I asked for "no tomato" and they said "no specials". Seriously? Fries were undercooked and lukewarm at best. Burger and fries were $17 and inedible. Skip it, skip it, skip it. There are plenty of other places to eat at Petco that are much better.

Ann D.

Yelp
Hodad's has been our "go to" burger place for 20+ years, but after eating their cheeseburger & fries at Petco Park, it's as if it were a different burger joint all together. The burgers & fries were dry, cold and tasteless (Burger King would've been tasted better); I ended up trashing the $14 burger because it was terrible!!! Customer service was NOT good - the staff was rude and acted as if it was a bother to place an order. In order to preserve the reputation that Hodad's has built over the years; it might be advantageous to have a Veteran Hodad's employee overlook the Petco Park restaurant - such a disappointment!!

Yelp
Just got back from a padres game and had two cheeseburgers from Hodad's at petco park...the burgers were undercooked and it was all onions and pickles. nasty and a waste of $$. It is NOTHING like Hodads at pacific beach...more like it came from vons or something. GO PADRES! LFGSD!
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Hodad's at Ocean Beach is where Woodstock meets ocean front. This laid back hippy culture may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for something different and want to try one of the largest, best tasting burgers on the planet, this restaurant is worth a visit. We received excellent fun customer service. I am however removing one point for a lack of restroom cleanliness. This place is a popular hangout for locals. In 2007 Hodad's was featured on Guy Fieri's Food network program "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives"

Yelp
Solid burger option at the ball park. Not as good as the OG location due to the limited menu but the burger was decent. Dont come here expecting the OG experience. its a counter that only does fries rings and burgers that arent customizable which is a huge bummer. Line moves fast and customer service is solid. If im craving hodads I'll go to their original locations.
google avatar

Dulce R.

Yelp
Let me start by saying Hodads in OB is good, if not great on most occasions. Please do not let this review sway you away from eating at Hodads in OB. Now the look, it looks like a Hodad burger. You have 1inch thick onion, 1inch thick tomato slice and a beefy burger for $12.50. All your condiments... BBQ sauce, yellow mustard, mayo and ketchup.... BUT unfortunately your eyes will just be deceived into thinking that the Ballpark is actually going to have amazing food... nope wrong again. This was a complete let down. The burger had NO FLAVOR ... none... like an oily burger with no flavor. I even dipped in mustard and BBQ sauce... and it just wasn't even enough to give it flavor. I mean I get it... its the ball park... nobody is allergic to pepper and salt... pepper and salt does MIRACLES... unfortunately I saw no salt and pepper packets. It was very disappointing... their wedges were okay, it looked like it should have been flavorful but we ate one and tossed the others... So if you have no taste buds, love and onion/tomato burger... by all means hit up Hodads at Petco Park. If you want a good decent burger from Hodads, then hit up Hodads in Ocean Beach. The staff was friendly and efficient... you wait in line, place your order on the right side... you are given a receipt (and drinks if you ordered drinks) and told to go to your left (make sure not to walk into the pole and walk around)... It is at that time you wait in another line and give your receipt to the staff and they prepare your order... you grab your condiments and be gone. The tables are really cool... actual wood slabs with succulents in the middle.

Yelp
Best burgers in the park. Onion rings huge and delicious. They were a little undercooked (onions still crunchy inside & Im allergic to raw onions) for me but the rest of my family LOVED this batch. Super great customer service at this one on top level seating.
google avatar

Yelp
COSTCO FROZEN PATTY. Do not be fooled by this imposter. $88 dollars later for 4 hamburgers, 1 fry and 1 drink. Never again Petco. Stick with eating outside the park. Unless the old hot dog and beer combo works. All 4 burgers were not cooked through. Just skip "Hodads" unless you're going to travel to the O.G. In ocean beach. Do better or close for good.

M L.

Yelp
Waited in line for fries only. The register employee handed me my receipt and told me to wait where everyone was lingering to the side. What she did not tell me was that I needed to give my receipt to the employees handing off the food to get my order in queue. I stood there for several minutes and watched the shit show of a food handoff when a nice person came up to me and told me about the process because she just experienced same thing. I walked up to the employee at the handoff and asked him if I was supposed to give him my receipt. He snatched it out of my hands and said, "yep." I then proceeded to wait longer for my order of fries when I noticed new customers. I went back to the counter to ask if f they called my name and the response was, "probably." He asked me what I ordered and finally gave me my fries. I had to continue to stand there to wait to ask for ketchup and ranch. I never got the ketchup. Once eating the fries there were a few that were cold and not cooked through. Terrible execution, service and food.

Yelp
Hodad's brings ballpark food to a whole other level. I enjoyed a cheeseburger and my friend enjoyed a veggie burger - solid option when the whole stadium was sold out of veggie dogs. I do have to say my favorite Hodad's location is in PB due to the freshness of the food, but I would get this again at a Padres game in a heartbeat! Don't forget to grab your food before the end of the 7th inning.
google avatar

Vic E.

Yelp
I had attended a Padres game against the Diamondbacks during my recent visit here with a friend. Prior to the game, both of us were hungry and I decided to get some food before the opening pitch. I went to Hodad's on the east side of the stadium just down the hallway from Section 114 where we were seated at for the game. I've heard so many great things and read a lot of great reviews regarding their burgers which are considered by some to be the best in town. However, the issue here isn't so much the food but more of the experience in receiving it which is the reason for the one star. The lines were steady and I had no problem approaching the counter. I ordered two cheeseburgers with a side of fries and onion rings which came up to around a whopping $45 after tax. I reluctantly paid and waited off to the side. The pick-up side was crowded and a source of frustration for those standing in the hallway waiting for their orders. It took about 10-15 minutes for our order to be called, but there were no chairs or tables for anyone to sit at. Some people sat on the floor or leaned against the wall while waiting as the crowds continued to grow. I told my friend to go ahead and settle down at our seats while I bring the food. This was a mistake. Once our order was called, we were given two cardboard holders for the burgers and sides, but had nothing to secure the drinks. A tray for all the items would've been convenient. I tried to look for my friend but she disappeared into the crowd and there was no way I was going to track her down in such a massive crowd before the game starts. Leaving the drinks behind was also not a good option with the massive influx of pickup orders piling up on the counter and the people huddled in front waiting. So I took a foolhardy approach and carried everything to the seats. This was a tedious and stressful experience and our seats were just down the hallway. I had to walk along the edge of the hallway carrying the two burgers with the sides stacked one on top of the other and the drinks cradled around my arm as I was going against the flow of the crowd. I had to stop at one point to place it on a bench to regain a secure hold. One person saw my situation and offered to help carry the drinks which I was struggling not to drop, to our seats. The stranger was very kind and didn't have to do this, but I couldn't take the chance of dropping the drinks along the way. I was very grateful yet very unhappy at the same time. By the time I got to the seats with the stranger's help, the food was slightly warm and it took several minutes of walking from the counter to the seats. The burgers were good, but disappointed that it was no longer hot. The fries and onion rings were nothing great and it was also slightly warm. At almost $50, this was not worth the trouble and effort to order from this location. Hodad's would benefit greatly if tables and chairs were added off to the side to dissipate the crowds waiting at the counter and serving trays would be a tremendous improvement for larger orders instead of having to carry them individually to the seats. Finally, a system should be put in place for customers to have the option of getting their food delivered to their seats like some movie theaters do instead of having to navigate through the crowds like I did. The consolation for both of us was that the Padres won big against Arizona that day and everyone went home happy. I would not recommend ordering food from this Hodad's due to the prices and until they make improvements on the issues I experienced.

Chris H.

Yelp
Two stars only bc the staff was nice. Been to Hodads in ob... loved it. Line at petco park was always too long so I never went here during a game. As luck would have it my family was hungry for dinner and their was no line! Got three cheeseburgers and they were sooooooo bad 1. The onions we maybe a quarter inch think. Not edible in my view 2. It was a frozen hockey puck burger... dried out not juicy served room temp flavorless 3. The bun was a disgrace. Enough said 4. If not for ketchup and mustard this might not have been edible at all So sad Hodads let this happen.

Yelp
Great burgers! My husband and I shared one with fries and were tempted to go back for another. Their fries looked disappointing at first because they were thick potato wedges which I usually don't like. These fries, however, were awesome! Very quick service as well.

Yelp
Pros: 1) We love that we can eat one of our best burgers in San Diego at PETCO Park, and that they have 2 different locations within the ballpark so you're never too far to make the walk to one difficult. 2) The burgers are just as good as they are at their OB or downtown locations. Cons: 1) Price! I believe their burgers are $12 at the ballpark and $8.50 at their other non-PETCO Park locations. 2) Inability to hold pickles, or any other included item in the burger, customization just isn't possible with the number of patrons in line at the ballgame. That said, it's still a good thing... Despite the two Cons mentioned above, we'd rather have a Hodads location at PETCO with the mentioned shortcomings than no Hodads so kudos to them for having not just one, but two locations to buy one of San Diego's finest burgers while you root for our San Diego Padres. Keep up the great job Hodads!!!

Yelp
It is a good choice at Petco Park. We ate 3 cheese burger and chichek strips that are delicious. The staffs are friendly and kind. But the price is somewhat high than expected.
google avatar

Matt Q.

Yelp
The hype is all there is. When a brand like Hodad's puts their name on an outlet, you would hope their food would live up to the hype. Sadly, their $12.50 ballpark burgers are mass produced and actually fall short of an average burger at a sports event. Waiting in line to watch an old man struggle to pump orders out not caring what he was giving out was sad to watch. Actually trying to eat the tasteless beef patty on a bun was even sadder. Never again. Definitely, do not recommend. They have a Din Tai Fung in Petco Park! Should had tried that.
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
Burgers are good but fries are a hard pass. The cheeseburger was tasty. The fries are wedge fries and not at all crispy. Im not a fan of wedge fries so in the future i know not to order them again.
google avatar

Martha W.

Yelp
I am mostly going to review my burger. Getting it was fine at the park because it was Tuesday taco night so everybody was getting tacos. I only waited about five minutes. So the burger was nicely grilled with some crispy edges. The size is not huge but perfect for me. I get mine sans onion but I do like all the veggies on it. My husband complained his tomato was thicker than his meat, but for me that's ok as last Ng as the meat is good and it was! I need more veggies in my diet anyway according to my doctor. But if you're looking for a thick burger go elsewhere. The potato wedges were cooked to perfection with a nice crispy edge. For me it's all about the crisp.
google avatar

Ruth L.

Yelp
First of I only agreed to eating here because my Fiancěe wanted to eat here. 2nd and final rip off! The patties are frozen not authentic hodads burgers . Pass.
google avatar

Jean-Charles N.

Yelp
As good as Hodads Ocean Beach or Downtown without the huge wait. I like to do the cheese burger with onion rings
google avatar

Faye L.

Yelp
Long lines and confusing pick up station. Cashier was nice and friendly. I didn't think the $10.50 price for cheeseburger was terrible. But I did find the $9 price for bottle of Dasani water to be egregious. They only have single burgers at this location (no double patties). I requested extra onions and mayo. Not sure if there was extra mayo. The onions tasted fresh and delicious. The patty was over charred so had a burnt taste to it. The bun was grilled nicely though. This didn't ruin my fun time that evening watching the Dodgers v Padres game. A better pick of food choices just would have made that baseball evening perfect.
google avatar

Maestro L.

Yelp
Order the cheeseburger along with the mini hamburger and Minnie cheeseburger, the mini burgers are actually not too many. The classic cheeseburger tasted amazing the ingredients were plentiful meaning the thick cut onion tomato and sauce. Probably one of the best burger places I have had in California.
google avatar

Marcus F.

Yelp
Bomb-ass burgers at a baseball park. It's a decent copy of their original location, minus the milkshakes of course. Anytime you put a storefront in an airport or stadium it's not going to be as good, and it will be twice as expensive. Overall it was great burger at a ballpark venue. Worth the price. Tips: - These messy burgers aren't the easiest things to eat while sitting in your seats. There are wet components and you'll need two hands to eat these tall burgers. There's not a lot of elbow room when eating in the tight ballpark seating. - I'd order it without onions. They give you about an inch of white onion slices.. - Onion rings are tasty but not worth the extra charge to upgrade.

Yelp
Love hodads! The location pet o park is great because we're there more than PB. But at monster jam they were out of bacon? Um bacon patty is what hodads is all about. Has it been to long since I've been and it's not a thing anymore? Either way go somewhere else if they can run out of bacon

Kevin M.

Yelp
Waited in line for 20 minutes. Asked for a cheeseburger with no onions. Lady said we don't do modifications. I told her I am allergic to onions I can't just remove them. She's Said sorry that how it is. Really so much for serving the customer. I will never ever eat Hodad's again. A simple ask no onions. Buzz off!!!!

Yelp
I have been going to Hodad's in Ocean Beach for many many years. It has always been my favorite! I was so excited to get my favorite burger and onion rings at Petco Park last night at the Garth Brooks concert. Unfortunately the burgers came dry with the condiments on the side, only they had run out of mayonnaise and it was only 5 PM. We waited one hour for two cheeseburgers. They offered no ranch dressing for the fries or onion rings. The onion rings were cold, thin and chewy. It was nothing like what Hodad's is supposed to be like. Soooo disappointing. Will never get food from the Petco Park location again.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Meh. Basic, dry, flavorless and mass produced. Bummed out, actually. Asked for no onion and was told they could make any amendments to the menu but that I should try another location to see if they would do so. If you are given the gift of a spot or two at a MLB ballpark...do better than this. Whataburger in Texas would taste better than this and that's not a compliment. Fries were cold too.

Yelp
I've been to the original Hodad's in OB once 6 years ago and I forgot how their burgers tasted. I remember going with a group of friends in college back then. I went to a Padres game this past week with coworkers and I thought I'd give Hodads another try. The burgers are pricey but considering you're inside a ballpark it's not completely terrible. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger $10.50. The burger was really thick but that's not necessarily a good thing. It was too big to bite so pretty much the top portion of the burger has to be eaten first then you bite the bottom half.... It was annoying since you can't enjoy all the ingredients at once. The burger itself tastes just alright. My coworkers who tried it didn't like their burger either and one of the managers at our company said he also tried Hodad's for the first time that night but that it would be his last. Hmmm I'm not sure why but I thought it would be more flavorful. I personally like In-N-Out or Shake Shack Burgers better as far as taste goes. If you're at the ballpark, I would suggest sticking to a soft pretzel and cheese or maybe try out Phil's BBQ.

Yelp
I really wanted to review my burger experience from Hodad's at Petco Park. Can't. Here's why: Bro-in-law and I went to the Hodad's stand on field level near section 103 during the 4th - 5th inning of the Wednesday afternoon game vs. the Brewers. We ordered two cheeseburgers and two large Pacifico beers. The girl who took our order looked up and said, "We're out of meat." I looked at the very long line that had formed behind us and said, "You might want to put up a sign." You're effing Hodad's! You do one thing. Burgers! How can you be out of meat?

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Loved the burger and the fried combo. However, I am not a big eater so the smallest burger was even a little bit too big for me. The fried portions were not oily so very yummy. Price was very fair for the quality. It was fresh as well. Going back soon.

Yelp
Been a fan of Hodad's since the old day's of just OB... always gotten the mini cheeseburger basket...and it's still more than enough... the ballpark has a streamlined menu so no option for a "mini" ...so i got the cheeseburger basket..OMG i could not finish it! however every bite i had was amazing as it always has been. i am NOT a fan of wedge fries...but Hodad's puts down some delish wedge fries...only one's i truly love. I LOVE fries! come to think of it...why don't i have a french fry "list" ..hmm gotta make that one. so you stand in line.. you order you get a buzzer.. the buzzer buzzes and you grab your food. service was perfect food was perfect (just too much!) i love that Petco supports our local businesses right here in the park

Yelp
Burnt food, argumentative workers... what else could you want after spending $30 on nosebleeds and $30 on parking! The veggie burger was burnt out the outside, still very much cold/semi-frozen on the inside. Literally sent the food back 3 times, only to give up after the 4th time. All said and done, we were gone from our seats from the bottom of the 4th until the bottom of the 6th. My favorite part of the experience was when we returned our food for the first time, the employee said it wasn't from their menu because they don't serve vegan burgers. There was literally cheese sticking out of the burger lol. They clearly aren't hiring the brightest individuals. AVOID HODAD'S AT ALL COSTS.

Yelp
While I didn't love the burgers, I also didn't hate them. I will say I don't understand the hype. Though, I travel a lot for work, so I am probably a bit of a snob when it comes to food, as I go out of my way to try 2-3 'popular' Yelp restaurants in every new city I go to. I ordered a cheeseburger - it hit the spot, as I was craving a cheeseburger, but nothing I'd order again. It's possible it could be the location? So, I'd be willing to give it another go, but I'm not jumping the next time I'm in San Diego.

Yelp
I was excited to finally try Hodads (even if it was at Petco Park) after watching the episode of DDD. I ordered the chicken tenders and fries and they were delicious! I was impressed with the portion of the plate too! I was definitely satisfied. Looking forward to eating here again and trying other locations!

Yelp
I haven't been to a Hodad's in a long time, just because it's been out of the way for me. However, when I was at Petco Park for a game, I naturally came here because it's been so long. The burger is as good as I remembered it to be, even with onions in them. The onion rings were crispy and perfectly fried, not too greasy. It lost a star in that they upped the price and the logistics to get your order doesn't really make sense and was a long wait. We missed the first 15 minutes of the game when we were in line 55 minutes before the game. This did remind me to go to Hodad's for a burger more often and how much I like their burgers (and milk shakes, which were not offered at the park).

Yelp
I am a big fan of Hodad's, having been to the one on Newport Avenue a few times. And while the food here at the Hodad's in Petco is comparable, there are a few distinct differences which sour my experience a bit in comparison. First, the cost of everything is a good 50% more here than at other Hodad's elsewhere. And while I know that it's expected for food at Petco to carry a higher sticker price, one of the appeals of Hodad's in the first place is getting a healthy amount of unhealthy food for a very modest price. And while you still seem to get a huge cheeseburger with a handful of rings or fries, the $15 price tag leaves an ashy taste on the palette. Second, it may have been because of the night we went, but the service here is severely lacking. With four (or possibly more) cash registers at the counter and two sides from which to pick up, there's plenty of space for patrons to quickly order what they want and step aside to get their greasy fare in good time. However, when only two people are manning those registers, and when they seem to be taking a good 8+ minutes to take the order of a single group, then you have the conditions that create lines that stretch far back into the stadium. Thankfully, we showed up a good two hours before Monster Jam started, allowing for the 45+ minutes we spent in line to not keep us from the opening of the show. Anyway, they may be minor points for which to chastise a restaurant, but they do detract from my ultimate experience here. The food may be just as good, but, because of this, I would still rather enjoy a burger down by the beach than have one with me while watching a game.

Yelp
Yummm!! Dirty food for a good time at the ballpark. You get the cheeseburger with bacon and some fries... Add some jalapeños and ketchup on your fries... Delicious dirty dirty food. Get a beer and sit in your seat and start your munching and drinking! Be sure to gain 10lbs eating this meal.

Yelp
I had to give Hodads 5 stars! Everything was perfect. I was here for the Journey/Def Leopard concert and we came hungry. I got a burger with onion rings for around $11-12 I think. The food was made to order and the service was excellent. My friend had the cheese burger with fries, so we shared. The burgers were perfect, huge, lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The burgers took a few minutes to make, but it was worth the wait.

Yelp
" Crispy Thick Potato Fries, Yum " We went to Petco Park today and stopped by Hodads for a little snack. We ordered a large Potatoe Fries which came out very crispy as I asked for them. The Potato Fries are loaded with heavy seasoning on the outside of the potatoes, which makes for great flavors. The large Fries portion was big enough for both my wife and myself to share. They were very good !
