Dogtown’s neighborhood smokehouse with dry‑rub wings, brisket by the pound, and a lively patio. Covered by Feast Magazine and local guides; house sauces are made in‑house and portions are generous.

First time here Had their version of the French Dip, with a real tasty au jui sauce. Also had the side dish of Mustard Potato salad. They let me have a sample of their Pit Beans. ( their version of baked beans). The whole meal was really good and the service was fine. Some of the dining table(s) are very small and the overall menu list doesn't have a great variety and although the meals might seem pricey The atmosphere, the food quality, and the service seem to make my first experience worthwhile. Almost forgot to mention the outdoor patio area. Probably capable of seating over 60+ customers comfortably.

The waitress was very nice. We ordered food to go. The brisket was flavorless without sauce. I don’t normally eat brisket with sauce. The baked beans were very good. Spicy and full of different types of meat. The Mac and cheese wasn’t my favorite.

Google
Phenomenal BBQ! 😋 Brisket was perfect, the St. Louis ribs were falling off the bone, mac and cheese side was great, as was the mustard potato salad. Our server, Madison, was very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!!

Google
We had the half rack of ribs and the pit beans....the beans weren't bad, a lil on the sweet side. The ribs were fairly decent with the sauce. I ordered a margarita with sugar and received one with salt. I'm pretty sure they just pour it in another glass with sugar on the rim because it still had the salty taste....overall not a bad experience.

Google
We enjoyed the food here and the service was quick. The indoor area was quite loud but the outdoor seating was perfect with good weather. When we were heading out they were also setting up live music

Google
The good reviees got me in here, everything looked great at first, however the wings were so dry and seemed like they were reheated, rub had no flavor.. brisket was ok but same thing rub was missing flavor. Seems like locals only go there and the staff focuses mainly on the bar buisness. Thought the portions woukd be at least bigger.. mustard potato salad... big no. Food looked good just missing the taste.

Google
Georgia the bartender/server was fantastics. The prices are typical. The brisket ribs &ac & cheese were very good. The lighting inside was a lil dark but ok. The outside sesting are was way bigher than inside. Parking was a lil funky. Would def go again.

Google
Incredible experience. First time here, so I ordered the French dip and Mac/cheese. The Mac and cheese was one of the best I have had in St Louis, and the French dip was excellent, the au jus was real, not just made from beef bouillon. I ate sitting under a photo of the Checkerdome, one of the places I missed when I moved back.

Yelp
We decided to try Hogtown Smokehouse. For our appetizer we got the frito pie. That was amazing. I got a small side salad. My husband tri3d the hot hog town with a side of mac n cheese. I decided on the turkey sandwich with vinegar slaw. The service was perfect. The restaurant is like a bar restaurant combined with patio seating. The food was delicious. Everything was full of flavor

Yelp
3.5 rounded up i only got one thing from hogtown so i can't really comment too much beyond the ribs. the location of this place is kind of quaint, very different from a lot of the other bbq places i do think that this place is better than sugarfyre, so there is that. they also are pretty friendly and have good service here in the future i'd be interested in trying more of their items, since i only got the one. i have to imagine that they're mostly known for ribs, but maybe there are some other good things

Yelp
Maybe we caught the kitchen on a bad day but the food was barely over . In order of enjoyment by our family of 6: #1 pretzel #2 Grilled cheese (kids) #3 Mac-n-cheese (kids) #4 dinner salad w BBQ vinaigrette #5 spare ribs (I would say the rub is Memphis style with a Greek twist. Not my fave but no points off for that). Fresh and well-cooked. #6 apple sauce (chunky style) was pretty good #6 Sausage, not but but I wouldn't order again #7 Dry rub wings (the meat was very dry but had potential Sorry, but the creamy Cole slaw was too heavy with thick dressing, the potato salad was way too much mustard, the garlic bread was day old bread and not worth a second bite. The Brisket was dead-on-arrival. It always amazes me when restaurants will serve food that tastes more than 2 days old. Huge disappointment. Seemed to me that the coals or charcoal wasn't all the way ready when the meat went into the smoker because there was "that petroleum taste" The waitress was cheerful, helpful and attentive. Overall had much higher hopes for a 4.6 star Yelp rating.

Yelp
Amazing experience! I had the smoked pork steak and vinegar slaw, my wife had a Southerner sandwich with Mac and cheese, all were amazing! pork steak that you can cut with a plastic fork and a tangy white sauce chicken sandwich. Some of the very best food I've had in St. Louis! Absolutely outstanding Mac and Cheese with a crispy cheese cracker topping.

Yelp
Excellent food with great service as always! Absolutely one of our favorite local BBQ spots.

Yelp
First time visit to this one. We were greeted quickly by the super nice waitress / bartender there. She gave us some options on where to sit and asked if we had been in before. She explained the menu to us and gave us a couple recommendations, one that we took. We got there and the atmosphere was fun. Games on the TVs, but what was really funny for us, was the very nice group of regulars that were there at the bar and the table next to us.. They were waiting for Wheel of Fortune to come on, honestly just on first impressions alone, I feel they would have let us join in on the fun if we asked :) Food was amazing. My wife got a French Dip and I got the Southtown. Both came out as fast as you would expect a sit down place to come out. No complaints at all. The meats were amazing! The chicken with the white bbq sauce was awesome, and the roast beef was perfect. Overall, super fun environment, nice people, and amazing food. Inside and outside seating, cool place. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Ordered the brisket plate with vinegar slaw. Brisket was dry probably due to the fact the meat wasn't well marbled. Disappointing for sure. I also ordered the smoked wings which had good smoked flavor but was also dry.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Small place not a lot of seating (about 24 seats total and then about 7 at the bar) but the bartender did some rearranging and got us a table for 2. I had the brisket tray which comes with 2 sauces and 1 side and a piece of bread. I got the pit beans and the original bbq sauce and the garlic bbq both were tasty but really liked the garlic one...give it a try! My friend got the pork tray with Mac and cheese. Because we share I tried her Mac and cheese (which I am super finicky about Mac/cheese). OMGoodness it was amazing. It had great flavor, creamy, with bread crumbs(?) on top!!! Could definitely go back just for that! I thought the price was reasonable for the amount of food. Just a fun neighborhood bbq place with a couple TVs, friendly staff and a quaint feel!

Yelp
This was my second visit but it has been a few years. I love their patio. Fantastic barbecue. I ordered a brisket sandwich which came on top of the softest hoagie roll. This place is a vibe. We were greeted and treated with kindness.

Yelp
Stunning spring day for their patio seating. Fast service ready to cater to your needs. Food menu to make mouths water. What I loved the most? Seeing the connection between the guests. Everyone seems to know each other. That's character no money can buy. Absolutely will be coming back.

Yelp
Just go. Stop searching and put the address in your gps. Not a bad item on the table and the owner/servers were so nice and welcoming. The best restaurants are set apart not only by great food but an all around great experience and Hogtown exceeded expectation in every way!

Yelp
it all fits. bbq is amazing. service is impeccable. even the bar back is happy all the time.. patio shaded and a great place to chill. always a great choice.

Robin K.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in for lunch. They have just a few tables inside plus seating at the bar. There is outdoor seating but we choose indoors so not sure how big the outdoor area is. Service was very good. We ordered the Southtown and the Cuban sandwiches to split as we couldn't decide. Sandwiches come with 1 side, which are house made. I ordered the applesauce and my husband ordered the potato salad. The sandwiches were great. Sometimes I hesitate to order pulled chicken as it can be dry. Not here. The chicken was perfect and was not overly sauced. The applesauce was amazing...smooth with the perfect amount of chunks. The Cuban was one of the best I've had outside of a Cuban restaurant. My husband said the potato salad was great too. Everyone was very friendly and service was very good.

Lyndsey R.

Yelp
Such a great place for BBQ! Stopped in and sat on their back patio to enjoy some lunch. Staff was all very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Hogtown is for sure in my Top 3 BBQ places in the country! The food here is absolutely incredible! It's a very unassuming looking place, but the food speaks for itself. Our bartender, Madi, was excellent! They were nice enough to put on the game we wanted to watch as well. I forgot my credit card at the bar when we left, but Madi ran outside and made sure that I got it back. We couldn't have asked for a better experience at Hogtown. The food and the service were exceptional! We will for sure be back if we come to STL again.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Good pulled pork, the sweet sauce is good, but the tangy sauce is amazing. The outdoor seating area is perfect with beautiful trees creating shade and adorable dog portraits lining the privacy fence. The service was really quick too.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall BBQ with mouthwatering flavor and super friendly service! App selection was surprising and solid drink options. Will definitely stop by again.

Yelp
I got the Argentine sandwich. The added honey goat cheese spread made this sandwich! It was so delicious. Meat smoked to perfection.

Yelp
First time venturing into our neighborhood for local eats. What a pleasant surprise! We have been searching for great ribs... who knew it was only a few blocks from our home. As my partner says "these are the best f***ing ribs I've had in St. Louis. We also got the Fritos Pie, which I will be getting again. I tried getting a picture but I was too late and the food was too good. This place is awesome with a handicap accessible entry on the side of the building and bathroom. They now have live music on Sundays 2pm til 4pm with Emily Wallace who is just amazing. In the back is a great outdoor space, fur friendly and you get to see the pit master at work. Madi behind the bar is a ROCKSTAR. The smell of BBQ brings you in but the friendliness and attentiveness is what makes you want to stay. The is an everybody come in eat and enjoy life kinda place. Cant wait for more BBQ.

Yelp
PROS: ribs, Mac, pulled pork, hummus, cozy neighborhood vibes, service CONS: couldn't try more from the menu this trip

Yelp
On Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, we hosted an employee reunion party at Saratoga Lanes. We had Hogtown Smokehouse cater it. They were great. Everyone loved the barbeque pork, brisket, and macaroni & cheese. It was very good. Rico, owner, was very responsive and helpful. They delivered the food on time and made sure that everything was good before leaving. I highly recommend Hogtown Barbeque. We will definitely be back. One more - one last - - - the food was great as was the service.

Yelp
In St Louis for a few days. I heard of Hogtown so I decided to pop in and try the wings. Customer service was great and I quickly received my order. The wings had a great cook in them and covered in dry rub. My only problem is there was a fumey after taste that made it extremely hard to enjoy the wings. It honestly tasted like lighter fluid. I would definitely need to come back and try other menu options. Really hope this was a one off. The spicy sauce one the sauce was great but didn't mask the overly Smokey taste.

Will S.

Yelp
Was here visiting and needed some good bbq. The rack of ribs did not disappoint. All the food was good and the bartender was friendly.

Shannon S.

Yelp
This is a tiny little find in Dogtown and so worth the stop! I got the Southtown sandwich and my husband got the Cubano, we both got the mac n cheese for our sides. All of was so good! We will definitely be back!

alex

Yelp
2.5 stars for me. Food was Mid. I got the brisket tray. Brisket was dry. Maybe I got a bad one. Still tasted decent though. Mac and cheese is spiral noodles with some sort of creamy cheese sauce on top and some crushed cheez its. Also mid. The bread was stale too. Kind of sad about that. Just hard and crunchy all the way through. 0 bread like feel. Like a giant crouton. The bbq sauce was also just mid. The spicy one was good and the regular "tangy" sauce was super grainy and weird. I ordered my food to go so no comment on service and ambience. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. It was quick and not over priced. Decent amount of food. Filled me up.

Yelp
Checked this place out for the first time. Our server was Amazing. She was working the bar, yet was so attentive! She checked on us multiple times, answered questions, and gave great recommendations. We split a turkey and brisket tray, both were great!!! I will have to come back to try the ribs. They smoke meats in house. I really enjoyed the original tangy sauce. It was a great balance of tangy and subtle sweetness. I do wish they had a Carolina mustard sauce! But many other sauce options to choose from. GreaT beer selection, multiple options from Heavy Riff. The inside is pretty small, but we were able to get a table right away on a Thursday night. Overall great experience from a local spot, will be back.

Yelp
Friendly service, nice beer selection. Wide range of ribs, brisket etc I had the brisket sandwich - moist, flavorful, great bread. The potato salad was delightfully mustardy. Definitely would come back !

Yelp
This was my last eating stop before leaving St. Louis and it was the best food I've had during my stay here. The waitress was nice and friendly. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with the pit beans. Both items tasted fresh. I wasn't sure about the pretzel bread because I've had it somewhere else and it was hard and didn't taste good. The pretzel bread here was soft and good. The pit beans were delicious. They had a kick to it, but not too hot. The beans had a great flavor. Would definitely order them again.

Yelp
Lovely patio. Great service. Nice selection of sandwiches, tried the French Dip, loved it!

Yelp
Amazing food, great crowd, oh my gosh the ribs. There's an outside seating area. Locally owned with an amazing staff.

Yelp
First time here. Never heard of it until yesterday, but had to drop a note to say thank you the the Owner and staff of Hogtown BBQ. First of all, the waitress and bartender,Tracea was incredibly busy, yet kind, patient, knowledgeable and seemed very happy to be there. We inadvertently took up an 8 top table for 3 hours. Rico was super welcoming,! He made sure we were taken care of the whole time. He was incredibly generous as well. The food was absolutely delicious, from the pork to the brisket thru to the stuffed Mac n cheese. The sides were a great addition to our meals. They were definitely a good size side and not just an afterthought like some places. Anyway, thank you again for such a positive experience and a fantastic dinner. You all made our day. Sorry again that we held up the table for so long. We hope Tracea has a safe and wonderful trip! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Ok after hearing about Hogtown Smokehouse I make plans to go and take a friend. I go on a Sunday evening. Place is got a nice crowd of drinkers having a great time on the rear patio area. Waitress takes order pretty fast and we order Brisket Dinner. Food taste good and comes out in good time. My complaint is the sandwich was small and not much meat on it. We eat but I'm yet hungry so I order the wings. WINGS are excellent. My friend asked for extra sauce for her sandwich. We spend $60 plus bucks and she charges my friend .60 cents for extra sauce??? Uh....really? It would have been nice if she had told us there was a charge for extra sauce. I won't be back to dine in...but I will order wings again TO GO.

Yelp
Our first time visiting and won't be our last! I was looking for BBQ and hit jackpot with Hogtown. Smokehouse. From the moment we walked in, I loved it. Our greeting was warm and friendly. It could be the Cheers of Dogtown. Service was fast and attentive. The restaurant offered indoor or patio seating. We chose indoor because of weather. The menu offered unusual sandwich options, which I love! I ordered the Loaded Pulled Pork Sandwich. The pork is tossed in the sauce you pick, I picked sweet, then pork is placed on a large toasted hoagie roll, with their wonderful creamy coleslaw added on top. It was fantastic. I thought it would be too much bread but it melted in your mouth with the perfect amount of toasted crunch. My husband had the ribs. The meat fell off the bone with ease. He loved them! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Stuffed Mac and cheese with brisket and the cornbread muffin with jalapeño butter and the frito pie. It was sooooooo good. This place is right in our neighbor too. Love it

Morgan D.

Yelp
Great food and great service! I wish we would've gotten pictures but we scarfed it down pretty quickly. The atmosphere was relaxing and the older building it was in was very cute and clean. The brisket was the best we had ever had as well as the ribs. The Mac n cheese was different but very good. The pit beans were phenomenal. The French dip was good, but has a very strong beer flavor that I wasn't a fan of so just be aware of that. The mixed drink prices were also affordable. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Hi, well here is a picture of the wing we got from hog town. I see feathers on there. Also we showed this to our server at the time. You tell me.

Yelp
Hogtown is a great addition to Dogtown. When I heard that Hogtown Smokehouse was opening in Dogtown, I thought to myself, does St. Louis really need another BBQ joint. After enjoying their pork steak which is only available for dinner this evening, I am so happy that they have opened. Their pork steak was fork tender. I was able to pull bite size pieces from the steak, without even using my knife. I did however, use the plastic knife to make it easier. I just wanted you to understand how tender and mouthwatering this pork steak was. It was a thin cut steak and had just enough sauce that I did not need to add any other sauces. The pork steak came with one side, but I paid extra to have two. I choose, pit beans and one the recommendation of the bartender, my second side was Mac and Cheese. I enjoyed both of them. The Pit Beans, had bite size pieces of sausage, that gave them a spicy kick. Their Mac and Cheese was made with Rotini, which is my favorite pasta noodle. The sauce coating the noodles was thick and creamy. For my own personal taste, I would have liked some red pepper flakes added to it, or seasoned well with white pepper for that extra kick. Hogtown is a order at the bar, take a table marker and find a seat type restaurant. Which is very similar to some of our other popular BBQ joints in STL. The bartender was friendly and I appreciated her side recommendation. I also chatted with the food runner and Rico an owner. They all were equally friendly and appreciative of my business. There's a full bar with a wide selection of national beers and local craft beers. They even have a decent selection of wine to accompany your BBQ. Another big perk is their patio in back is dog friendly. I'll be back: Got Brisket, Pulled Pork and Turkey still to try. When: September 5, 2019 Why: Dinner - Hot & New on Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
An average place, with overpriced sandwiches. Not worth $14 for small sandwich and 1 little side. Too bad there was slaw on top of it. $2.75 for a coke. Choice of 3 BBQ sauces. They add the sauce. None extra on table. The chili was average or less. Kidney beans and black beans plus corn. No corn in my chili, thank you. The toasted bun was good. Too much bun n not enough BBQ. Been there. Tried it.

Yelp
I actually added this on my Collectons after reading Stephen B.'s review of the place. Friday a friend and I were hoping to go to the Forest Park Balloon Glow, but weather detoured us and so I told here to meet here and we would try the food. This location is not around many other restaurants that I could tell, it's more of a stand alone in a residential type area. There was plenty of parking which was good. I was greeted when I walked in (friend arrived before me). Friend showed me the menu and let me know we ordered at the register and then could find any seating we liked. We ordered different items so we could split them a bit and share. She ordered the brisket sandwich with mac n cheese. I ordered the pork steak with pit beans. The food was very delicious and nice portions! There were a variety of bbq sauces to try at the table - we both preferred the Spicy which had a nice kick but wasn't too hot. Friends mac n cheese was very creamy and had rotini noodles which really held the sauce! My pit beans had sausage AND bacon in them which I love! My pork steak was so tender I was able to just take a bite off with my fork. Multiple staff members came by to check on us and offer beverage refills. We stayed quite awhile due to weather and they still checked on us - which is great! A lot of time businesses don't keep checking when you stay too long.... Overall they have great hospitality and even better food! Definitely check them out!

Yelp
A nice ean BBQ joint right across from some new co dos or apartments on Clayton in Dogtown. I love the dogtown area. But anyway, too the food. You normally order at the counter. It was early when we went so she just waited on us at the table. Very friendly people. I got the sausage plate which was a lot of food. I wasn't huge fan of the sausage, but it was good. The spices just felt off to me, but that's just my personal opinion. The mac and cheese I really liked....it was creamy and reminiscent of velveeta, also a favorite of mine. I know, classy right? Who cares...its awesome. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich. I had some of it and I thought it was really good. I didn't even think it needed sauce. I had been burned out on pulled pork but I'd go back and order this. The potato salad she had was also good. Definitely worth going back.

Yelp
Food is great, the sandwiches are so good and the people there are nice. We usually eat outdoors because we have a dog. Every time we have a craving for bbq is our first option.

Nick C.

Yelp
Best ribs! Quaint place with a decent patio and friendly staff. Ribs were awesome, some of the best I have ever had. Local beer paired well. Here is a tip: go for the mac and cheese- it is not your typical dry bbq restaurant kind. Rich cheese sauce with a crushed cheese-it top for a bit of crunch, sounds odd but trust me it was awesome. I only wish they had dessert but there is more than enough places within walking distance to take care of the sweet tooth.
google avatar

Santa C.

Yelp
Pork ribs are really good, brisket is a bit dry, chicken was really dry. But they have very tasty sauce to dip in. Ppl working there are friendly too.

Yelp
Went to Hogtown Smokehouse for lunch after circling the restaurant for many months not sure when I'd be able to imbibe in its cuisine. Finally at last I was able to give it the time that I deserved and boy was I ecstatic with the results. I ordered the smoked Dry Rub wings and the Turkey Club and had all I could handle. Im not myself a Guy Fiere fan but to say this meal was "Out Of Bounds" would be the understatement of my year. If I were to describe the wings I would say they were indescribable. Yup that good. The turkey on the club was out of this world and the bacon left nothing to be desired. Ohhh and don't let me forget the beans the smoked beans were more like a BBQ Chili. No seriously I'd buy that by the pint. I will be back. I will order more than I can eat. I will spread the good word that is Hogtown Smokehouse.

Yelp
I'm so stoked I live in such an awesome neighborhood, that includes fantastic little restaurants like hogtown! I'm only sorry I didn't go sooner. A cute shady patio, with plenty of fans to keep you cool on a warmer day. Friendly staff, and amazing food. The Buffalo BBQ wings and the Mac n Cheese are worth going back for by themselves. I may actually go back and just pig out on sides. Welcome to the neighborhood Hogtown!
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Base on these pictures they need a new person for their chicken because they have feathers in them

emily f.

Yelp
Our favorite bbq in St. Louis! Especially after being at the zoo all day. The patio has lots of big tables & the staff is all so friendly. Good music choice - Cheers!

Yelp
My new favorite: Stuffed Mac 'n Cheese! Love this combo. So lucky to have all of this delicious food in Dogtown!

Yelp
Fabulous ribs. Chef lives over the property so he can keep an eye on the smoking. Bean side dish was outstanding. Sat in back patio because it was a hot summer night. Very comfortable and perfect seating - picnic tables. Old fashioned five light lamppost lit up the patio adding to ambience. And Collin served us with warm mid-Western hospitality. Live in No. California or we would be back next weekend!
