Holey Bagel

Solid! I got an egg, cheddar, and sausage sandwich on a sesame bagel for $10.95 and took it across the street to eat in the cute Noe Valley plaza. The workers were friendly and the service was very fast. Great spot for a hearty midday snack.

Best bagels I've had in the bay area since I moved here in '04 from PA. My order: a whole wheat everything, not toasted, with veggie cream cheese.

Bagel with lox was very good. High quality bagel and tomato. Usually not a fan of tomatoes, but I liked the ones they used. Also had a pretty good selection of soft drinks, which was nice. You can buy just lox or cream cheese from here, but it seemed pretty expensive. Very much a hole in the wall, but the decor was cute.

Given that this is specifically a bagel store, I would have expected the cream cheese to be made from fresh locally sourced dairy farms, but it is not. In comparison to Noe Bagels down the street, the cream cheese is a bit more flat, less veggies, and bagel is more dense, more chewy. I was not Wowed, which you would expect from a bagel only shop.

Quick service. I visited on an early Saturday afternoon, so most of the bagels were gone. The bagel had good texture but hardly any flavor. Bagel with cream cheese, tomato and cucumber $7.95.

This has to be the worst bagel I’ve ever had. It’s like a hockey puck. I bought a dozen and threw them all away. I hope the other flavors would be better but no such luck.

it’s a small no-frills place with great bagels. i’ve been going here since i was a baby so it has a special place in my heart. the place is located conveniently next to a lovely little cafe as well as a quaint neighborhood square with plenty of outdoor seating.

This is better than Noe Bagel… don’t get them confused this is the best bagel on the block. The team is super fast and they make good bagels

TLDR: A half step above Noah's/Posh/Boichik, yet still pales in comparison to the Laundromat. Will not go out of my way, but if absolutely craving a bagel and in Noe, this would be my stop. Longer: I stumbled into Holey Bagel on a sunny Saturday shortly after choking down half a bagel from Boichik (my second time trying Boichik, even more disappointing than my first experience. Even though it was toward the end of their day, there was still a fair variety of flavors. There were a few people behind the counter talking amongst themselves. Thinking back, I'm not sure anyone acknowledged my presence beyond an eventual nod and something to the effect of "what would you like?" A little cold, but they were ready to go home and I can't blame them. Interior is not inviting, but iirc, there were a few seats inside, plus a parklet right out their door. I took two everything, one salt, and one...I forget, plus a small garlic & herb cream cheese. $14 total felt like a lot for that... but I really wanted to scratch my bagel itch. I ate half of an everything bagel and the best part was the flavorful cream cheese. The bagel was okay enough, they're likely best very very first thing in the morning. My boyfriend agreed that it was slightly better than Boichik in the flavor and better texture. That being said, we didn't finish the bagels/I forgot about the two we left in the fridge. Oops. Next time I want a bagel, I'm making the trek to laundromat.

We were in the neighborhood because of a vet appointment recently and did a quick taste test between Holey Bagel and Noe Bagel. I'm sure there are fans for both, but we are in the opinion that Holey Bagel is slightly more delicious on this visit. Really enjoyed my sesame bagel with cream cheese and tomato. Friendly service also helps.

Bought a half dozen bagels from here a few afternoons ago. They were very stale. We saw the "day old bagels" bin for $1 each and that gave us confidence that the non-day old bagels were fresh but alas, not so. I agree with the other reviewer that I'm more convinced than ever that the shlep to Laundromat is worth it. I'm also excited to try bageletto - haven't been yet.

My go to bagel spot for the last 2 years. We got every Saturday morning and get their everything bagel with bacon and egg. Always delicious. Their everything bagel has a ton of everything topping and it's toasted perfectly. And their service is so fast.

This little shop is my go-to spot for when I'm craving that new york style bagel with da schmear. Or even a classic lox. The ladies are wonderful and extremely nice. They do accept electronic payment cause I've gone after a run with nothing but my phone on me. I believe there is a small charge if your total is under $5, so may be best to have cash for a smaller order.

The trick for this place is to go early when they have everything in stock and on the shelf before they get sold out. They have every imaginable bagel, super just baked fresh and a ton of toppings and spreads. Great prices with a couple of tables. Difficult parking but friendly service! Love and maybe for NY folks, this might not hit the spot, but for Bay Area it's damn good! Btw., they've been here here for decades and have a loyal clientele so clearly doing something right!

Solid bagel option in the Noe Valley neighborhood. The bagels always seem fresh and have a nice chew. Service is assertive and friendly. One of my go to stops when I need a quick breakfast.

For $5, the bagel was a little small (about the size of my palm) and I could barely taste the jalapeno, it was more of a plain bagel. I got it toasted with cream cheese -- there was quite a good amount of cream cheese spread which I appreciated. A good crunch and slight chew; affordable option relative to the Noe Valley area.

We went in this morning to grab a dozen bagels before heading to a company offsite. They asked if we wanted them sliced - we said yes of course! Then they told us they charge $2.50 per bagel to slice them. That's right, this is a bagel shop that charges you $2.50 a bagel to slice your bagel. WTH

Came here a few weeks ago after getting a tiny less than mid lox bagel somewhere else. It was more than satisfying. Bummed that I didn't think to just go here first for breakfast! It's a very small lobby with maybe a table or two but the service was great. I will definitely come back.

While visiting the Saturday Farmers Market across the street, I stopped in for a bagel! There were so many great choices! I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese. It was delicious. So fresh with a nice amount of cream cheese. I will be going back to try another of their great selections

Love this place. Kind service and best bagel and lox i've found in SF so far! I love the clean but simple vibe in there! Definitely gonna try to come here more regularly to get bagels to store in my freezer.

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place yet! This is my forever favorite - quick and yummy weekend go-to Bagel spot in Noe valley. This is a hole in the wall - cutesy- family run bagel store that has my heart! You cannot go wrong with this place. Food : They have so many varieties of Bagel to choose from - Blueberries, Oats, Everything bagel, onion, sesame, poppy and my all time favorite- Garlic Bagel. The bagels are fresh and soft and they toast it for you which provides that extra zing! You can choose to layer your bagels with tomatoes, lettuce, eggs, sausages, ham, lox, etc. and the end product is always terrific. They also sell homemade spreads that is displayed in their refrigerator. These are way way better than store bought spreads so go ahead and pick one up here even if its just Jalapeño cream cheese. You will absolutely love it! They pretty much sell out their popular bagels by early afternoon. Ambience : This place does not have a dine-in or dine-out. Its a To-go place and so there isn't anything contributing to a great ambience. The place is clean and smells of - Fresh Bagels, of course!! Staff : The service here is very quick. There are two people making the bagels while one person is at the counter. On weekends you see a line outside the store but it moves pretty quickly. The staff is friendly and attentive. Value for money : A plain cream cheese bagel can cost you anywhere between $3-$5 which I do not think is too expensive with the store being in Noe. Its my favorite Bagel place in SF so far!

I might be going to hell for writing this very honest review but here goes... I was starving and got an everything bagel (toasted) with regular cream cheese. It was the absolute worst thing I've ever eaten. The bagel was dense, dry and disgusting. It was rock hard even after being toasted and smeared with cream cheese. For $5 I expect something a bit more edible but as always my expectations of bagels outside of NYC are at an all time low. The staff were really nice and I feel like they're a small business that could use better reviews but I don't wanna lie on Yelp for likes. I just want to tell the truth and sleep at night.

Delicious bagel sandwiches! It was definitely pricey, but considering how much bacon was on my breakfast sandwich and turkey on my partner's, I can see why. Both sandwiches were delicious and there were lots of options to choose from! Would definitely recommend.

My favorite place for bagels and shmears. We wanted to thank the staff at skilled nursing facility that took care of me. Holly bagels cut the bagels in half, helped me figure how much I needed to order and had it ready for pickup. The staff loved the food. Thank you, Holey Bagel.

For many years, this was a reliable place to get a nice bagel - crunchy/crusty on the outside, nice and soft and chewy on the inside. They've apparently stopped baking the bagels long enough to get the outsides done properly, so now the "bagel" is just a soft, bready mass. I bought one this morning, and I could barely slice the thing in half. It feels like they've cut a lot of corners over the years, but they're still charging $1.80. They've sunk to the level of Posh or Noah's - no need to stop here anymore.

i loved my bagel and service here this morning! got an everything bagel toasted with garlic and herb cream cheese, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes! PROS: - best bagel i've had in SF so far, it's no NYC bagel from the east coast but it's steps above wise sons and daily driver. - sweet service from kind and helpful workers - great selection, both of bagels and of spreads and toppings - you could tell the bagel was baked fresh that morning - quick service CONS: - a little pricey but hey it's SF - menu was a little confusing, but i just made up my own order and she didn't question it! - could've used a biiiit more spread and slightly higher quality tomatoes, but that's personal preference

Such kind and friendly customer service -- the cashier even ran out of the store to give us an orange juice we forgot at the counter. Love the bagels too!

I Love a Great Bagel. I've spent a lot of time in Manhattan when I was young eating lots of Bagels, and as sacrilegious as it may seem, I don't think NY Bagels are necessarily the "Best." Holey Bagel's Bagels are always Great and Always 100% Fresh. These aren't as Hard and Chewy as a NY Bagel but they're Delicious especially with Cream Cheese or a Schmear.... and they're ALWAYS Freshly Baked that Morning.

Small little bagel shop with a ton of variety that I go to every morning! They have like a 5x5 grid of different bagel selections, and then they also have a variety of cream cheeses you can add to your bagel or you can get a la carte. The ladies who work/own the shop are nice too.

Today I braved Holey Bagel, after months of passing by wistfully, feeling desire mixed with pandemic anxiety. I was excited! Most bagels are vegan, but not all, so I needed to ask "Are all the bagels vegan?" The two women working the counter said they didn't know. I said "You don't know what the ingredients are? Do they have eggs or honey?" They said "They come straight from the warehouse, we don't know what's in them!" They acted as if I were being unreasonable to ask such a crazy question. This is 2021. There are many vegans, not to mention people who are deathly allergic to various ingredients, etc. A bakery that sells its own products should be able to speak to what's in them. If your workers can't talk about youir product, you can label the trays, provide a menu, or create a book that lists ingredients--anything is better than "we don't know and we don't care." I'm trying to patronize a small local business that sells fresh goods. But their attitude is antiquated and not customer-friendly. Someone with dietary restrictions would do better at a chain store or at Amazon/Whole Foods. Very sad.

To be honest, this is not the first place I'd grab a bagel from. I was in the area with a friend looking for a quick meal, and this place had decent ratings, which is why we came. I got a breakfast bagel with sausage, and the ingredients tasted fake? It kind of felt like rubber -- the eggs and the sausage. The bagel itself tasted fine, but it was the add-ons that really let me down. My friend got something similar, and he was disappointed as well. Wouldn't come here again unless I was too hungry to care.

I've even coming here for decades, and Holey Bagel has some of the best bagels in the city. Nice and crunchy, and less doughy than some of the fancier offerings (Wise Sons). Toppings are flavorful, and their homemade cream cheeses are great too, even the low fat! It's hard to find good, affordable bagels in San Francisco, and Holey Bagel is the closest to a classic NYC bagel shop to this bagel snob lol

Bought bagels here today. Asked if they could please slice them. Not only were they annoyed by my request, they told me there is a charge to slice bagels. FWIW, I was literally the only person in the store at the time, and I also received zero thanks for my patronage, just their eye-rolls as they disdainfully sliced my plain bagels.

They have messed up my order many many times, and I get the same thing every single time, however I went in today to let them know that they messed up my bagel.. again.. and they claimed to not remember what I ordered. Overall, they're very slow, sloppy workers.

Went to purchase four bagels and a small container of low fat veggie cream cheese, $12.50 seems pretty expensive for all that. Their receipt is very vague, "custom amount."

The best bagels I've found in SF - and amongst the best bialys I've had ever (including NYC). An idyllic Saturday for me is walking to the Farmer's Market, going HAM on seasonal produce, and then getting a couple of everything bagels toasted with garlic & herb cream cheese to eat while I sit outside & non-creepily admire how cute the kids in Noe Valley are. I am also lol at everyone complaining about the whitefish salad and how the coffee isn't artisan. Take a look around. This is not a boughie spot, this IS a spot that nails the bagel basics. There are no Jewish grandmas hand smoking the trout, there ARE hard-working and lovely Chinese bagel mongers that probably get the chip bags at the SOMA Costco because why not? The bagels are bomb, everything else is inconsequential.

I come to Holey Bagel for freshly made bagels and cream cheese to go. Mmm, I like a variety so I go with the Jalapeno Cheddar, Everything, Garlic and Plain. I love the cream cheeses, they are so creamy and whipped and I love then nice and cold and added to a toasty hot bagel. Next time I'm going to pick up some of their lox cream spread, sounds really good and sometimes I just crave smoked salmon.

Super delicious bagels! I go here every time I visit SF. You can't beat the freshness and Martha's Coffee is just next door! Get the EVERYTHING Bagel!

Bagels on bagels on bagels...oh my! People who know me know how obsessed I am with bagels. But who wouldn't be? There's cream cheese bagels, lox bagels, eggs in bagels..I mean there's endless possibilities to put in two pieces of toasty moist bread. It's easy to fall in love. Located right across from the Saturday morning farmers market is this hidden joint, holey bagels! I can't give this place enough credit. There bagels are superb. They taste so chewy and moist and the cream cheese is perfectly proportioned to the lox. I ordered a poppy bagel with cream cheese and lox and it was delicious! The service was fast and if I lived in the city this would be my go to bagel place!

They get the NY-style bagel right, but everything else falls by the wayside. The interior is a little run down and cramped. I get it...they're no frills in the Noe and that's perfectly OK with me. In fact, I walked in there because I wasn't in the mood for an overpriced "organic grassfed" type of breakfast. Not only did they have trouble with our order it was still almost as pricey as the low fat organic yogurt with rolled blahblah farm's oats and a double cappuccino. We ordered skinnys. I don't think that terminology is limited to new york but they had no idea what I was talking about ... a bagel, with some of the insides scooped out. All the bagel deliciousness but minus some of the carbs. Got a bagel with eggs and cheese and a bagel with lox and cream cheese. Had to re-explain the order 3 times. Yikes. I also watched them microwave eggs when I was told they had a "place" to make eggs. Did they just not walk over to the griddle in the back? No idea. Bagel itself was good, eggs kinda gooey while the other bagel was nothing to write home about.

I've only tried this place twice. Shame on them the first time and shame on me for coming back the second time. Their bagels just don't taste fresh in the morning or in the afternoon. So stale I thought it was a utility for filing my teeth? They should change the name to Holy Crap Bagel instead.

Bagels are...fine here. Nothing spectacular and the price point is notched a bit higher than you'd expect, even for Noe Valley. Whitefish salad here is wayyy too smooth, so less fish and more blank filling. Bagel orders come with a bag of chips, though it's clearly the Costco variety pack, so unless you're into Doritos, you might be out of luck. Small seating area and they do sell shmears and lox in picnic-friendly containers.

Great lox sandwhich at 1/2 the price of Chloe's... Love having them in the neighborhood.

GREAT bagels (chewy, dense inside, thin crackly crust, hard to find on this coast) GREAT owners, fast service. My go-to bagel place on the east side. I love they have a great selection of whole-wheat bagels too. (I wish they had a larger selection of full-fat spreads but it's a small complaint.)

I'm not sure why people think they 1) not live in NYC and 2) real bagels. Especially in Noe Valley. This little shop is like any other bagel place in the city. Really. Several types of bagels and spreads (most spreads are kinda ick). And don't ever get the coffee. However, the Holey Bagel does have an egg & cheese on bagel sandwich. They basically poach and egg in the microwave, melt some cheese and throw it on a toasted bagel. Will cost you 3 bucks (meat or veggies are pricey extras) and makes for a good quick breakfast (or an easy hangover helper).

The sesame bagel (toasted) with cream cheese was not tasty in the slightest. Regardless, great service and really nice people working here.

Best bagels I've found in San Francisco and on the west coast. Coworkers from the east coast and I agree. Holey Bagel is where it is at. LOX are super soft. I always try to bring in a dozen and two low fat cream cheeses once a month for my team at the office. Holey cures the east coast blues. The staff is super fast as well when filling an order, quick in and out process.

Meh, the bagels are kinda dry and the fillings are uninspiring. On the plus side they have a wide selection of bagels so there's always new things to try, and you get a free bag of chips with your bagel - although it's not written anywhere, and they rarely seem to tell you that, which is odd! Anyway, it's an ok place to grab something to eat if you need to fill up but it's definitely not one of my top picks in Noe.

This is the best bagel I've had in SF, made with real NYC style boiler equipment unlike others in the neighborhood. Really fast service and nice staff too. Pro tip: pick up their homemade chive cream cheese in the fridge
