MGM Grand Detroit Casino Workers have ended striking after approving a five-year labor contract | Eater Detroit

"Employees at this casino were part of a group that approved a labor contract on November 19; together with workers at a neighboring property, roughly 2,100 employees ratified agreements that day. The approvals were coordinated through the Detroit Casino Council, the body representing 3,700 casino workers across five unions." - Serena Maria Daniels

Workers at MGM Grand Casino will continue striking, while employees from Hollywood Casino at Greektown MotorCity Casino approve new labor contract | Eater Detroit

"After voting to ratify a five-year contract on November 19, workers at this casino will return to work following a 34-day strike. The agreement, negotiated with the Detroit Casino Council, provides an immediate $3-per-hour raise (about an 18% average wage increase in the first year) and $5-per-hour total raises over the life of the contract, along with no increases to employee health-care costs, workload reductions, strengthened job-security and technology protections consistent with other casino markets, retirement increases, and other improvements." - Serena Maria Daniels

A tentative agreement between unionized workers and Detroit’s casinos has been reached | Eater Detroit

"I saw picket lines outside Hollywood Casino at Greektown as valets, dealers, housekeepers, food and beverage staff, and engineers joined a month-long strike demanding better pay and protections; valet cashier Tavera McCree of Teamsters Local 1038 described the moment as defining for workers and said the gains will change the lives of families living paycheck to paycheck. The tentative five-year contract under review would, if ratified, provide an immediate average 18% raise, no employee health-care cost increases, workload reductions, job-security and technology protections, retirement increases, and other improvements, and John Drake, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown, called the agreement mutually beneficial and said he was eager to welcome back team members." - Serena Maria Daniels

Casino workers in Detroit are on strike to demand higher wages, increased benefits, and job security after years of making concessions during the pandemic | Eater Detroit

"I note that Greektown Casino (now Hollywood Casino at Greektown) opened after MGM and Motor City and that housekeepers there are required to clean 16 rooms a day—roughly two rooms an hour—leaving virtually no time for lunch; attendants at Greektown were also frontline during the pandemic, wearing masks, bringing Lysol, spraying rooms, and feeling terrified while keeping the casinos open." - Serena Maria Daniels

I absolutely love the Hollywood Casino Hotel! We have stayed a few times and every time the rooms are remarkable! I don’t want no other room, but the Luxury King Suite! Amazing views, relaxing atmosphere, and it definitely is a vibe with your significant other. Book this room and ask for a corner room and a high floor. I promise you won’t be disappointed! It comes with 2 bathrooms..one is a half bath, amazing views of the city, the Detroit River, and a front sitting area for guests ,or for you to have a change of scenery with your spouse. I love this room and the huge bathroom with the walk in shower, separate toilet room, and a tub that sits right at the window for you to relax and view the city. Book this and you won’t be disappointed. I promise.

May 31st- June 1st was by far the most inhospitable hotel experience I’ve ever had. While the room looked nice, our bathtub was inoperable during our stay and wasn’t fixed until right before our check out time, which is right where the problems began and things only went downhill from there. The staff were rude, unwelcoming, and unprofessional. We had a discrepancy about check-out timing, were denied late check-out, and harassed by maids and security while waiting for a luggage cart. To make matters worse, we were later charged for “smoke” in the room—despite no one ever smoking there and the hotel not being able to proved proof ! When we returned to dispute the charge, we were met with more hostility. After repeatedly asking to speak with a manager PRIOR to our return, we were finally seen by the assistant manager Chelsea, who was dismissive and passed us off to Ms. Armstrong, Head of Security. She approached with two guards, prompting me to believe she was prepared for a conflict rather than resolution— and she was ! She refused to listen, and quickly tried to remove us. When I began recording the encounter out of disbelief, she threatened to ban me from the casino! This is a HOTEL with ZERO HOSPITALITY. Beautiful rooms mean nothing when the service is this terrible. Skip the stress and all the hassle avoiding construction and stay somewhere like MGM—far more professional and pleasant. I won’t be returning to Greektown, and honestly, being banned would be a favor.

Would not recommend this hotel during the major construction happening until 2026. Roads are totally ripped up so it’s a pain to get around, fences everywhere and you have to walk single file down the sidewalks if you go anywhere else. Apparently no one in the hotel or casino understands what’s going on, we asked how to get to the parking garage and they told us to go down a road that was fully closed. Ended up parking in a city ramp, paid for overnight parking, and had to walk three blocks to check in because they won’t let you take bags through the casino. In 85° weather. Asked multiple staff for directions and no one could give us accurate information. Zero signage anywhere. Food court is decent but expensive. There’s also a club nearby so you can hear the music bumping until 2am even on the 14th floor. Plenty of other casinos to go to, we won’t be back.

Mixed feelings. Location was great. Lots of food options and bars around. Room was clean ish. A few surfaces missed but nothing too crazy. Valet staff were very kind. Walls were incredibly thin though. We were ready for bed at 11 and after complaining to front desk twice about the noise we finally fell asleep after midnight. Check out was smooth but they didn’t ask us about our stay. I had to mention the fact that our phone didn’t work properly and about the noise and it wasn’t received well. I suggested they have security monitor the floors for noise after 11. She wasn’t rude but not concerned by any means that we didn’t have a good sleep. I had to go back to the front desk to ask about parking and if it needed to be validated at self park and her answer was very short and to the point. Again not rude but I left feeling very uncomfortable about bringing these to her attention. It’s very disappointing that I wouldn’t have to go full Karen to get her to understand how the stay was not worth the money we paid.

I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of this hotel. Everything was dirty. The elevators, all of the carpets, as well as the baseboards in the rooms. The room had thick dust everywhere even on the room telephone. The bed linens and towels were dingy. There are no microwaves in the rooms. The entire hotel reeks of stale cigarettes. This was a first and last time for me. They should take that surprise 55 amenities fee and hire a cleaning crew.

The room was amazing with a fantastic view of Ford Field and the GM building. It was clean and the bathroom was luxe with a walk-in shower and soaking tub. Latoya checked me in and from the first moment, she was super friendly even though she was busy. After a long day of travel and arriving at night, she was the perfect person to welcome me me to the hotel. Thanks, Latoya!

Great stay. Other than trying to navigate all the construction and the bed being uncomfortable, it was overall a good clean casino and room..security was present..
