MGM Grand Detroit Casino Workers have ended striking after approving a five-year labor contract | Eater Detroit

"Employees at this casino were part of a group that approved a labor contract on November 19; together with workers at a neighboring property, roughly 2,100 employees ratified agreements that day. The approvals were coordinated through the Detroit Casino Council, the body representing 3,700 casino workers across five unions." - Serena Maria Daniels

Workers at MGM Grand Casino will continue striking, while employees from Hollywood Casino at Greektown MotorCity Casino approve new labor contract | Eater Detroit

"After voting to ratify a five-year contract on November 19, workers at this casino will return to work following a 34-day strike. The agreement, negotiated with the Detroit Casino Council, provides an immediate $3-per-hour raise (about an 18% average wage increase in the first year) and $5-per-hour total raises over the life of the contract, along with no increases to employee health-care costs, workload reductions, strengthened job-security and technology protections consistent with other casino markets, retirement increases, and other improvements." - Serena Maria Daniels

A tentative agreement between unionized workers and Detroit’s casinos has been reached | Eater Detroit

"I saw picket lines outside Hollywood Casino at Greektown as valets, dealers, housekeepers, food and beverage staff, and engineers joined a month-long strike demanding better pay and protections; valet cashier Tavera McCree of Teamsters Local 1038 described the moment as defining for workers and said the gains will change the lives of families living paycheck to paycheck. The tentative five-year contract under review would, if ratified, provide an immediate average 18% raise, no employee health-care cost increases, workload reductions, job-security and technology protections, retirement increases, and other improvements, and John Drake, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown, called the agreement mutually beneficial and said he was eager to welcome back team members." - Serena Maria Daniels

Casino workers in Detroit are on strike to demand higher wages, increased benefits, and job security after years of making concessions during the pandemic | Eater Detroit

"I note that Greektown Casino (now Hollywood Casino at Greektown) opened after MGM and Motor City and that housekeepers there are required to clean 16 rooms a day—roughly two rooms an hour—leaving virtually no time for lunch; attendants at Greektown were also frontline during the pandemic, wearing masks, bringing Lysol, spraying rooms, and feeling terrified while keeping the casinos open." - Serena Maria Daniels

We got to the hotel around 1pm and were told that there were no rooms available and to come back at 2pm. No biggie. So we came back a little after 2pm to be told there were no rooms available and to come back at 3pm. At this point my wife and I were getting a little fed up. So we came back at 315pm and finally got checked into our room on the 20th floor. After unpacking and situating things how we want I went to turn on the TV to relax for an hour or so before making our way to LCA for the Pistons game. Well lo and behold the TV doesnt even come on. It doesnt work. So I called guest services to tell them that our TV wasnt working (its not a big deal but its nice to have). She replies back that we would have to go downstairs and they would check us into another room. At this point in my stay (if you even want to call it that so far) Im less than pleased with customer/guest services. No "Im sorry" from them regarding anything.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a concert that was at LCA and it was amazing! We had the weekend of lifetime! The staff was incredibly nice and awesome. We loved the casino and hotel. The shower was the best rain shower I've ever used. The view from our high rise room was so great. Also we had a very nice dinner at the Prism Steakhouse. The seafood boil is a must experience meal. We were impressed with the hospitality and great vibes from all the staff from the moment we arrived. Also the people mover is connected to this place you can experience so much of Detroit while you stay. Thank you!! We will absolutely be back!

Room was great, casino floor was a little smokey but didn't bother me any. We had a great view of downtown Detroit and the Renaissance center from our room, pretty neat!

From the moment I arrived, the experience was completely horrendous. Customer service was terrible—when calling the front desk, staff answered the phone as if they didn’t want to be bothered. Even worse, the front desk staff were dressed inappropriately; one employee was wearing a crop top, stomach exposed, which is highly unprofessional for a hotel setting. When I entered my room, I immediately noticed multiple issues: • The tissue box was empty. • The bed sheets and linens were extremely wrinkled. • The fitted sheet had a large hole, exposing the cotton on the mattress. I called to request a linen change, and the housekeeping staff who arrived was rude and aggressive, openly complaining about how it was time for her to go home. She even admitted that management is aware most of the sheets have holes and that the washing machines are damaging the linens further. To top it off, when I requested a late checkout to try and salvage the stay, I was told I’d have to pay $60 just for one extra hour—with no regard for the multiple problems I experienced. This was by far one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. The lack of professionalism, cleanliness, and hospitality is unacceptable for any hotel, especially one connected to a casino. I will not return, and I do not recommend this property to anyone looking for quality accommodations in Detroit

I have stayed at Hollywood Casino at Greektown 2-3 times a year for years, and this is normally the only hotel I choose when visiting Detroit. Unfortunately, this recent stay (checked in Friday, checked out today) was unlike any experience I’ve had before. I arrived at 7 PM and was told there were no clean rooms available. I put my name on a waiting list and didn’t receive a call that my room was ready until 10:47 PM. I was initially offered a $50 beverage credit for the inconvenience, which I felt was not enough, and was then offered $100 off the night—something I accepted, assuming the room would at least be cleaned. When we got to the room, it was clear it had not been cleaned: hair from a beard in the bathroom, sticky floors, and trash still in the garbage. I requested housekeeping, but no one ever came—not that night, and not the next day. At noon the next day, I went to the front desk and spoke with a manager who assured me the room would be cleaned while I was out. When I returned at 6 PM, nothing had been done. I asked again and was offered either a downgrade to a smaller room or to wait for cleaning. Even after that, the room was never cleaned. Some of the staff were helpful—particularly the young woman with the ponytail at the front desk, who was wonderful. But overall, management failed to handle this situation appropriately, and the hotel itself felt dirty and poorly managed during this stay. This experience was disappointing and frustrating, especially from a hotel I’ve trusted for years. I truly hope management takes steps to improve their operations and communication, because this stay did not live up to the standards I’ve come to expect.

Asked for toilet paper 3 times, no one brought any. Asked for the steamer they claim is in the room, never got it. Asked to have the trash emptied, they never showed, so trash is on the floor. The front desk lady who answered when I called said Oh, we will send it up. Still nothing. I went the front desk and asked in person and the lady said, how about I put you want everything? Guess what, still no toilet paper, towels, or emptying of trash.

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times with no issues. This past stay was less than desirable. The room was dirty, floor was sticky. There was a flat sheet on the bed being used as a fitted sheet. The flat sheet came loose and there were stains of bodily fluids on the bed underneath the sheet right where my head was laying. It was disgusting! There was hair in the bathroom on the floor and we killed 4 stink bugs in our room.

We had a great time. The room was clean and had everything we needed and then some. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower was great. The staff was courteous and helpful. We had a fantastic experience and will be booking another stay again in the future.
