"San Diego’s first dedicated matcha cafe is expanding. Since it landed on University Avenue in March 2017, Holy Matcha has been a fixture on Instagram feeds for a chic aesthetic that combines millennial pink and tropical prints with an of-the-moment menu of matcha-based beverages and vegan treats. Created by founder Geraldine Ridaura and inspired by her love of Japanese tea culture, the cafe offers ceremonial-grade matcha whisked in the traditional Japanese method and more modern green tea drinks including matcha horchata and matcha lemonade. Ridaura is still keeping its exact location under wraps, but the next Holy Matcha will land in the East Village sometime early next year. The 820-square-foot space is another collaboration with San Francisco-based architectural firm HOMEWORK, but this outpost’s design will feature a “sophisticated, minimalist” take on the original cafe. It will offer Holy Matcha’s core beverages as well as specialty matcha drinks exclusive to the neighborhood; its trendy treats, including avocado toast, gluten-free and vegan waffles and doughnuts, and dairy-free soft-serve ice cream, will transfer over too." - Candice Woo

"Made-for-Instagram Holy Matcha is a cafe in North Park serving—surprise!—matcha and other buzzy wellness drinks and snacks. The name of the game here is (millennial?) pink with smart green accents, many of the tropical and neon kind." - Jackie Bryant

Cute Spot, good food! Wall decor is a little bland, so you don’t get that aesthetic photo if you are looking for that aspect! (7 tables for 2-3) not really accommodating to large groups! They have an adorable Photo Booth in the Lobby!

This place is a disappointment, the design and decoration are beautiful but the drink is not worth its a complete waste of money. The matcha is minuscule and lacked the matcha flavor, it was like drinking a mini glass of oat milk for $9.50. They only have non dairy milk options. It is surprising since this place specializes in matcha..

I haven't been here since they first opened! That's me with the pink hair circa 9 years ago. My cousin brought me because we loved the aesthetic and I think this was one of my first experiences with matcha and avocado toast🤌🏻💕 I returned here recently which coincidentally turned out to be their 9 year anniversary of being open! We came to get some cute pix of my grandma for her 95th birthday. My cousin and husband got the horchata matcha, which was really good! Not that I was surprised, but I got a classic strawberry matcha because that's been my jam lately and a concha! Both were delicious! It wasn't as busy as I expected for a Saturday, there was a pop up that day, that had baked goods inside and there were many people using the photo booth. Still love the matcha versatility and still love the aesthetic!

Holy matcha is a cafe with a beautiful ambience and lots of matcha options. We had the everyday matcha latte and lavender lattes. The lattes range $8 and above. They also have specials. We also had the avocado tomato toast which was yummy, but really tiny for the price. Overall, a nice place to catchup with friends and enjoy a nice cup of latte. They also have a Photo Booth and some cute items to sell.

I expected much more from a cafe that specializes in matcha. I took a matcha latte and its price is higher than in other cafes. First of all, the preparation technology was not followed. Second, the drink was so hot that it was impossible to drink. The matcha itself was of poor quality and had a bitter taste. The atmosphere of the place is good, the style is interesting. Many additional accessories are available for sale. However, I do not recommend coming here for those who really like matcha. I am disappointed with the quality of the drink and the taste

The girls working are so sweet and fun :’) Finally some good matcha in san diego fr! The avocado toast was so yummy! Most places use spread for avocados which i hate, so i’m so glad it was actual avocado slices 🥑 and the flowers added on top are so cute. Lots of options that all sound good, i wish there was a local place like this where i’m from :’’)

The cutest matcha shop I’ve seen - the atmosphere is 10/10. Very Instagram-worthy to snap a cute photo with your drink. That being said, the matcha is delicious and very smooth. It’s even served with an edible flower on top. They have a variety of flavors and sweetness levels to customize your beverage to your liking. Plus you can pick up some merch like crew necks and tote bags!
