Where to eat and drink at Daikin Park while watching the Houston Astros. - Houston - The Infatuation

"Location: Sections 113, 129, 156, 251, and 427 The Pennant Pickle Dog is the perfect ball game hot dog because it balances the heat of the jalapeño slaw with the crisp brininess of the fried pickle chips. And while it’s not exactly a light snack, this hot dog still feels refreshing. Plus, a few bites will inspire you to circle back to the Saint Arnold’s stand for an equally refreshing Lawnmower beer. And when you can’t decide between barbecue and a classic dog during the game, get the Bayou City Hot Dog. The 12-inch dog comes topped with tender smoked pork burnt ends, a mountain of melted cheese sauce, and a dash of heat on the back end from their spicy BBQ sauce. Try this one on an empty stomach and with an extra serving of napkins." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Google
Great beer selection, awesome food and sitting outside under the starts watching a large screen video screen made it so fun. Even taking music with the bartender/server was great!

Tino Tolentino

Google
The best wings in town, a cold beer for every taste, and staff that makes you feel like a regular. A perfect sports bar experience

Google
We went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't crowded. Had a great atmosphere. Loved the outdoor seating and being able to watch the game on that big screen. Staff was great! Order drinks and food at the bar and self seating. Ordering was easy and fast. We tried a few of their drinks and were all good but the gold rush was fantastic. I had the Spicy surf and turf burrito and it was hands down the best burrito to ever cross my lips!! I definitely recommend a visit!!

Google
Everything about this establishment is great. The staff is stellar, knowledgeable, attentive, but still friendly and laid back. The beer and liquor selection was excellent with plenty of local favorites. The seating was spacious indoor and outdoor to suit your preference. The music playlist was on point The menu was extensive and well priced for the high amount and quality of bar food offerings. Everyone with us really enjoyed the vibe, food, and drinks! A must visit in San Diego for sure!

Google
I love the energy. Not pretentious and chill. They do UFC nights which is great. Drink selection is excellent. I have been disappointed with the main dishes offered (I’ve tried wings and burgers), but maybe other options would be the better move. The bar itself is inviting and the staff is generally congenial and relaxed.

Michael Peek

Google
Excellent place for an after work drink or some other occasion. Their bar food is better than most bars by far (but to be honest, I only had the carne asada tacos). They have some tables and outdoor seating. Recommended.

A. Richardson

Google
Place is packed during football season. Love the staff and team! Great local spot for the family and friends!

Sean Pisoni

Google
Solid! Hit the taco Tuesday and not disappointed. Fun staff, lots of games on, good tunes cranking.

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch today. Fairly slow at noon. I had. The Carne Asada sandwich with tater tots. Man, that was good. Bar service was fast and easy. Only about 15-20 things on menu but I will definitely try Some other items when I go back. Really good beer selection

Yelp
While visiting family in the area, we all went to Home & Away for Taco Tuesday. This place is one of my brother in law's favorites. There's a nice outside seating area and pretty good bar food here. You order at the bar, find a seat and they bring your food. I had the Carne Asada tacos, my wife had a shrimp and a pork taco and my daughter had chicken tacos. These were reasonably priced at $3.50 for each taco. The place was jumping with lots of people there and the NBA playoffs on the TVs. Looks to be a good watering hole not too far from the airport. I will return here one day.

Yelp
One of my favorite sports bars to watch games at. There's plenty of street parking and they have a small parking lot in front. Love the indoor and outdoor areas. They also have heaters which is definitely clutch when it's during the cooler months. Food: my favorite are the wings and nachos. I usually get that, but I need to try the other stuff on the menu! This time around, I did order the carne asada tacos; tbh they were a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The service was very nice and the staff is always friendly! One thing they could add on their menu is guacamole. They have chips and salsa, but no guacamole. :( My most favorite part about this bar is that it is pet friendly! I'll definitely be back again and again.

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't get to experience much of the inside but we did have their food! Apparently after 9PM they only serve 21 and over. We showed up at 9:03 with our kids in tow and we had walked there from our hotel after a long day of walking everywhere so we were starving and tired. Thankfully they let us order to go food and we ordered the adult grilled cheese, the carbs asada sandwich, and the smoked chicken tacos. The grilled cheese was delicious. It's a mix of cheeses and has sundried tomato spread and basil on it and it was on sourdough bread. Comes with a pickle spear and fries or tots. We got fries and they tasted like skinny steak fries. 4/5 The carne asada sandwich. Comes with peppers, garlic aioli, arugula, guyere cheese. Came with fries or tots. Got tots which were crispy and delicious. 5/5 Smoked chicken street tacos (3) came with cajote cheese, onions, cilantro, avocado verde salsa. They were so flavorful and full of lots of meat. More than enough to fill you up. Came with tortilla chips. 4/5 While we were waiting we got a Home & Away Mexican Lager. Good flavor and smooth enough for a casual beer drinker. 5/5 I would go back to try and try here during normal business hours so we could sit inside the restaurant but the food was good and they made it quickly.

Yelp
It is a fun place to hangout with friends. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very nice. We ordered a hamburger and wings with our drinks and everything was good. We will come back. Ladies, be ready for a bathroom with 2 toilets and half of a wall which I didn't mind lol it was funny.
google avatar

Jordyn J.

Yelp
Wings were great! Tacos were hit or miss. The fish taco wasn't great, however, the steak was fantastic. I'll definitely stick to steak next time I come here.. it was great! Great drink selection and love the atmosphere of the games playing and the outdoor section with the big screen. Super fun. Perfect for game day
google avatar

Diane K.

Yelp
We met here for an extracurricular meeting. Everyone was very welcoming as soon as you walk through the door. Very military friendly. Food was awesome. I went with the bar tender's recommendation of the fish tacos. Definitely did NOT disappoint. Very chill and laid back sports atmosphere.
google avatar

Rick D.

Yelp
Looked promising. Sports bar, big screen, large outdoor area. Tater tots extremely salty, fries too salty, Carne asada Sandwich meat extremely salty. Classic Burger had offputting freezer or refrigerator taste in the meat. I'm assuming over salting is to try to make you drink more? Great beer selection. Order from the bar take a seat and a number and your food is delivered to you. Service is average. It looks like a great place for drinks, but that's about it.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Yes, it's a bar, but you can bring your kids for lunch. The staff are very friendly and even with kids will make you feel welcomed. My son saw the restaurant on yelp and they showed a burger that caught his eye. So we came ate and left satisfied. I would definitely come back here again. From burgers, to wings, to fish tacos this place is the spot! Don't forget to get the Tatar totts
google avatar

Nicole Erin B.

Yelp
We've been coming to Home and Away for football watch parties for the past few years. They have a great outdoor patio setup with a massive screen and heaters or umbrellas to accommodate any weather. The staff is incredibly friendly. Unfortunately the menu doesn't really accommodate gluten allergies with the only option being an underwhelming yet pricey salad. It's difficult to spend 3-5 hours there on a weekend without options for food, especially when drinking. The parking situation is also difficult on busy game days since the restaurant only has about 5 designated spaces and street parking throughout the surrounding blocks is tricky.

Karin P.

Yelp
Chose this place for a casual dinner due to dog friendly patio and could not have left more disappointed. In my adult life I've sent back food only one time prior and here I had to do it TWICE. Ordered the nachos no meat since I'm a vegetarian and for $15 all that I got was a plate of chips with some cotija cheese and the tiniest bit of beans I've ever seen. I brought it back as this did not match the description on the menu and asked if they could kindly add more beans and cheddar cheese as the menu described. Please look in the pic how they returned them to me, you can't make this up. Partner ordered the fish tacos which came out cold. Disappointed bc we wanted to love this place due to the vibe. Yuck!

Yelp
The old town Paloma was delicious and had a good amount of alcohol in it. Service was fast and friendly. It would be a good place to go watch a game. Lots of space with a big tv.
google avatar

Mara M.

Yelp
Solid food, good service and plenty of space to watch the games (inside and out). Critiques would be putting umbrellas outside for game days where it is hot and crowded and making water and water cups more readily available. Water jug was empty every time I checked and cups nowhere to be found. Also the line for the women's bathroom gets really long because it is one locked door but once you get inside there are two stalls but there is no divider in between them (see photos). Honestly REALLY weird - who is this bathroom for? They should make the two toilets in the women's bathroom be two separate stalls that lock and remove the lock on the actual bathroom door. Simple fix that would make a world of difference. Overall, great bar. Just needs to make some easy updates to account for its popularity and create a better experience for patrons.

Yelp
I am shook at how great this little place was. Drove past so many times . The inside is so nice. Big bar. Great bartender. Great space with a large outdoor patio. I ordered some chicken tacos . Side of tater tots because why not (Shrug)? . The chicken tacos were amazing and had a really nice smoked flavor, tied with the pickled onions cotija cheese,.... Perfection. T bar-b-q sauce for those tots.... was lip smacking good. I was not expecting the food to be that good but it was. I'll be back tomorrow. lol. .
google avatar

Richard V.

Yelp
Wish I found this place sooner. THE BEST chiefs bar and overall sports bar in San Diego. Great chicken tenders and decent prices for drinks. Love this place.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Four times to be exact. Three times at night when they are closing up shop. Came each time on Thursday-Friday-Saturday night. Usually within the last two hours of them closing down. it's usually quiet and super chill. Twenty people at the most with two bartenders and one barback working. The fourth time I came here was during a Chiefs playoff game and it was packed. To the point where you couldn't find seating if you arrived within one hour of the game. I've had a handful of their food here. Spicy Thai Chicken Wings, Wedge Salad, and Shrimp Nachos. The Shrimp Nachos were my fav of the three. It was a nice blend of sauce, cheese and toppings on it. It also helps that there was a really good amount of shrimp on it. Their beer selection has a lot of craft beers on it and ones I'm not too familiar with. There's a lot of IPA's and light beers on it which aren't my fav. I prefer dark beers and they only have one or two. I did have a nice sour here and a lovely cider. There's two bathrooms inside which by the end of the night is pretty nasty. But there are a few outside which I don't think people really notice since it's tucked away in the back corner and those are much more better. The sink to wash hands are outside of the bathrooms so you have to look for it and you get to call out people who leave and don't wash their hands. For when it's packed there are many spots to sit inside and outside. Maybe I didn't notice or maybe it's special because for the game but I feel like they have additional seating that they roll out and repack away after game days. There's a bar inside and outside for game days. Forget about parking in their lot. They have maybe 8 spots. And because it's in Old Town parking is always going to be tight. I usually have to park and walk 5-10 minutes. Four stars because this spot can be both a place to get lit and be in good company when the game is on or for you to just kinda have a drink and be out but not be overcrowded during the late night hours. Whenever I find myself in Old Town I always find myself at Home & Away
google avatar

Clythie C.

Yelp
Home & Away has great bar food, a fun atmosphere for sports fans, and great service. I love sitting outside after a bike ride on the patio. The whole place feels more like a party than a bar/restaurant. Friendly vibes all around. And they have a parking lot too.
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
Local gem to grab some tacos and brews while enjoying some sun. Home and Away has all the elements, great food, fast service, cold beer, and excellent outdoor space to accommodate large crowds. Only con is finding street parking so you can enjoy.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Still, after all of these years, I'm loving Home & Away and really need to make a point of coming as a destination, not just when I'm in the Old Town area. The patio is awesome and it's a damn shame I didn't have a chance to catch a football game there this season as the TV setup is epic - it's also a Chiefs bar, I believe. I wish I could speak to the food lately but I can't, it's been ages and on my last visit I was stuffed from a brunch down the street, but if you know me, drinks are always on the menu. That being said, my drink (vodka/soda) was poured with card, served with a smile, and the price didn't break the bank. So what are you waiting for? Don't let the cold weather scare you as the patio has some great heaters waiting to keep you nice and warm!
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday morning to watch football. We are from out of town and wanted to watch our team, the NY Giants. Started early, for us with chips and salsa. Nice bite to the salsa. Moved on to beer, very reasonable, and their smash burger and fries. Excellent! The ambiance is sports and dogs (outside and on the patio). What a fun start to our week in San Diego. I would recommend for sports fans. There is also a coffee "cart" out front with good coffee.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Navy Buddy hangout completed! Tacos were fab, but make sure you specify the right amount of onions... I think I ate 10 tacos...fish, beef, etc. all were good! Good local brew selection. Service is at the bar.
google avatar

Branson U.

Yelp
Such a great find and I was extremely surprised with the amount of space Home & Away has for their guests to sit and hang with their watch parties. This is one of the best bars to come and watch any big game. They have tons of Tv's to be able to view at any angle. The Big screen outdoors is perfect for outside viewing and they also have two TV's for if the umbrellas block any view of the big screen. What also makes Home & Away a great spot to catch a game is that the food here is very very good! On Top of food being pretty tasty the drinks are just as good. There is an ample beer selection on Draft to choose from as well as a large selection of craft cocktails for those people wanting something fresh on a hot sunny day. Cant wait to return for some more Padre games.
google avatar

Morgan W.

Yelp
Great after work spot, especially if you're a sports fan and want to watch a game. Great variety of beers and cocktails. I usually get the coco poncho cocktail which is coconut, lime, and tequila. It's wonderful on a hot day. Their burgers are fantastic. The 22 is my favorite and I will usually get it lettuce wrapped but obviously it's great on a bun. Chicken wings are fire and come in three different flavors. They really know how to make "bar" food. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Old Town. They have a great outdoor space with a huge tv that would be great for watching a sports game. It's also dog friendly. The drinks were very reasonable priced. We will have to come back to try the food.
google avatar

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
Food is mediocre. No table service during a UFC fight. Mostly outdoor seating. They had a big movie style screen outdoors for the fight screening.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Found Home + Away through my work and SO glad I did! This is our new favorite spot to watch Chiefs games, as the bar is spacious and there are large tvs to view from everywhere. The tots are elite and I enjoyed my wings as well! I enjoyed the pink mojito, which I highly recommend, and expect to be here most game days!
google avatar

Timothy B.

Yelp
Came here to watch Joe Flacco try to do the impossible. The place itself is large with plenty of standing, and seated area. My buddy and I didn't order any alcoholic drinks, but everything is ordered at the bar including food. We got an order of their original and a spicy Thai wings. I love wings and both of these tasted great with a nice fry on them. The game was easy to watch with plenty of TV's. Great atmosphere for sports and I'm sure it would've been even better if I stayed for the KC game.
google avatar

Eddie W.

Yelp
Place is a great sports bar without the "sports bro" vibe. Food is a great value for the quality. Service is extremely amicable. This is amazing for families, groups or just wanting to watch the Padres.
google avatar

Nato S.

Yelp
I'm thinking this place might be one of the better spots I've been to in this town. Surprisingly affordable and pry the best tacos I've had north of the border.

Ray B.

Yelp
Updating my original review here (original below): They changed the seating outside to be much more inclusive and easier for people to see the screen while they sit. I'd still like to see some rules regarding saving so many seats though. -- They changed the seating outside and now people are taking up a table that seats 6 with 2 people. Waste of space. And tons of people are saving 5-10 seats at a time which is wild when there's so many people looking for a spot. We also got there very early. Please make a rule that you can't save that many seats. We love the Chiefs and watching games at the bar, but we left and we won't be back if this continues. It's not fair.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
I fell in love with this place five years ago when I spent a month in San Diego on business. I returned for the ATD Conference this past weekend and it was just as good as I remember. Great food. Excellent service. And for a die-hard fan of the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs, it's a home away from home Chiefs bar! One of my favorite places in the city. I'll always stop by when I'm in town!!!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
Fun, casual bar with a great outdoor space. It's also large group and dog friendly so there are options for different group sizes. There's a good mix between cocktails and beer options. I've tried some food items and they're classic bar food options. The staff is also great - friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Stacey M.

Yelp
Come for the vibe, stay for the food. Perfect atmosphere, lots of laid back people coming to watch whatever game is on at the moment. The patio is really nice and they have about 20 beers on tap so there's bound to be something you like. Got the smokin tacos with pork and they were really good, the pork was good quality but if you're scared of grease, I would opt for the other protein option. The spicy burrito was also really good - they put fresh jalapeños in it so definitely make sure you have something to drink to cool it off. We would definitely come back!

Byron T.

Yelp
Got the carne asada tacos. Food took a long time to come out about a 45 minute wait. The kitchen was definitely busy on a Sunday afternoon with NFL Playoff games on. Tacos came out, and the meat was definitely over cooked. Super dry and tasteless. Portions for the tacos were also pretty small. Would not order the tacos again.
google avatar

Charity H.

Yelp
Love visiting this place when we come to SD. Their tots are DELICIOUS. It's a chill vibe with friendly servers and bartenders.
google avatar

Mel M.

Yelp
First of all, GO CHIEFS! Home and Away is the best place to catch a football game, especially if you're a CHIEFS fan. Their beer menu is expansive, their cocktails are stiff and their food is fantastic! They have pinball machines and a wonderful outdoor area, which makes this place very dog and kid friendly- I even saw a pet pig here once! Let me finish this review by saying-GO CHIEFS!

J C.

Yelp
Very good food, attentive staff and not too busy on an early Friday night. Would recommend and will go back.
google avatar

Zobeyda F.

Yelp
Boyfriend and I decided to go to a bar with a friend and most of the bars in old town were already closed since it was past 10 pm but Home and Away doesn't close until late,it was a 20 minute walk from our hotel but the walk was well worth it, We ordered the nachos and they were great, the nacho chips themselves looked homemade since they were puffy and crunchy like they had been baked, the meat was well flavored and the pico wasn't too spicy. Our bartender was very friendly and gave tequila recommendations and got our drinks out quickly. I ordered a dirty Shirley and was told it was 90% vodka which I didn't expect since I could barely taste it,which I really liked about the drink. It is quite loud inside- it is a bar after all,but easy to manage. Staff overall is very nice and attentive and it's a perfect spot to hit late at night to enjoy your time.

Sierra A.

Yelp
The perfect bar to watch a sports game! Lots of outdoor seating and reasonable pricing.

Yelp
AN OUTPOST RE-PLACED I recently went on a backpacking trip inside the grand canyon. Located inside the canyon there is a group of cabins and a food counter called Phantom Ranch. The establishment exists as a sort of miracle and mirage at the same time. It should not exist there and yet you are thankful it does. I wish that you may see this place one day. But if you don't. Home & Away may just suffice. The building is low-slung and clad in wood. It gave me the feeling of walking into a saloon. I have no doubt that it would look at home placed among a desert backdrop like the one mentioned before. Walking outside to the patio facing east you notice a rock wall rising 15-20 feet. The wall nestles you and fellow customers in and for a moment I can imagine myself back in the desert. We can find good food almost anywhere. On my visit the wings were excellent. Where are wings truly disappointing? I do not know. With so many excellent options in the city perhaps we must create narratives that set one place apart from the rest. I did. If you find yourself here looking out toward that rock wall. Close your eyes and transport yourself somewhere. The next bite, sip, or laugh may be that much better. A note on my drink. I ordered the bubbly burro. I found it to be watery and lacking sweetness for my taste. However, my cousin ordered the moscow mule and it was quite tasty.

Yelp
This is our game watch bar for UT. The staff is great at this spot. They have a huge outdoor area to host a large group - umbrellas / lots of picnic tables. They have a large outdoor screen for the game. They also have several TVs throughout the outdoor/indoor space. They have an outdoor bar to order from as well. They started serving Shiner for the UT games. It is dog friendly. They offer a full menu - the tacos are all great. The street parking is easy and it is located a short walk to Old Town. The bathrooms are a little scary, but everything else is great.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Yelps They did a fantastic job today . And the food was great and great ambience. From Andrew yelp reviews.

Zoe N.

Yelp
Came here for the first time this past weekend and the burger was soo good. Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Kristin K.

Yelp
Quick notes: atmosphere is outdoors meets bar meets eclectic. It's is great to visit during cooler seasons (I don't think they have an A/C, if they do I do not think they run it often). Great outdoor seating area with a large screen. Great for groups for sporting events. Drinks are ok, but I like their tap selections. Food is pretty good too. Eclectic comes in when you go to the ladies bathroom; makes no sense Service is friendly and pretty quick. I like stopping here if I am in Old Town, but parking can be hard so you may want to Uber.
google avatar

Leo U.

Yelp
85% sure this is a gay bar. Do what you like with that info. Minus 2 stars for slow sevice on a Monday and dirty bathrooms. Drinks were ok. I'd go back for a late open, last resort bar in the area. Overall not bad, but could use some work.
google avatar

Lina E.

Yelp
Great spot, super chill atmosphere. Being from San Diego I couldn't believe it was my first time there! I'm Bumbed we missed the food but I'll be back!Service was good and I really enjoyed the big TVs outside.o
google avatar

Patrick C.

Yelp
Cool local sports bar. Lots of seating inside, not a big parking lot. Came on Tuesday and the taco Tuesday special was awesome. Great food. A decent selection of beer. Nice place to watch a game
google avatar

KayAnna S.

Yelp
A fun bar with plenty of seating! Great for large groups too. Very limited parking in the lot and it is difficult to find street parking as the street is pretty busy. Has a full bar so definitely can order whatever you prefer. Jumbo screen outside, great for sport viewing. No dance floor unfortunately so more just a place to hang out with friends. I still prefer the encinitas location but this one is fun too!
google avatar

Terrence S.

Yelp
I came here during Game one of the NBA playoffs with some friends. It's a nice bar with a beautiful back patio area complete with trees and the native SD land, as well as a giant screen for sports games. It's a nice touch when they play good music during commercials too. We sat outside near the side gate where a lot of people were coming in and out, and every time the gate closed it slammed and shook the entire fence which disturbed where we were eating. There were also a lot of people smoking and vaping in the outdoors area, so keep that in mind when you're eating outside. To get food you have to go inside to the counter, and there was a bit of a line. The food does take a bit of time to come out, for me about 20-25 minutes. I had the classical cheeseburgerr with tots, which were pretty good. Juicy patty with a fair amount of veggies and crunch to each bite. The tots were crispy as well. Didn't like the BBQ sauce, which was too sweet and fruity for my taste and not tangy enough, whereas the ranch was solid for my taste. Also had a bite of my friend's fried chicken and beyond the fried exterior, the white chicken meat on the inside was too dry. All in all, I had a pretty average experience here, got some positives and had a good time with solid food, but didn't exactly blow me away either.
