Where to eat and drink at Daikin Park while watching the Houston Astros. - Houston - The Infatuation

"Location: Sections 113, 129, 156, 251, and 427 The Pennant Pickle Dog is the perfect ball game hot dog because it balances the heat of the jalapeño slaw with the crisp brininess of the fried pickle chips. And while it’s not exactly a light snack, this hot dog still feels refreshing. Plus, a few bites will inspire you to circle back to the Saint Arnold’s stand for an equally refreshing Lawnmower beer. And when you can’t decide between barbecue and a classic dog during the game, get the Bayou City Hot Dog. The 12-inch dog comes topped with tender smoked pork burnt ends, a mountain of melted cheese sauce, and a dash of heat on the back end from their spicy BBQ sauce. Try this one on an empty stomach and with an extra serving of napkins." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Google
Great local sports bar. Great vibes at Home and Away. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There is a huge outdoor screen and TV's everywhere. We had a smash burger, chicken strips and carne asada sandwich. There were no complaints with the food. The smash burger was fantastic. The meals come with fries or tater tots and of course we all got tater tots. It was a great place to watch sports and tonight it was the NFL Thursday night game. The service was walk up and order from the bar, not much staff walking around checking on tables. If I lived in the area, it would be a place I would visit to watch sporting events and enjoy some good bar eats.

Google
These are not just your average wings! Phenomenal and in my humble opinion the best in San Diego. Honorable mention to the smash burger, so good. One thing to know about this place though, extremely loud. The TVs speakers are blasting inside.

Benjamin W.

Google
Came here for Thursday night football with the boys. I had the Tachos and they went with burgers. Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and going up to the bar to order. Also there’s no shortage of screens, so everyone has a viewing angle to watch the game. Their outside area was great, especially in the fall when the weather is still warm. Food came out quick and was tasty.

Google
A great local hangout. Good staff, a good menu, and a cool location with indoor and outdoor seating. A very popular local favorite. Full bar and good snacks. We have had very successful company parties there, or just a couple of people hanging out. If you live in the area or are passing through, it is a hidden gem.

Google
Great spot for happy hour! Love watching any and all games here with the big screen outside, perfect for San Diego weather. Beer selection is great, cocktails are delicious, with typical bar food. Vegan salad on the menu and some vegetarian options but I pretty much go for the drinks. Vibe and atmosphere are fun, and staff are always friendly.

Colleen H.

Google
Excellent service! Best tots I've ever had. Blackened shrimp taco was my favorite I didn't care for the pork one it was too smoky. The grilled cheese was okay. It was a great way to try it during happy hour!

Google
Great beer selection, awesome food and sitting outside under the starts watching a large screen video screen made it so fun. Even taking music with the bartender/server was great!

Stopped by with friends before a show a few days ago. We go out around town often and had high hopes for this place. But the food and drinks were both awful and expensive. The food was doused in lime and heavy seasonings, which made it impossible to enjoy. The beef sprinkled on the nachos was awful. The mixed drinks were expensive and weak. Tasted like watered-down OJ with no alcohol for $$. I was starving and thirsty when we arrived, and still starving and thirsty when we left. Everyone at my table pushed their food away after a few bites. I've never had a worse experience anywhere in San Diego, and I've lived here for 40 years. That tells you how bad the food & drink are here. The place itself has potential, and the service was good. But we'll never return.

Yelp
Enjoying appetizers and drinks--both at home and away--is always a great experience. Jesse is an outstanding bartender who delivers high-standard service every time. Thank you, Jesse; we truly appreciate how wonderful you are. The cleanliness of this bar is impressive. Watching sports here feels just like home, yet uniquely exciting--big screens, great food and drinks, and even better company. It's truly a priceless experience. Free and convenient parking.

Yelp
Stopped in for a playoff game this Sunday and had a great time! What a great find!! So here we go... ADD 1 STAR Parking on Sunday was great! Plenty of street parking even for a 1pm game start! Unlike places like Gaslamp, PB, Hillcrest I was pleasantly surprised! ADD 1 STAR Great outdoor seating area both covered and also out in the sun. Huge outdoor screen for the game too. Plenty of other tvs around the bar! ADD 1 STAR Plenty of water stations to help keep you hydrated! Even dog bowls for your 4 legged friends! ADD 1 STAR Staff were friendly and welcoming and always came around to clear our table. My only issue was the food. I was so disappointed in the smash burger. What's up with smashing the bun into a hard pancake both top and bottom bun? I've had better tasting smash burgers but I can get a better one at Jack in the Box and for $10 cheaper. It was so underwhelming I didn't even want to take a picture. The tator tots were awesome! Perfect crunch and spice....so flavorful! The women's bathroom is a little strange and quite frankly a waste. Two toilets set up side by side like how urinals are. This only works if 2 close friends are in there. They could easily make this 2 stalls and keep lines to a minimum. So 2 toilets but really just 1 women's bathroom.

Yelp
So grateful to Home & Away and their team for helping us make this Halloween Themed Going Away Party possible! Everyone had such a good time and couldn't stop speaking about the space of the venue and the convenience of being so close to our place of employment. People were able to stop by after work and enjoy the festivities. We chose home & away so guests could park in our employee lot and catch a ride to the bar as parking is tight. It's mainly just street parking. Home & Away allowed us to rent out the patio and decorate and even have a mariachi band play. They provided a taco bar for us that was delicious ! And the cost of this whole event, venue space & food was so reasonable. To the bar manager that helped us set up and help us get batteries last minute, thank you so much!

Yelp
Whether you want to watch your games indoors, outdoors (covered patio), or way outdoors as close to Home & Away's huge *ss tv as possible (in which case bring a hat!) this place offers a variety of seating options for your viewing pleasure. The Nachos (Fresh Chips, Chicken or Pork, Cotija Cheese, Peruvian Beans, House-made H&A Salsa Verde, Sour Cream, Onions and Cilantro) are nearly as ginormous as the aforementioned screen, and well worth ordering. Speaking of ordering, you'll need to do so (and pick up) inside at the bar, but it'd be nice if there were also a table service option, particularly if you're sitting outside!
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Came here for a going-away dinner for work. There's plenty of outdoor seating, which is always a plus in San Diego. Parking is pretty rough, but it's Old Town--pick your battles. The food was decent, a slight upgrade from your typical bar food, but nothing that really stands out or makes you want to come back just for the menu. The drink selection is great, though, and the service has always been solid. Lots of large TVs make it an easy spot to catch games and hang out with a group.
google avatar

Jenna B.

Yelp
Loveeee the outdoor space and number of TVs they have. If you're not a chiefs fan, opt for watching games elsewhere when they're playing. But bartenders are fast, friendly and good at their jobs. Food is ordered at the bar, comes out quick and the wings are top tier. Parking lot in front is a bit small but there's plenty of street parking available.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to come have a beer, bar food and enjoy your favorite game while enjoying San Diego's perfect weather! This place has a fantastic patio with tvs and a large screen. The atmosphere is alive with happy people together with a common goal: a good time

Yelp
While visiting family in the area, we all went to Home & Away for Taco Tuesday. This place is one of my brother in law's favorites. There's a nice outside seating area and pretty good bar food here. You order at the bar, find a seat and they bring your food. I had the Carne Asada tacos, my wife had a shrimp and a pork taco and my daughter had chicken tacos. These were reasonably priced at $3.50 for each taco. The place was jumping with lots of people there and the NBA playoffs on the TVs. Looks to be a good watering hole not too far from the airport. I will return here one day.
google avatar

Stacy F.

Yelp
The tacos are so good! Full of meat and flavor, very filling. The service is great and the bar is nice. Only high top seating but a nice bar. There's ton of seating outside too with a covered patio. We chose this place because it's open late, but it's a must if you're in old town San Diego.
google avatar

Cheryle L.

Yelp
One of my favorite sports bars to watch games at. There's plenty of street parking and they have a small parking lot in front. Love the indoor and outdoor areas. They also have heaters which is definitely clutch when it's during the cooler months. Food: my favorite are the wings and nachos. I usually get that, but I need to try the other stuff on the menu! This time around, I did order the carne asada tacos; tbh they were a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The service was very nice and the staff is always friendly! One thing they could add on their menu is guacamole. They have chips and salsa, but no guacamole. :( My most favorite part about this bar is that it is pet friendly! I'll definitely be back again and again.

Karen A.

Yelp
Good place to watch games if that's what you're into! They didn't have a ton of vegetarian/vegan options so buyer beware.

Yelp
It is a fun place to hangout with friends. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very nice. We ordered a hamburger and wings with our drinks and everything was good. We will come back. Ladies, be ready for a bathroom with 2 toilets and half of a wall which I didn't mind lol it was funny.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local bar just around the corner from the airport! Some of the best wings in town, along with fantastic indoor / outdoor venue. Get there for a Padres game - this place is electric!

Yelp
Late night dining can be hard to come by on a Wednesday in San Diego, and this place is an oasis.* At the suggestion of a friend (who is a restauranteur himself) we came for the Classic Cheeseburger. A life-sized, char broiled flavored, hand formed patty on a sticky toasted bun, with perfect golden fries and all the fixings you could want, made the $16 go down real easy. We also had a delicious hearty, healthy, hippy salad (The Rocket), which was a pleasant surprise for a sports and beer joint. LOVED Home and Away, and looking forward to going back for live music in the huge community courtyard. (Cinema-sized screen for you sports fans.) https://homeandawaysd.com/old-town/ 2222 San Diego Ave, San Diego, CA 92110 619.501.0522 Mon-Thurs 11:30am - 1:00am Fri 11:30am - 2am Sat 10:00am - 2aam Sunday 11:30am- 1am Open at 9:30 for Sunday NFL Games Open 364 days a year, closed on Christmas *KITCHEN OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT SEVEN NIGHTS A WEEK!

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't get to experience much of the inside but we did have their food! Apparently after 9PM they only serve 21 and over. We showed up at 9:03 with our kids in tow and we had walked there from our hotel after a long day of walking everywhere so we were starving and tired. Thankfully they let us order to go food and we ordered the adult grilled cheese, the carbs asada sandwich, and the smoked chicken tacos. The grilled cheese was delicious. It's a mix of cheeses and has sundried tomato spread and basil on it and it was on sourdough bread. Comes with a pickle spear and fries or tots. We got fries and they tasted like skinny steak fries. 4/5 The carne asada sandwich. Comes with peppers, garlic aioli, arugula, guyere cheese. Came with fries or tots. Got tots which were crispy and delicious. 5/5 Smoked chicken street tacos (3) came with cajote cheese, onions, cilantro, avocado verde salsa. They were so flavorful and full of lots of meat. More than enough to fill you up. Came with tortilla chips. 4/5 While we were waiting we got a Home & Away Mexican Lager. Good flavor and smooth enough for a casual beer drinker. 5/5 I would go back to try and try here during normal business hours so we could sit inside the restaurant but the food was good and they made it quickly.

Yelp
Wings were great! Tacos were hit or miss. The fish taco wasn't great, however, the steak was fantastic. I'll definitely stick to steak next time I come here.. it was great! Great drink selection and love the atmosphere of the games playing and the outdoor section with the big screen. Super fun. Perfect for game day
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Atmosphere is great. Fun place to watch a game or just hang out and drink a beer or two. Service is quick and had no issues.
google avatar

Diane K.

Yelp
We met here for an extracurricular meeting. Everyone was very welcoming as soon as you walk through the door. Very military friendly. Food was awesome. I went with the bar tender's recommendation of the fish tacos. Definitely did NOT disappoint. Very chill and laid back sports atmosphere.
google avatar

Joseph B.

Yelp
The 3 tacos special was very good. The service was prompt and pleasant. The atmosphere inside and out was welcoming and relaxed.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Yes, it's a bar, but you can bring your kids for lunch. The staff are very friendly and even with kids will make you feel welcomed. My son saw the restaurant on yelp and they showed a burger that caught his eye. So we came ate and left satisfied. I would definitely come back here again. From burgers, to wings, to fish tacos this place is the spot! Don't forget to get the Tatar totts
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
Hidden spot in Old Town. Everything is to the left when you make it into the city... But here you make a right. Absolute cool beer, sports bar, big Screen, TVs and amazing atmosphere to host a small or larger group. Food is OK however ambience is where it's at.
google avatar

Elijah S.

Yelp
I sooooo badly wanted to give this place 5 stars, the food is good, the vibe is awesome and the beer is amazing BUT the blue cheese dressing is AWFUL!!! It's a terrifying blend in heavy whipping cream and a hint of blue cheese flavoring. I've never seen anything like it. Wings just aren't wings without good blue cheese and this is NOT blue cheese. Enjoy the video.
google avatar

Nicole Erin B.

Yelp
We've been coming to Home and Away for football watch parties for the past few years. They have a great outdoor patio setup with a massive screen and heaters or umbrellas to accommodate any weather. The staff is incredibly friendly. Unfortunately the menu doesn't really accommodate gluten allergies with the only option being an underwhelming yet pricey salad. It's difficult to spend 3-5 hours there on a weekend without options for food, especially when drinking. The parking situation is also difficult on busy game days since the restaurant only has about 5 designated spaces and street parking throughout the surrounding blocks is tricky.
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
First time there, met up with my friends for a ladies get together and the Padres game. Chill vibe, good drinks, and good pub food.
google avatar

Rick D.

Yelp
Looked promising. Sports bar, big screen, large outdoor area. Tater tots extremely salty, fries too salty, Carne asada Sandwich meat extremely salty. Classic Burger had offputting freezer or refrigerator taste in the meat. I'm assuming over salting is to try to make you drink more? Great beer selection. Order from the bar take a seat and a number and your food is delivered to you. Service is average. It looks like a great place for drinks, but that's about it.
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
Super fun atmosphere. Great for sports fans. If you get the munchies the grilled cheese was out of this world. Women's restroom were a little strange but served the purpose.
google avatar

Curt T.

Yelp
The old town Paloma was delicious and had a good amount of alcohol in it. Service was fast and friendly. It would be a good place to go watch a game. Lots of space with a big tv.

James P.

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch today. Fairly slow at noon. I had. The Carne Asada sandwich with tater tots. Man, that was good. Bar service was fast and easy. Only about 15-20 things on menu but I will definitely try Some other items when I go back. Really good beer selection
google avatar

Mara M.

Yelp
Solid food, good service and plenty of space to watch the games (inside and out). Critiques would be putting umbrellas outside for game days where it is hot and crowded and making water and water cups more readily available. Water jug was empty every time I checked and cups nowhere to be found. Also the line for the women's bathroom gets really long because it is one locked door but once you get inside there are two stalls but there is no divider in between them (see photos). Honestly REALLY weird - who is this bathroom for? They should make the two toilets in the women's bathroom be two separate stalls that lock and remove the lock on the actual bathroom door. Simple fix that would make a world of difference. Overall, great bar. Just needs to make some easy updates to account for its popularity and create a better experience for patrons.
google avatar

Karmen P.

Yelp
I am shook at how great this little place was. Drove past so many times . The inside is so nice. Big bar. Great bartender. Great space with a large outdoor patio. I ordered some chicken tacos . Side of tater tots because why not (Shrug)? . The chicken tacos were amazing and had a really nice smoked flavor, tied with the pickled onions cotija cheese,.... Perfection. T bar-b-q sauce for those tots.... was lip smacking good. I was not expecting the food to be that good but it was. I'll be back tomorrow. lol. .
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Four times to be exact. Three times at night when they are closing up shop. Came each time on Thursday-Friday-Saturday night. Usually within the last two hours of them closing down. it's usually quiet and super chill. Twenty people at the most with two bartenders and one barback working. The fourth time I came here was during a Chiefs playoff game and it was packed. To the point where you couldn't find seating if you arrived within one hour of the game. I've had a handful of their food here. Spicy Thai Chicken Wings, Wedge Salad, and Shrimp Nachos. The Shrimp Nachos were my fav of the three. It was a nice blend of sauce, cheese and toppings on it. It also helps that there was a really good amount of shrimp on it. Their beer selection has a lot of craft beers on it and ones I'm not too familiar with. There's a lot of IPA's and light beers on it which aren't my fav. I prefer dark beers and they only have one or two. I did have a nice sour here and a lovely cider. There's two bathrooms inside which by the end of the night is pretty nasty. But there are a few outside which I don't think people really notice since it's tucked away in the back corner and those are much more better. The sink to wash hands are outside of the bathrooms so you have to look for it and you get to call out people who leave and don't wash their hands. For when it's packed there are many spots to sit inside and outside. Maybe I didn't notice or maybe it's special because for the game but I feel like they have additional seating that they roll out and repack away after game days. There's a bar inside and outside for game days. Forget about parking in their lot. They have maybe 8 spots. And because it's in Old Town parking is always going to be tight. I usually have to park and walk 5-10 minutes. Four stars because this spot can be both a place to get lit and be in good company when the game is on or for you to just kinda have a drink and be out but not be overcrowded during the late night hours. Whenever I find myself in Old Town I always find myself at Home & Away
google avatar

Clythie C.

Yelp
Home & Away has great bar food, a fun atmosphere for sports fans, and great service. I love sitting outside after a bike ride on the patio. The whole place feels more like a party than a bar/restaurant. Friendly vibes all around. And they have a parking lot too.
google avatar

Richard V.

Yelp
Wish I found this place sooner. THE BEST chiefs bar and overall sports bar in San Diego. Great chicken tenders and decent prices for drinks. Love this place.
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
Local gem to grab some tacos and brews while enjoying some sun. Home and Away has all the elements, great food, fast service, cold beer, and excellent outdoor space to accommodate large crowds. Only con is finding street parking so you can enjoy.

Jan H.

Yelp
The bartender Sierra, she is special! My pup was welcome too we had the H&A wings and ceviche, spicy and yummy!

Mat M.

Yelp
This is a must stop by after a tour or walk throughout old town san Diego, the service, food and environment are great here at home & away this place has some of the best tacos and cocktails to wash your food down with. The service provided by kat & dan Was the best very welcoming and friendly.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Still, after all of these years, I'm loving Home & Away and really need to make a point of coming as a destination, not just when I'm in the Old Town area. The patio is awesome and it's a damn shame I didn't have a chance to catch a football game there this season as the TV setup is epic - it's also a Chiefs bar, I believe. I wish I could speak to the food lately but I can't, it's been ages and on my last visit I was stuffed from a brunch down the street, but if you know me, drinks are always on the menu. That being said, my drink (vodka/soda) was poured with card, served with a smile, and the price didn't break the bank. So what are you waiting for? Don't let the cold weather scare you as the patio has some great heaters waiting to keep you nice and warm!
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Navy Buddy hangout completed! Tacos were fab, but make sure you specify the right amount of onions... I think I ate 10 tacos...fish, beef, etc. all were good! Good local brew selection. Service is at the bar.
google avatar

Branson U.

Yelp
Such a great find and I was extremely surprised with the amount of space Home & Away has for their guests to sit and hang with their watch parties. This is one of the best bars to come and watch any big game. They have tons of Tv's to be able to view at any angle. The Big screen outdoors is perfect for outside viewing and they also have two TV's for if the umbrellas block any view of the big screen. What also makes Home & Away a great spot to catch a game is that the food here is very very good! On Top of food being pretty tasty the drinks are just as good. There is an ample beer selection on Draft to choose from as well as a large selection of craft cocktails for those people wanting something fresh on a hot sunny day. Cant wait to return for some more Padre games.
google avatar

Morgan W.

Yelp
Great after work spot, especially if you're a sports fan and want to watch a game. Great variety of beers and cocktails. I usually get the coco poncho cocktail which is coconut, lime, and tequila. It's wonderful on a hot day. Their burgers are fantastic. The 22 is my favorite and I will usually get it lettuce wrapped but obviously it's great on a bun. Chicken wings are fire and come in three different flavors. They really know how to make "bar" food. Highly recommend.

Barbara B.

Yelp
Everything. Love this place. So fun. We go often!!! Kids love all the games. Food is great. Highly recommend Home & Away!!

Karin P.

Yelp
Chose this place for a casual dinner due to dog friendly patio and could not have left more disappointed. In my adult life I've sent back food only one time prior and here I had to do it TWICE. Ordered the nachos no meat since I'm a vegetarian and for $15 all that I got was a plate of chips with some cotija cheese and the tiniest bit of beans I've ever seen. I brought it back as this did not match the description on the menu and asked if they could kindly add more beans and cheddar cheese as the menu described. Please look in the pic how they returned them to me, you can't make this up. Partner ordered the fish tacos which came out cold. Disappointed bc we wanted to love this place due to the vibe. Yuck!
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Old Town. They have a great outdoor space with a huge tv that would be great for watching a sports game. It's also dog friendly. The drinks were very reasonable priced. We will have to come back to try the food.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday morning to watch football. We are from out of town and wanted to watch our team, the NY Giants. Started early, for us with chips and salsa. Nice bite to the salsa. Moved on to beer, very reasonable, and their smash burger and fries. Excellent! The ambiance is sports and dogs (outside and on the patio). What a fun start to our week in San Diego. I would recommend for sports fans. There is also a coffee "cart" out front with good coffee.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Found Home + Away through my work and SO glad I did! This is our new favorite spot to watch Chiefs games, as the bar is spacious and there are large tvs to view from everywhere. The tots are elite and I enjoyed my wings as well! I enjoyed the pink mojito, which I highly recommend, and expect to be here most game days!
google avatar

Alfredo C.

Yelp
This is a place we enjoy coming back time and time again. It's a chill vibe, good food and I like the outside patio. It does get very crowded at times and the lines to order get long, when ever they have games, however we enjoy it here and the people add to the hype of the game. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
Food is mediocre. No table service during a UFC fight. Mostly outdoor seating. They had a big movie style screen outdoors for the fight screening.

Ake A.

Yelp
Tots where hard fried rocks, but Shiner on tap makes up for it. Great place to watch a game.
