A beautiful cornerstone of the Los Angeles community. Amazing staff like Pam, Mario, Manuela and a place where you can truly be the change you want to be! Not to mention, great food and tea!!! Thank you, Father Greg Boyle 🙏🏾🐐

Google
Employees were very friendly and willing to help, pleasant to speak to and very approachable, helpful in every way possible. Their baked goods were fresh, and cakes were just the right size for maybe 4 people, coffee, juices, and soft drinks. Very clean, and the background music was easy to listen to. I ordered a BLT no fries a Coke dined in. Coffee cake to go, pozole for later, oh! Chips and salsa free while dining in. No regrets. All was 😋

Every single person with whom we had an encounter was so amazing! Beautiful service! Delicious food! Full belly! Everything you desire when you go out to eat at a resteraunt. Can't wait for the next time to visit..

Although the food was very good, I was given a higher price than posted on the menu. My burrito was 9.00, I had a coffe too, but i got charged 25.00 and cents. I did Not order a coffee cake, but one was brought to me. I am not sure how a burrito and coffee came to be more than 25.00...I will not go there again if that is the case. My partner was charged the same thing, even though his chilaquiles were 12.00...

Great peopel whom I trust with my $10,000 pledge to donate to MAHA for prison inmates and peops in mental health asylums for the insane women who are trying to detox from extrem drug dependency and suicidal ideation. In the name of the late Robert Graham foundation who gave me such inspiration to help those who are struggling to stay sane and get sober. Thank you for support.

I called up Stephanie Lane from Homeboy Industries to see about housing and she said she can't help me if I don't have a CDCR number and I was kind of shocked. I asked her a few more questions and she seemed bothered by my questions. In between me asking her questions she said I was acting aggressively, I don't know how but while we were on the phone I asked my daughter "do I sound aggressive or am I acting aggressively" and my daughter said no mom. I then said Stephanie, you see I'm not acting aggressively and Stephanie said "you know what" and then hung up. I know at Homeboy Industries they favor who they want to help, many people have stated that as well. The fact that they are getting money and Stephanie acted unprofessional with me is sad. I hope she reads this too. I'm sure she'll laugh since she's the one who had the attitude.

Google
Literally, I wish homeboy industries would be less homeboy and more industry because every time you call there, they have zero customer service. Nobody answers the phone. They barely return the phone calls even when you go up there and the people that are working for homeboy industries they’re too lax. They’re too chill. They think it’s the kick spot and that really sucks. I truly believe homeboy industries needs to have a professionalism course that they need to teach everybody how to speak how to act Because I’m gonna tell you one thing I come from the streets, but you better believe I Know how to conduct myself in any room with anyone with any status for me I would just like to see people like me up to par An thats it

KINSHIP! Father Greg is such a blessing for making this place a transformation place for us to heal and hope

Yelp
Love the mission, and the people that my wife and I talked to were terrific, including the man working in the retail store (forgot his name, unfortunately); he needs a raise ;) . Having worked previously at a nonprofit social services organization in SF on the marketing/communications team, Homeboy Industries does it right, and so much so that if we lived in SoCal, I would pursue a career there, which says a lot.

Yelp
Right when you set foot on their property, you are transported to a land where complete strangers will offer to help carry your heavy bag or to help you find your way. The way everyone helps and works together is quite amazing. There is parking in their lot and on the street. With the help of one of the Homeboy associate, they even helped me parallel park on the street. When entering Homeboy, it is bustling with excitement. There was beautiful artwork and you can also see them making bakery goods. If you can, volunteer and support this organization. The people who go to Homeboy, truly want to have a better life and will do the work to get there!

Yelp
Every year I have ordered from their website their famous coffee cake as gifts or to bring to parties and it's always a hit. Recently I tried their ground coffee and it's also delicious and a favorite now. I ordered from their clothing line and my husband loves the bomber jacket: great quality and style. They do excellent work, why not order from them? Check out their website as there are other goods to choose from! Keep up the good work!

Yelp
Love this place. Came to visit a few years back after hearing about how great it was at my school, I was interested in getting some tattoos removed and was told they do tattoo removals. I showed up one day and visited their cafe and man was it delicious! I had a sandwich and it came with a salad, both were bomb! I proceeded to start my tattoo removal sessions and it went by pretty quick, I came a few more times but life started lifing. I wonder if I ever come back will I be able to continue the sessions. Either way, a good spot to visit.

Yelp
Told me 4 pastries for 10 dollars at street fair but took a different amount out of my account

Yelp
The staff was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about their products. The location was very clean and easy to park. It was also close to the Metro.

Yelp
The reason for my 1 star rating is because I called up Stephanie Lane at Homeboy Industries and she said she can't help me with housing because I don't have a CDCR number, which I understand. but her attitude towards me, I already knew where this was going. I started asking her questions and she just seemed bothered by it, so much that she said I was becoming aggressive ,my daughter heard my conversation and I asked my daughter while Stephanie was on the phone, "am I being aggressive?" and my daughter said no. Stephanie Lane, I hope you read this, be respectful and kind when someone asks you for help, weather you can help or not, you'r attitude needs to change. also I called Stephanie back up and same attitude. Jesus, how and why do they hire these people with an attitude???????????????

Vincent T.

Yelp
I unfortunately have been attempting to reach the tattoo removal line for weeks. I have not been able to get through no matter what time of day I call. I call at 8:30am, 8:45 am, all throughout the day. It's really sad because I may not be the only one who is reaching out and no one answers. That can be really devastating to most seeking help. I know this organization hires a lot of probationers and parolees who may be using their job there as a facade to cover up ill intentions. And unfortunately it may be those exact people who are negligent about answering the lines. Hopefully someone looks at this review and reads what I'm saying and follows up on this issue. They're missing too many opportunities to help those seeking help

Jesse K.

Yelp
I sent them an email February 28 for tattoo removal & I been calling multiple times trying to get in hold of someone and No one answers, it just goes to voicemail and it hangs up because their voicemail is full. Then I called the main reception for help. This person said he would have someone call me back. No one has called me. I have a buddy that knows a female friend who went to homeboy industries to remove a tattoo of her ex boyfriend name.... It's messed up they helped this girl over a that tattoo and I have a lot of tattoos around my neck, head & face I need to remove. I believe homeboy industries don't care about helping people who really needs it. Don't waste your time with this place.

Lawrence V.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Monrovia last night and stopped by to pick up some pastries at their location in the farmers market. We indulged this morning and I don't know if I have ever had a better carrot cake. Moist tender flavorful. It was perfect! My wife absolutely loved their coffee cake and it was a great way to start the morning. We are looking forward to having a sandwich later on in the day with their sourdough bread. If you're anywhere near this place, (either in Monrovia or their flagship in Los Angeles) try them out as they are exceptional. Five bear paw recommendation my absolute guarantee that you will enjoy!

Yelp
Visiting Homeboy Industries was a highlight of my trip while I was on vacation in LA!!! We started with morning meeting, which was so inspiring. Then on to a long and informational tour led by one of the homeboys. He shared his own story and many others and showed us all around and explained how the program works. Homeboy was created by Fr Greg Boyle who is a modern day hero. Check him out on YouTube or read his books! Then we headed over to Home Girl Cafe for a delicious breakfast and got a bunch of delicious baked goods to take home. Then on to the silkscreen store to get my current favorite comfy Homeboy Industries hoodie, long sleeve T-shirt and Fr Greg's latest book. Service was great. It feels good to spend money here because you know it's going to good use to help former gang members make a better life for themselves and their families. Love this place! Love the ministry! Oh and you can also order gift baskets from them too!

Pretty Girl V.

Yelp
I'm definitely grateful for this organization. They are helping me remove a tattoo that I would not be able to afford at the moment in other places that charge $200 or more per visit. So far I've had about 10 sessions. I am always treated with respect and I was even able to get some books for free I thank you so much for helping me and I hope you continue to thrive.

Lela C.

Yelp
I've been trying to volunteer with Homeboy Industries for over a year!!! Nobody calls or emails back. They treat you like you are completely expendable and are ungrateful for community support. So sad. I'm a former classroom teacher and have been trying to connect with them to help members who want to get their GED.

Norman I.

Yelp
As I said before I had afire at my house the insurance company used homeboy industries. The work was done but they stole a bunch of stuff small petty stuff it my wife's Chanel perfumes were pretty expensive. As I said before they definitely bear watching!!!

A H.

Yelp
This organization never answers their phone I've been trying to call for a few weeks now and also I emailed one of the employees and she was extremely rude so now I have to drive all the way down there for my issue that I'm having this is so sad and these are people from the community that should be a little more humble

Yelp
Popular place to show support to the community. HBI drives to provide services to at risk population & does a great job at it! Come by!

Yelp
Excelent service totally recommend this restaurant friendly environment I have gone back 3 times

Yelp
Their cookies are delicious! I've ordered these in advance twice now and I am not disappointed. Bonus points for helping a community that is trying to better itself. Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a better life and not repeat previous mistakes, which is why I love supporting them. My most recent experience, I ordered some tacos to go and while they were a good combination of flavors, they were too small and pricey for my taste. I'll still go back for the cookies, the mission, and some other baked goods.
google avatar

Yelp
Promised the world , fast forward a few years later I go in and they have nothing to offer they said I could go check them out in a few months . I tried getting tattoo removed and again I would have to wait months on a list . Pretty discouraging has high hopes never again also pvjobs had nothing

Yelp
Homeboy is transforming lives of people with systemic barriers to enter into the workforce. The own and operate and staff the social enterprises with trainees who are participating in their 18 month program to repair, heal and implement radical life style improvements. The founder, Father Greg Boyle is a radical dude who sees hope and live in everyone. #secondchances

Yelp
I work in the nonprofit world and this org is by far one of the most impactful, consistent, and all around wonderful that I've come across. Plus they make the most scrumptious food!

Yelp
I was in the area for a weekend trip, and - having read the book Tattoos on the Heart by Father Greg Boyle - wanted to see the place for myself. I arrived right after the cafe had closed for the day, but their door was open so i walked in. The staff welcomed me but said they were closed, then promptly offered me free pastries and a smoothie! They were so gracious and kind, apologizing profusely for being closed. It was ok tho - there honestly is not too much to see in the cafe, but i got the gist. I hope more organizations like this can form in the inner cities to give gang members a place to do good work. God bless you, Father Boyle.

Yelp
I collaborated with Roxanne on a corporate cookie order and she was great to work with! My order was ready and waiting for pick-up on time, and the packaging was exactly as I had requested. In observing the café during lunch hour, I noticed that every employee seemed to take great pride in their work, and in Homeboy overall as an organization. It was really very heartwarming to see. What a phenomenal success story!

Yelp
*This review is for the LAX location* I had quite possibly the worst bagel and cream cheese I've ever had in my life. Correction... It was the worst bagel & cream cheese I've TRIED to eat in my entire life. I asked for it toasted, but whatever they did to it, it turned it into an expensive $6 ROCK. Seriously, by the time I sat in my seat on the plane, I had two halves of a bagel that were so hard, I would probably have broken a tooth trying to eat that overcooked, over-microwaved, hard as a rock, piece of dough, they passed off as a "bagel." A $6 paper weight I stuffed away in the seat pocket. My jaws hurt just thinking about it. Terrible!

Yelp
Called to get help for a domestic violence situation for a woman and her kids and hbi's telephone system does not let a person looking for help to get help. She is on the far side of alhambra so i am still looking.

Yelp
I love what they accomplished and what it stands for. I had a friend that used to come here and told me about this place. I tried to get a tour around but unfortunately they weren't doing any tours at the time.

Yelp
"Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he feeds himself every day. Nothing puts a dent in crime as much as a man holding down a responsible job." It seems that Father Boyle, Jesuit priest & founder of Homeboy Industries, feels that it is important to rehabilitate people who, for whatever reason, have found it difficult to become a productive member in our community. Whether they may have previous drug addictions, run ins with the law, made bad life decisions, if they are ready & willing to receive help, coming to Homeboys is a good place to get aid & understanding since many of the workers & volunteers also have had similar experiences. We were fortunate to be able to take a tour of the facilities and came out very impressed that there is help for those in need, but in a positive way to get them ready & proud enough to lead productive independent lives. Of course, this process is not achieved in a short time, but the tough love nurturing style of Homeboys is a lot better than just throwing released inmates, psychiatric patients, drug dependent people out onto the streets where there are little places to go to get the repairative help that is so needed. All this does is for them to go back to their old ways with their lives spiraling ever downward. Ms. K. was our tour guide, and she came from the school of hard knocks where she was a drug runner for gangs. There was always the fear of being caught by law enforcement or being ambushed by rival gangs. It was an unstable life especially for a single mother who felt she couldn't supply a safe, stable life for her children. Finally realizing she was jeopardizing herself & her children, Ms. K went to Homeboy for help in getting out of crime & into reconstructing her life along productive lines. I applaud her goal. Homeboy has facilities to laser off gang tattoos, provide health care such as the mobile health care from Saint John's under their Well Child & Family Center. job placement, counseling, GED preparation, Pathway to College, AA, Parenting, Health Topics, Morning Meditation to find balance & peace, Writing Workshops, Substance Abuse, Tutoring, Relapse Prevention, Theatre Improvisation, Anger Management, Healing Circle, Yoga, Leadership: Character Building, Al-Anon, Career Skills & Development (UCLA ext.), Financial Literacy, Homeboy 12 Step Study, Men's Group, Dancing Heals, Criminals & Gang Members Anonymous, etc. Los Angeles County is proposing to use companies that hire former inmates, and Homeboy would be in a good position to profit from this move. Good fortune Homeboys since they provide an invaluable service to our community by helping people to help themselves toward a better life. 5+++++ Yelp stars We can help by buying great baked goods, going to the Food truck, Farmers' Markets (look on Homeboy Industries' website), Diner at City Hall, Homegirl Café & Gift Shop, Catering, Ordering cool custom designed T-shirts & Shirts from Homeboy Silk Screen & Embroidery Services at: *Homeboy Industries *130 W. Yelp
Nothing stops a bullet like a job. Homeboy Industries fills the gap between prison and employment. Focusing on helping gang members get themselves together, and believing that everyone is capable of contributing to society, Homeboy provides the hands-on training, jobs, and support that our education and prison system sadly lacks. You can find out more about their work here http://www.homeboyindustries.org/. Just completed my second Homeboy 5K and am also proud to support this industry by having coffee at Homegirl Cafe and buying Homeboy merchandise such as jams, T-shirts, coffee mugs and sweatshirts whenever I can. Jobs, not jails. Oh, and their chips and mango salsa totally rock.
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
Yesterday a friend and I went to Homeboy Industries in LA for lunch at the Homegirl Cafe. Homeboy was started by Father Gregory Boyle in 1988 to help former gang members and previously incarcerated persons. They help redirect their lives and become contributing members of their families and communities. They offer job skills training, education, tattoo removal and legal and mental health services. They operate the cafe, cooking, service, and busing. The food is fantastic. Check out the menu on their website. They also have a bakery and merchandise store. It was so awesome too see them working in such a wonderful and caring environment. It's located just north of Union Station.
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
I'd wanted to come here ever since I read Tattoo on the Heart. My sister, nieces and I stopped her for lunch and we were not disappointed. We were promptly seated and given menus. The service was above expectation and the food was soooooo good!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I have nothing but positive things to say about every single Homeboy Industries social enterprise and the organization as a whole. All products are an A+ and the mission is unlike any other. The bakery and cafe always have fresh and delicious food. The house coffee is infused with orange and so strong for all my fellow caffeine feens. Brunch is my favorite mean to have here, my recommendations: the green chilaquiles, the bacon omelette, potatoes, Hector's special. All amazing. For lunch: you can't go wrong with any of the tacos or the Consuelo's sandwich, and the kale grilled cheese. I've had basically every item on the menu after working here for 2 years, so you can trust me!!! Tours happen at 9 am, 11 am, and 2 pm. Afterwards, stop by the merchandise store for some Homeboy swag. All services are free to the community and include: community case management, mental health services, employment services, tattoo removal. If you live in the LA area or are visiting, do yourself a favor and swing by here!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Menu is kind of limited. I had tacos and my friend ordered the chilaquiles. It was good, especially the chilaquiles: super crispy chips, fluffy eggs and fresh queso. My carne Asada tacos were alright but it needed something. Didn't come with any sides or even salsa on the side. The meat was tender but on the borderline of being bland. Service was slow. I know that's their whole shtick giving convicts a chance to get work experience. To be fair, they were super friendly but you can tell there was some on the job training. Didn't fully know the menu and took forever to get the check. Overall meal was ok but nothing blew me away. I wish there were options with more meat.
google avatar

Juliet N.

Yelp
Went here because the place I intern has monthly training and that month we were getting a tour of Homeboy. This place is amazing. I work down the street for almost 10 years and I didn't know everything this place offers. The services for those in need, the passion to help people out that are trying to change, the entire building is a great opportunity! it was nice to hear first hand from the people that have benefited from the place and they were so nice and patient with our group. I did order food there and a drink and the employees were super nice and helpful. They made conversation and recommended certain foods and drinks. I know I got a latte, and some delicious loaf, and I think I got the salmon or some kind of fish taco--yummm! It is a clean, nice place for not only those who have had trouble with the law before but for the public to go and enjoy and I will definitely go back there, for the delicious food!!

Yelp
Do you need a fresh dose of inspiration or encouragement? Them come to Homeboys for a tour, bring some friends, bring some students, bring some haters who have an over-generalization about a sub-culture of societyy called gangs. Father G and his team have created an organization that is by far one of the greatest in the world, and I can back that up. Just check it out! And now! About Homegirl Cafe... Don't let discouraging reviews about limited menus or eh service. Quality over quantity and the training program for formerly incarcerated or former gang members are worth the limit. It's not what you see, this place is all about what you don't see, the long-term affects of this place and what it does for society at large is something that cant be replicated. Eating here is philanthropy.

Yelp
I used Homeboy Electric to dispose some old lamps from our warehouse. The staffs were so friendly (Lori and Ana I believe) and helpful the whole time. I would definitely use their service again.

Yelp
This is SUCH an excellent cause! I read up on their organization after stopping by their bakery downtown LA and fell in love with this cause and what they stand for. Father Greg Boyle started Honeboy Industries in the 80's and has helped so many gang members get off the streets and find real jobs and learn how to live regular lives again. Working at their bakery, farmers markets, events and fundraisers, a great cause to support, made me happy to see how successful they are.

Yelp
I took a tour of Homeboy Industries last week, and was pretty blown away by the mission and ethos of this organization. If you need any of its services, knock on its doors. If you have some money lying around, for it over. Homeboy provides paths to employment for gang members and convicted felons, a segment of the population that is too often left to fend for itself after it's coughed up out of the prison system. Ex-cons don't have the best employment options, and without jobs, recidivism is often the most salient available life choice. Homeboy offers job training as well as community services like Narcotics/Alcoholics/Gangmembers Anonymous. It's an entire organization dedicated to helping people make productive decisions by giving them the resources they need. There's an 18-month wage-paying program that includes in-depth training, therapy, and classes. This program is selective and requires a pretty dedicated commitment to wholesome living, but most of Homeboy's services are available to anyone who asks. My tour guide Ricardo was four months into his stint in the program. Mine was his first tour, and he did an excellent job taking me through the Homeboy headquarters. He told me his story and said, tearing up, that meeting Father Greg and joining Homeboy was the best thing that had ever happened to him. I believed him. Thanks to Cheryl K. for setting me up on this tour, and to Ricardo for being a great guide. Everyone at Homeboy really deserves some serious applause. It's a great organization that fills a wide gap in our society's needs. If you're at all interested, the tours are open to public. Make a visit, eat at the cafe, donate some money if you can.

Yelp
I took a broken printer, keyboard, and speakers to the Homeboy Industries electronic recycling site and Ricky and Jerry made it a super smooth easy handoff. Such a great place!

Yelp
Ths week I attended a Benefit Fundraiser at the Ford Amphitheater for Homeboy Industries. It included an enlightening preview of a documentary called G-Dog, a film chronicling father Greg Boyles life work with at-risk and disadvantaged youths, a film about gang members seeking peace, acceptance and a way to function in society. Attending USC and living in Southern Calfornia for 20+ years, the presence of gangs is always around. However, I am not going to lie, it is only a problem if you are there, present, and dealing with it. The rest of us, myself included, have away of compartmentalizing it and filing this fact away somewhere under "bad" and "never happening to me". I hope everyone gets to see this movie, see it from their eyes. Johnny Vatos' Oingo Boingo Party Band brought back a lot of fond memories of my younger years. It made for a very nice evening under the stars. I wish this event could have been a little more successful. As just a consumer and not a person that had anything to gain or lose for this event, I wish they had tried to sell me more. I wish the had made deal with the Ford to have more of their Homegirl Cafe food there. I wish they had a bigger selection of bakery goods. The chocolate chip cookies were exquisite and assorted dessert dish was delectable. They definitely could have charged more. Lastly, I wish they had advertised this as a bigger event, and attracted...or invited...a few big names with more giving checkbooks. I've been converted into a supporter, and im an average middle class working woman. They would be too.

Yelp
So thankful for places like this ! Who do so much to give people a second chance! We are grateful for everyone making a effort to help change someone's life! Such a awesome place very friendly only place where you see people of different colors different gangs or ex gang members talk with one another genuinely! We appreciate you all!

Yelp
They make some really good coffee. Have yet to try the food. I'm definitely on board with helping people improve their lives and integrating back into the population.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for coffee. I got the Iced Mocha. It was really good and it on the same caliber as Starbucks or Coffee Bean. What Father Boyle started is amazing. This is an amazing Non-Profit that helps people go on a positive path with their lives. The baked goods and the sandwiches look good too. This non-profit concept should go nationwide.

Yelp
This is one of the greatest projects ever! Fr. G is a kind and caring soul. Fr. G for President. Great community resource center for peace and those seeking an opportunity to get a better life.
