Hometipple - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Everything about Hometipple, a Walthamstow Village wine bar, facilitates a good catch-up. The wine list is long—and so is the list of grievances we’ve decided we must air after two glasses of low-intervention Xarel-lo. There are changing chef residencies which usually involve hunks of focaccia and sharer-sized portions to pick at while you pick over your friend’s love life. And softly spoken servers know just the right time to interrupt with a suggestion of dessert. Tables aren’t rushed, the crowd is locals drawn by the promise of unwinding, and it all feels very end-of-week, even on a Wednesday. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna

Good service and also service that lets you get on with the meal and this creates a nice flow to the occasion. And good choice of music as well. Food was lovely, all ingredients seemed very fresh and a lot of thought was put into the flavours and textures. The Malfatti was amazing, rich, tasty sauce with fresh peas that complimented it well. Marinated trout, tomatoes with goats cheese and the cuttle fish were also outstanding. The cuttle fish broth was incredible!

A lovely bar and restaurant in Walthamstow, with a regularly changing series of kitchen residencies from great chefs. The place is like a tardis - from the outside it looks like a wine shop (which it is), but once you get beyond the counter it opens out into a beautiful restaurant, with lots of natural light. The current menu - by chef Marie Mitchell - is excellent. The fish dishes are particularly good!

Came here for a sunday roast, and everything was amazing. The heirloom tomato starter was so tasty, and we loved the cheese plate too. And you must order the warm bread with butter! We had a beef roast and the pork belly with a side of cauliflower cheese to share and both were incredible. The best roasts we've ever had. The basque cheesecake was the perfect dessert too. Billy is an amazing chef, will be looking out for his next residency. We'll be back!

Took a friend to enjoy Marie Mitchell’s residency on a Tuesday evening and it was excellent. Lovely food and attentive FoH.

Great value set menu (Friday/Saturday). Food was delicious & the service outstanding - friendly, prompt & took time to answer questions about the food. Excellent selection of wine & drinks. The whole restaurant was comfortable & clean.

Lovely varied menu offering good choice, from only a few picks, showing the ingredients are high quality, with imaginative menu-making. Service was great, wine options plenty and the wine pairing a great guide. Ambience was warm, we were amazed it wasn’t busier on a Saturday lunchtime because it’s all so good and it should be packed!

Very good service, friendly staff and an interesting and fairly priced selection of wines. The food was well seasoned, but generally overpriced. The ‘large’ plates felt small. The £20 chicken dish was just one small and scrawny chicken leg, with a few pretty average potatoes. Fried hake was tasty, but again on the small side, and was £25 without any sides. Wine could be served colder too. We left still hungry and with our clothes smelling of fried food because of the poor ventilation at the back of the restaurant.

Used to be a wine shop, but now they have added seating and a kitchen for a restaurant as well. The restaurant and wine shop areas overlap, so there's a chance you'll be eating while people browse the wine next to you. Food is really great tasting. Based on the menu, it seems like they might be trying to get a different "chef residency" every once in a while. Service is ok. The staff is trying at least. The menu has specific wine recommendations for each course, but they don't make an effort to bring the wine and the food at the same time. While I was there, the back door to patio area was left open a few times. This was on a cold, December night and made it uncomfortable until we asked for the door to be closed.
