Friday night savior. This restaurant was able to accommodate a party of 9. We originally were stunned by the Ambiance and beautiful chandeliers. Large tables with lazy susans available. Easy parking right out front. Hot tea available for all tables. Peking duck! Get the Peking duck! It comes with bao buns that are phenomenal. Duck sauce was savory and and excellent addition. Friendly service.

Ordered Pecking Duck 3 ways, the duck is crispy and delicious, however hair is not plugged/ cleaned properly. Love the buns compared with traditional wraps. Soup is made of the duck neck and few bean sprouts. The stir-fry has no meat, few skin pieces here and there. Understand $70 for pecking duck 3 way is not the most expensive, but definitely felt a bit cheated. Overall, the duck itself is delicious - on the smaller side. The soup and stir-fry is not worth mentioning.

My girlfriend and I stopped by Hon Kee after shopping at our favorite grocery store, Tai Nam. Since she had been here before, she highly recommended we stop by for lunch and it did not disappoint! For my first visit, I ordered the BBQ Duck & Chicken with Rice & Broccoli, while she got the BBQ Pork & Duck. Words can’t describe how incredible the meal was! The duck was perfectly tender, packed with rich flavor, and had just the right amount of saltiness to complement the savory sauce. Every bite was absolutely delicious. To top it off, the fresh smoothie I tried was so refreshing and smooth—the perfect way to complete the meal. Hon Kee is a must-try for anyone craving authentic, flavorful BBQ in Chicago’s Vietnamese Town. We’ll definitely be back!

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Hon Kee. I went there for a late lunch on January 22 and decided to order a whole roasted duck to go afterward. Unfortunately, what I received felt very misleading. The man at the counter chopped the duck into two boxes of small pieces. When I got home and opened them, I was shocked to find that there wasn’t a single piece of duck breast meat. It honestly looked like I was only given about two-thirds of a duck. For something sold as a whole roasted duck, this was very upsetting. I’ve eaten roasted duck many times and know what it should look like. This experience left me feeling disappointed and taken advantage of. I expected much better.

Hon Kee offers comforting Cantonese flavors that bring a sense of home. Their BBQ options are affordably priced and very well made — we've especially enjoyed the BBQ roasted duck and pork. Their home-cooked-style dishes like Pork Stomach Chicken Casserole 猪肚鸡煲, Egg Tofu, and Pancit Canton 干烧伊面 are also delicious. Their seafood dishes, like the lobster and sea cucumber, were decent but we feel we have had better quality from other restaurants. The service at Hon Kee is consistently warm and friendly. Overall, with an extensive menu and generous portions, this is a great choice for anyone craving authentic Cantonese flavors.

Food was decent. I liked the won ton soup and the salted chicken. Roasted duck was lacking in flavor and the sauce was quite greasy. BBQ pork tasted great but was extremely greasy. I didn't care much for the tendon. One thing that's great here is that you can order buns and pickles on the side if you want duck buns but don't want an entire duck.

Visited Chicago and was introduced to the owners and owners son through my mentor. We were able to try their peking duck, chow fun, and bbq braided pork and wonton soup. My personal favorite was the wonton soup but everything tasted amazing. The owners were extremely kind and hospitable and we were able to drink a sip of wine with the owner and some of the locals. I could tell it's a community based restaurant and all the locals were coming here to eat some good Chinese food. I really had an amazing time. Shout-out to Mike and his family!

Absolutely delicious! They serve Peking duck (comes with a soup, vegetables or fried rice for extra). All of the food reminds me of home. There's a ton of seating too which is a plus. The duck is pretty comparable to Sun Wah close by, and there's a ton of other options on the menu for tasty Chinese dishes. Service is meh, but the food makes up for it.

Returned to try some new items. We had our usual salt pepper fish fillet which was again outstanding. I had the chicken feet. The portions size was huge, six large pieces. But the sauce was just okay. Not like the black bean sauce in other places. So not going to do that again. Also had the salt pepper pork chop. A good sized order but they were cut a little thicker than I like and a little too much soy sauce in the marinade. Also not doing that again. The roast pork is still also fabulous.

I love their Bbq pork. The duck is delicious. The egg rolls are great. The Fried rice is top notch

Still my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Argyle area. Love their roasted duck, ask for the green sauce to go with it, it's extra but delicious.

My friends have come to this restaurant for years and has been their go to restaurant for roast duck, chicken, and roast pork. You'll see them hung by the glass. The dining area is big with huge chandeliers. Many round tables that can accommodate large parties. Perhaps even a wedding.

The plus is that there is a lot and I mean a lot to choose from the menu . The negative is that for one of my dishes , garlic chicken , it unfortunately had more onions than chicken breast and the chicken pieces are minuscule. The smelts were delicious, fresh and crunchy. The shrimp wonton noodle soup was very flavorful and full of yummy goodness.

Came here probably over 10mins now. Always try a couple new things with something classic Salt&pepper smelt fish: do not try this for take out. Only good if you eat it fresh out of fried pot. Gets super tough when it's cold House style spare ribs: not what I expected to be. I thought it's going to be rib with the bone, but it's just lean pork meat. Flavor is good. A bit sweet and chasiu flavor. Better eat it the second day when all the flavor's in it. However it takes a long time so be prepared to wait The other old classics's still good and cheap

I was able to book a reservation for 9 people, and they have their own private parking lot! We tried the peking duck feast, which came with bao, fried rice, and a soup. The gravy that comes with the duck is so good! They also have their own homemade hot sauce on the table, which is delicious. The pork was super crispy and flavorful. They also brought us a plate of cut watermelon at the end of our meal.

The prices at Hon Kee are much better and more affordable in comparison to Sun Wah. They also have a parking lot which is helpful. I personally love ordering their Duck over rice dish which pairs really well with their potstickers as an appetizer. The service on the other hand was a tad slow since they did not have a lot of servers. The ambiance is good for family gatherings or a meal with a date. I would recommend coming and trying their Asian bbq meats.

Rude service, dry bbq meat, and their fried rice has that smell where it seems like at least one of the ingredients was off. Ambiance inside is non existant. With so many other good options within half a mile, this place really does stand out, just not in a good way.

I have a bit of a soft spot for this place since my dad and I frequent this place often for lunch. We've been going here even when they were at their smaller location. Our go-to has always been the wonton noodle soup and splitting a 1/4 order of duck. We also usually order some siu yuk or roasted duck to go to take home. The wonton noodle soup is solid. Won't be beating anything from like... Guangzhou/Hong Kong, but it'll get the job done. They actually have a decently large menu with a bunch of standard Chinese dishes. I haven't tried their Peking Duck, but I've seen it and it actually looks really good. I would 100% pick it over Sun Wah just based on my experience with the other Chinese bbq meats I've had from here versus Sun Wah. The other Chinese bbq meats like siu yuk and char siu are also really solid. Personal fav is siu yuk, nice crispy skin and solid meat-to-fat ratio. Roasted duck also good. Service is fine. Can be a bit slow when it's busy just because they're a pretty light/semi understaffed crew, but you'll get your order. Ambiance is.. interesting because there's like a fake chandelier / almost banquet style seating even though there's a literal Chinese bbq butcher area at the corner of the restaurant. Definitely have a good amount of tables for bigger groups, too. I often see a bunch of older Chinese people drinking tea and eating lunch at one of them when I go. Very wholesome. Definitely worth checking this place out if you're looking for wonton noodles, Peking duck, or just general Chinese bbq stuff (char siu, siu yuk, etc).

Hon Kee BBQ & Seafood Restaurant We really did not dine-in, but we did have the duck. The duck was good! The decor inside is very fancy. Good bathroom too. Next time, we will dine-in. Recommended.

Been here way too many times for this to remain a 4 star review. The food remains consistently good and the service, well, it's friendlier than most but it's a rather large dining area and the customers really like this place - so what I'm trying to say is - you have to be aggressive in flagging down your server. You might want to bring a red scarf or a little Nordstrom Rack flag to stick up, in case you want some more tea. I personally like the crab Rangoon, their beef chow fun, and Chinese broccoli. Most of all, I'd say that I like the owner. You see, the old Honkee was an old school restaurant, nothing fancy but this newer restaurant is over the top with the high ceilings and brighter atmosphere. The owner reinvested and his American dream, well it really shows. The food is consistently good and HonKee easily rivals some of the Southside Chinatown spots. There's a small private parking lot but if it's full, there's a public lot next to it and there's also street pahking.

This is our go to place for chinese food when we are in the Argyle st area. With the rising prices their prices are still reasonable and the right servings. We crave for the roast duck and lechon (roast pork), always crunchy skin and juicy inside served with a side of liver sauce. We also ordered their yeong chow fried rice and the veggie i love is the spicy string beans. We're so full and still have to go. Service is slow, they serve the rice last which really sucks but you know i went here for the food so im not remiving stars for that. Ambiance is ok, the place looks clean. Finding parking is a challenge in this part of Chicago but worth it since you can still go to asian grocery stores, boba places etc.

On Christmas Eve 2019, we enjoyed a great meal here, and this year, we decided to make this our Christmas day dinner spot. Their crab rangoon is outstanding, and I have really liked the shrimp fried rice. Portions are so generous, and pricing is fair. They were so busy with takeout orders on Christmas, and my only suggestion is that they do a better job about making it clear that those dining in can seat themselves. We stood in line with the take-out folks for at least 15 minutes, and I could not make eye contact with anyone to see if we should just seat ourselves. A simple sign could make things much less congested and more clear for those dining in. While they were slammed with orders, the server (I think he was the owner, but not sure) sincerely apologized in advance for the wait for food. It's worth the wait, and I am glad we had such a splendid holiday meal at Hon Kee.

First time at Hon Kee Restaurant.They offers tasty dishes that satisfy the palate, but be prepared for a significant wait as their service process isn't the most efficient. A good clean and unpacking the cardboard boxes on the dining table can add more seatings. Additionally, the lack of parking can be a hassle for visitors. Recommend the food, but not as a business establishment. Order carry-out.

Delicious food here, I've been here two times, and everything I have tried, I liked. This place had a very similar duck dinner to the famous Sun Wah, and I'm happy to say that it is just as good, with the added benefit that Hon Kee is not NEARLY as crowded as Sun Wah. I was there on a Saturday evening in the summer and there were maybe three tables occupied in a giant banquet size room. Peking Duck Dinner ($48) - you get duck three ways. First, the crispy skin is sliced at table side and then eaten on steamed buns with fresh julienned veggies and a sweet sauce (the sauce is incredible!). The duck meat is then made into either a fried rice or a stir fry with celery (your choice). Finally, the bones are made into a light soup to perfectly balance out your meal. Compared to Sun Wah, I thought they were actually extremely similar. Garlic Pea Shoots ($12) - fresh and well-seasoned, would definitely order this again. I was very happy with my experiences at Hon Kee and would not hesitate to return. I'm excited to try their other barbecue offerings (like the crackling roast pork I kept seeing brought to other tables!).

My friend and I ordered takeout from here on a weeknight about 30-40 minutes before their closing time. This place is pretty large and has the circular family style seating that's typical of a traditional Chinese restaurant (think dim sum). What we ordered was good, however I wish we had tried more things because I'm sure there are some sleepers in their menu that are worth trying. Their menu is huge and extensive so definitely willing to come back and try it all. Service was exactly how I expected if, but if you understand cultural norms, then it makes sense, lol.

Hon Kee menu is vast and has a variety of dishes. What I like is that they have their own parking lot as parking on Argyle can be limited depending on the time. I come here most often and stock up on their BBQ pork, roast pork, duck/chicken, and steam chicken. I think they have the best in the city as the meat is moist and their roast duck is tasty yet less fatty.

We went to Hon Kee Barbecue and Seafood restaurant for l first time last past week. We've been to many restaurants in the Uptown area but this was our first time there. Did you know that they have been in the Uptown area in Chicago for 40 years? They opened in 1981 and have been serving delicious Chinese Canton Cuisine food since then. It's a family run restaurant and I was thrilled to meet the owner Paul Tsang and his daughter Melina. We came for the 3 course Peking Duck dinner (whole filleted Duck,  Duck & vegetable stir fry Duck soup), includes house-made hoisin sauce,  pickled radish & carrots.  Freshly julienned scallions & cucumbers and 12 steamed mantou baos.  It was delicious,  and enough food for 4 people. We will be back again for some of their most popular dishes such as:  BBQ Pork Scrambled Egg on Rice, Hong Style Lobster and any of their noodle soups! If you have never been to Hon Kee Barbecue and Seafood, I highly recommend that you go there soon!

Looking for Chinese BBQ & seafood? This is indeed a little hidden gem tucked in a smaller cross street of Asia on Argyle / Vietnam Town. Family Christmas Tradition dictates that we must eat duck for dinner and with the decline on quality and service of Sun Wah, Chicago is left with few reasonably priced Peking duck options. I made a reservation at Hon Kee as they offered the usual 3 course duck dinner for under $50. We arrived a little early and sat at an empty table. We ordered quite a bit as many things on the menu sounded appetizing (spicy pork green beans, pancit noodles, clams in black bean sauce, and of course the duck that comes with soup and fried rice). The server informed us that the kitchen was backed up so dishes would be delayed in coming out. The place was basically empty at 5p but he also stated they had takeout orders. As the dishes came out, each one was worse than the previous. The clams were covered in a thick starchy paste not the black bean sauce we all know and love. The green beans were cold and salty and then there was the imposter pancit. I have to say the Peking duck was fantastic but experience ruined by carver who when we asked to keep a few extra pieces of the duck, threw them down on the platter in disgust. Overall, the duck was the star of the night and after 2 hours we never received the rice or soup due to the backed up kitchen so they took it off the bill graciously. I wouldn't recommend coming here for anything other than the bbq or Peking duck. The service is lackluster and the dishes are terrible and might come out cold.

I'm sorry this place fell off big time!! Went in here for dinner. I order the rice place with 2 portion of bbq. Literally the duck was 4 little bite size and four small bite size roast pork. I even ask the waiter where's all the meat at? My meat got no duck skin anllor crispy pork belly skin. I finish all the meat in about 5 to 6 bites! Will not be coming back here. Save your money and go elsewhere!

I've been going to Hon Kee since I was little, it's one of my all time favorite Chinese restaurants! My two favorite things and really the only things I get is the BBQ pork with scrambled eggs over rice and the wonton (both with or without) noodles. Both are super tasty! Recently I also tried the salt and pepper egg tofu, which was really good as well. The service can lack a little bit, but the food is the main reason why I come here anyways.

Crab rangoons and bbq pork with scrambled egg. Period. The crab rangoons are just better. I don't know why. Maybe more filling to pastry ratio? It's not like Panda Express I'll tell you that for sure. The bbq pork with scrambled egg looks average, but boy was I wrong. They do something with the egg that elevates it. The egg just tastes so much better than eggs I've ever made. And the potion sizes??? Don't get me started. That dish lasted me TWO meals. And that's saying a lot because I can eat a whole chipotle bowl by myself

They sell their duck by s-m-l, the M which we had at are tables (as we were a large group)was nice equal to a actual half duck , meaty & nice. I decided to order the same to go when I left as Duck is my favorite. The container looked full & I was excited to eat it the next day. I was so disappointed as I got a bunch of bones buried in the container, various parts of several ducks the necks etc, parts that had no meat that all together was a mess, I was cheated & they probably serving the tables properly as people would complain. When you take home carry out they figure you can't see it, amazing. The food in the restaurant is so so so some dishes very salty. I will never go back. Shame on them. Shame on them

When I walk into a Chinese/Cantonese restaurant, this is exactly what I expect. Down to the table layout and the crystal chandelier! The prices are fair, the portions are large, and the dishes are tasty and cozy. The menu is pretty expansive and we tried to taste a lot of things. Some dishes were fine and others were standouts. Nothing was bad. Standouts: - Crab rangoons: Really tasty filling, good dough to filling ratio, and the sauce is delectable - Roast Duck: super juicy, tasty and filling. The sauce that comes with it is great too. Some of the best duck I've had in a long time. The BBQ Pork Lo Mein was pretty good but nothing to write home about. I liked it. The Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce was the same. I believe it was blanched, and then coated with sauce. That's more or less what I expected so I liked it too. The service was pretty good, but the restaurant is very big so they did forget to bring us an item once. I was satisfied overall. I enjoyed my experience at Hon Kee and am glad I now know of a family style Cantonese place in the city. Give it a shot if you're in Uptown!

I found this by accident as it is a littlew out of the way of Argyle street. The first thing that I noticed when I entered was how much space it has. There are myriads of tables. If youwanted to feed a wedding party of over 100 I think that they have enough seating. When seated they brought out a pot of tea. This told me that it is a real traditional Chinese restaurant. The folding menu has 9 pages of selections. There are a wide variety of dishes. I saw the ducks hanging in the window and the next visit I will try one of the many duck choices. I moticed that they have the cheapest smoothies around abd the most choices for fruits. They even have the tapioca option for a little extra. I had to have the chop suey as I have not had any for decades. They have the most varied chop suey that I have ever had. They had 2 expensive ingredients that most places don't bother with. There was bambu shoots and the tiny corns with many other things. On the table with the soy sauce was the traditional hot sauce in the dippin container. It is hot ground peppers in an oil and it is fantastic. Along with many Asian cutomers, includig a large family, were people of different races. The carry out and order section was busy all the time. I gues tho it was a find for me, manyalready knew and like the place. If you enjoy Chinese food this is a best that I eve had, Being from Chicago and having lived in NYC for over 3 years and in San Francisco for about 8 months, I have had a lot of Chinese food and can tell the difference between made for non Chinese food and the real thing. This is the real thing. If you ever find better please tell me. It is od that my favorite Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese restaurant are all in Chicago. I lived in Vancouver for 8 months and they also have a lot f Asian restaurants. My second favorite Vietnames is there. I say thisto let you know that I mean it when I say that it would be hard to find better.

As someone who also works in a restaurant worker. I understand the frustration when people come in when you're about to close. But don't be rude to the customers.

I admit that my parents were the ones that introduced me to this hole in the wall place for Peking Duck. My parents told me the dining room reminds them of what they used to see in Hong Kong. They love the Chinese barbecue here and claim it's the best in the city. So needless to say, they took the wheel when it came to ordering the food here. My parents ordered us the 3 course Peking Duck meal (Peking Duck filleted with buns on the side, duck soup, and duck and vegetable stir fry). The soup was so warming during that winter night and absolutely satisfying. The Peking Duck is the best I've had in the city. They fillet the whole duck in front of you, and serve it to you with sides of pickled carrots/radishes, fresh cucumbers, fresh julienned scallions, and fresh steaming baos. The vegetable stir fry was a good complement to the other 2 dishes, and definitely added some much needed veggies to the carnivorous meal. We also ordered some Cantonese roasted pork, which was pretty fresh and crispy as well. Conveniently, the restaurant has a nice parking lot for customers!

Free parking deserves a star... some colleagues from a nearby hospital recommended and we went after work event. Not a place i would normally dine at... not clean enough for me . Sorry! The service was quick , free jasmine tea was great , the string beans were good. We got Kung pao prawns, hot and sour chicken and beans. I will not be going back!

We really enjoyed this place. We ordered the BBQ pork char siu, the eel and shrimp fried rice, and the house special mami noodle soup. All of them were great. BBQ pork was slightly saucier than other places and delicious. House special mami was a very chickeny broth with beef tendon, dumplings, and noodles. Eel and shrimp fried rice came with orange crunchy stuff you find on some sushi. One tip is that they have a parking lot next to the restraint. Very unusual and helpful. The space itself is very large and could sit a very large party.

Each time I write a review for a Chinese restaurant I warm reviewers to take with a grain of salt. I'll say it again. .. I'm super basic with Chinese food orders and totally Americanized. I almost always order Orange Chicken, Combination Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. So judging from my experience with these inauthentic choices, Hon Kee is a 3.5 star restaurant. I've rounded up for consistency. I've never had an issue with my order. Pro Tip: When ordering Orange Chicken or any other fried item, request the sauce on the side to preserve the crispy texture.

Ordered from here, trying to find a new Chinese restaurant now that my beloved Wing How is gone. Got the combo lo mein and chicken fried rice, and egg rolls! Egg rolls were great everything else was good. Will definitely go back and order something different.

Stop there to get roasted duck, found cockroaches dead in the woman's bathroom, also both dead and live ones crawling outside the bathrooms. Love the food but will not go back again.

Hon Kee has upped its game after this former hole-in-the-wall restaurant moved into relatively swanky new digs last year around the corner from the Argyle Red Line stop on Winthrop. My love and I were looking for Christmas Eve dinner and decided to try Hon Kee after a nearby restaurant had a 90+ minute wait for a table. We were immediately welcomed to sit at a table (no wait!). Hon Kee is far more spacious and pleasant than its old location - even the way to the bathrooms is sort of nice. They were doing brisk business on this particular evening - not quite full, but certainly busy enough with dining parties large and small. We ordered crab Rangoon and veggie egg rolls as appetizers, and BBQ pork chow mein along with shrimp with scrambled egg rice plate as entrees. This was far too much food for two persons, but we were happy to enjoy the leftovers on the following day. We also were served with a pot of tea and glasses of water. Service from this family-run restaurant was fine, and prices seemed to be very reasonable. Give Hon Kee a try if your favorite Argyle-area dining spots are too crowded.

This is some bomb-ass comfort food!!! The BBQ pork & scrambled egg over rice is warming my cold, hardened soul all the way through. I threw some toasted sesame seeds on top for a little extra texture. The egg drop soup is like...a 7/10 as is. The corn elevates it, but I kicked it up to 11 by steeping a slice of ginger in there for a few minutes. The silky tofu with ginger syrup is hangin out in the fridge waiting for the pork, soup and I to finish up...can't wait... Get it.

Came here back in 2019 and it seemed like a nice restaurant & food was decent. But now it's 2023 & I tried it for lunch a second time. The restaurant was not kept clean! The tables were dirty & so was the floor. I ordered ginger chicken w/ scallions. There were a million bones & chicken was cold. There were practically no scallions & no ginger. Plus the chicken tasted like rubber as it was probably already cooked 1 day ago. I will never come back here & the city needs to close them down a.s.a.p. Really a very sad scenario!

We came here for lunch today to celebrate my birthday in advance, since my parents wanted to treat me. We've had Hon Kee before, and they've never disappointed us. We ordered ginger & scallion lobster, the Peking Duck (3 course meal), on choy, spicy jelly fish appetizer, traditional congee, salt & pepper fried shrimp, salted fish and chicken fried rice, and shrimp with pea pods. We were served pretty quickly, my parents are already talking about coming back, and they also have their own parking though it's small. They also spoke Cantonese to my parents, so it felt like a traditional and authentic meal even when it's not in Chinatown.

Overall: Hon Kee serves up some of the best Chinese BBQ ever, and that is coming from someone that lives in Southern California where there are plenty of shops making it. Bonus points for good prices! Food: 5 Roasted Pork: The pork is moist with just a small amount of fat, and the skin is super crispy even after a 45-60 minute trip home. In fact, the leftovers tasted just as good after being popped in the oven. Roasted Duck: Unlike the stores in California, they leave the duck juices on the side. I appreciate this because soaking the duck in juices often makes it feel too oily and makes the skin too soft. Here, the skin has a delicate crisp from being roasted. The portion is fairly large too. I'm not sure if I was lucky and got a big duck, but it had very little fat and a lot of juicy meat. Service: 4 The workers quickly took our order and prepared it very efficiently.

I keep giving this place a try every month or so to see if the chef is on a bad day but unfortunately his whole career is bad. I can't believe a place can produce such consistently terrible food that actually probably harder to make than just average food. Check out the terrible Peking duck which we paid $60 for and was refused a refund. Their BBQ looked like it was sat in an oven for hours - dry and tasteless with a horrible skin, I couldn't get paste a single bite. Other meals are similarly overcooked. Oily, badly seasoned dishes or no seasoning are common; and somehow they even wreck congee which has to take a real effort. Bad food and bad service consistently has placed this on my avoid like the plague list.

Very authentic Cantonese seafood restaurant. We had their eggplant stuffed with taro, the steamed napa with garlic sauce, beef tendon and turnip clay pot, beef egg over rice, and the preserved egg and pork congee. All were delicious. I really appreciated the freshness of the ingredients and attention to detail. For example, the eggplant taro had sauce on top yet were still super crispy and the steamed napa actually took the longest to make because everything including the garlic sauce was done from scratch. One thing I want say as well is that they're super clean. There is always someone cleaning the tables which were spotless.

My go to place for warm home cooking. Great menu inside and fantastic bbq (duck, pork, etc). The place seems to be run by a family and it shows in a good way. Like any family restaurant it's a bit messy but service is quick and the cut corners on decor but they really deliver in quality of food and home cooked flavors. To change this would make it a different restaurant. I think it's a touch overpriced menu wise but their take out bbq is a steal. See, another example of how this place is a typical family run place: there's consistent compromise in the menu. PRO TIP: order the beef broccoli and shrimp fried rice. Get the hot and sour soup and make sure you take home some roast duck and pork (the red pork is great and super sweet and savory but the salt pork is wonderful to add to a stir fry or some eggs in the morning

Affordable price for the amount of food! Location is good Large dining area Waited a bit while to get our food orders taken.. Food arrived fresh and temp is hot. Many people eating here and taking to go orders. Will probably give it another chance. But, IMO, Sun Wah BBQ is better.

Love Hon Kee BBQ. This restaurant has a weird name, but it has delicious food are a very reasonable price. My favs are all in their name, bbq and seafood. Order as take out and you save even more!! Oops, beside bbq and seafood, try the pea pod and chicken stir-fried!! We like the sauce so much, we save it for another dish we might make a few days later. We also love the pea pod tips with garlic sauce dish. Most delicate, delish dish all the Veggy ones.

I have been going to this place since before they moved around the corner. The decor is Matrix-Training-Room bland. I can't speak for the weekends, but the past two times I've been there, its been completely empty, except for one guy pushing a broom and another lost in his cell phone. I had to call out to get someone's attention. Their duck is pretty good, but quite oily. The bbq pork is usually wonderful, but the past two times I've bought some, each of the pieces have been as hard as wood chips, and flavorless. This used to be my go-to place for bbq pork, but I can't come up with a reason to go back. And that's a damn shame.

My wife, sister and I went to Hon Kee Restaurant in the Vietnamese section east of Broadway along Argyle Street. FYI the address is shown at 1064 W Argyle. The actual address should be at 5009 Magnolia Street not Argyle Street. There is also a parking lot in the back along Magnolia that I wasn't aware of until later. The restaurant dining area is very spacious with a ton of room. The menu selection is huge a bit overwhelming w/the selection. We ordered several items to be shared family style. * Seaweed soup w/ground pork (very little seaweed?) Tofu, egg & green onions. The soup stock was a little weak and lacked flavor * Pork Chashu was a cut thick and a little too chewy. I prefer the slices w/a thinner cut. It was ok, but it was somewhere middle of the road, nothing I would go back for. * Salt & Pepper combination of Smelt & Squid w/fried jalapeños and red peppers. This dish was very tasty, but we felt the portion size was a little smallish based on the price point of $12.99. * Fried Japanese Tofu - delicious and serve piping hot. A little crisp on the outside while soft hot and tender in the center. Did I say delicious? * Peapod Leaves cooked w/garlic, very good Overall the food was a little better then average like 3.223570 (Ahmed Rating System lol ) Average service and nothin special. They did have a humongous menu selection so maybe we could have ordered something that we liked better?

Never in my life have I been served a plate of cold bbq duck and a separate plate of old dried pork (I really asked for pork belly). What's the point in asking when they don't care to serve food at the correct temperature. Egg rolls were warm not hot. The only thing that came out hot was my soup and the bowl of rice. My friend barely touched his Mongolian beef. Only reason I came here is because Sun Wah was closed. I almost went to Thai Pastry. I just paid and left. I must have caught them on an off night because they must have been serving left overs from earlier in the week. I don't see how the reviews are so good here.
