16 Best Old Fashioned Cocktails to Drink in NYC | Eater

"A newer addition to the Lower East Side, Honeybee’s is likely like nothing you’ve experienced in Manhattan. A saloon? With plant-based barbecue? And a “golden cabinet” program with hard-to-find whiskeys? There’s no better place to stop in for an Old Fashioned and a bite of vegetarian “burnt brisket ends,” made with seitan and a mushroom blend. Owner Ravi Derossi and beverage director Sother Teague have many tricks up their sleeves when it comes to the brown spirits, too. The cocktail menu focuses mainly on rye and bourbon, which means an Old Fashioned is a must. But the Elijah Craig cocktails are equally intriguing, like the New Boots variation of the Old Fashioned — it’s made with Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon, Amaro Ciocaro, cherry bark vanilla bitters, and Memphis BBQ bitters. A boozy Cherry Coke with a hint of smoke might be the best way to describe it." - Vox Creative

Had breakfast here for the first time. The greeter was a little stale and could not manage to get a smile off. The waitress was nice, albeit not too attentive. The food was pretty good, just slightly above average for the area. The prices are good, which helps a lot. We'll be back sometime and give it another shot!

Google
Favorite place to come grab breakfast or brunch. Love the workers, they are all very kind and food is always good. Price can't be beat, and it's cozy and welcoming. Never had a dish i didn't like, and they have potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. I come here at least once every 2 weeks.

Google
Stopped in on the way home from our annual trip to Geneva and it did not disappoint! Food was excellent and the prices were very affordable, great portions too. The zuppa soup of the day was sooo delicious. The vibes were very cute and cozy and although we didn’t sit there, I loved the look of the bar area. The owner was so sweet and helpful as was the rest of the staff! Highly recommend and hope to return!

Google
A must-go destination. Classic comfort food with a retro atmosphere. Friendly, local place. Lots of tables large enough for groups and families. One of the only good breakfast places open on Sunday mornings. Despite the crowd, we could still have a conversation.

Pete Rubino

Google
Went there with my family five of us total. They were kind of busy but not completely full, stood at the front door for 10 minutes. Nobody greeted us. Everyone was avoiding making eye contact with us. Walked up to the bar area to try to get someone's attention but I must have been invisible. We started feeling awkward standing around while other people are eating so we left. I don't know if it was because I had three children or other reasons why we were ignored. I was looking around to see if there was a sign that said seat yourself and I didn't see one.

Google
Great food. Great service and they lady there remembered my order 😊 from the last time I went there. Love this place! Will keep coming here! If you go to Geneva ohio you Definitely need to stop here!

Google
Great breakfast, very nice surroundings. Our waitress was fantastic, and we thought it was good for the money!!

Jim Grubbs

Google
Our first time, we will return. Our waitress was willing to allow me to create a special breakfast bowl. She and the cook then created the perfect breakfast bowl. Biscuit, homefries, onions, peppers, sausage, eggs over easy, all smothered in gravy. Yum Everyone was super pleasant and friendly.

Yelp
I loved this place so much and I'm so sad I have to drive 2 1/2 hrs to ever go again the BEST eggs benny I HAVE EVER HAD! And it wasn't even on the menu, you just ask and if they happen to have the hollandaise then it's your lucky day. I like that you choose your potato and can get homefries or hashbrowns. Everyone was so friendly, food came up quick and the coffee cup was never empty! This is a must go if you are in the area!

Yelp
When i say local, i mean local! Absolutely loved mingling with the locals here. They knew we were from somewhere different, especially me, . Typical diner with local humor and gentle ribbing with the great comfort food was great.

Yelp
I was recommended this restaurant for breakfast, and I really wanted to like it, but I fell short for me. It was a little crowded when I came in, which forced me to sit rather awkwardly on display in the middle of the room at bar stool counters. The wait staff was pleasant, prompt, and friendly, which is probably the only redeeming quality my experience had. The decor was very cute, the place has a certain charm, but it seems like it is set up for more of a meeting spot to sit and chat for older patrons. I ordered pancakes, two pieces of sausage, and hash browns covered in gravy. The pancakes were a bit flavorless, the sausage was as good as any you can find anywhere else, but the hashbrowns were crunchy and undercooked, swimming in too much bland gravy. Part way into my meal a man made himself comfortable in the seat directly beside me, making me very uncomfortable, and kept coming around me to pick up and put down a many from where they were stored beside me at the very end seat. I'm not usually unfriendly, but the seats are very close together and when someone sits directly beside you and you don't know them it can really take away from your comfortability. I would recommend just waiting for a table if you decide to try the place out. I personally don't think I will be back.

Yelp
Local, small business with excellent food and service! Huge breakfast menu... deliciously different!

Yelp
A page from Norman Rockwell's Americana. Great food, great value, friendly service, and a comfortable environment. We had some basic breakfast dishes and they did not disappoint. Literally half the price of our hotel breakfast and better

Yelp
Good food friendly people good service and best place to go for breakfast and meet friends.

Yelp
This little diner in Geneva is a hidden gem. They have the best food and the best prices. The staff is friendly, attentive and always on point. The owner Irene is charismatic, energetic and personable. You really need to go there and if you do, you'll definitely definitely be back again and again and again.

Carrie R.

Yelp
We stop here on our way to GOTL all the time. Whether it's breakfast or lunch, it never disappoints. The waitresses are super friendly and the food is always made fresh to order.

Dottie H.

Yelp
We had a delicious breakfast...just like momma used to make! Staff was friendly and efficient. Strongly recommend!!

Janet W.

Yelp
Cute little diner in downtown Geneva. Breakfast is very reasonably priced and the portions are good. Service was slow but it was crazy busy and appeared short staffed.

Laurie F.

Yelp
We had a really great brunch after church here last Sunday. Quick service and excellent food!

Yelp
Great little place to stop for breakfast. The staff were so friendly. Had an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich on a biscuit with some hash brown potatoes. Prices were very good. It hit the spot!

Lynda A.

Yelp
Nice little spot in Geneva. Food was served quickly and tasted great. Very friendly staff.

Yelp
Fine, cozy breakfast/lunch place right off th center of town. They advertise home-made, so plan to wait for food made to order. Still, didn't seem any longer than usual. I had a half order of biscuits and gravy, and this was a substantial portion, and definitely a tasty homemade entry. My wife had a cup of Italian Sausage soup, full of home made goodness, and a cold meatloaf sandwich. Very good to her, though I'm not inclined to appreciate cold meat loaf as one might cold pizza. But she had an awful meat loaf the night before, so was bound and determined to replace that taste in her mouth. The waitresses were standouts and called their regulars by name. One grizzled looking guy with an eyepatch shuffled in and sat down slowly. He could have been Robert Shane's brother from JAWS, the wily captain you could charter to go out after the monster walleye on the lake. V two waitresses stopped briefly to sit and talk with him. Solid place for lunch, with an O shaped counter where waitresses held court over their 6-7 senior males. Take time to walk off lunch break ducking into shops and antiques stores all within a 50 yard radius.

Yelp
Typical local diner. Food is good but lacks that little extra to make it special. The corn beef hash is done correctly and tasty, but it is straight from the can to the griddle. Same issue with the hash browns. Potatoes grilled, that's it. Would love to see a little attention and personalization. This is a decent diner with great potential to go much farther. Until then, a good spot for a homemade meal if you are already in the area.

Yelp
Always Extremely Excellent Food at GREAT PRICES and Very Nice Waitresses and Staff Never have I had a Bad meal there Always Outstanding!!!!!

Yelp
Friendly service. Out of towner here for business. Hometown diner that does exactly what it should, simple meals done well that won't leave you hungry. Fried haddock sandwich with fries for $8.25. Picture tells the story.

Yelp
Quaint, very friendly small town mom and pop eatery. They serve breakfast all day so we had breakfast for lunch. Really good biscuits and gravy (not packaged gravy so that alone will almost always get you five ) eggs and potatoes really good but bacon and sausage I've had better. Just traveling thru but I'd eat here again.

Tracy A.

Yelp
Closed-I think permanently? We were looking forward to trying it. I hope it wasn't another tragedy of the pandemic.

Diane W.

Yelp
Best Rueben I've ever eaten! Traveling and found online. Was a bit out of the way but so worth it.

Elieen W.

Yelp
awesome small town restaurant. service is topnotch and food is wonderfullly delicious!

Yelp
I have been looking for a perfect breakfast spot and since I'm not too familiar with the area my mom and dad found this cozy brunch establishment. It has everything your looking for and more. More old school no alcohol here which is actually better. The coffee is tasty and the food is out of this world. Try the specials they never seem to disappoint.

Yelp
Excellent business, very welcoming during COVID. The food of course was once again fantastic for the money. Service was cheerful fast.

Yelp
Everything we had was great. The best Eggs Benedict I ever had, and a pretty good single pork chop were perfectly complemented by a bean and ham soup. Others had the country fried steak, which I tried and was also very good. Freshly made cole slaw was tasty. The prices were very low, disproportionate with the quality of the food. Service was very friendly and engaging. If I lived in Ohio I would come here all the time.

Yelp
We stopped for breakfast while staying in the area and wanted a casual breakfast. This is a place that is frequented by local because the minute we walked in everyone stopped eating and stared at us. We found a table and the server was friendly and quickly got us coffee. I ordered the eggs Benedict special with home fries and my husband had scrambled eggs with has browns and toast. The food came quickly and my eggs Benedict were very good. Poached eggs were done perfectly and the Canadian bacon was tasty. The only disappointment was the potatoes. This isn't a problem for just this restaurant, it is one for all restaurants that makes an enormous pile of potatoes and leave them sitting on the grill. When you get the potatoes, half are cold because they were on top and the bottom ones are overdone. My husband felt the same way about his hash browns. His scrambled eggs were good and the toast was actually toasted. Prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a nice diner to grab breakfast. We are staying at The Lodge at Geneva on the Lake, but no local cafes or diners were open in the immediate area, so we were lucky enough to find Honeybees. The waiting staff was very friendly, food was delicious, and the pricing is superb for dish sizes. We'll definitely be back, highly recommend!
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast, staff is very friendly and they are quick. I wish they were open a little earlier than 6:00 am during the week as I am early riser for work. Would be nice to be able stop in for a bite before work.

Yelp
Once again we return to Honeybeed while in Geneva for A10 swimming championships. Great little local dinner serving breakfast the old fashioned way- lots of good food at great prices. Good coffee, smiling servers. Happy to give it 5 stars

K M.

Yelp
Yummy fish and chips for lunch great prices friendly staff! Would recommend highly! The fish was huge and sweet potato fries so good.

Lori E.

Yelp
Honeybees is great. We were staying in Geneva on the Lake for the weekend and found this spot. Server was awesome and the food was delicious and fast. Home fries were amazing. Will definitely go back.

Michael M.

Yelp
Get your wine on and then for a "get back on your feet" breakfast the next day get your grub on at the bee! The waitress was a breath of fresh air and the food was reminiscent of moms cooking back in the day. Will be back on next wine adventure.

Yelp
Pretty good diner food. No online presence so its hard to tell when they open of close. Usually go up to the geneva swimming area then come down and there closed. So we went ther first this time. I got sos which was good and biscuits and gravy which is good too. Fast friendly service.
google avatar

Jake V.

Yelp
It was amazing I just tried it for the first time this morning, the Italian sausage with peppers & onions omelette was perfect
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Nice diner. Had the chicken fried steak. Very good. Great waitress who was very attentive.
google avatar

Greg E.

Yelp
Good food at a reasonable price. Service was very good. I had an omelette (they offer breakfast all day) and it was excellent (order homefries not hash browns). My wife had a patty melt cheese which she enjoyed, although a little disappointed that chips did not come with it. Atmosphere is like all small town family restaurants.
google avatar

Kari W.

Yelp
Typical small town diner. I love going there for breakfast. Pretty cheap and good food. Parking is in the back!
google avatar

Deidre S.

Yelp
This place is what it is, a small local diner. If you are looking for a fancy breakfast or lunch this isn't for you, but if you are looking for good food for a fair price try it out. My favorite thing to get is their chipped beef over toast.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a fan of diners. There is something comforting about a local place that offers the basics for lunch, dinner and breakfast -- and perhaps there is a specialty dish or two thrown in for good measure. We were in the area for a family gathering at Geneva on the Lake so my sister and I ditched the buffet breakfast at the Lodge for home cooking. Sis loved her omelete, hash browns and toast while I enjoyed by scramble eggs, biscuit and home fries. The coffee was good and refilled often with a friendly smile. Friendly, busling and filling. A diner in the finest sense of the word.

Tina F.

Yelp
Enjoyed our breakfast. Sausage gravy and biscuits were some of the best we have ever had! Potatoes were flavorful, but not hot. Husband said his Eggs Benedict was great, eggs were perfect. My breakfast burrito was more like a quesadilla so it was harder to eat. Server was great.
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
I love Diners and I love supporting local spots. We were greeted and service was quick. I loved their french toast and home fries. If u r expecting a 5 star experience, this is not the place for u. I do recommend if u want a quick, low cost alternative to big franchises ;)

Yelp
Delicious food, great prices. I love that it's accessible, as my toddler uses a wheelchair. I always get the mushroom swiss burger and fries and its always fantastic. One of the few places where we never bring home leftovers because there never are any! A clean your plate kind of place.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a local who has dined at Honeybee's on multiple occasions. If you consider yourself a "foodie" or are seeking haute cuisine, Honeybee's ain't for you. This is your typical small town diner where friendly staff won't put up with BS and serves large portions of good food at very reasonable prices in a place that has seen slightly better days. I have never experienced slow service or food that wasn't good. I will take a good ol' blue plate special over a flaming cranberry soufflé any day of the week!

Stacey U.

Yelp
Favorite hometown cooking. Homemade soups and daily specials that are also homemade. Large pancakes and the biscuits are handmade not from Cisco or any other food service place. The people are real and don't have the corporate attitudes, so the atmosphere is laid back. If you come daily they know your name, if your a summer guest just enjoY the old tIme diner feel. It's more than affordable but most of all if you love soup then this is the place! The food is always fresh, the coffee Hot, and the portions are sizable. The salads are crisp and the burgers are juicy. Try the sour cream battered French fries they are Out of this world.

Mason R.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday morning. Felt rushed the whole time. Also, ordered breakfast burrito and it was more like a Taco Bell quesadilla but that actually tastes better. Got sick to my stomach after. Very disappointing
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Slow service crappy food. Three waitresses but only one young girl taking tables. We waited 10 minutes to order and 30 to cash out. The biscuits and gravy tasted like they were pre packaged frozen and expired 20 years ago. They need to get their act together if they want to stay open this time of the year.

Chrissy B.

Yelp
Food was pretty good and fair price. Not super clean or super friendly. Smelled like smoke in the restraint. Ran out of sprite (which was not fountain but cans). Fast service.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Here the deal with this place. It is what it is. It is a local diner. As for local diners it is a good one they have a great menu for just about all your needs. I had chicken noodle soup and a burger with fries and gravy. The sandwich was great and so were the fries with gravy. The Soup though was amazing. I do not know if they serve it every day, but they should. Our server was a nice young lady and took care of every thing we needed. I would have given this place 5 stars, because as a diner this place is what i look for. Heres the problem. Please get a credit card machine people. It is not 1950 any more. Most people pay with a debit card or a credit card. If you are going to act like your store is before credit cards then your prices should reflect that too. So what 10 cents for a burger and fries and 5 cents for a coke then. lol That's what i thought get the machine.

Yelp
well, I finally tried this place. not too impressed.. the food was OK, not really great. service. was not great. the server was preoccupied with the locals in the place. will not return..
