The Best Listening Bars in NYC for Music Fans | Eater NY

"Included as an example of the trend, this Park Slope opening is described as a cocktail spot positioning itself as a listening bar — part of a wave of venues emphasizing curated music selections alongside complementary food and drink." - Emma Orlow

The Top Listening Bars In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Yet another establishment modeled after Tokyo listening bars, Honeycomb is a place where you can sit in the dark and listen to the latest release from Impulse! Records. The narrow room in Park Slope is filled with wood and leather, and the overall mood is laid-back, casual, and generically romantic. This spot an impeccable choice for first dates, but if you just want to drop in, have a quick drink, and listen to a few tracks, you can do that as well. Be sure to order the cocktail with truffle honey. It’s a lot better than it sounds." - Bryan Kim, Kenny Yang

Honeycomb - Review - Park Slope - New York - The Infatuation

"Honeycomb is one of several NYC spots inspired by the analogue listening bars of Tokyo. It’s a great place to geek out over some hard-to-find vinyl, although this Park Slope bar at the northern end of 5th Ave doesn’t take itself too seriously, so you don’t have to worry about getting quizzed on John Coltrane’s discography as soon as you walk in. The room is dark and narrow, with just a few tables, a bar lined with heavy leather stools, and a couple of turntables. You'll probably hear some kind of jazz on the stereo, and you can chat with your bartender about it while they fix you up a drink. Try the cocktail with gin and truffle honey. It’s sweet, savory, and confusingly delicious." - Bryan Kim

I've been to Honeycomb more than twenty times, easily, in the years since it opened - alone, in groups, on dates, any number of reasons. The drinks are great, the music and sound system are fantastic, the bartenders are outstanding. And the vibe WAS great. Unfortunately in the last six months or so it has changed significantly, with the owner becoming infuriatingly controlling and ushering about who sits where. I get that he's trying to curate a listening experience and a certain vibe, but if you're gonna own a bar (especially in a high-traffic area near Barclays Center, where people are coming in to drink off the street and may not have had you in mind as a destination), you have to chill out and let people have the bar experience that they want. (This went as far as **locking the door** during bar hours the other day so that no one could sneak in un-chaperoned.) Maybe I want to sit alone with a book at the corner and talk to the bartender. Maybe I want to sit where I can catch the eye of someone cute nearby. Maybe I don't want to sit at all. This change has completely destroyed the vibes of the place, and it's a damn shame. And yes: maybe I want to have a louder conversation than you'd like. Maybe we're having fun. In reading other comments, his obsession with controlling the environment is leading to people feeling they're being treated poorly because of their race/gender/etc. Not at all cool - this really has to change.

What an experience ✨ The DJ knows how to play at the listening bar and showed us the best music and vibes… The drinks are wonderful. I’m in love and I will definitely come back.

Overall, a great bar experience. The place is very nice, the cocktails are well-crafted and creative, and the atmosphere is original, intimate, and quite selective: definitely a spot that stands out in Brooklyn. We did have a small issue with our bill during our first visit, but I really want to highlight how professional, reactive, and kind the team was. They responded quickly, acknowledged the mistake, and handled everything in a very classy way. When we came back, they even offered us drinks, which we really appreciated. Mistakes can happen anywhere, what matters is how they’re handled, and in this case it was done perfectly. Would absolutely recommend, and we’ll definitely be back.

Lovely music focused bar with great sound system and live DJ. Space was very intimate and loved the vibes here. Drinks were super strong and they offered great selection of seasonal cocktails — orange blossom margarita was very good.

Google
A lovely listening bar experience with tasty drinks and, most importantly for my purposes, a great system playing a wide diversity of tracks--I've heard Willie Nelson, Trouble, Camel, and more. Having gone to a lot of listening bars in the City and Brooklyn, this is in my top 3, with my other favorites (Kissa Kissa and All Blues) being more jazz-focused. John & co. have built a great joint. Highly recommended.

Been at my fair share of speakeasies and bars in the city. I can say with complete confidence, the vibe of this place is one of a kind. The energy is warm, the staff are attentive, and you can tell they truly care about hospitality. It's got an ATMOSPHERE! It's real cozy in there. And they always play new music! Vinyl only...I love it! If you’re looking for a spot with great music, good drinks, and an atmosphere that actually lets you enjoy conversation, Honeycomb is it. A real gem in Brooklyn...

Yelp
I've been meaning to check out a trendy, new listening lounge and was finally able to do so at Honeycomb. We came here after dinner on a weeknight. Crowd seems to swing 30s/40s. Definitely a more relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. As expected, the acoustics were solid and the playlist was esoteric. No popular songs and you'd likely need to be an audiophile to recognize anything. All vinyls and it seemed to be bartender's / DJ's choice. We came earlier in the night and were able to grab the private table in the back for four. Almost all the seating is best for two plus the bar seating works for smaller groups. Certainly not suitable for larger groups. They had three beers on draft. All craft and as wide of variety as you can get on just three taps. They've got wines, a full bar, a solid whiskey selection with a focus on Japanese whiskies. The whiskey list is pretentious and most pours are gonna run $30+. I opted for a pour of barrel strength Old Carter's bourbon. There is one single occupancy restrooms. Service was very quick and helpful. I appreciated the mature and intimate atmosphere.

Yelp
My favorite bar in New York City. The best place to grab a cocktail/wine/beer and listen to some specific and awesome vinyls, unfamiliar and familiar. Fantastic & genuine staff and the music with the right drink, is a winning combo!

Yelp
Super chill spot to grab a cocktail and listen to some tunes. Very small, intimate bar with great vibes. Came here with a couple friends, and it was pretty busy on a Thursday evening. There's limited seating at the front and the back, and a fairly decent bar counter, and a ledge in the back where you can stand. The place is inspired by Japanese record bars, and for you audiophiles out there, it's a pretty sweet sound system setup. Great music and vibe when we were there. Also, special props to the service - on a crowded and bustling evening, the bartender came out behind the bar to ask if we wanted first dibs on a table since we had been standing in the back for so long. She didn't have to do that, so was much appreciated! Look forward to many future evenings here at Honeycomb!

Yelp
This place is more like a bar than a lounge, at least in terms of space and seating. Long bar, people standing everywhere, and then one small area in the back with a semi-private vibe. They had some really good cocktails, though! And a guy is playing records all night and the sound quality is amazing. Because of the tight space, we nearly bumped into his setup half-dozen times. Overall worth it to get a drink.

Yelp
A Japanese style hi-fi listening bar in Brooklyn you say... I knew I had to check it out tout suite. The first challenge is not walking past the place on the street -- apparently the new definition of "speakeasy" is just not having a sign and making the door handle hard to locate. Once you've finally made it inside the next challenge is finding a place to sit and a hook to put all your crap on. But listen, it's narrow but also a lovely warm space with dim lighting and excellent acoustics. The music of course rocks, and I remarked to my friend it was cool to be in a bar where I can both hear him next to me AND hear the music clearly. Though ngl I was sort of hoping this was gonna be like a dead silent bar with people in turtlenecks and berets sipping cocktails and listening to jazz -- alas, it's not. The vibe was definitely more date-night meets chill small gatherings. But of course the most important part is the drinks: Honeycomb seems to specialize in Whiskeys and Mezcal, and they had an interesting variety of both on display. I actually opted for sake and this one gin cocktail that had truffle honey and lemon in it -- uh, amazing. A LOT. but in a good way. The servers were super nice and friendly, definitely went out of their way to put a personal touch on service which I haven't experienced in a bar since I was a regular at a dive bar in the early 2000s. Nice chill time! Will definitely make it back here, their record collection looked sick.

Yelp
Visited Honeycomb Hi-Fi Lounge on Thursday evening. It is a cocktail bar with a lot of potential, but I think the drink options need to upgraded and a schedule of DJs, or at least genres, be publicized. Quality: A pretty generic cocktail list. I went with the Martian Landscape, which seemed a bit more fun and creative than the rest. With whisky, lemon, honey, and a red wine float, it looked beautiful, but the flavor was not my favorite. The red wine was the problem, I think it was a bit too bold and overpowering for the drink. Quantity: Typical cocktail sizes. Value: $14-$18 for Cocktails. Ambiance: Honeycomb Hi-Fi Lounge is a cocktail and listening bar located in Park Slope. A newer entry to the trend of bars focused on a more relaxing setting to listen to vinyl. The entrance is not well marked, look for a multi-colored window pane. Inside they have a small lounge area near the entrance and then a bar that stretches to the back. Long and skinny space with dark and intimate vibes. I don't know if I came at a weird time, but no one was at the record player and I didn't get the sense that records were spinning, seemed like just an 80s pop list. Crowd: A decent crowd on Thursday evening, a few open seats, but felt busy. Service: Friendly bartender, but the ordering set-up is a bit awkward if you are not sitting at the bar. Parking: Limited parking in the area.

Yelp
The actual space is near and dear to my heart. This is where the old Wolf & Deer was. One of my favorite cocktail bars that closed down. Luckily, the space is now occupied by a trendy and fun new spot. It's not easy to get a spot in here and they don't have reservations. You kind of have to come on a good night or on the side till something opens up. The place just like it's predecessor, is super narrow. Once you get one, you'll be nice and cozy. The cocktails are all spirit forward and properly made. I really enjoyed their mezcal drinks. Despite being a bit snug, the place has a great vibe. With a DJ playing some jazz and other music, the place is becoming a Park Slope favorite.

Yelp
Love the ambiance in this place. It's my bf and I's go-to in the neighborhood when we feel like having a drink.

Yelp
A truly great, small bar with great cocktails and excellent music (that's the point of the place, no?) played on a top-notch sound system. We were there around 6-730pm and it was busy, but not packed. Music could be heard clearly over the din, but you could still talk to the person you're with. Perfect for two people. Might be a little harder for a larger party. I'll certainly be back very soon.

Yelp
Cozy, low key, elegant lounge modeled after Japanese listening bars. I appreciate that the music is at a decibel level meant to be appreciated instead of loud to mask awkwardness and encourage patrons to shout at each other. Great cocktails.

Yelp
Great Cocktails, Comfortable room and great music and audio experience with spinning curated vinyl by the bartenders. I will travel back to this cocktail bar to enjoy the vibe. I highly recommend this establishment for early drinks before dinner on a date.
