Where to Find Sweet Pies in Chicago

"Milwaukee import Honeypie operates out of Beard & Belly in Edgewater with a rotating daily assortment of hand pies and slices of cream and fruit pies, and full pies are available with 48 hours notice. The Key lime and coffee cream are both outstanding." - Naomi Waxman, Ashok Selvam

Beard & Belly and Honeypie Bakery bring pies, burgers, and poutine to Edgewater - Eater Chicago

"Lucks was a Chicago fixture who opened Northdown Cafe and Taproom in Lakeview. She later moved to open Honeypie Cafe and two other restaurants in Milwaukee. When she was in Chicago, she helped grow Northdown into a spot for late-night pie and craft beer." - Ashok Selvam

Google
So glad we googled this place. Really yummy pies and super nice people. We got the key lime cream pie, banana chocolate cream pie, and the peach blackberry pie. Good portions, kind of expensive, but a really good treat once in a while.

Google
I see potential in this place. The pies are very nicely decorated and flavors sound interesting though the 1/8th slices are VERY small for $8.50 +tax/tip. The peach/blackberry had nice chunks of fruit but was overwhelmed by lemon. A hint of lemon can brighten the flavor and add a little tartness but the amount should be cut in half. Milwaukee mud had a nice crust and ganache but heavy on forgettable whipped cream

We've had a few desserts here before but this evenings choices were absolutely delicious 😋 The Brownie (only $5 🤯) was AMAZING! Super moist & very flavorful with a chocolate chip surprise in every bite. I've been blessed to have some pretty good baked cookies 🍪 in my day but their Snickerdoodle was super good & melted 🫠 in your mouth... highly recommend trying both of these treats 😊

Google
I really liked the sweetness and the slight acidity of the cherry pie. Good crust as well. Slice of pie ~$8. It's nice that it's open later than a lot of pie places.

Google
I come at least once a week and walk out extremely happy that I now have pie for the next three days! The cream pies are all my favorite and I love that have a pie of the month; bring back raspberry chocolate! SO yum! Also, they make a fab vegan cherry!!

Google
One of the best pies i have ever eaten! $8.5 a piece. Quiet pricey.

Google
Fresh pies 🥧 & friendly faces. Tried the pistachio cream pie, love at 1st bite😋 My brother tried the peach pie & also loved it. Pie shop is connected to the Beard n Belly pub next door; Have a drink, grab a bite & stay for dessert!

Google
Incredible. I've been waiting years to try Honeypie in Milwaukee, and only recently learned of their Chicago location. The wait finally ended, and I can say that the pies are glorious! The banana creme had bits of banana in the filling, topped with rich cream and crispy banana chips for texture. The crust was super flavorful. French-style chocolate creme was excellent as well, unsweetened cream allowed the dark chocolate to really shine. It made a dynamite pairing with the Kyoto cold brew on tap next door. An all-city contender in my book, they have my vote over Bang Bang, though both shops serve pies of exceptional quality. Count me a huge fan!

Yelp
The fact that I haven't reviewed Honeypie Bakeshop until now should be criminal! I never thought I was a pie person until I came across this pie shop a few years ago. Let's address the elephant in the review, the pie slices are pricey. I have been to other pie shops or dessert places that offer pie and they are cheaper than Honeypie. But I can confirm the quality of the pies at Honeypie are worth the cost. My only piece of feedback is that the pie slice could be a little bigger for the cost. The employees at Honeypie are unbelievably friendly. Anytime I have visited they have been welcoming and seem to love the pie as much as I do. I am the person that looks longingly through their window to see if my favorite pie is in stock and they never judge when I come in! Honeypie is setup with a few tables for individuals that want to dine-in but it is mainly setup for to-go items. Honeypie is the entrance for Beard & Belly there is a lot of foot traffic but the actual pie shop moves very quickly. My go-to slice is the Milwaukee Mud and a close second is the chocolate mint pie. Both have a Oreo crust and chocolate cream. I highly recommend one of those two. The pie is very rich so I have always managed to get two servings from the pie. The pies rotate so it's a roll of a dice if you have a particular pie in mind. I typically can find an alternative option if my top two are not available. They have other delicious desserts if you are not a pie person. The brownie and salted chocolate chip cookie is a must try. I would say that the brownie is the biggest bang for your buck because you can get a few servings from it and it is so fresh.

Yelp
Small little pie shop front attached to a cool-looking gastro pub. The guy at the front was so welcoming and friendly. There were quite a few pie flavors, salted brownies, cookies, and granola. We shared a slice of the lemon blueberry pie. It had a very nice tangy flavor but was a bit too sweet for my taste. Also, pretty pricey for a slice but big enough to share. I would return to try other varieties. I was also eyeing the banana pie!

Yelp

Yelp
We were in the area and was craving some pie so was hoping for the place to hit the spot. I tried the Milwakee mudd pie and a brownie. The pie was alright it was mostly whip cream. The brownie was alright. Overall it was a mediocre place.

Yelp
The best banana cream pie I've ever had! So fluffy, so refreshing. Light yet perfect richness. I dream about this pie. Ambiance is mainly a front counter, I can't remember if there is seating but I want to say not really or minimal unless you can sit in Beard & Belly and order from them.

Yelp
With so much great stuff said about Honeypie Bakeshop in the media (e.g., NBC 5) and new neighbors in Edgewater, we were looking forward so much for a great experience with a Whiskey Walnut Pecan pie that we purchased for a Thanksgiving dinner party hosted by friends. It was a massive disappointment that the filling fell apart into a sloppy liquid mess and much of the bottom crust stuck to the pan! (Unlike the firm pie slice shown in Lina W's review, below ...) I would advise anybody who picks up a pie this weekend, or ever, to do a test slice if you can before accepting the product. UPDATE: Ben the head baker at Honeypie got in touch and apologized for this pie not being set properly, and we received a refund for the purchase. Honeypie has great reviews on this site and others, and word of mouth from new neighbors in Chicago Edgewater so sometimes, things can go wrong. We will give Honeypie another shot in the pending holidays.

Yelp
Ordered two pies for my birthday, and at $44 each before taxes I had really high hopes. I didn't think they were amazing. There was lots of whipped cream, which was perfectly set which I always appreciate. We had the black bottom banana and the salted honey pie, I think it was called. I expected the black bottom of the banana pie to be actually rich. The banana was clearly fresh, but it wasn't a rich pie at all. The chocolate portion I expected to be a smooth chocolate cream but it was almost like it had curdled. The salted honey pie was delicious, but the group complained about the crust because it was rock solid. It was very hard to cut through. Some of the slices had crust that was black and tasted burnt. The top of the pie had a weird very salty liquid floating on the top when we got it out to cut. But the inside was delicious. It was much like the inside of a pecan pie but honey flavored. Which I am so here for. It really didn't need all that whipped cream, though

Yelp
The pies from here are delicious! They're not overly sweet and are elevated from traditional pies, but not enough to be strange or weird. Thankfully they sell pies by the slice. If they sold whole pies only, I would probably finish it in a day... My favorite sweet pie (so far) is the apple pie. The crust is super flaky and it had a good amount of oat streusel topping. Their pistachio cream pie is good too. There is a generous amount of pistachio so make sure you like pistachio before ordering. Some of their savory pies are offered at beard and belly which is the attached bar/restaurant. The chicken pot pie is to die for. Super flaky, super savory, and super comforting.

Yelp
Delicious Pies from Honeypie bakeshop served at Beard and Belly, the connecting restaurant/bar! Both pies were not overly sweet or heavy. They were balanced in flavors. I couldn't choose a favorite out of the two and there is a looooong list of pies to still try, but I only have one stomach. Definitely will be back for more!

Yelp
After careful thought and many minutes of indecisiveness... I chose the Chocolate Cream Pie and the Chocolate Cheesecake to indulge in. Both were a delight, but ultimately the pie was my favorite. The whipped cream was so airy and light and the consistency, A1. The texture of the cheesecake was the perfect and the flavor was so unique, honestly much different than I was expecting. Will go back again next time I am in the city. Also, special shout-out to the two people who helped me decide what I should get. They were unbelievably sweet and patient!

Yelp
AMAZING baked goods! Honey pie is attached to beard and belly restaurant, and while you can get desserts from here with your meal from beard and belly, it is also a stand-alone cafe that sells some of the most delicious pies, cookies, brownies, and other baked goods that Chicago has to offer. We had the banana cream pie, which was so delightfully good that we are planning to go back tomorrow and get more for home. We also had the salted brownies which tasted flavorful and almost creamy. The pretzel chocolate chip cookie was giant and rich, and beyond delicious. The oatmeal cream pie was very very sweet but great. Everything here tasted very rich, decadent, and indulgent, but it is worth every penny! I was planning on taking pictures to add to this review but we honestly ate everything so quickly we didn't get a chance to!

Yelp
I got a slice of chai and key lime pie. And I also got a chicken pot pie. Key lime pie is okay. They have me a coconut cream slice and gave some older white woman the last chai slice (she came in 5 or more minutes after me). So I'm trying not to feel completely slighted by this situation. I like coconut but the pie is not exciting at all. It's pies have more whipped cream on them then they do filling which is ridiculous. The pie crusts were soft not in a good way and crumbled immediately. The guy who packed my order even looked like he was smacked out of his mind. Would much rather prefer a Bang Bang Pie slice ANY DAY! The chicken pot pie was honestly disgusting. I didn't even really finish it, but forced myself to eat like 85% of it because I needed to eat. There was barely any chicken in it which I guess I'm not too mad about because the prices of chicken I did eat were chewy and over cooked. The pie itself lacked immense flavor. Needless to say I won't be back here. Most certainly a wate of $27.

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise to stumble upon! Had a sweet craving and the only cure was a big fat brownie and man did this place hit the spot, like all the spots! I induldged in a few of their goodies, the salted brownie was the consistency that all brownies should forever be, moist in the center and crispy on the outside. They had a great balance of salty to sweet. The s'mores bar is the thing dreams are made of and lastly the chocolate chip pretzel Caramel cookie, wowza! This place is a must try and when it comes to sweets I have tried them all! Will be back for sure!

Yelp
First time stopping in after countless times of driving by. We ordered pistachio cream after reading another review. (oh, my!) It was so light and yummy! ---a very pleasant surprise. We also ordered strawberry rhubarb with a crumble top. Great with a late night cup of tea. Will be back for the peach pie that seemed to be talking to me...

Yelp
I like pie. I just had a slice of whiskey walnut pecan pie and is was delicious. If you like pie, it is worth the stop. We have wandered by several times when it wasn't open. Today it was and it was a very worthwhile stop. Highly recommend

Yelp
A must-stop location!! I was in the area and was in the mood for something sweet, so I stopped in on a whim and am blown away by how delicious the homemade pies are. I got a chicken pot pie hand pie to go, and it was one of the most delicious, buttery & flaky pies I've ever had. It had a perfect ratio of chicken and veggies to breading. I also got a slice of apple pie and it was so flavorful but not overly sweet. Definitely making the trip out here again!

Yelp
Love this place here and in Milwaukee. Great pies, great burgers. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We were very disappointed in our pecan pie. It was burnt. I'll bet the Christmas orders had overwhelmed them. Our big unveiling to our guests at Christmas dinner was an embarrasment.

Yelp
Off the chain good. My dad loved the apple and he is a connoisseur of apple pie, so that means something! My fave was the black bottom banana cream. I will crave that every day. Yum.
