We absolutely love this place!!! We were introduced to this place from a review from Alton Brown and we came here after our bad experience with Leong's if you wish to read what happened to us there. Alton Brown reviewed three places while he visited Springfield Missouri and wanted to try what he heard so much about with Springfield Style Asian Chicken and gave this place his best review out of three Springfield Asian Style Chicken restaurants respectively. The food here is amazing. There has not been a bad experience with anything that we have tried on the menu and there is a large selection to choose from. The Cashew Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken special all white meat have been consistent in taste, texture, quality and quantity that you get either in dining or through drive through. The meals are large enough to where most of the time we have left overs. If you want larger portions they have those too but you get a lot of food for the money. The sauces are consistently amazing and very tasty and compliment the dish well. The sweet and sour sauce is very balanced and not overly sweet. The chicken is consistently moist and tender and cut apart easily with a fork where other places we have tried have had woody tough texture and hard to chew pieces of chicken. The Crab Rangoon, Wontons and Pot Stickers are awesome appetizers that compliment any entrée choice. The wontons actually have a large portion of meat in them which is a pleasure from other places we have tried when you get a thin small piece of meat in them. The Crab Rangoon are not overly filled with cream cheese and not overly sweet and have amazing flavor and enough Crab meat that you can actually taste Crab. The Chicken Fried Rice is an amazing dish which has this wonderful smoky taste and they give you enough for two meals and they give you a lot of chicken within the fried rice. All the staff are friendly, helpful and courteous to their customers. The price is not as expensive as sit down higher end Asian restaurants in the area that charge a lot more for the same thing, and the food quality and quantity is better than the high end Asian restaurants around the city where you feel like you just been robbed for a meal that doesn't fulfill your hunger. I feel that you would not be disappointed in trying this place out. Hope you enjoy Hong Kong Inn as much as we do.

Google
The staff was super friendly and inviting! This being my first time in Missouri.. I had to try the local cashew chicken.. absolutely delicious! The price was very reasonable and the food and tea were phenomenal, one downside is it’s so tasty and not the healthiest that I can’t eat here too many times :P

Google
Awesome food, clean place, nice staff! Eat here a lot!

Google
This was my first time at Hong Kong Inn but not my first cashew chicken experience. Out of all of the different options in Springfield, this one is one of the better choices. The chicken is hot and fresh and free of any gristly pieces. The sauce tastes the way cashew chicken sauce should, not too salty and thick enough to stay coated to the chicken. I got the daily special (for $7.98!) and the portion was more than enough for me. Easily splittable if you’re bringing kiddos. The daily special comes with fried rice and an egg roll, both complementary to the well executed cashew chicken. The service was friendly and extremely fast and the restaurant was spotless. Overall a no frills type of place, but the exact type of Chinese restaurant I could happily find myself in 3 times a week. Check it out if you haven’t!

Google
I’ve been here a couple times with a friend, and as far as Chinese restaurants go, it’s pretty good. The price for the food was pretty fair, and it all tasted good. I would say that the crab Rangoon here was well above average, and actually were better than most I’ve had at other places.

Google
Had Lunch here on Monday, excellent food that's cooked up fresh per order, great staff and friendly service. Can be a bit noisy when they're busy

Google
Great choice for Chinese food in SGF! Kind, friendly staff welcomed me & made recommendations when I asked about menu. Enjoyed daily special (1/2 cashew - 1/2 sweet & sour) with white meat chicken - very lean meat/no gristle. Fresh tasting meal - not heavy. Saw all staff helping clean restaurant-in kitchen, counters, tables. Clean place with tasty food. Got there at 1pm as lunch rush was slowing down. Easy parking & convenient, just off Sunshine & Glenstone. Fried rice is light, not full of oil. Egg rolls & wontons are good. Orange & sweet & sour chicken are great! Will be back soon to try other items. 👍

Google
Every time we come down from Iowa, we come here. It's always hot fresh Cashew Chicken and Crab Rangoon. It is the true essence of Springfield Missouri style Cashew. It is always clean and fast I love this place

Yelp
This place has always been around forever - and it has always been a solid place. Peking House, about a mile east on Sunshine - I like better. But this place has always had a good value to price ratio. The place is fast, while always being very consistent in what they deliver. For any "non-SPRINGFIELDIANS": This place is (not) authentic Chinese food - this is the classic Springfield Chinese food. I suggest you try the cashew or general chicken dishes. General chicken is a bolder; sweet/little spicy dish. Cashew chicken is always a safer option, if your taste buds are very timid. The fried rice...another good choice. The fried pot stickers are good. The egg drop soup - its quite good. BUT, I had this young waitress tell me "She likes to add a lot of black pepper and a couple dashes of salt". I did just that - by gosh, this girl was spot on right in her suggestion! It elevated the soup; while (not) bastardizing the dish. Kudos to this young waitress and her suggestion!

Brian T.

Yelp
Cashew chicken wasn't very tasty...the sauce was a bland, thick gravy. The fried rice and egg roll were very plain. The portions are large, which explains why the lunch crowd was plentiful. If you're looking for better food, seek elsewhere.

Collin M.

Yelp
A very mixed bag of quality. I ordered general Tao's chicken, crab ragoon, and pot stickers. The chicken was easily the worst part of my order. While the inside felt alright the outside was slightly mushy and the sauce was bland to the point that after eating 3 to 4 pieces I just threw it away. The rice that came with it was a slight disappointment but not insulting, it was bland but it's white rice so it's to be expected. Only criticism I have of the rice is that it was very slightly dry. The crab ragoon was alright, a little too much cream cheese taste for my liking but some people prefer that. The sauce that came with it was also just alright, not very flavorful, but not bad. Overall the ragoon was meh, not bad enough to not eat it but not good enough to recommend it. The pot stickers and egg roll were the stars of my meal and are the only reasons this isn't a 1 or 2 star review. Both had a good crunch to them when biting in and tasted like they were made with fresh meat and vegetables. The pot stickers paired perfectly with their soy sauce and felt like the flavor was boosted to it's max potential. While I've only had their general Tao's chicken I don't know if I'd trust them with the other flavors. So if you're hungry for Chinese food but don't want chicken it's probably worth giving a chance as the portions to price is pretty good but if you want chicken look elsewhere. If for some reason you just want pot stickers or egg rolls definitely go here.

Yelp
Been craving Chinese and we stopped in to eat. Place was very nice and clean. Staff was really friendly. Food was great, lots of food for the price. Actually was better than the other 2 HK inns. Wish they served fried rice.

Yelp
Food was good and hot. A little bit of wait in drive thru. Friendly staff. Recommend. Would go there again.

Yelp
I have been to Hong Kong three times, because it is close to my house, I loved their food, but the customer service is really bad. I came through the drive-through the lady opened the window and practically threw the bag at me, there had been no disagreement, or anything negative said, I paid with Apple Pay, she handed my phone back to me, She closed the window, and the next time the window opened she practically threw the food at me.

Amber H.

Yelp
Wonderful, fresh food every time! Not authentic Chinese food at all but it's tasty, and the portions and price are outstanding!

Marilyn T.

Yelp
oh my I love Hong Kong in the food is so good prices are very fair and wait time is not a factor. I love the hot sour soup and the crab Rangoon is to die for...,.I visit there at least twice a month. today I ordered beef and broccoli it was great

Anna E.

Yelp
I used to really like this place, and would often grab lunch here for around $6-$7. I stopped by the other day any their prices have really going up. It's more like $10-$11 now. Okay, fine, the economy. But if they're going to raise the prices that much, too bad they can't invest in better containers with snap on lids. I sat the bag level on my seat and when I arrived home 5 minutes later, all of the sauce was loose in the bottom of the bag. The cheap styrofoam container had a hole in it. Food was just okay. While prices have gone up, it seems quality has gone down.

Yelp
This may be our new go to for Springfield cashew chicken. We have always gone to Leon's (R.I.P.) but they have gotten so expensive and smaller portions. This place was recommended to us and we found the food very comparable, good service and a clean eating area. It's not a complete sit down like Leon's, you counter order and they bring it out to you. Good experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Probably the cleanest Chinese restaurant in town, this place is very well managed and the food is exceptional with a reasonable price. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect for college students, came here my first week of college and got the dinner plate with a side and a drink for like 13 bucks. I am 6'5" and 315 pounds and I had enough to 1. Fill up 2. Eat prolly more than I should have and 3. Have enough leftovers for another meal. If you are looking for a lot of decently good food, this is the place.
google avatar

Jamal W.

Yelp
We stopped in to eat and kill some time. One if those things were accomplished. We are food. The food was good but not great. Service was good. The food was served so fast. Therefore, I didn't get to kill time....lol I was disappointed that they wouldn't allow us to substitute a pork egg roll with a cheaper vegetable egg roll. We could substitute with a wonton or crab Rangoon. Neither of which appeals to me.

Yelp
Was driving through from Columbus, OH...been on the road for 10 plus hours pulling a trailer. We called ahead to ask how late they stay open because we wanted to stop and stretch our legs. We were told the lobby closes at 8:30 and the drive thru at 9:00. We arrive and pull on the lobby doors at 8:24pm. Locked. We called and ask if they would let us in. The girl answering the phones said "we don't know how to unlock the doors. Once they are locked they can't be unlocked." Yah. She just said that. So are they locked in? How do the employees leave? How do any customers get in the next day? How do the customers that are currently dining inside at this very moment get out? Are they stuck in there forever with the employees? " I don't know what to do. You can come through the drive thru"....yah. She just said that too. Not sure I would trust these people with your food if they don't even know how to unlock a door.

Johnny F.

Yelp
Out of every Chinese food restaurant we've tried in Springfield Missouri this one is just like the rest. It really kind of sucks. Haven't met a single cook at a single Chinese restaurant in Springfield that actually knows how to cook Chinese. These guys specialize in flavorless brown gravy on everything. Going to go to panda express next time just so we can have some consistency. Such a disappointment
google avatar

Yelp
Springfield is the unlikely birthplace of that Chinese take out specialty -- cashew chicken. Now, I never order that dish anywhere, but here I am at the birthplace. So, I give it a shot at this sturdy looking Chinese place. The chicken is well fried and the sauce is pretty good. I would have liked more cashews. But, it was very ok. But not spicy at all. I will resume not ordering the dish. But this seems to be a good spot to get it

Alexa O.

Yelp
The best Chinese food in town hands down! Always so fresh and always consistently good. Top 5: general chicken add broccoli, cashew chicken, combination fried rice, chicken lo mein (spicy), egg drop soup!
google avatar

Kristi H.

Yelp
Recommended by a friend. Wonderful service. Fast service. Big portions. Cheap eats! 4.49 daily special = sweet & sour chicken or cashew chicken, rice, & egg roll. I ordered all white meat cashew chicken, 3 crab rangoons, & coke for $9 and change... Could barely finish mine & my friend, who ordered the same couldn't finish hers!
google avatar

Sofie K.

Yelp
I think the food from this establishment is always good. We enjoy several items on the menu. We like the cashew chicken, sweet & sour chicken, the beef lo mein, and the fried rice dishes (I really like the pork fried rice best). I have also had the beef and broccoli and I liked it as well. My favorite thing on the menu is the crab rangoon. The daily special or the meal for two is the deal to go for if you want classic Springfield style cashew chicken or sweet & sour. The meal for two comes with two orders or cashew chicken and/or sweet & sour and 6 crab rangoon. It does not come with egg rolls. At under 12.00 dollars, it is a great quick meal for two people. The inside this location is always clean. We often just do drive thru and the service is always great.

Yelp
Came in for a quick lunch. Was a bit hungry so I went for the large order of General Chicken. With a water still less than ten bucks. Nice. Drink in hand I go to my table. Maybe 5 minutes later, I kid you not, a serving platter sized plate is brought to my table. On it a pile of General chicken dripping in sauce and a heap of rice. Challenge accepted. With less shame that I probably should of had I finished the whole thing off. Sauce nice but not unique. I'd say the same for the fried rice. Plenty good but not a stand out. A-OK all the way. Next time going for a regular but will definitely be back. The Good Fast lunch. Low prices. HUGE portions on the large. Friendly clean atmosphere. The Bad I ate way to much. The Ugly Nada, this place does exactly what it set out to do. Sell good Chinese food and wallet friendly prices.

Yelp
I have this friend. She's from Springfield. For the last fifteen years, I have heard her proclaim the virtues of Springfield cashew chicken. What's the big deal? I now know. I understand the glazed look of desire that lights up her face. I have seen heaven and it's a dumpy looking dive on Sunshine. Oh, the paper plate of perfectly crispy chicken smothered in some sort of murky brown gravy atop a bed of rice. Appetizing looking? No. Gastronomical nirvana? Yes. The restaurant was clean, the service prompt, and the portions generous. Our host (a realtor tasked with making us fall in love with Springfield) was appalled that we insisted on being taken to her family's favorite Chinese place instead of one of Springfield's great upscale restaurants. O Realtor Recruiter Type Lady, you did your job well. We are moving to Springfield.

Beth E.

Yelp
The employee Sydney was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable. This girl deserves a raise.

Anna Lee H.

Yelp
I've been Hong Kong loyal for literally my whole adult life. I always get #17 and it's usually one of my favorite things! Tonight was a different story. The food came out super fast and the vegetables weren't cooked hardly at all. I should have taken a clue from that... I still ate half of it. Loyal, like I said. I've literally been to the bathroom 20 times since arriving home. Thanks, but no thanks for the cleanse. Sadly, You lost a customer today.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Just below par, the low prices is reflected in the food. Just kind of mushy Asian food, the rice seemed to be cooked in some sort of old grease and had a soggy texture. The General has a corn syrup flavor to the sauce. Great for poor college students and the frugal.
google avatar

Drew P.

Yelp
Been there many times. The cashew/Sweet Sour special CHEAP and GOOD. For a bit over 5 bucks: Cashew or S/Sour w/ rice, two crab rangoon, egg roll. Hell yea. As far as drive through cashew chicken places go, the one on North Glenstone is one of the best in town. I've tried lots of others and they can be either hit or miss--or just miss. Some of these places let their grease go bad and burnt and the chicken sometimes grizzly which makes for a sucky cashew chicken experience. Hong Kong Inn serves really good chicken (I get the all white) and the sauce is really good. I am pretty choosy when it comes to Springfield style cashew chicken and this is a good place.
google avatar

Joyce H.

Yelp
Ate there last night. Ordered two cashew chicken dinners white meat with Sides of Crab Rangoon. Chicken was dry and tasted warmed over and old. Not tender and gravy was way too salty. The Egg roll was soggy and didn't have a lot of flavor. Disappointed for sure. We've eaten there many times and never had this problem before. I want my food freshly cooked not sitting under lights.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Came here to get in on that famous cashew chicken that Springfield is known for. I'm not really sure what I was expecting and I didn't have any other type of cashew chicken so I don't have anything to really compare it to but I was underwhelmed by it. The staff was pleasant and prices were affordable. I should have done more menu research and gotten maybe just a side of the cashew chicken so I could have eaten something yummy. The location was convenient to our hotel and otherwise was quite nice.
google avatar

Jeanette M.

Yelp
Came here and ordered kung pao chicken, which is my favorite go to. I live about 10 miles from Springfield and I rarely eat take out so this was a treat for me. When I finally get home and start eating it I notice it's all diced celery, a few diced carrots, some peanuts and dried chicken. I was so disappointed to say the least that I even spent $6 on this substandard dish. I did call to let them know so hopefully it will improve.
google avatar

Yana P.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and the food is the best! Chicken was hot/crisp and fresh! The egg roll was delicious!
google avatar

Nigel H.

Yelp
My wife and I have eaten at Mimi's Hong Kong Inn for many years now, and it's one of our favorites. The portions are plentiful, the staff is friendly, the restaurant is always clean and bright, and the general chicken is to die for. My wife always gets vegetarian meals, and she loves all of them. I really can't think of anything on the downside to post, so I won't! Wonderful meals!
google avatar

Kristy S.

Yelp
LOVE this place - make sure you go to the one on Sunshine, not Battlefield. Cashew Chicken is hot and delish - and their veggie fried rice is really good too. You can eat for $4 - wow!
google avatar

Jacklyn P.

Yelp
Born and raised on Springfield style Cashew Chicken. This is great. Their sauce is a little lighter in color than some others, but it's always on my must have list when I'm in town. I love that the same woman I encountered eons ago is still there!
google avatar

Natalie M.

Yelp
Called in my order tonight at 5:30 before leaving work and was pleased with the prices but surprised to find they do not take credit cards over the phone (inconvenient but I can move past that) I told them I'd be there in 30mins and I was told they'd have it ready for me to pick up. When I got there I paid and was told that my food would be ready in 15mins. I didn't receive my food until 6:30 (all the while their drive thru is working smoothly) When I complained to the manager she feigned poor English and kept telling me that they were busy. Finally I told them I wanted my money back and I would go else where. They told me the food was already made they couldn't refund. Completely not happy with this place :(
google avatar

Steph B.

Yelp
I wanted a veggie stir fry. Pretty common for a Chinese place, right? Not this one. They game me a mushrooms, carrots, celery, covered in brown sauce. Gross. I requested fried rice, my boyfriend requested steamed. No difference in taste or appearance between the two.
google avatar

Paris S.

Yelp
I was not impressed with the food here. I ordered General Chicken and my friend ordered Cashew Chicken. Both of our sauces were VERY bland. Tasted like gravy over fried chicken and had no tanginess or flavor. Also, you can't substitute the egg roll for crab Rangoons and you have to pay for the fortune cookies. The crab Rangoons were also flavorless. I've never been to such a sorry Chinese place!
google avatar

Jordan A.

Yelp
Sunshine Hong Kong Inn is the best one of them all. Always friendly, nice portions, and dependable good food. The hot and spicy chicken is my favorite!
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Great food, nice portion for the price. Fast service for a walk-in. The only thing they could've done better was put the paper bag in a plastic one with handles to carry.

Della E.

Yelp
Who from Springfield doesn't love cashew chicken ... only made in Springfield?? I visit Hong Kong Inn every time I come home. Hong Kong Inn is consistent in their quality of cashew chicken which hasn't changed since this was the hot spot in high school after softball games. It's still cheap and still delicious. I always get the cashew child's plate, which they never question or encourage me to get the special or full size portion (thank you!). My dude gets the daily special and I've noticed that the main difference between portion sizes of the daily special and child's plate is mostly rice. It always disappoints him and entertains me. At this location, the same woman has worked the drive thru window for the last 2 years at least. She's always pleasant and is quite efficient. She somehow makes me feel better about going through a drive thru. Tip: fork up the spare change for all white meat
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
I was a little skeptical when I pulled up to the restaurant, but the food lived up to the reviews. I had the cashew chicken and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend this place and I will definitely eat here again the next time I am in Springfield.

Mason M.

Yelp
First off, the food was okay. But Yum Yum Bowl is way better and worth the drive down the road! I Ordered a half/half Cashew and General chicken plate, instead they gave me two different entrees, one Cashew, one General, which is way more food than I needed. I called when I got home and explained that I couldn't make it back that evening to bring the food back. When I came in today to get my refund, bringing the food and receipts they told me that they wouldn't refund me. So now I paid 200% the price of my meal and they took back my other plate and threw it away.
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
I have tried crab rangoon several different places including several surrounding towns, and theirs is the best by far. I don't like it sweet, and theirs isn't in a clump. Its smooth and creamy. Egg rolls are pretty great, too! Only place I've found that i order hot n spicy chicken. Once in a while someone gets heavy handed with the peppers, but only twice in years of eating it has that happened. Great place to eat! Yum!!

Brent S.

Yelp
This is a good place to eat. Very reasonably priced and the food is really good. Menu order no buffet. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Trevor C.

Yelp
prices not bad. food usually pretty good for Americanized Chinese. Ordered Shrimp fried rice, got home to find chicken fried rice with very little chicken. 80¢ difference not worth the drive back but ill check my bags from now on before I leave the window. otherwise never had an issue like this been eating there long time ill go back.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I come from China, the dishes here are really really unpalatable, in China, we don't eat food like that...
google avatar

Jodie E.

Yelp
After all the reviews about the cashew chicken, I thought this would be amazing. Well it didn't quite hit that level for me. I actually thought it was okay and was bland but with a little salt and pepper it was pretty good. The crab rangoon was good and their sweet and sour sauce was great. The prices, portions and service are what pushed me to give 4 and not 3 stars. We got the cashew chicken for two that came with two portions each of chicken and fried rice and 6 crab rangoons all for under $10.
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
I live in St Louis but went to school in Springfield. When I come back, I have to get Cashew Chicken, and Hong Kong Inn is my favorite place. Everyone has his own favorite. I think the food here is very good, and the restaurant is very clean and convenient.
google avatar

Carolynn E.

Yelp
Thursday night at my mothers house is "cheap chinese' night. Dinner for 2 with an extra order or crab rangoons (and sometimes a child's order of cashew chicken if I invite myself over) is more than enough to feed 3 adults and it doesn't hurt the purse strings.
google avatar

L L.

Yelp
5 stars for the big cashew! I grew up on Springfield and still get all warm and fuzzy for Springfield-style cashew chicken (at least, since I rediscovered it last year). Hit up the drive-thru at Hong King in and enjoyed in no time! FYI, the lunch special for two (cashew, rice, and crab rangoon) is easily enough for 3-4 folks with reasonably demure appetites.
google avatar

Greg J.

Yelp
Was one of the few Chinese restaurants recommended to us in the Springfield area, but honestly feel like we made the wrong choice by even trying this one first. Definitely don't go here if you are expecting to get authentic tasting Chinese food, its more of an American spin off at best. Fried rice is just ok. I had the general tsos, though the chicken itself was good, the sauce was horrible. Gf had the chicken lo mein and said it was just ok, but we both agreed the crab was bland and unsatisfying. So basically if you're ok with an American knockoff give it a try if you feel the need, but if you want real Chinese food, look elsewhere.
