Hoodoo Ice Cream

Hoodoo Icecream is delicious! The young ladies who work there are efficient and polite. The reason for the three stars is because the place needs to be cleaned and fixed up. The front window and door area looks like these are rarely cleaned. The booths are uncomfortable and need to be cleaned more often between customers. When we went there on Friday night, there was a man (manager?) standing near the waffle maker in the serving area, talking to an employee who kept running his hand through his hair. The small bathroom also needs to be checked, cleaned, and the trash emptied more often. The place looks like there is no pride of ownership.

On Sunday, September 14, at 3:05 PM, I arrived and saw a sign that read, “On Lunch, Be Back in 20 Minutes.” I waited on the bench outside for 38 minutes, but no one returned to open the doors. There was no indication of when the sign was posted, so I had no idea how long the wait might be. During that time, three other families came for ice cream but also gave up and left. This isn’t the first time this has happened. A few weeks ago, I experienced the same issue and waited in my car for 25 minutes before giving up. It’s frustrating to repeatedly encounter unreliable hours, especially for a family-friendly business. I’d appreciate some clarity on the shop’s schedule or better communication about closures to prevent this in the future. Please address this to ensure customers aren’t left waiting.

Great place! I have a serious internal struggle that usually gets the best of me regarding the amazing ice cream in this place. The ice cream is hand crafted and made with love. Great ice cream, and a great vibe. Worth the ice cream headache.

WOW! Best. Ice. Cream. EVER! When you first walk in, you are greeted with the most amazing, delicious smell. The guy working was so cheerful and friendly that you couldn't help but smile and laugh along with him. The waffle cones are made right in front of you. So you'll get a fresh, warm, and crispy cone with your ice cream. Mmmm Mmm. It will most definitely spoil you with other ice creams! They have huge booths with some really cool artwork on the walls. You can eat inside or outside on their cute little patio chairs and tables.

Disappointed before we could even try it out. My child asked for ice cream the entire time we were watching the game today. Your google and sign on your window says you're open today 12-7pm. Went by at 3:15pm and you're closed. Little girl tears that could have been avoided if you posted appropriately.

Very cool place. I read the reviews that were negative. Some people are just ridiculous. This place has original flavors not your typical freezer burnt Baskin Robbins.

My mom, husband and I stopped in for a cool treat. They were out of bananas foster so I got a waffle cone of mint cacao. OMG! The best mint ice cream I have ever had, and the waffle cone, it was amazing! It has a slight taste of cinnamon. My mom had a scoop of butter pecan in a cup and raved about its taste. My husband got a banana split. They were out of vanilla, so he got strawberry, chocolate and cookies and cream. He enjoyed it. We will be back!

She argued with me when I asked for a cone that wasn't touched by her ungloved hands. Like, seriously, you're going to fully touch the part of the cone I plan to feed to my kids and then when I point it out and ask for a new one, refuse to give me a new cone? Yep, how dissatisfactory. I mean, there's a napkin on the cone, but that clearly was for show since she didn't bother using that to hold the cone with her unsanitary hands. My kids were with me, so I didn’t want to argue, let alone about sanitation with the employee, so I wound up paying for a cone my daughter couldn't eat. Perhaps some sanitation and basic customer service should be implemented since you are preparing food and touching food items people eat.

While looking at a curious airplane hanging in the window, I smelled something amazing baking. What was it? Cinnamon rolls? No!! It was their amazing in house made waffle cones. Ordered a scoop of homemade Creole Cream Cheese and a cone. So good! Best smelling ice cream shop ever!

We were looking for an ice cream spot for my husband bday and found this spot. The ice cream was pretty good. The strawberry was actually good bc it didn't have all the food coloring and you cam tell it's not commercial ice cream. The girl behind the counter was friendly and patient. There was nice booths in there, some really big for large parties...nice! The store was clean. They have HUGE waffle cones, if I wouldn't have just eaten, I would have gotten one Why did I give it a 3 star? When we satt down to eat our ice cream, we noticed all the pictures on the wall. All demon themed Hey, if you're into that, by all means go and enjoy. Me personally, I won't be back.

The ice cream was creamy, but I got the strawberry and it barely tasted like strawberries, was almost just vanilla ice cream. They were also out of several flavors as well as out of cones and the girl working was very short with us.

Worth the wait in line at any time. Freshest waffle cones and best tasting ice cream.

These guys have a great location in downtown Covington and their ice cream is very very good however, it is also very very expensive

Sweet ice cream shop for a fun treat after school, passing through town or just because. We were passing through town and stopping in to tell our cousins bye. They were out of the creole cream cheese .... Which we MUST COME BACK TO TRY.... But most everything else we had our eye on was available. Local flavor, sweet environment, and some fun product make this a must stop when in Covington. Since it is located on Colombia St there are many shops to walk and window shop as you enjoy this cool treat! Next time we visit hopefully the creole cream cheese will be available and we will also get some of that yummy vanilla sugar!

Nice place for some great ice cream and shakes. Fresh waffle cones are next level. A strawberry and chocolate shake is so tasty.

Im not a chocolate ice cream fan but my mom was craving one. Wao...wao...what an amazing chocolate ice cream..so creamy, rich and the warm cone with the most lovely flavor. The staff is so diligent and nice. Definitely...a 5 stars place

Ice cream wasn't alright, great location but "meh" ice cream. There is much better at other places. I don't recommend.

Delicious ice cream, friendly business, great atmosphere! Every time we visit family in Covington, we have to stop and get some of this ice cream. The flavors are awesome, prices are great, and they have good portion sizes.

A new but much-needed addition to the local food scene, this ice cream parlor offers a nice mix of regular and rotating flavors. I eschewed their regular mint chocolate flavor and instead went for mint chocolate with green tea. This sounded ridiculous, but an assurance that the tea flavor wasn't overwhelming (usually green tea ice cream is pretty strong) and a sample spoon convinced me otherwise. I also got a bananas foster flavor, and the carmelized banana pieces within complemented the flavor infusion into the cream itself. The ice cream was a hard texture, and perhaps not quite as smooth and creamy as I'd like, but I was quite happy that they offered both classic and experimental flavors (as well as some dairy-free), and have a nice location with sizable booths to eat inside or a small town neighborhood to walk around with your ice cream.

Tiny portion - double scoop served as a single scoop in a small cup. Seemed like a scam. Icy, thin milky grainy texture ice cream. I'm not sure who would enjoy this. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down. Bummer.

I went the other day with my friend. They were out of quite a few flavors because of the Christmas parade, but I still got the flavor I wanted to try: cookies and cream. Something about it tasted different than I am used to, but the strangeness eventually faded as I took more bites. It was okay ice cream. I liked the art hanging on the walls and the staff was nice.

DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS! The ice cream was decent but there's a bunch of SATANIC imagery all over the walls inside. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Pentagrams, Devil pictures, tarot. Just why? We're not going back...

OH EMM GEE!!!! Tried Hoo Doo for the first time today. People, it is beyond superb!!! Got a strawberry and chocolate with cones to go as a surprise for the wifey and hands down this is the BEST ice cream ai have ever had. The strawberry is not pink; its natural color cream with genuine fresh strawberry and I can say as a lifelong chocolate freak that this was the best chocolate ice cream I have ever had and Im an old guy, like 66 yo. The cones were perfection, crunchy, buttery and well, just heaven. I travel this nation on biz and I say we have a gem of an ice cream parlor right here in old COV. Support your local biz. We came here late in the evening after a long day. The ice cream here is decent, but nothing to write home about. The cones are fresh made and tasty. The ice cream is on the fatty side and it's very creamy. The environment is spacious. The tables are extremely sticky and messy though. They have limited flavors and some run out quickly, so make sure you visit before the dessert rush!

The best Icecream on the Northshore. Banana's foster in a cone is our absolute favorite. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Hoodoo Ice Cream is the best! They have classic and original flavors. I have tried several different ones, and they are all delicious! The cone is made in-house, and it AMAZING! Get the cone...you won't regret it!

It was okay. I tried the peach bourbon habanero which was a fun try. It wasn't really flavorful honestly like not much of a peach or bourbon flavor to my disappointment but an interesting experience and nice texture. My friend got the blueberry pie special which was a bit icey but enjoyed the freshly made waffle cone. The standard flavors they have are limited and seem normal/boring but we liked the interesting special offerings. We weren't really compelled to revisit but I appreciate a local ice cream shop in downtown Covington area. I personally thought it was a bit overpriced and wished you could actually see all the flavors in their tubs but they're covered by metal coverings but all in all it was a fun try.

Very cute local farm to table ice cream place (the photo of one of their dairy cows is in a fake window inside). The ice cream flavors are classic and simple, and they taste great-- not too sweet! The best way to describe is that it tastes...real. And the waffle cones are made on the spot, which is always great. There is really incredible carnival-style art on the walls for decoration and sale sponsored by the Saladino gallery just down the street. Really great local business!!

Wasn't impressed at all. I've heard so many great things about this little local ice cream shop, and even seeing the other many great reviews, I assumed that I'd be blown away.. but unfortunately it was the complete opposite. The flavors were okay, actually pretty good.. but I could not get past the texture. It was more of a milky slushy consistency, I personally prefer creamy, silky ice cream. This just didn't do it for me. I also was really uncomfortable with the way they hide the ice cream underneath metal lids, it's part of the experience for me to be able to see everything easily.

I had a scoop of creole cream cheese ice cream. Flavor was delicious. So glad I got the cone. It's the best I've ever had. I'll be back.

Went here for mid afternoon ice cream on a warm sunny afternoon with a coworker. Immediately, the smell of dairy encompassed us, which is a good sign for an ice cream place. I ordered the coffee ice cream, which I got in waffle cone that I could see them making behind the counter with legitimate waffle irons. The warm fresh waffle cone with the handmade ice-cream was a wonderful pairing. I will certainly come again!

Awesome ice cream and staff!! When you walk in the guys really make you feel at home, letting you sample anything you want. The homemade waffle cones are very good and the orange choc chip is my favorite. You have to try this place if you are on the Northshore area.

Even if this place has good ice cream, their Facebook is never correct, they're never open, and in such a hard place to get to! They may have good ice cream and good ingredients but they need to work on their customer service.

Delicious ice cream and waffle cones. Today I tried the Strawberry Cream Cheese. Very good. This is the kind of special treat that I don't mind the calories.
