Planned Sidewalk Expansion Makes Hollywood Dining More Al Fresco-Friendly | Eater LA

"I observed that Santa Barbara’s Hook & Press Donuts contributed its old-fashioned lemon-glazed donuts to a McConnell’s collaboration that became a blueberries and lemon glazed donuts ice cream flavor." - Mona Holmes

Hook & Press - Review - Santa Barbara - Santa Barbara - The Infatuation

"If you love doughnuts (or even remotely like them), you'll have a field day at Hook & Press. This gourmet doughnut shop in Downtown Santa Barbara offers all kinds of creative—and incredibly delicious—flavors you won't find elsewhere, like tart lemon lavender poppy seed, spicy mango margarita with citrus-tequila glaze, and caramel latte stuffed with a coffee creme that tastes identical to a frappuccino. If you don't have much of a sweet tooth, order the everything bagel doughnut that's coated with savory seasoning and filled with whipped cream cheese." - Sylvio Martins

Google
We tried Hook & Press based on our hotel's recommendation. The bakery is very large with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We got the brown butter and Grinch donuts (pistachio glaze and cardamom pastry cream) and an egg nog latte and peanut butter cup latte. Between the donuts, the Grinch was my favorite. The flavor in the brown butter was too subtle for me. Pistachio and cardamom really came through on the Grinch donut. The donuts were not as soft and fluffy as I would have expected but I wonder if that is due to us coming later in the day - around 12:30 pm. However, we both really enjoyed our lattes. I would come back for the peanut butter cup latte and give the donuts another shot if it was closer to opening time.

YUM! Recommended by a local - best donut of my life, mouth watering sausage/egg/cheese/biscuit and two delicious lattes! 10/10! Staff was so kind and friendly. Checkout the wild bathroom wallpaper if you like donuts, drinking, and kittens.

Hook and Press is fantastic! They catered an event for us with about 100 people and they were such a hit! Everyone loved the donuts. The owner, John, is so friendly and generous. We enjoyed having them at our event and also enjoy visiting their restaurant. What a great Santa Barbara spot!

If you love donuts, you need to try these unique flavors at Hook & Press. Very seasonal flavors right now! Delightful! 🍩

Google
I came here thinking the donuts were the star of the show. I couldn't have expected the glamorous look of the donut to be overshadowed by the fact they had the same quality / texture / flavor of a Safeway donut. What WAS in fact, worth the price, was the breakfast sandwich I had. It blew me away! The biscuit it was served on was the perfect texture. The egg wasn't dry as one would typically expect from a sandwich at that price. The goat cheese was melty, the bacon jam was flavorful, and the arugula was the neat little bow on top that tied it all together. If you're bringing kids, the donuts are probably the way to go for them. If you want to enjoy your breakfast, skip the tantalizing aesthetic of the donut and go straight for their sandwiches. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Google
The unique flavored fancy donuts are on the heavier side but they are delicious. The breakfast sandwiches are equally tasty and a little bit messy to eat. The service was good. It feels a bit cramped in the dining area when it’s full of people and the tables are a bit small when you have four people.

Google
We came here because we were discussing locan spots to eat and a local stopped us and said Hook & Press has amazing donuts. Now thats advertising! Beautiful and spacious, but most importantly, delicious. I had the Cookie Monster and Lemon Berry Old Fashioned donuts! They were excellent.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Back in LA and STILL thinking of that Everything Bagel donut!! A must stop when you are in SB! DOGS ALLOWED: Yes! Patio seating, but they also allowed dogs inside. AMBIANCE: Noise level is average. Cute aesthetics with the color scheme, decor, and plants! ORDERED: [5/5] Everything Bagel: cream cheese filled and sOoOoOo yummy!!! Who doesn't like a lil savory and sweet treat?!? [4/5] P.O.G.: Passionfruit Orange Guava with guava filling. This was good! Just a tad bit sweet for me. [3/5] Iced Horchata Latte: extremely sweet, and I opted for no vanilla cold foam. I had to add a shot of espresso to help balance the sweetness. But even then, it was too sweet to drink. [5/5] Drip Coffee: simple and good. SERVICE: Service was great! Staff were very friendly. PRICE: ~ $5/donut and $5/drinks PARKING: Located in the La Arcada Plaza (downtown SB). There is street parking and a paid parking structure next door. Food: 5/5 stars Service: 5/5 stars Venue: 5/5 stars

Yelp
tl;dr the delicious upscale donuts are worth the premium price; the hardest part is settling on just a few flavors Santa Barbara may not have the same rabid donut obsession as Los Angeles, but that hasn't stopped Hook & Press Donuts from being a Central Coast favorite. This bakery-cafe is best known for its rotating lineup of sophisticated, made-from-scratch donut offerings. It has been rated the Best Donut Shop in Santa Barbara by the Santa Barbara Independent's Annual Readers' Poll since 2019, and it's included in Food Network's list of Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara. Hook & Press is located at the tip of an artsy alley just off State St. The off-white walls are decorated with abstract-minimalist murals. Industrial-chic accents include the wide-pane windows, polished concrete floors, and pockets of exposed brick. Load-supporting columns reach up to the soaring slate-toned ceilings. A carefully manicured rainbow of donuts is displayed to the right. To the left, upscale patio furniture separates the kitchen from the coffee bar. Beach-y contemporary tunes echo around the space. My partner and I visited late on a weekend morning, and nearly every table was occupied. The line stretched to the door, but the staff members efficiently whipped through orders. We opted to share two donuts: the Everything Bagel and the Passionfruit Orange Guava. The former masterfully resembled an upscale everything bagel in its savory-salty flavor; the light, buttery donut was an otherwise ambitious twist. The latter paired a tart, unmistakably passionfruit-y frosting with a custardy, pastelito-esque filling. Our bill totalled just under $10, but the flavors were spot-on, and portion sizes felt generous. I can see why Hook & Press is a local favorite, and I definitely would be game to work my way through their donut lineup in the future.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and was excited to try it. The space is tucked away with beautiful lighting and the feeling is almost airy--which was very nice. The setup is kind of confusing--you have a doughnut bar on one side, barista bar on the opposite side of the space, and you have to guess where to go to order. The staff was very nice and helpful. For the doughnuts: I was really excited to try them, and wasn't as impressed as the hype I've heard. The texture on the cake was very good, moist, not dense. The yeast had some good fluff, not too chewy, not too airy. But the sweetness level was pretty, my young kids couldn't even finish the pieces we cut for them. The Thai tea was an overall favorite, aside from the sweetness. Pecan pie--way too sweet, the best part was the pie crust addition. The apple cider was WAY too apple cider vinegar forward. It tasted like a shot of ACV, we really didn't like that one. The pumpkin s'mores was really good, again, just very sweet. Overall not a bad experience, but not a great one. Glad to say we tried it, but don't think we would make this a staple in our lives. And that's just our opinion, try them out yourselves and see if it's something you like. Just because we didn't t, doesn't mean they're not good. It just wasn't for us.

Yelp
When I come to Santa Barbara and want to eat donuts, I come here. The last time I came, it was late, and there weren't many donuts left, so there weren't many options. However, this time I went a little earlier, so there were a lot more to choose from. What caught my eye this time was the Pistachio Latte and the Vegan Mango Dragon Fruit Donut. The pistachio latte was so good; it's not too sweet, which is perfect for me because I don't like overly sweet drinks. The Vegan Mango Dragon Fruit Donut also tasted good! It has a fruity and refreshing taste, is light and not too sweet, and can be eaten in a flash. When it first opened, it wasn't very well known, but now it has become the leading donut shop on State Street and is frequented by many people. The outdoor seating is a pleasant space when the weather is nice. There are many people with dogs in this area, so the outdoor seating is a welcome addition. There is no parking available, so you can either park on the street or I can park in a public parking lot and walk. The service was good and friendly.

Yelp
Definitely worth a visit in Santa Barbara. Not the full bakery/donut shop i expected, but a great hole in the wall breakfast spot. Indoor and patio seating allows for the enjoyment of the morning california sun. They have a limited selection of dairy free donuts, and they sell out really early. The egg & bacon breakfast sandwich on a toasted glazed donut was very tasty, and fortunately not as sweet as it sounds. The service was good considering the volume of customers they had.

Yelp
Cute cute spot! The donuts are soft and tasty. First donut we tried was the vanilla bean sprinkle and it did not taste plain at all. The ricotta scramble tartine was a standout with the fluffy scrambled eggs with ricotta topped with Parmesan and chili salt over toasted bread. Chef's kiss! Coffee is smooth, golden milk latte has great turmeric and ginger flavor. Service is friendly. Patio has umbrellas and an awning for shade and is dog friendly. We also bought a dog donut for our pup and she loved playing with it. She's a picky eater so I wouldn't take her opinion seriously.

Yelp
Vegan donut choices limited to two, but delicious! The Houseplant (vegan) breakfast sandwich was very tasty. They also have alternative milk options for coffee.

Yelp
Love the food and ambiance here. It's a pretty hype place and there was a line of about 10 people when we arrived on a Saturday around 10:30am. The service was friendly. We had a somewhat larger order for 2 people and food was served in a reasonable time. I loved the donuts and their brunch items. A little pricey, but reasonable. I loved the Browned Butter and Vegan Mango Dragonfruit donuts. The Houseplant: 4/5 (small portion) Ricotta Scramble: 4/5 Biscuits and Gravy: 4.5/5 Big Sur Drink: 4/5 Everything Bagel: 4/5 Browned Butter: 4.5/5 Vegan Mango Dragonfruit: 4.5/5

Yelp
I really wanted to stop in Hook and Press Donuts. I was back in town for work and I haven't been back for a while and I saw that I've never been here before. The pictures looked amazing and I had to stop in. The flavors that they had was a lavender lemonade, maple bacon, there's even a dole whip flavor. It's hard to decide on what to get here. I was lucky enough to find street parking nearby and that was plenty of time to run and get a couple of donuts and leave just in time. It was awesome and I'll definitely be back for the different flavors that they had here. It was a quick and easy process and the team here was really nice.

Yelp
Cute cafe tucked off of State St. I tried the passion fruit donut and the rainbow one. The passion fruit flavor is intense it tastes like you're eating the actual fruit. The donuts are a great texture and not airy. They have a nice patio for a good chat.

Yelp
I've been to hook and press to be a lookie loo a few times but today I was committed to actually buying something! Lol. My friends know I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so when I've come in before I've just admired the donuts from afar and purchased drinks. However today I was wanting to reward myself for a weekend of fitness activities and a beautiful donut from hook and press seemed like the best way to do it. My friend and I came in at 1:30pm which was pretty good timing as there was no line for the donuts. The selection of donuts was still plentiful and we looked around. I ended up ordering a few strawberry matcha donuts and their key lim pie donut. Honestly it's always so hard to choose what to get because everything here looks amazing. I found that the prices seemed actually pretty reasonable for how unique and gourmet these donuts are, not a bad deal. I also appreciate that they have a clear menu behind the counter on pricing and drinks. When you order at the donut counter you do pickup your drinks across the room at a different counter which made sense so that everyone isn't crowding around the most busy counter. Smart. Shout out to the staff Katie for being an absolute gem. She was so patient and helpful as I picked out my donuts and drinks. I really appreciated that she was kind and didn't give me any pushback when I asked for my donuts individually boxed as I was giving out some as gifts. She was just lovely and provided A+ customer experience. Will lookout for her again next time I come for sure! Thanks Katie :) Overall I loved my drink and donuts, scoring below: 4/5 stars: Key Lime Pie Donut - visually stunning and surprisingly mild in flavor. The key like cream center was delicious and the outside frosting wasn't overdone. A good pick. 5/5 stars: Strawberry Matcha Donut - my favorite for sure! I'm a sucker for anything strawberry matcha and they don't disappoint here. Loved the custard matcha filling, heavenly and I'll definitely always get this one when they have it. 5/5 stars: Tropical Ombré Lemonade - yes yes yes! Always get this! As someone who doesn't love coffee I can always appreciate an effort made forwards a fun and unique drink. When I read ombré lemonade I knew I was sold and Katie assured me it would be pretty, and that it was! Can't go wrong with a lemonade tea combo and of course it was refreshing and tasty. A little sweet which I loved and just what I needed on this hot Santa Barbara day.

Yelp
The best donut i have ever have. Would not have thought i will find such an amazing donut store in santa barbara. No offense. Parking: mostly a quick 15 min street parking, unless you park further out few blocks, you can get a 75min parking. Fyi, they closed on Monday. Store vibe is so cali. Love it. We ordered: POG passion fruit, orange, guava - very refreshing, real flavours. Lavander Honey Cake- love it. Lemon Berry Old fashioned - doughnut is not too dry, perfectly moist Maple bacon - soft, chewy and not too airy. All the doughnuts are very good. The flavours are really shined through your taste buds. I wish I can eat more. And we also got: Horchata latte Rose latte Blackberry cream top matcha Matcha Drink are overall ok. They have some breakfast items too, and merchandise for you to buy. Restroom: 1 gender neutral restroom Seating: indoor and outside patio. You can order via qr code too.

Yelp
I put in an online order and when I arrived there were about 6 people eying the donut cases. My box was ready to go with a Mocha, Key Lime and Nutter Butter cupcakes. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside and enjoyed the donuts. I even debated getting one for the ride home. My favorite was the Mocha donut because it was sweet but not over powering, and the mocha flavor was nice but it was the density and fluff of the dough that was perfect. Second favorite was the Key Lime. The middle gave that tangy key lime flavor. Last was the Nutter Butter because the dough was dense, even for a cake donut, and overly sweet. I will be back ;) The bathroom was clean and fresh which I think speaks to the staff and standards. Pro tip: Order ahead so you don't miss out on the ones you want before they are gone.

Yelp
Anytime the office has donuts, my face lights up; but when they say they're from Hook and Press , I become even more ecstatic The inside is very cozy and chic - lots of plants, natural light, and white seats. There's so many options for donuts and coffee, and as a Filipino, I love that there is always an Ube donut option. This time, I tried the Strawberry Matcha, Lavender Honey Cake, and Everything Bagel donuts. Everything Bagel was a tasty savory and basically was like a soft version of a bagel with cream cheese filling. The honey cake was more dense and I enjoyed the buttercream but the strawberry matcha takes the cake. Everyone who works there is very warm and chipper. I liked that the staff would even take my plate from me when I was cleaning up. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely adorable! The decor is so fun and whimsical. I ate outside on the patio and was able to enjoy the morning sun. The donut options are insane!! The unique flavors and designs of the donuts is incredible. I ordered the blueberry pancake old fashioned donut and I was blown away by how fresh it tasted and the flavor was sweet and light. I highly recommend this place! I plan on going back tomorrow to try more flavors! Servers were kind and helpful.

Yelp
Best donuts I have ever had. The owner is super nice and very passionate which comes through in all the unique flavors and execution. There is so much love and great vibes at this place. They also have fantastic coffee and tea (love that they use Art of Tea) I only wish they had tea refills;) The location is really nice too...plus they are big time animal lovers, adopting an abandoned turtle who is now part of their family:) so sweet! All around A+ spot.

Yelp
Great donuts that are super high quality. One thing I can appreciate about this shop is the wide variety of flavors they have available. There is something to satisfy any audience! The donuts I got were brioche based, which provided a nice chewy texture to each bite. The donuts on their own were not too sweet, so whatever they were topped with was the star of the show! I picked up a Too Good To Go box from them recently that had 6 donuts for $10. The girl who helped us out was really nice and our order was given to us quickly. We got 3 different varieties (2 donuts each). Strawberry chocolate, browned butter, and rainbow! All super good! Hook and Press is a super cute, modern take on your classic donut shop. If you're looking for a place to get a sweet treat, check it out! Only reason I give this a 4 rather than a 5 is because pricing is a bit steep compared to other shops. However, you pay for what you get and the quality is deserving! Delicious!

Yelp
We came right when they opened early morning, they change their menu every month and we came during the summer to find an array of donuts ready to be consumed by this family of four. This is our second time coming her and we have to stop here before heading to our next destination. If you like sidecar doughnuts, JD flannel, or Oliboli from Orange County this compares if not even higher because they sell breakfast sandwiches as well. We bought merch this time around so we love supporting them from OC. Their service is impeccable. Everyone is happy and ready to serve!

Yelp
Always love it when I have a chance to stop at hook and press and this time I remembered to place a pre order so the donuts I wanted didnt sell out. It happened to be friday so I was able to try a fritter this time! The eveything bagel donut is hands down one of my favorite savory baked goods around. I opted to try their drink special, the blackberry matcha latte with blackberry cold foam and it was soooo good! I had never been out on the patio before and was surprised to see a lovely little koi pond/fountain

Dave S.

Yelp
Over rated over priced Ellers is way better. I think people think because a donut costs $5 or more that it is going to be good. Not true, simple is better. The Helms bakery truck that came through my neighborhood when I was a kid was simple, fresh and good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great donuts, coffee, and food alert baby. They have a nice variety of creative donut flavors. So we had a few of them thangs. They also have several savory non desert options. I got that avocado toast, fire. Full coffee bar as well. Inside and outside seating. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Such a cute and yummy start to the day! I had the ricotta and egg scramble on toast (which was fantastic), an iced dirty chai latte, and their chocolate sprinkle doughnut. This place is pretty big with indoor and outdoor seating and I love the light & airy decor. I got there right before the big rush on a Saturday, but didn't wait too long in line. Will keep this on my Santa Barbara list!
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
Such a cute spot for donuts and coffee! We've never had a bad experience and every donut we've tried has been delicious. Most recent visit was on a Friday afternoon around 2:30, so selection was limited but we still got some great flavors. We tried the lavender lemon, the nutter butter and a lemon blueberry - all old fashion style. Definitely recommend coming early for the biggest selection.
google avatar

Yelp
The perfect breakfast spot for a day in Santa Barbara. Located in vibrant alleyway right off state street hook and press is serving some great breakfast bites. We got the turkey sausage egg sandwich with a hashbrown style bun and it was incredible. The turkey sausage tasted fresh and had a great flavor while the hashbrown bun made this a top tier sandwich. We also got the pumpkin spiced latte and a pumpkin s'mores bagel. Both were very well made. I highly recommend trying hook and press. Everything they have is fantastic!

Kelly C.

Yelp
Flavorful donuts that didn't feel overly sugary but hit the sweet spot! Egg Sandy was delicious and fresh. Friendly staff, quiet atmosphere. Would absolutely come back!

Yelp
This is the first time I went to Hook and Press Donuts since they moved. I ordered my donut online and was very excited to check out the new location. The indoor seating is very cute and would be a lovely place for a snack. The pick up area was easy to find. The staff was nice and polite. I had a pistachio donut and it was so light and fluffy and I loved the small piece of pistachio bark on top. Yum!

Yelp
I literally just came for the biscuit and jam. This café is so modern. I really enjoyed everything about it, from the seating to the plants. From the very first moment we walked in, I knew this was the place to be. The cashiers quickly took orders, and there was a line out the door. I ended up getting the biscuit with jam, which was delicious--crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the jam was pretty tasty. The doughnut was soft and delicious. I will definitely be back to try more menu items.

Yelp
Love their donuts, food and coffee, it's all good!! What I love most about the donuts is that they're not too sweet. They have a good balance of flavor and custard but not overly greasy or sweet. Passion fruit is one of my favs. The service is always good and the restaurant itself is SUPER cute! Lovely location and beautiful decor.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot to grab vegan donuts, made fresh daily. They run out by noon, so go early! While my husband raved about the sweet goodies, I tried savory - a small side salad and an everything bagel style savory donut. Loveddd the cream cheese filling. Cute interiors and friendly staff. Has outdoor patio for dining with your pet friends :)

Yelp
oh my goodness! when i tell you this is the best donut i've ever had im not kidding. got the lemon berry old fashioned and it was perfectly sweet, had the best consistency of an old fashioned donut. tried the rest of the donuts pictured and each and every one was so good. only thing is the drinks was kind of a miss.

Yelp
"Remember that night I found you at Dinky Donuts? You were all hopped up on cinnamon swirls! They wouldn't serve you anymore!" - Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld da Scene: visiting my God-daughter attending UCSB and hit this spot a couple times, Really good stuff. On the way outta town, placed a pickup order for the road. Breakfast sammies, Donuts, and coffee's for 3. da Grub: High quality, well executed and thoughtful flavors throughout. BEC's were well balanced and the baked egg held together, up to the last bite. The avacado tartine stole the show, BUCKLE YOUR KNEES GOOD. Lattes (Rose Mylk and Lavender Honey) were delicate yet rich... my cold brew with extra shot kept me alert for the drive. We did the 3 get one free on the donuts; they missed the Boston Cream Pie... but the other 3 were YUM, as were the donut holes. da Service: Ordering on the site was very easy, and it allows many customizations. Pickup time and street parking was a snap. Exchanged txt messages with customer service about missing items and they made good right there on the spot. Kudos to management for leading a great team! Run, don't walk for breakfast! Well, WALK - as it's a great State Street stroll.

Yelp
Have had Hook and Press many times via work colleagues and friends but it's time to make my way in! What better day than National Donut Day! Such a cute spot, lots of seating both indoors and outdoors with friendly staff! Trust me, you will get overwhelmed by the flavors because they all look good and they are GOOD! Purchased a half dozen and my favorites by far were the Chocolate Coffee Crumb and the Smoreo. All of the donuts were delicious as I can see why Hook and Press will always be a beloved Santa Barbara staple!

Very bready and thick just not my type of donut. They look cute though and the flavors are fun and interesting.

Yelp
Super obviously popular spot to grab a coffee or sweet treat while you're Downtown. They change out their specialty donuts regularly but on this particular visit I got the Cherry Cheesecake Donut and it was wonderful. There might be a like but it goes quickly as you get to view the array of sweets then choose, pay and go! The staff quickly grabs your sweet of choice and you're good to go.

Yelp
It's a good quick stop for a sugary treat, had better donuts, but no complaints, it's pretty good and fresh.

Yelp
Love this place , good customer service, their brioche donuts are the best , always creative , flavorful and beautiful. Extra points for the dog donuts they sell

Yelp
This was a lovely find while strolling downtown. There are a great variety of donuts, coffees, teas and sandwiches to try. It can get a little busy here so be prepared to hunt for a table and wait some time for your orders to come out. Staff was friendly and there's great ambiance here too.

Yelp
Amazing. What a great little gem of Santa Barbara. It's right off the main street in a cute little alleyway of restaurants & shops. They have donuts as well as a small breakfast menu along with a coffee bar. They had 2 vegan donut options when I went, I believe they change those out seasonally. The vegan apple pie donut was to die for. Real apples inside a perfectly fluffy donut shell, coated in a delicious cinnamon sugar covering. I wish I lived closer so that I could come regularly! They have plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor.

Yelp
While walking around downtown after strolling through the farmer's market, I wanted to grab a coffee, and this place looked quite inviting. It had a solid-looking donut display, and I thought, why not give it a try? They had quite a few donut choices and I asked the staff member at the station what their recommendation was and ended up with the Cinnamon Crumb. As for drinks, I ended up getting a cappuccino to enjoy with my donut. The coffee was okay, nothing too special, but it did the trick for my caffeine fix. The donut was pretty good and definitely had the cinnamon flavor and crunch I was expecting. It was also a nice experience to sit outside on their patio to enjoy our treat and coffee.

Rating is only for a single drink! I got the passionfruit jasmine tea earlier this year on a trip to SB and I LOVED IT! Refreshing and flavorful. But I recently returned this past week and the tea was extremely bitter and over steeped. It was so hard to swallow even after a full sugar bag added. I've tried many bitter teas in my life from restaurants and cafes as well so understand there are off days but this was really bad this time. Please double check the brewing time! Staff was nice and friendly full 5 stars there. Food looked awesome and plenty of seating.

Yelp
Super cute! Latte and buttermilk biscuit with whipped butter and jam was divine. I do wish the staff bused the tables. I love they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Tall ceiling s make this place airy. Donuts were beautiful!

Yelp
Came here after finding it on TikTok & it is def worthy of a visit! I had the golden mylk latte, which was so creamy & flavorful. I also had the bacon, egg & cheese and it was sooo good! The buns and egg were sooo fluffy, the bacon was crispy & the cheese & sauce were soft & flavorful. I also tried the potato waffle & omg it is a must! So flavorful & the tangy yogurt is such a good contrast and helps with balance. I also got the habanero strawberry donut & it was delish. Sweet & spicy but not too spicy, more like candy spicy. Their bathroom was clean & so cute with cat wallpaper. The overall environment in this shop is super cute. The only reason I knocked it down a star is that their lounge sofa was sooo dirty & was a big eyesore because of that. Otherwise, great & will def be back when I'm in SB again.

Yelp
donuts and sandwiches are so yummy and flavors are unique. they switch up the donuts flavors, but no matter what they are offering that week, they're delicious. the breakfast sandwiches are really unique because they take the classics like bacon, egg, and cheese, but add to it to create a unique flavor profile. if they weren't so pricey they would be rated higher.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place but was so disappointed. Not many options by the time we got there. Went on the recommendation of the cashier and got the strawberry lemonade donut. Flavor was fine but the texture of the donut was so gummy, I threw half of it away. The space is super cute and has plenty of tables to sit and enjoy. I would consider trying another donut next time I'm in town but this experience was sadly not what I expected.

Yelp
They lineup before opening, I suggest you do the same. Lines move fast and they have a large variety available. Very unique offering such as an everything bagel donut. We tried a variety of them and they were all delicious. High quality ingredients, beautifully presented. They have coffee and other snacks available as well, nicely spread out so you lineup for whatever you are ordering. The best donuts in Santa Barbara!

Yelp
Came here looking for a place to study but also wanted a bite to eat. I got the Bacon & egg brioche sandwich, it was delicious! Very unique taste, it was very flavorful. I think the mustard sauce MADE that sandwich, and it was not over powering at all. Service was very simple &sweet. Very chill place, nice inside and outside seating. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The service could have been terrible (it wasn't) and the ambiance could have been drab (certainly not), and I still would give Hook and Press 5/5 simply for their sausage, egg, and cheese on a buttermilk biscuit. Every single component is made in house, including the turkey sausage. So. Freaking. Good. Not to mention the interior is bright and clean with helpful, patient, and attentive staff. We couldn't decide on which breakfast items to order and needless to say their recommendations hit. My friend loved her Hummus Tartine, but I was too busy marveling at my layered sandwich to taste a bite. First the biscuit itself, exactly as it should be - layered, buttery, slightly salty, warm and not too dense. The sizzling turkey sausage patty was the next item of awe, with a punch of fresh herbs (sage?) and perfect texture, it really delivered. Finally, I'm a sucker for any sauce and this herby avocado mayo did something for me, so rich and creamy, cutting through the already delightful biscuit and sausage patty flavors. The jack cheese was perfectly melty and the egg perfectly fried. What more could you want? Try this!!!! P.S. Their donut selection also looked heavenly!
