HopCat, the Michigan beer bar chain, has closed its Chicago location - Eater Chicago
"HopCat, a quirky bar for craft beer in Lincoln Park, has closed. The Michigan chain opened its one and only Chicago location in September 2016. The company invested heavily in the Chicago space at the T-intersection of Clark and Wrightwood. The design was inspired by a bar from the ‘90s movie, Jackie Brown. HopCat hosted craft beer events and brought fancy brews to an area known for college sports bars. The bar was also known for its fries, which recently went through a name change from 'Crack Fries' to 'Cosmik Fries'." - Ashok Selvam
Dos Toros Taqueria Opens in Chicago’s John Hancock Center - Eater Chicago
"Popular Michigan-based craft beer bar and restaurant chain Hopcat, which has one Chicago location in Lincoln Park, will change the name of its hugely popular 'crack fries' in January." - Daniel Gerzina
12 Gooey and Crunchy Cheese Curds That Make Chicago Feel Like Wisconsin - Eater Chicago
"Chicago’s location of the Michigan beer bar with a huge selection of brews serves cheese curds to keep the liquid flowing. The dish ‘Curd Your Enthusiasm’ offers battered Wisconsin cheese curds with avocado-ranch dressing for a more traditional take on the cheesy bites. But what they excel at is being fuel for a night of imbibing." - Elizabeth Atkinson
The food was really good! The crack fries are a necessity! They have a huge beer menu with something for everybody. We did order one mixed drink from the bar that was much stronger than expected! The only thing I disliked was the lighting (as you can see from the photos)...not exactly easy on the eyes. But regardless! I'll return for those crack fries!

We stopped by for dinner on New Year's Eve and the food was fantastic. I really enjoyed the BBQ pulled pork and their crack fries are just that (addicting). I don't normally finish my entire meal but they gave me the perfect amount of food.

Overall good experience here! Great place to come with friends or family when you're looking to hang out a bit and are not in a rush. Our waitress was super friendly and awesome, but the service was a bit slow.
I ordered one of the CYO pizzas and the crack fries. Both were very good! Would definitely come again just for the fries and the cheese sauce. They also have a huge beer selection, which was cool.

So many beers! And great pub food to go with it. And cool decor! You walk in to a German beer hall. If you keep walking, the bar wraps around and has awesome comfortable red chairs. Plenty of space. Windows that open wide.
The carpet is from Kubrick's 'The Shining,' which is way cool. A beer lover's dream.

Such a very cool bar with great decor, music, beer selection, even did, but the management is not so awesome. The guy who gave us a hard time did not know their happy hour and harassed is about wanting refills. What?? So weird. The staff here, other than management is really cool and helpful. To them well!

Great bar with tons of space and enough TVs to watch a game anywhere u sit. Lots of great beers on tap and the Crack fries are really good (but I think they're too expensive for just fries). The atmosphere is really nice during the summer when the windows open. Overall a good place to gather with friends.

My experience here was great. The food was delicious. Much better than the Hopcat I had been to in Grand Rapids, Mi. I don't know how it could have been such a difference, but this location got it right. I had the pulled pork and it was great. The sauce was so good. My husband had the tilapia sandwich. Everything was really great!

This will probably be a regular spot for me now. 130 beers on draft and good prices too! Hopcat serves a nice selection of comfort food as well. I had them combine the veggie Ruebin Kincade with the standard Ruebin Sandwich and it was delicious along with beer battered crack fries(yum).
This was a solo night for me to drink, read book and chat with random people and I was a happy camper. The service was great; I chatted with several different bartenders and people where open to conversation who sat at the bar.
You can come in here dressed up but I felt at home in shorts and a t-shirt as I was stopping by after work as I was biking north.
