Where to Eat the Best French Fries and Tater Tots in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"This Austin transplant is obviously known for its burgers, but the fries are worth equal fanfare. Cut in-house from Kennebec potatoes, go fancy with the Parmesan truffle fries (served with a side of truffle aioli for an extra pungent punch) or get sloppy with an order topped with cheese and chile con carne." - Amy McCarthy

18 Decadent Milkshakes To Try in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Hopdoddy’s menu of spike-able shakes are pretty rad. The secret, we’re told, is the vanilla-cinnamon ice cream base. Hopdoddy’s seasonal editions tends to grab the most attention, last fall a white chocolate cranberry made a perfect sweet-tart accompaniment." - Rachel Pinn

OK, I’m down in Dallas for a family reason and while I was here we came to our favorite place that we missed in Texas since we moved back to New York and it was absolute delicious! Truffle fries, on point, big Larry was on point and everything was amazing. The service was fantastic and the people were absolutely hospitable! If you’re ever in the area, be sure to stop by!

We ordered again from here for lunch to be delivered for 9 people. From order to delivery was within 30 minutes. Everything was packaged well, and all orders were correct, nothing missing or incorrect. This time I ordered the Goodnight/Good Cause. It was a great burger! Didn’t know what to expect from the caffeinated BBQ sauce, but it was great. Everyone enjoyed their lunch, and this time the fries arrived warm. We ordered from here today for lunch to be delivered for 5 people. Everything went smoothly with ordering and delivery. All orders were correct except 1 order was missing the drink. I ordered the classic, everything was fresh and tasted good. The burger was perfect, nice grill on the outside but still medium rare on the inside. The only thing was with the fries everyone got. Being delivered I know it will not be hot, sometimes warm if they are close, but these were really cold. I don’t mind fries being delivered a little cool since you’re not getting them for 15 to 20 minutes but these seemed like they were a lot older. Will order again, love the burgers, next time I should just through the fries in the air fryer and warm them up.

Google
I ordered the fries and only about half of them were fully cooked. Then my burger came and it was completely raw in the middle. The restaurant remade it and when the new one came back I can only describe it as vindictively salty. Just way saltier than the initial burger was and it was still raw in the middle. If you're looking for a spot to go for happy hour, there's far better deals at place that don't try to give you food poisoning then punish you for complaining.

Google
Haven't been to Hopdoddy in a while. They have some great salads now. Good burgers. Good fries. The Brussel sprouts were good as well. We had fantastic service. We were greeted by a very chipper door greeter who made sure we knew about the choices and how everything worked. She suggested two options for our group to sit together. Loved the salad and my burger was very tasty.

Google
You don’t often mention service at a burger bar but it was outstanding here. They helped us select dinner, checked up on us multiple times and cleared right away. Factor in amazing fresh hamburger and hot chicken sandwich and you have a 5 out of 5 spot. Will definitely be back to enjoy a beer as well next time.

This location of Hopdoddy Burger Bar sits right on the main road, and I lucked out with a parking spot right out front. Inside, the restaurant is clean, modern, and full of natural light thanks to the large windows that offer a great view of the trolley passing by and the lively pedestrian scene. I ordered the Mother Nature burger and it was absolutely delicious—cooked to perfection with a rich, savory flavor that really hit the spot. My date’s burger was missing a few items initially, but before we even had to say anything, the manager and our server were already on it. They were incredibly polite and quick to make it right, which really impressed us. We also met Mathew, the bartender, who was not only super knowledgeable but also quick with the drinks. Even as the bar started to get busier, he took the time to chat with us and make us feel welcome. Although the dining area was a bit slow at the time, it was clear the online orders were keeping the kitchen busy. We ordered two burgers, the garlic parmesan fries (a must-try), and had two beers each. The total came to just over $60, and it was well worth it for the quality of food and service. Overall, a great experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
If you’re looking for a top-notch burger experience in Dallas, Hopdoddy is a must-visit. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, with a modern yet cozy vibe perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. The service is fantastic, with friendly and attentive staff that make you feel right at home. One of the standout items on the menu is the Chile Fries with cheese sauce. The fries are perfectly crispy, golden, and seasoned just right. But it’s the cheese sauce that really takes it over the top—creamy, indulgent, and with just the right amount of heat to complement the fries without overwhelming them. It’s the perfect side dish to pair with any burger! Speaking of burgers, the Cadillac Wagyu Beef burger is an absolute treat. The beef is rich and flavorful, cooked to perfection, and topped with fresh, high-quality ingredients that elevate the whole experience. The Cadillac way is a delicious combination of flavors that will leave your taste buds craving more. Overall, Hopdoddy offers not only great food but an awesome environment and exceptional service. If you’re in Dallas, this is definitely a spot you’ll want to check out!

This is one of the best burger places in Dallas to me!The service is impeccable and it's always a chill atmosphere. BUT the fries had too much parmesan truffle on them

Yelp
Good food, friendly service, and a clean restaurant! Today we stopped at the Round Rock, Texas location, but were not able to eat because of a sudden area wide power outage. Thomas, the Manager, talked to every table to help his patron. We were in a hurry and could not wait for the power problem resolution. Thomas promised to refund us - & he did. He also gave us a gift card and an invite back another day. He was great! We will be back! I wish he was in charge of the power grid!

Yelp
Average burger spot! Service was quick and it has lots of TVs and seating for a potential game watching event. I got a goodnight burger ($11.50) and a basket of fries ($4.95) and it was good. My burger was lacking a lot of toppings/actual meat so It was pretty flat to be honest. Honestly not too special or worth inconveniencing yourself to get. I think the price was kind of high for the small portion, but the location is great and near a lot of bars in the area.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery. The Korean Seoul was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. That sauce was sublime. The crispy Brussel sprouts with Buffalo sauce, genius. Magic Shroom and classic were also delicious. Parmesan truffle fries were good, but not the best I've had, however the sauce they came with was out of this world. Portions on the sides were great for sharing.
google avatar

Caroline Z.

Yelp
Ahi Tuna Burger, Green Chili Queso Fries, Magic Shroom Burger My friend was in a burger mood and I wasn't so much, so I finally decided to try the ahi Tuna burger! This was surprisingly pretty great actually! Was fun to try. But I still will always prefer the magic shroom burger. The fries and queso were delicious

Yelp
For a Thursday night, it wasn't too busy. We sat inside but the smoke was a little too much and made it pretty hazy inside. Service was great, and everyone was very friendly. I got the classic burger with cheese and bacon and it was cooked perfectly. The fries were a little over salted, but great fries, overall. Wish I took a picture before digging it.
google avatar

Izzie P.

Yelp
Very quick service! Supper friendly staff and food is amazing as always!!! The truffle fries are to die for and a must get!
google avatar

Martha G.

Yelp
These burgers are so juicy and flavorful! I'm not a huge fan of burgers but this burger spot reawakened my interest. The service is friendly and the margaritas are strong. I definitely feel like I got my money's worth.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall the location had a very unique menu, since their focus was on burgers there were several on the menu and the option to create your very own burger. There were different grades of beef as well, I had the buffalo with blue cheese and their sauce. The employees were very lively and social, also gave good recommendations on options to choose from. The drinks were standard, sodas, juices, and there was a bar area with several selections. Definitely modern restaurant style, and fits into the energy in the surrounding area. I enjoyed my time here and fellowshipped with my fraternity brothers.

Yelp
The ambiance and cleanliness of this place is really subpar. Our table was filthy and we had to clear it to sit down. As was every table in here which you can see. It wasn't busy so there wasn't really a reason for this. The food was ok, it really wasn't like a top burger. The fries I could have gone without. Well, I did. I only ate a few. The burgers were tough and used sauce to cover up the actual lack of quality. The sauces ended up making the burgers really sloppy and hard to eat. Looks good in pictures but that's as far as it goes. The service was ok, our fries came out long before the burgers which was weird and it's a seat yourself kinda place. Our waitress who brought the food out was nice but also really struggling with her weight. As politely as possible when someone is breathing heavily over your food and sweating it's off putting. Overall not a bad stop, wasn't a place I'll be returning too. Maybe we arrived on a bad day. I just think the way you do anything is the way you do everything and with then very just ok burgers and disheveled setting. It's not worth a return visit.

Yelp
Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 5/10 You go for the food, to be full and to have immaculate flavors in your mouth! Never fails me!

Yelp
Ordered Hopdoddy on a whim last night via Uber eats. I originally wanted a burger but then decided to try their chicken strips. The chicken strips were spicy and delicious. Very juicy, not dry at all. I did ask for sauce with them but did not receive any in the bag. However, they were good dipped in the ketchup and the ranch. The parm truffle fries were pretty good. Lacked parm but the flavor was still there. fries were slightly crisp but soft on the inside which I loved. Definitely need to amp up the Parmesan though. My friend got the thunderbird sandwich minus the bacon and she said it was very good. Next time I will be trying one of the burgers to see how they compare to my usual burger spots. All in all a good spot for to end our year with. The chicken was very good and I will order it again for sure.

Yelp
This is the place you go to get some good gourmet burger. You still order at the counter, but they'll deliver your order to the table. Service is usually decent. It's not like a true sit down restaurant, but they'll check on you here and there. They have a bar in the middle, and overall pretty casual. The burgers are good and juicy! However, their recent creations are a hit or miss. I love their Mother Nature burger, but doddy melt was a bit dry. Not sure if they just had an off night. The regular burgers on the other hand are always good; I never had an issue with those. My favorite is good night good cause or the magic shroom. Their fries are usually good too, but I've had soggy fries before (tho uncommon). Their shakes are still good but I remember them used to be better. Overall, still one of my go to's for fancy burgers!

Yelp
Avoid this location at all cost!! Between my friends and I, we ordered burgers, parmesan truffle fries, and Little Larry margaritas. The food was great, but the service not so much. My friends and I were the only people in the restaurant besides the employees and what seemed to be the employees' friends/spouses close to closing time. As soon as we walked outside, I realized I accidentally left my phone on the table. Within minutes of walking outside and walking right back inside my phone was gone. All of the employees feigned ignorance and claimed not to see a phone on the table they just bused. Of course the manager claimed she did not have access to the cameras and suggested I contact corporate. After pleading with the employees, and the friends of the employees who were gleefully snickering while I begged for my phone back, I left without my phone. Unfortunately, the man I corresponded with from corporate was sympathetic, but he was unable to access the cameras at this location as well. Moral of the story: keep your items close because the cameras at this location are not functional. The employees are rude, the employees' shady friends are allowed to hangout after closing, and they have free rein of the place.

Yelp
Usually cannot go wrong with hopdoddys. Their green queso fries are good. I got their burger and the bun was so soggy it was hard to eat
google avatar

Greg L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Known for great burgers but they do have other great sandwiches and sides. The hand cut fries and choices of toppings are very good. Great cocktails as well but typically get a draft local beer.

Yelp
We visited the McKinney street location on Friday and had a great experience! The service was fast and the food was great! We will definitely be visiting this location again soon. Shemeka and the General Manager were great and kept coming to check on us. If anyone is looking on to have a good night out and some good burgers I recommend Hopdoddy-Mckinney location.

Yelp
After reading the positive reviews, we decided to check this place out. When you walk in your kind of confused as to what to do and then finally, someone came over. We were given three menus for our large party . The older gentleman waiter was nice, but the food was just OK even the Parmesan truffle fries just OK.
google avatar

Jen-Jen C.

Yelp
Great burgers!!! I had the Double Bacon Jam burger and shared the green queso fries. Yummy. This place might be a chain but the food is better than chain restaurant food.

Yelp
Although I am from Dallas originally, I haven't lived here in over 20 years. I used Yelp to find a place that had a great burger as I am in town for an Air Force conference. I came across this gem located in the vibrant and modern area in uptown. Upon entering, my guy and I were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. The restaurant itself was trendy and clean. The menu had a dozen or so choices of burgers as well as non burger options. I ordered the Llano Poblano Burger and he the goodnight/good cause burger. We were immediately given a "first timer" discount on top of military discount (my bf was in uniform). After ordering, we sat ourselves and the wait staff brought our order to our table. It was excellent- the perfectly toasted buns and the fresh ingredients! I love how the fries were served in a huge bowl- enough for us to share between us. I believe the owner or manager came and greeted us while we ate and asked how we enjoyed the food. Overall, this restaurant was one of my favorite experiences
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Our experience was great; the place was fairly clean with lots of space, and the hostesses were attentive, patient, and helpful to us. Parking wasn't too much of an issue either (street parking). Prices were fair for the selections. We ordered the Parmesan truffle fries, the Nashville chicken burger, and the llamo poblano burger. The truffle fries were fine; couldn't really taste the truffle and the fries themselves were so-so, but the white sauce really made the dish pop. The Nashville burger was my favorite. Perfectly toasted bun, the chicken was spicy and crispy, with a tangy sauce. It tasted almost like a high-end Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich (which is actually a compliment). The llamo poblano was peppery. Not much to say about it, other than that it was very filling despite its size. Overall, I'd definitely go again!

Yelp
Double Bacon Jam was Delicious and came as advertised. The Parmesan fries were just as good!!

Yelp
Ordered the PRIMETIME burger: wow! The juiciest tastiest 1000cal burger I have ever had. I did not want to stop eating it. The house fries: bland. Flavored dips could not save these. Oh well.
google avatar

Louis L.

Yelp
Food is good, the atmosphere is nice, staff is friendly. I'll be honest, I was a bit confused when I walked in (first time) since I didn't know what to do, do I just sit at a random table or smth, so I had to ask the staff. After ordering and my burger arrived, I was confused because it didn't come with fries, so the staff clarified that the fries are to be ordered separately. Umm... oops. As for the burger (can't remember its name, I just remember that it has arugula), it was flavorful, no doubt about it. This is also a great place for when one wants a drink, as they have a bar area as well. Oh, and their Wi-Fi password didn't work for some reason. I asked the staff about it and she provided me with the password but despite my attempts, it didn't work, so who knows what that was about.

Yelp
Joke. Ordered via Uber eats. Brussels are wimpy and shavings only. Good flavor but horrible value. It was maybe 1 Oz of food, really. Burger ordered no bun, pink in color and paid premium for 1/2 lb - it was well done and just a perfect wimpy companion to the brussel shavings. I thought everything was bigger in Texas. This meal was skimpy and exorbitantly priced. PASS!!

Brock B.

Yelp
The food was exquisite, when we walked in the manager, offered us two free fries, and they were amazing. Service was quick and very helpful, everything was clean but the floors were kinda sticky, nothing to bad but only flaw.
google avatar

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Not pleased with my experience today. I ordered the melt and asked for the impossible patty. I paid and my son and I sat down and wait for our food. After our food is dropped off, a second person came to tell me that they didn't charge me for the impossible patties. If I had know when I was ordering that I was going to be eating a $20 burger, I absolutely would have gotten something else because. On top of it all, the bread that was used was one of the end pieces and it was so slippery the meat wouldn't even stay in the sandwich. It just really sucked and wasn't worth the drive from Midlothian and wasn't worth the money either

Joseph R.

Yelp
Service, food and decor is just OK. Went to another location in Austin which was actually worse. On this particular day it was difficult to reach, as there was some event going on in the area and police were diverting traffic. More than likely will not be back. Staff was nice, just not very good. Wish it was better, as I'm a burger and beer guy and wanted another go to place. Sorry this isn't it.
google avatar

Rick V.

Yelp
It was 10:55 and they refuse to serve me because the kitchen was already clean. It says it closes at 11. Wow!! I have since spoken with the GM and has invited me back to experience it on my next visit to Dallas. Looking forward to it .
google avatar

Ilena J.

Yelp
Burnt Happy Hour Sliders. The burgers were burnt to a crisp and it's by far the worse I've had. Also the cook did not have on any gloves. Absolutely disappointed. The shake tasted like paste. Go to the one in Addison or Preston.
google avatar

Keilon L.

Yelp
Even if this place wasn't absurdly convenient for me to visit multiple times per week, I'd probably still visit frequently. Who doesn't love washing down an ice cold beer in a glass goblet fit for a Viking after savory bites into a delicious burger in a number variations and patty styles made available to you? You can't really come here and not find an item on the menu unless you just don't like quintessential American food with a little bit flair...looking at you truffle fries or hot honey & sage sweet potato fries in large shareable sizes. You can easily look at the menu and see that the fun doesn't stop with the side items. There's also a pretty complete and well-stocked bar here to gather around on cold nights. The wraparound outside patio calm spring or summer nights is my preference. Service here is great and it's also quick and easy. There's really nothing to complain about.
google avatar

Kari M.

Yelp
It has been a while since we've been to Hop Daddy but decided to go because they have a good deal of vegan & regular options. The burgers are a good size--not huge, not kid size. Lots of burger/topping options as well as great , unique fries (highly recommend the hot honey sage). They serve alcoholic beverages that are priced like any other (most $9/cocktail, beers on tap $4.5 etc). I always pay attention to the noise level, they had just low to moderate noise level. The music isn't blaring but they also were not full. Seating is comfy at a booth, table or bar as well as some outdoor seating. My only "beef" (haha) is they only offer happy hour Sunday-Thursday. I'd love to see more places open up happy hours to daily, but honestly, no biggie, just "a thing" with me. As a reference, my husband and I each had a burger, shared fries and each had a cocktail and our total was $55. It is a walk up, order type service then food and drinks are brought you. We would recommend Hop Daddy and would not hesitate to return.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Price is ridiculous for the food you receive. 1 hamburger looked like a White Castle it was so small Service was slow - waited 30 minutes to get the order. And - of course - it was wrong - forgot the bacon which was an extra charge to begin with.
google avatar

Christine J.

Yelp
so good!! skip the breadwinners line next door and get a burger and a good time. I got the nashville chicken sandwich which was incredible. We had one of the workers choose a milkshake and it was delish

Anthony G.

Yelp
Best burgers I have ever had!!!! One of the workers was amazing. Because it was our first time he bought us a batch of fries. Great service and great food.

Jack W.

Yelp
I enjoy that place and they have really good burgers but it is a bit pricey for just a burger. I don't think the burgers come with fries either so you have to pay extra for that as well.

Conor F.

Yelp
Great service, respectful and always makes things right. Wonderful bartenders, good food.
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
The only parking is an adjacent paid parking garage. There are signs everywhere claiming they validate parking up to two hours, but the staff doesn't know how to do it. Only menus were drink menus and none posted that you can see from the line, so had to use our phones to look up the menu so we could place our order. Drink machine overflowing, but none of the employees are doing anything about it. Just letting a lake form on the floor in the middle of the restaurant. Food took over 45 minutes, though they did try to deliver other people's food to us at least three separate times. Had to pay for more parking. Only star is because they gave me a voucher for a free thing of fries next time we come (if we ever do).

Percy C.

Yelp
There quality is no longer as good as beginnings, not sure what happen to them, I ordered large to go orders twice lately. The burger meat was too raw the first time, I tried to order well down and got them all overcooked of my 10 burgers on my second time order. I was very disappointed.
google avatar

Kristina C.

Yelp
That's it !! It's best burger place in Dallas , Mother Nature burger and Diablo jezzzz . Well I'm typing review right now in this place , don't even look other place you have to eat burger here ! And drinks palamo it's huuuugee . And tasty . Well I have to make pic before but it's was too tasty .

Lori K.

Yelp
I would give 0 stars but that is not an option. We had an awful experience. It started out okay with a great bartender taking our order even though we wanted to sit at a table. After a 20 minute wait, the food came out wrong. We were told they would be just a few minutes, Fast forward 30 minutes....food comes out WRONG again. A female manager comes over and questions our concerns. After she realized it was wrong again, she said she would personally cook it. Fast forward another 20-30 minutes. Food arrives again but still wrong. No one came one to check on us or see if they were finally able to get it right, I stopped the expo to express my frustration. She looked at me and then walked away. Still no follow- up. This was a customer service fail and we cannot advise anyone to eat here unless you have low expectations. This is basically an expensive McDonald's.
google avatar

Phillip E S.

Yelp
This was my first time ever eating at a Hopdoddy Burger Bar. The overall experience was good. My brother and I ordered burgers and split a huge order of parmsean fries. Yes, the serving of fries is that big. Both the service and quality of food were great. I'll definitely come back here again.
google avatar

Cam A.

Yelp
The best vegan burger i've had hands down. The vegan cheese is so creamy, I almost forgot it was vegan. It goes great with a frozen Strawberry margarita! Awesome staff, super friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
Went for lunch to Hopdoddy. I had remember going to the Austin location in college. The burger itself was tasty and decently sized despite the look. The atmosphere for Sunday lunch wasn't too packed. Parking is always a little tough.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Pretty standard faire (everything was just ok) but way overpriced for what it is. Bacon cheeseurger, Brussels sprouts and a beer will run you almost $34. Friendly and attentive staff. Lots of TVs to watch whatever sport you're interested in.

Cathy M.

Yelp
1st and last experience Order was delivered through their delivery partner. It was cold and incomplete. Tried calling the restaurant multiple times with no answer, just a recording. I called their delivery partner which also tried unsuccessfully to make contact. There was no resolution at the time of this post
google avatar

Fredrick K.

Yelp
The best burgers in Dallas hands down. I always get the magic shroom burger which is the best in my opinion. If you have the time or just wondering what to eat stop here.
google avatar

Lizzie G.

Yelp
Love this place, can't believe I haven't reviewed it before. A little pricy and now the parking is really complicated. I guess handicap spots within the garage don't have a number and that was what confused me. The restaurant validates parking.
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
If I can give this place zero stars I would. I ordered three classic burgers and what I got instead were undercooked patties. When I reported this the whole staff, including the manager, were all nonchalant about putting me and my family's health at risk. The mexican girl who took my order even had the nerve to laugh at my ordeal. The manager also had the nerve to say that "we never make raw burgers" and made it clear he tolerates his workers giving customers raw burgers and attitude, but not customers getting upset as a result. There's better burger places with superior service and prices. Brickhouse Burgers in north Dallas for example.
google avatar

Marina B.

Yelp
Love Hopdoddy, but not this location. My take out was sitting on the counter for sometime (I specified the time I would pick up and asked for fresh food), so I had to wait for a new order of fries. Vegetables were not fresh either...
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
The place wasn't clean, the food was adequate, but overpriced for what you get. I tried the Diablo burger because I like spicey foods, but this was super-hot. They asked how i wanted my burger cooked, and ignored my request for a medium burger, instead giving it to me well-done. My wife had chicken strips, which were good. Basically, very average quality, somewhat overpriced fast-food. And when you order at the counter, of course, their credit card system automatically asks for tips, when there is essentially no "service". There are a lot of burger places in Plano, Texas, and the surrounding area, most of which are a lot better quality and better value than this one. I'm very disappointed.
