Hope St Radio - Review - Collingwood - Melbourne - The Infatuation

"The first thing you’ll clock at Hope St is the crowd. When late afternoon rolls around, the former college building is all but obscured by the natural-wine-swishing set that fills its sprawling quadrangle. There’s definitely a restaurant here though, and a good one at that. Intersperse skin-contact sips with springy focaccia doused in olive oil, radishes swiped through creamy ricotta, and rotating house pastas. On Sundays, there’s adults-only afternoon tea (banana splits, filter coffee, and Champagne) with big day party energy, but the music programming is a cut above any day of the week. If live DJs are making it hard to hear your mates indoors, the solution is clear: grab a bottle, head outside, and join the thrum." - Ellen Fraser

The 38 Essential Melbourne Restaurants

"When community-run Hope St Radio moved to the Collingwood Yards art precinct in 2021, it also opened a wine bar with colorful hand-painted murals and DJs playing through the evening. Chef Ellie Bouhadana keeps things simple and delicious with handmade pasta, seasonal produce, and fluffy focaccia. Natural wines are king, and best sipped in the leafy courtyard." - Audrey Bourget, Sharlee Gibb

Four of us came to Hope St Radio located in the Collingwood's arts hub. The food was absolutely delicious (the prices are quite dear). The sticky date pudding just melted in my mouth. Thank you for the excellent service.

Cute wine bar with decent bottle prices. Very cool vibe but slow service at the start. Focaccia was great!

I would recommend Hope Street radio, purely as a drinking spot, a hangout spot or even just an after work drinks spot When we got the food here it was severely underwhelming and quite unpleasant we got the smoked eggplant and that was definitely an unpleasant dish to have. We didn’t finish it. It was difficult to eat with the flavors. Just didn’t sit well with us. We got some bread which was cold. The butter didn’t do it for us. We got some oysters, which were really really fishy. You could tell that they were not fresh. We also waited forever for the pasta dish and I love pasta cooked al dente, but this pasta was just undercooked. It wasn’t even a bite to the pasta. You literally could not bite pasta the pasta without gritting your teeth. A decent place for drinks and a relaxing atmosphere. The vibes were immaculate. The food just doesn’t make the benchmark.

Had the best experience at hope street, Bella went above and beyond and was absolutely fantastic during such a busy period. They managed the crowd well, were attentive, had incredible recommendations, were awesome for a chat and so charismatic!! Seriously one of the best customer service experiences my partner and I have had, made us feel so welcome and looked after! It’s such a privilege to have such an amazing staff member in your team!!! SHOUTOUT BELLA!!!

I had a much-needed girls' night at Hope St Radio, an energetic and casual wine bar that hits all the right notes. The place is buzzing with good food, great wine, and a laid-back, artsy vibe. I loved the chill music and the scribbles on the walls that added to the relaxed atmosphere. We tried the- ▪️raw snapper, dill, shallots, creme fraiche, pickle, croute - $18 ▪️ellie’s focaccia, whipped butter - $9 ▪️smoked eggplant, tahini, zhoug, shallots - $21 ▪️tagliatelle, mushrooms, parsley, lemon, parmesan - $29 The focaccia was amazing—so airy and soft. Appreciate the portion size- was so tasty and filling. It did have a generous amount of olive oil, making it a bit messy to eat, but when paired with the whipped butter, it was incredible. The smoky eggplant was a standout, with a perfectly soft texture that melted in your mouth. The tahini mixture was spot on, making it delicious whether on its own or paired with the focaccia. The raw snapper was delicious, and the tagliatelle pasta was also good, but the standout dishes for me were definitely the focaccia and eggplant. The wine selection was excellent, and the service was on point. Overall, Hope St Radio has great vibes with both outdoor and indoor areas, plenty of space, and a bustling, energetic atmosphere. I had a fantastic night here and would definitely recommend it for your next fun and relaxed night out!

I’m not a wine lover but still impressed by the interesting wine I had here. Food were cute: simple but decent Honestly I’m a authentic foodie, so the food could not surprise me too much. I literally nearly ordered the whole menu, bc not too much choice. It’s a place deserve to come at least one time~ What’s more, I enjoyed with observing the people dinning here, quite fun~

Outstanding food and atmosphere (we shared most of the dishes on menu). DJ was exceptional with excellent music section adding to the energy of the space, however the volume was ridiculously loud. It made conversation absolutely impossible and took away from an otherwise fabulous experience. We had one amazingly gorgeous waiter with a shaved head and moustache who was super sweet, accommodating, and genuinely kind. On the other hand, our other main waiter was quite obnoxious, but we had a laugh about it. The chefs wearing sunglasses inside at 10pm were an absolute vibe! 🫶 Would eat here again though only in a party of two, not five, as we literally could not have a conversation. (The larger table behind us were also having yelling conversations due to the extraordinarily loud music :(

Such a great place! Amazing food, amazing wine list and music! Love the concept with live radio dj sets. The food was great, especially that chunky focaccia bread and seafood. Everything is designed for grazing and then a few pastas. Would come back for the oysters and that bread. Had an orange wine, which was divine. The atmosphere was also amazing and the service was attentive without being too much. Just right!
