"This contemporary eatery stands out amongst the myriad choices on vibrant Október Street, both for its smooth service and its modern, well-presented cooking – and it's certainly a popular spot. Large blackboards announce the daily specials, which see traditional Hungarian recipes brought up-to-date, and the excellent value lunch menu is always a hit. Local beers and wines complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

MICHELIN Guide Budapest : from breakfast to dinner, the perfect gourmet day

"Bright and airy, with sober wooden tables and a mezzanine for small groups, this relaxed, unfussy bistro showcases Hungarian staples through a young chef’s lens: expect a refined yet generous modern chicken paprikash, a dome of foie gras mousse, and the ubiquitous túrógombóc. Chef Márton Irtó, 28, preserves tradition while enhancing it with modern techniques and thoughtful plating—think goose liver with sour plum sauce and millet shaped like a Chinese roll—and he’s baked more than a thousand versions of túrógombóc in pursuit of perfection. It’s reasonably priced, pours local wines from small wineries and craft beers, and insists on top ingredients, including Hortobágy beef raised exclusively for the restaurant near Budapest. “Hoppá” means “oops” or “wow,” a fitting exclamation after a great meal here." - Le Guide MICHELIN

We had another great meal at Hoppa. The service we received from Balasz was excellent. The service was attentive without being overbearing and the staff are well versed with the menu and drinks recommendations. The food is outstanding. Beautifully presented and full of flavour. A favourite in Budapest and worth a visit.

Exceptional food, warm service, and real focus on flavour After eating at “the best steak restaurant in Budapest” (which, honestly, was pretty disappointing), we decided to go all in on what really matters to us as proper foodies: the food. That’s how we ended up here — and we’re very glad we did. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. No unnecessary fuss, just genuine hospitality and a clear sense that all the effort goes into the food and service. We started with four starters, including an onion soup and a beef consommé-style soup. Both were absolutely delicious and, with the snow falling outside, incredibly comforting and warming — exactly what was needed. Next, we each had a steak tartare, beautifully presented and full of flavour. I asked for Tabasco and was told they don’t use it — however, our waiter Sasa went above and beyond and brought me freshly smashed chillies instead. They were mind-blowingly hot, incredibly flavoursome, and allowed me to enjoy my tartare exactly how I love it: extremely spicy. Outstanding service and creativity from Sasa 👏 We don’t drink alcohol, so we tried a few of the house lemonades, which were very nicely made and refreshing. One small suggestion: the same attention given to the impressive wine and spirits list could be extended to non-alcoholic cocktails and crafted drinks. Trust me — there are thousands of us who want the full cocktail experience, just without the alcohol. For mains, we had the belly pork, which was simply delicious, and a ribeye steak, ordered medium rare. It came out closer to rare, but the flavour was excellent. My only real criticism would be the fat — cooking or rendering it a little more would improve the experience, as a lump of raw fat isn’t very pleasant. Desserts were generous — we tried three: Crème brûlée: the texture was closer to panna cotta, but still very tasty Sticky toffee pudding: beautifully presented, but not really a sticky toffee pudding. With British guests in the dining room and this being one of the UK’s most loved desserts, the recipe could definitely be improved — it’s quite far from the original Chocolate, redcurrant & beetroot dessert: enjoyable and well balanced Overall, fantastic flavours, thoughtful service, and a clear passion for food. Despite a few small critiques, this is a place we’ll definitely return to — and we’ll be asking for Sasa again. Highly recommended, and see you again soon!

We had an unforgettable dinner at Hoppá Bistro in Budapest. The food was modern and inventive, composed of many different elements, yet never overdone. Somehow, every component came together beautifully, creating dishes that were both balanced and exciting. The staff provided outstanding, highly professional service. It was clear that they knew the menu inside out, and their wine-pairing recommendations were spot-on, elevating the entire experience. Overall, it was a delightful and delicious evening. Highly recommended.

Loved this place so much we went back for a second meal! Sasa and Tommy were both phenomenal waiters with so much charisma. The chicken paprikash is a must. Between both our meals, we tried all the desserts that were offered. You can’t go wrong with any of them. This place is a mystery if you’re in the area. Fantastic good without being pretentious. Truly a gem.

We had a fantastic meal/ evening at Hoppá bistro with my wife and 2 boys. Our server Sasa was very helpful with the boys. I had a hard twine deciding what to get as I wanted at last 5 of the dishes. I went with the veal and I certainly was happy with my final choice. The kids menu of chicken nuggets was top notch and could tell fresh and not factory. We tried 2 different deserts and was so happy with them. Had a nice glass or 2 of Hungarian Pinot nor not to mention a live IPA beer to start. Overall I would highly recommend a visit.

I eat out a lot and Hoppá genuinely impressed me. The flavors are layered and confident, the plates are creative without being pretentious, and you can tell there’s real thought behind every combination. It’s that rare place where you catch yourself slowing down just to taste every element on the plate. If you’re serious about food, Hoppá isn’t just “nice to try” in Budapest – it’s a must.

A True Hidden Gem! Hoppá Bistro is one of those places you walk into and instantly feel at home. The atmosphere is cozy yet stylish, with just the right mix of charm and comfort. The staff are genuinely friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and you can tell they truly care about their guests’ experience. The food is absolutely delightful — fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavors, and beautiful presentation. Every dish feels like it was made with passion. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual lunch or a special dinner, the menu offers a great variety that caters to all tastes, and the wine selection pairs wonderfully. It’s the kind of place you want to return to again and again, not just for the food, but for the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal in a relaxed setting.

This spot came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful. Service was very very good from Gyula. All the food was excellent except for the duck dish. Potato starting and veal were superb. Overall it was very sweet and the barley risotto wasn’t to my liking. Great experience though. I would highly recommend the place.
