"The family moved to Tokyo from Kagoshima Prefecture to spread the word about the rich, deep flavour of Berkshire pork. Making the rounds of producers in Kagoshima, the couple select their pork with a laser focus on quality. Love of hometown suffuses every item: pickles are marinated in black vinegar from the couple’s native Kirishima, the chef’s mother hand-makes the miso, used in the tonjiru (pork soup), and the sauce captures the flavour of the chef’s parents’ diner back home." - Michelin Inspector

OCT 2024 Made a reservation for lunch and paid in advance for the pork loin and tenderloin katsu set meal which included rice, tonjiru (pork and vegetable miso soup), shredded cabbage and a small side of pickled vegetables. Arrived for the 11:10am session and they still have some seating for 14:10am but highly recommend booking in advance. The tonkatsu was prepared pretty fast; it was served within ten minutes after being seated. Both cuts of pork were tender and the panko was perfectly coated and flaky. The pork loin was on the leaner side with a bit of fat cap on the end pieces. They have two tonkatsu sauce, one with less sweetness. Tonjiru soup was hearty and goes well with the tonkatsu. Overall a tasty and satisfying meal, service was good.

It was the best shrimp katsu I’ve ever had. The taste was incredible, with the shrimp’s size and texture being just perfect. Both the pork loin and tenderloin katsu were delicious, and the rice was great too, thanks to its quality. But the shrimp was truly outstanding and unforgettable.

Advance reservation is highly recommended as this is Michelin restaurant and there are only 12 seats in the store. There are 6 lunch sets available and I chose the kurobuta loin and 1 pc of fillet set. The set comes with tonkatsu, rice, pickles, cabbage, and soup (rice and cabbage can be refilled once). It is recommended having with either sauce or salt. The interesting thing is that there are 3 kinds of sauce on the counter which are miso sauce, sweet sauce, and less sweet sauce while other store normally serves salty-based sauce. After trying all, I prefer the less sweet one the most as I still find it sweet but not too much. The tonkatsu is well fried and rice is delicious. I personally prefer fillet as loin is a bit too oily for me. What impress me the most is soup and pickle! Pickle is sour yet sweet which goes well with fat part of tonkatsu. Soup itself is sweet and refreshing which I have never experienced in Japan before. This is totally different from other tonkatsu store in Tokyo! This restaurant is operated by a man and a lady and they are very nice and polite. Even the store is located at the basement floor, it is still easy to find.

It looks like an ordinary Tokatsu, but it is not. The taste of exquisitely fried, high-quality pork is amazing. Moreover, the friendly customer service makes the store even better. It is very difficult to receive a Michelin Bib Gourmand in Japan, the country of tonkatsu, and the quality is worth it. I want to visit again.

As a professional chef, I strive for perfection and this Michelin bib gourmand establishment has set the bar extremely high for what a pork tonkotsu meal should look and taste like. For ¥1900, I got their special kurobuta black pork cutlet which came with a beautiful bowl of rice, miso soup made from his mother's miso, a fabulous small plate of housemade pickles made with black vinegar to counter the fattiness from the twice cooked pork cutlet. Extremely impressed. Wonderful flavor and definitely a small family-owned restaurant field seating. Only 12 people at one time. Strongly recommend reservations unless you can score a walk-in reservation.

I recently dined at this quaint Tonkatsu restaurant, known for its authentic Japanese cuisine. While the space is a bit snug, lending a cozy and intimate atmosphere, the experience was nothing short of delightful. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Black Abel pig tonkatsu. The pork was extraordinarily succulent, indicating high-quality meat and a masterful cooking technique. The crisp, golden breading complemented the tender, flavorful pork beautifully, creating a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. Despite the limited space, the staff showcased exceptional hospitality. An extra friend joined our party unexpectedly, and the restaurant staff accommodated us without hesitation. This flexibility and eagerness to serve added a layer of comfort and ease to our dining experience. In essence, this Tonkatsu restaurant offers a delightful culinary journey. The space may be a bit cramped, but it's more than compensated for by the quality of the food and the warmth of the service. The Black Abel pig tonkatsu is a must-try for anyone seeking a genuine and delicious taste of Japanese cuisine.

It is a hidden gem as the restaurant is in B1 and you won’t notice it at all. The Tonkatsu here is very good and highly recommend to have their today special tonkatsu. The one we had is from Abel, the meat is so tender and juicy. The set comes with pickle, soup and rice. The miso soup is also tasty as they put a lot of radish, carrot and meat. Better to book the table in advance.

The katsu itself: 3/5, everything else: 5/5. I ordered a set meal of ¥1900 that contained both the pork fillet and the loin, which is not a bad price at all considering the Michelin star. What blew me away about this meal was the miso siru. The broth had a delicate sweetness that only comes from tenderly braised vegetable stock; when complemented with the delicious richness of the pork within the soup, it was simply delicious! I could have finished an entire bowl of rice with just the siru. The variety of sauces provided was also a nice touch. The katsu itself was a little too fatty for my taste. It was only bearable after applying a hefty amount of mustard, and I still felt slightly uncomfortable after my meal due to all the grease. If you have a low tolerance for greasy food, try going for the low-fat option. I visited the store at around 2:10, and perhaps I dropped by at an advantageous time, but the atmosphere of the store was quiet, collected, and welcoming (unlike some other tonkatsu places in tokyo where everything is bustling and crazy due to the crowd and the open bar). The server was so lovely as well! I’d pay another visit just to try their shrimp katsu meal. ご馳走様🙏🏼
