"Many traditional wirtshäuser (inns/pubs) in Vorarlberg can feel a little dated, but at Wirtshaus Hörnlingen, young chef Dominic Mayer is putting his spin on the genre. Housing a bar, wine cellar, tapas bar, and gourmet restaurant, Hörnlingen foregos a regular menu for daily offerings based on whatever ingredients Mayer can get his hands on. Sourcing his own meat, working with farmers in the region, and making his own bread and pasta, the chef certainly has his hands full. The dinner tasting menu starts at 60 euros ($66) for grilled lake fish, barbecued venison, and a respectable wine list. The Hörnlingen is a good night out. The food is superb and served with flair. There are no theatrics or particularly bold flavors, but it is nevertheless a great showcase of what's possible with regional ingredients. The front-of-house team was personable, efficient and attentive. They went to great lengths to accommodate a vegetarian and a lactose-intolerance without compromising the experience. There's a generosity to their approach here and you can be sure that nice surprises will be scattered throughout the experience. One huge downside is how loud it gets. The combo of high-density seating and hard surfaces means that conversations have to be shouted. A few acoustic panels would go a long way.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food was delicious and every course was a little work of art. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and looks elegant but comfy. I can't wait to come back some day!

By far the best "fine dining" location in Rankweil. You can choose how many stages the menu should have (2, 3 or 4 stages) but the dishes itselve are a suprise and not declarated in advance. Vegy was also possible. Huge selection of wines. Excellent service and superior dishes.

It is worth traveling to Vorarlberg and eating there, I think it represents the philosophy of life and traditions of the region very well, a beauty.
